love this place with a passion. vibes are amazing, the people you meet will become your friends instantly , and all around great time.

This place is just beyond belief. First they have to pat you down before you can enter (good sign right? Must be quality clients...) You coudn't sneak a stick of gum in there if you tried. Then I was told that nobody was in VIP seating and I could sit there until it was busy,...by a bartender mind you. (it's literally some couches tacked in there with little folded "Reserved" signs in no particular order. Were the signs placed? Were they not? What makes this area so special?... Is it special?) Later their "security guy" said I had to move, which was super f***** awkard because it was just me chilling there with a beer and there were like... 5 people in the in the entire bulding AND it was already 10:50. Never seen such an uptight excuse for a high end club. Guys...I appreciate the work you put into the dance floor and the renovations...but this isn't New York! It's Oakland Ave in Milwaukee next to a Gyro resturant and a Goodwill. Just beyond weird and awkward experience. I'm not gonna be back ever again. read more

Now that Deadman's Carnival won't be performing here regularly, I doubt I'll find reason to come back. Since the fire and the "upgrades" the Miramar has instituted a bunch of seemingly random rules that appear only to serve as a deterrent from people actually having fun and/or enjoying themselves. When the front bar is full and people have nowhere to go--why not open the second bar? Even if you don't want a server in there, at least give people a place to go. At the box office, they seem to enjoy having large queued lines and agonizingly slow service which makes the bar situation even more irritating. $5 for coat check? Ouch. And if you're going to have a VIP tier, at least make it a VIP experience and more than just a bottle of water or a seat on a platform. Lastly, have a drink price list. A vodk and redbull shouldn't be $16 which is what we were charged. 2 PBR's at $4.50 plus a vodka and redbull and the tab was $25? Even for a double, that's a ridiculous price. But the next person who ordered a double vodka redbull was charged $12. How does that work? read more

I have only been here for electronic music shows/parties but can tell you it gets pretty buck wild on some nights. It is a small place that gets packed in for some heavy hitting headliners and expect a top notch show! It is small and intimate enough to talk to people and the performers during and after the show. Throw in the extra $10 for the VIP wristband that gets you access to the private bar/lounge area, stage left "VIP area" that over looks most of the crowd, and the views of the back of the stage. Drinks aren't over priced, security is just doing their job and not over bearing, the sound is pumping and wear plugs if you are not into that, and the visuals are always flowing, funny, and trippy. Expect the feel the music. There is usually the crews and people that have after parties that are an ootion for people wanting to keep the fun going after 3:00 a.m. The last time I was there I got a flyer for an after-afterhours party was from 6:00 a.m. to noon. Whoa. Milwaukee. Respect to the Brew City Bass Crew for bringing the constant unbeatable worldwide talent and keeping in tune with Milwaukee's underground music scene. read more

As my bro. Chris H. stated there's not a bad seat in the house. It is almost set up "in the round" and maybe we should throw some Hamlet for Dummies in there someday! Anything to get the place filled to its proper quota. As this place boasts an incredible sound system, great band offerings, lets children of All Ages enjoy in the fun while still allowing the 21 and up set to drink, I'm not sure why Miramar, Inc. ain't packing 'em in! Sometimes it's not enough to "build it and they will come" folks. Sometimes a little money needs to be put in to improve the bathrooms, at least put a Sandwich board outside with the band names that are playing, update the green room so it doesn't resemble bad 1970s porn (not that I've seen any!), and Advertise a little! If a good band is playing I will go back to Miramar, I just think a new owner could make this place into an A-One concert destination for Milwaukee. read more

I only go to the Miramar to see the Dead Man's Carnival or a comedian. I refuse to go there to see any kind of show where one might work up a sweat (ie: a concert) because there is no air conditioning. Floor seats are folding chairs, so if you want to be comfortable, sit off to the side where the cushioned theater seats are...the view is just as good, if not better, because those seats are tiered. 35/2014 read more

The Miramar is small, divey, and there is no air conditioning in the actual theater only in the bar area. However, it is an overall a great place to see a show! Sure some of the seats are broken, and it can get pretty warm/humid in the actual theater during the summer months, but its all part of the unique charm of the Miramar. Ticket prices for various shows are reasonable, not over priced/bank-breaking such as Bradley Center concerts. The drinks aren't ridiculously expensive. The women's restroom is super clean. It is conveniently located on Oakland Avenue and it is usually not too difficult to find parking on the nearby streets. After my last time here to see Bad Romance, a Lady Gaga tribute show (it was AMAZING btw!), I became a "fan" of the theater on FB to keep up with upcoming shows... I didn't realize how many acts and events play here. I definitely plan on coming back in the future :) read more

