I had a dental cleaning scheduled. They called and reminded me. I didn't forget. However, my business opened that week, and on the day of the cleaning we had a problem with credit card processing. That's the core of my business! I am the tech person and the only one who can figure out and resolve the issue. I could not go to the dental cleaning and leave my business stranded. We argued on the phone when i tried to explain. She paid for her tech for cleaning, it was about her loss. Didn't empathize with my loss or situation. Reason for my low rating is Wife observed the dentist reprimand her hygienist in front of her a different hygienist not the one I had. My wife found it awkward and uncomfortable. So...let's just say that my previous dental experiences in town have been less than pleasant. Not that they hurt. Getting 4 straight hours of tattoos in the inside of your arm, or passing a kidney stone hurts. Some gum scraping is just uncomfortable and easily managed through some local anesthetic. It's the people that make the difference. I stopped in for my inaugural appointment at Dr. Hom's practice and was quickly greeted by my first name! Nope...never been before. Maybe I look like a Christopher. Was still a nice start. Then, whilst completing the small library of information packets that's typically required by any establishment bound by HIPAA, I was surprised to be quickly interrupted by the Hygienist who told me to go ahead and bring my paperwork back while she got things ready. "What? I don't have to sit here and fill everything out while you try to rush another patient through?" Unheard of! The DH was awesome. Very attentive to any discomfort, chatted with me during the process, to which I most replied either "Uhahhuahahaa", or "Gggaklkkllkkkk". She always let me vacuum out the pool usually on the latter reply. We finished up with some gentle chastising on my inability to practice good flossing habits at my age, and then I awaited the visit from the doc. Dr. Hom came bay and we chatted about technology for a good 10 minutes, then about college and career choices. "What? You want to know about 'me'? More so than whether or not I have insurance?" Unheard of! She covered some basics with me, again, only a slight slap on the knuckles about my dental behaviors, then sent me on my way with a couple referrals to local orthodontic offices so I can make some price comparisons on nurturing my vanity. Great experience! I even booked my next two follow-up appointments before leaving, as opposed to my standard practice of pretending I had to check my calendar and get back to them, thereby procrastinating for 6-9 months before scheduling a follow up. Our family went here for years and about 2014, she recommended I have 2 root canals done and she had a specialist who could do it there. Her office is not equipped to do that kind of work and the "specialist " winged it. I paid $2700 for this. I complained of pain after that and she said it wasnt possible since there is no bloodflow to the 2 teeth. I went to a real endodontist and they said it was the worst work ever. Canals were not deep enough and only 3 canals drilled, not 4. The new dentist I went to saw the Xray and agreed. I am now taking the Xrays to the Nevada state board to at least get my money back. In addition to this, she is rude to her staff, the staff is always changing, and should be avoided at all costs! read more

Karen Hom is by far the rudest unprofessional person I have ever dealt with in my life. She has on several occasions during my appointments talked about other patients, often violating Hippa privacy laws. She decided to go off on me in her waiting room over a appointment my wife had canceled that I didn't know about . I asked her if she could bill me for the charge . She denied my service for that day and called me a freeloader saying "you can't load up your grocery cart and say bill me" . She is money hungry and does not care about her patience or their privacy . This whole ordeal happened in her waiting room while she screamed and carried on yelling my personal information . My opinion would be to stay far away !!!!!!!!! read more

I've been a patient at this office for at least 10 years. Always had a good experience. Very pleased to find out they are following all the CDC guidelines set forth by the state. Had to have a temperature check before entering the office. Once inside found out I was the only patient in the entire office. Masks are being worn and office is sanitized. Let me start by saying I hadnt been to the dentist in several years before going to see Dr. Hom. I couldn't have made it more clear that I have a phobia of dentists. To start their child size bite wing was broken so they couldn't get x-rays as the adult size was too big for my mouth. After getting a quick cleaning by the not so friendly hygienists. Dr. Hom came into the exam room and told me I was acting worse than a 3 year old and it probably was partly because of the way I was raised. She looked in my mouth and announced numbers out loud on about every tooth. I asked what that meant and she really didn't give me an explaination. Then she said all the brown streeks in my back teeth are cavities....15 to be exact .. went to another dentist 3 days later for 2nd opinion and turns out I have no cavities! I would seriously think twice if you are considering going here. Seems like if I hadn't gotten a second opinion a lot of unnecessary drilling, filling and $$$$ would have been spent! read more