Biggest waste of money got kicked out within an hour for getting a glass of water and being accused it's alcohol, when I asked them to smell it I was grabbed by my arms and my dress fully went up to my stomach with everything exposed, they did not care and let me, 18 year old girl be on the streets of Milwaukee ALONE at midnight. Ah, Miramar, You've been around since 1913. You're old and a bit run-down, but I really appreciate you, not as an architectural icon; you never were a movie palace. What fancy interior decorations you may have had are long gone. That's O.K., you're still historical. Remember back from 83` to 95` when you were a church? Yeah me neither, but the Eastbrook Church purchased you days before you were supposed to be demolished. They repaired and remodeled you. Eventually, they outgrew you and moved on, but you're still here, and I'm glad. Some folks don't appreciate you, and they won't until you're gone. Yeah, you're divey, and I've heard you run a little hot in the summertime, no air conditioning will do that. I won't sit up front on your folding chairs again if I can help it, you've got plenty of comfy theatre seating that's close to the action. Your concerts have sounded great. My favorite show was Reverend Horton Heat. I've seen Doug Stanhope, and most often The Dead Man's Carnival (they're home theatre). You're a decent venue Miramar. Intimate and affordable. Yeah, your prices have gone up a few bucks for admission and drinks are a little more (PBR Tallboy $4), but that's happening everywhere, and you're still worth it. read more

It's pretty tiny inside. They need to hire some janitorial staff - the dance floor was half gum and littered with straws, every surface was covered with partially empty drink containers, and the bathrooms were atrocious. Worst of all, they advertised a show from 3-10 but cut it off at 8:30?? Not the best experience. read more

Dear Miramar , You have hosted so many amazing shows I have been here prolly over 20 times. The memories, the sounds, the excitement, the friends i have made in these walls. You cant put a price on. Miramar, oh Miramar how i love you. I love your intimate theater that is big yet feels like a band is playing just for you and your 30 best friends. Miramar I love your tiny little bathroom that is so amazingly old and yet always seems cleaned even though you know people throw up pabst from the bar. I've always had a ton of fun at this place! Maybe because Gary is always the promoter when we're there, but still - tons of fun! The stage is high, and the seats are in a semi-circle, and on risers so you never have to say "that tall guy's head in your way." Any band who plays here is going to love it. Everything form the greenroom, to the backstage, to the room of the sides of the stage are wonderful. They are very accomodating and they always draw a good crowd. At least for the goth/industrial shows I've been there to see. read more

Moth Radio Hour MKE. Fun times. ($8). But this is about the venue, not the act. The miramar is convenient to my apartment (1 block!). What the other reviews do not prepare you for is the dirt. The falling apart seats. The silent era upholstery. Still deserves 4 stars, as long as you are now prepared for a dingy theater. Again, I liked it, but I would have wanted to know the condition of the space before say taking an important business client or your significant other's parents for a night of MKE magic. read more

I recently played a show here and wow. I don't know where to begin, really. The theater is small which isn't a bad thing. However, the upkeep on the theater itself is another thing... The seats are falling apart, it smells musty, the side stage (which isn't really connected to the stage) is falling apart, the stage curtains are a joke and there is NO AIR CONDITIONING!! I couldn't believe it! In the middle of the summer you don't have air for your employees or guest performers let alone your audience?! Holy hell on Earth. I don't know about other acts that play here but we have dancers! How are dancers supposed to perform in conditions like that? I almost passed out during the show because of the heat and added heat from the lights. Well enough about the air... I still can't get over it... clearly! The staff was really nice in the bar area. The engineers were good too, however, it seemed like they didn't really want to be there. Not a very enthusiastic bunch! It may have been because they were high (probably shouldn't do that riiiight before set up), who knows. My last complaint... During the show, the security guard they had there was out of control! VERY rude to all of us. He actually told us that if our equipment cases end up missing it's not on him... well then what is the purpose of your job? I'm pretty sure the security behind stage is probably making sure none of our things get stolen... I could be wrong. Who knows. Either way the show was a success and that's all that really matters. But for those promoters who are looking for a place to book a gig... I would do some recon on this place before booking. read more

Miramar, it has been so long since I was last in you. It's such a tiny club, and the performers they attract are by no means high profile (although I have seen both Project Pitchfork and The Birthday Massacre here--not mega-artists by any means but they're not nobodies). Like Danielle I. said, the feeling here is very intimate. The performer's stage isn't much higher than you and the club isn't big enough for a ton of people so you end up, no matter what, being on close to the same level as them. You'll find your eyes meeting with the performer's quite a bit, and there's really something to be said for that. The seats that line the pit are a good idea. In my younger days (what the hell am I talking about!? I'm only 23!) I used to defend my position at shows through the whole night, but anymore it's nice to have a seat and a drink between sets. This place is small enough where I can do that without feeling like I'm going to be relegated to a spot where I can't see, dance, or jump into the mosh pit that has just opened up. The acoustics aren't *terrible.* Is this a recording quality venue? Probably not. But the sound every show I've heard here has been reasonably clean, and most places in Milwaukee are worse on the acoustics front. read more

I came here for the first time last night for a Moth event. I bought my tickets ahead of time, which cost $10 more - I probably wouldn't do that again considering it didn't start filling up until about 10 minutes before the show started. The middle was filled with folding chairs, and the sides were more movie theater seating. I opted for more comfortable seats in my book, and had a perfect view - as others have said I really don't think there would be a bad seat. They have a full bar with liquor, wine and beer. $3 cans of PBR and I was good to go. They accept cash and credit which is nice, I just left my tab open. The staff was attentive and friendly, and I had a lot of fun. It's small and dingy - and you love it for that fact. read more

I visited the Miramar for the Deadman's Carnival a couple weeks ago and I'll start off by saying I wish there was a separate place I could review the DMC from the theater itself. Maybe I just haven't been to a lot of theaters, but the Miramar seems like kind of a dump. The seating on the floor was uncomfortable, the bathrooms were extremely tiny for a venue this size, and the bartenders seemed stressed and overworked. I'll go again for the DMC, but I'll plan ahead. read more

PARANOID ID POLICY. I've been here a couple times without issue. Tonight, I went here to support a friend who was DJing. Upon arriving I paid the cover fee and got my ID checked at entrance and a wristband given to me that said I was of age. Upon ordering drinks, I was asked for my ID again. I showed my ID and wristband which both verified my age. I had my real ID taken and told it was fake by the bartender. I told him that he could call Milwaukee PD and they could verify it (I'm 22). He told me didn't want to do that and disappeared with it for 5-10 minutes to find a friend who "knew ID's better." I waited around the bar until he came back. When he did, he let me know that he couldn't find his friend and that he'd "just have to trust me" and then served me. I understand that underage drinking is a problem there, but that should be solved with scanners or competent bouncers, bartenders, and communication between them. read more

Miramar Theatre is a cool place to see up and coming bands. With seating that is almost in the round there is not a bad seat in the house. Also it boasts one of the best sound systems in Milwaukee. So grab a seat and enjoy some cool bands that you never heard of and some that you have....because this may be one of the best live music venues around. read more

I sort of wondered if this was the theatre would be cold - young, musically-oriented trendy boys and girls not caring for heating bills, in my half-worried judgmental imagination - and though I hoped that would be a joke, it was not, and it was only a bit chill. I have never had such poor customer service in my life. On new years eve the owner argued with my husband and actually told us to leave. They were so unorganized, rude and down right mean. They do not have any idea how to run a business. I will not ever attend another event here. The phone number is disconnected when you look it up on google maps and the owner actually argued with me that it was not. I never understand why an owner does not do everything they can for good customer service. read more

Horrible dirty crap hole. Small and filthy, the capacity may be 200 or 300, not sure. Bathrooms filthy, bar prices outrageous, bartenders not even close to friendly, don' t event try to be helpful or polite. Staff not helpful if anything at all goes wrong, or if you have any questions or problems. Two up- front employees were quite nice and tried to be helpful and apologetic when things went bad. Security guard the most rude man I have met in my 56 years of life. Bathrooms inadequate for the amount of people allowed inside, seats dirty, carpet dirty. Couldn' t wait to get out of there and get a breath of fresh air. Hard to believe place could pass any sort of inspection. On one side of theater, there is a big triangle of flooring jutting out into what looks like the aisle, hard to see when lights are low, one man tripped and went flying but hopped right up because he was a young man, hate to see an older person trip on that. They oversold and people were allowd to just stand and sit in aisles. Don't go there unless you are desperate for an affordable venue. Maybe try the local junk-yard first. read more