I had a good visit and positive experience with this dental office, which was also clean and comfortable. Dr. Hom was frank and honest with me about my dental care, which I appreciated. Her educational background (from a top-rated dental school) actually matches her professionalism and knowledge, as she was very cordial and treated me with respect as a patient. She has a great personality and she listened carefully to what my concerns were. She only suggested dental work that was necessary. When I had additional follow-up questions that I didn't think of while in the office, I was able to call her and she responded very quickly. I am glad to finally find a board-certified dentist in Las Vegas that is trustworthy and compassionate, and a place where I can be sure to receive top-notch care. read more

Dr. Hom explains whatever procedure I need to have done and has recommended procedures that would help me. There is no other dentist I would want to go to. Dr. Hom may have been in a bad mood today, but she was very rude. The whole visit, she was rude. I will not be going back there. She did fillings (more than one) and I called when the numbing was wearing off because it hurts really bad and they say they can't even give me anything for the pain, not even ibuprofen??? Recent dental work completed with Dr. Hom and her staff. Her staff always explains the costs of a procedure very well up front. My appointments with her office are always punctual and normally find myself barely seated before a member of her office is taking me back to the examining room. Dr. Hom is very thorough on the exams and explaining your options going forward including the pro/cons to you as the patient. Dr Hom is unprofessional, rude and does not care about the betterment of her patients. I had been a loyal patient of her office for several years. Everything was fine as I was just getting simple cleanings. Last year Dr hom put me on a watch list for my cavity, I assumed she knew what she was doing and forgot about it. A year and half goes by, I go in for my cleaning and she tells me "wow, I need to take you off the watch list, the cavity is now infecting 2 teeth". So now instead of have to take care of and pay for 1 cavity, due to her negligence I have 2. The filling of the cavities was the worst experience, she was rude to her undertrained staff and scolded them in front of me, which did not instill a vote of confidence. After the nightmare fillings which took longer because she repeatedly stuck my gums with a needle after I said i could still feel the drilling. Her attendant could nor get the spreader in between my teeth and forced it in after several attempts. After the fillings, i woke up and realized something was horribly wrong.. my gums were swollen and white pus had formed. I received an infection!! Dr Hom prescribes me penicillin after scolded me for calling the emergency line too early in the morning, stating there is no emergency big enough to excuse calling at 6 am.. wow.. unbelievable. I will never ever be going back and think the she should be stripped of her license. ****patients beware do not go here unless you want to over pay and get scolded and infections****** you have been warned. The only damn reason I am giving her a star at all is because you can't give any one a negative five stars. I went in to have dental work in the beginning of August. I paid cash for my copayment. After they filed the wrong insurance and billed me incorrectly I notified them. My son went in and was billed to be correct insurance but was charged for something that was covered 100% and they were well aware that it was wrong. I have been hounding this rental office that I would like my money refunded to me promptly hit to no avail I am still trying to get over $600 for the over payments we were billed. No one has called me back. No one ever knows when or if I will even get my money returned. I'm am beyond pissed and the poor girl at the office can't even help me so I have to blame Dr Hom herself. Very unprofessional and down right shady. I won't go here again. My son paid for two fillings almost $300 when they were covered %100 and they knew it. I even double checked they had the right ins on hand. They over billed my ins and I paid almost %50 of what they received from my insurance when I should have only paid %25. Very positive first experience with Dr. Hom and the rest of her staff. If there is a more bubbly receptionist in town, I haven't met her. It took about 2 weeks to get in for a first (routine) appointment. I was directed to the forms online, so I downloaded and completed sign-up papers before I arrived. That was helpful since I was able to research all the details at home rather than scrambling for them on the day of my first visit. Usually, the later in the day an appointment, the farther behind things have become, but I went in about 15 minutes after my scheduled time, which I felt was pretty good for a mid-day appointment. I didn't even have time to play on the Wii setup in the waiting room. X-rays and cleaning were both handled quickly while I listened to the Discovery channel, which was playing on the TV at the end of my exam chair. The hygienist was wonderful. She has mastered the art of 1-way communication, so I wasn't expected to explain anything with a mouthful of instruments and fingers. After all the photos were taken and my teeth were polished, Dr. Hom came in for a look around. After declaring me cavity-fre, she took time to talk to me about my teeth. She is very personable and not rushed at all. Based on my experience, I highly recommend this team. read more
