    Wire and Nail playing

I have gone to Tosa Tonight several times. Out of the free music venues / outdoor concerts in the Milwaukee area this probably has the best quality performers. They do seem to have different genres. Today was Wire and Nail and then Miles Nielson and the Rusted Hearts. Tosa Tonight is on 9 Wednesdays through the summer. Opening acts start at 6 (was more like 6:30 tonight) and main acts start at 7:30. The sound quality is high from the Rotary stage. It's pretty loud so I stay in the back. The full lawn was full although not over crowded. There's a small parking lot immediately next to the concert lawn. There's also a parking lots a bit over by the football / tennis area. The lawn is somewhat sloped so everyone can see, but it's not as steep as Chill on the Hill. I typically park on Honey Creek Parkway but you should get there before or at 6 to not walk too far. Food / drink includes The Ruby Tap, Big Head Brewery, BB's, Maxie's / Buttermint, Leff's, and Pete's Pops.

Honestly my favorite music in the park of all of the Milwaukee area. They have musicians that I have heard of and want to listen to. There are tons of food options, including black shoe hospitality, brats and burgers. They have different genres on the different weeks. Lots of people but easy to see because it's on a hill!

Live music in the Summer sunshine. It doesn't get any better than this!

According to the 2010 Census, there are 46,396 residents living in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. And based on my estimation, about 43,847 of them are missing out on the coolest event in Wauwatosa. What do those 2,549 know that the others don't? They know about the Tosa Tonight Summer Concert Series. Since 2008, the Tosa Tonight Summer Concert Series has been held at the beautiful Rotary Performance Pavilion just off 68th and State. The series has hosted as few as four performances per year, but the 2014 schedule is loaded with seven. Recent years' performers have been widely varied, offering a little something for everyone: pop, jazz, classical, R&B, rock, and, of course, Celtic. It's that latter one that brings out the 'tosans in droves. Wauwatosa folk sure love bagpipes and bouzouki. The Celtic concert always occurs the weekend before Milwaukee's massive Irish Fest. Generally the performers are top-draw acts at the fest including The Red Hot Chili Pipers, Gaelic Storm and my favorite, Scythian. (Scythian is on the 2014 schedule--I recommend them highly!) As much as I enjoy Celtic night, my favorite is the Yellow Phone Music Conference (YPMC) night. The first one was held in 2013. YPMC's goal is to bring together unsigned artists and leaders in the music business. It's at Tosa Tonight's YMPC preview night that you'll see and hear Wisconsin musicians making interesting and current music. 2013's version was an all-star cast of sorts highlighting Trapper Schoepp & The Shades with Joe Crockett (The Championship), Frankie Lee (MPLS), Chris DeMay (Juniper Tar), Joseph Huber (.357 String Band), Quinn Scharber (of, like, a hundred bands in Miwaukee) and Tim Schweiger who has played with Tommy Stinson (the Replacements!). 2014's YPMC night hosts one of my favorite Milwaukee bands: Hugh Bob & The Hustle featuring Hugh Bob Masterson right out of Butternut, Wisconsin and the aforementioned Quinn Scharber. These guys have filled Turner Hall at $10 a ticket, but Wauwatosans will be fortunate to see these guys for free! Well, maybe not totally free. See, unlike Milwaukee's Jazz in the Park, people are permitted to bring in their own refreshments, but really... don't be a dink. Support the series by bringing your own blankets, chairs, flameless candles, etc., but slake your thirst from one of the event's sponsors. Your food and beverage purchases directly raise money for the ongoing non-profit operation of the Pavilion and future concerts. If you bring your own, I'll totally judge you. So come on all 43,847 of you Wauwatosans. Join me and enjoy Summer at the Rotary Performance Pavilion on Wednesday nights. Bring the kids. Bring the grandparents. Even bring your friends from *gasp* Brookfield. They'll be surprised to discover how cool life is east of Highway 100! ;)

There's two things that are unique about this Oktoberfest celebration. Firstly, it's the "first" or earlier that the traditional celebrations in September do you can get all warmed up for the Masskrugstemnen or polish up those polka skills. Second - beer! Kegel's Oktoberfest has about a dozen local breweries pouring their versions of German style beer. Black Husky, Third Space, Westallion, Bavarian Bierhouse and many more I can't recall. It's like a mini beer fest!, with lots of camaraderie between all of the local brewers. Of course you can also get traditional Hofbrau too. Prices were very reasonable too - most beer was $5/half liter or $9/liter. You could also bring your own stein or use a proper glass one with a $5 deposit. What else? A small kids area with games and bouncy houses, tasty German food from Kegels, cultural booths and great music from Milwaukee Blaskapelle. If you ever wanted to buy Artisanal Brandy Old Fashioned beard oil (I am serious, people) you can do it here. Definitely mark your calendars for this one, folks - it's a great time.

It is called the first Oktoberfest street party because it's the first year they actually closed the street. Plus the timing at the end of August makes it one of the first Oktoberfest usually Oktoberfest starts mid September . I believe this might be the 9-10 year of the Kegel fest where they used the parking lot out back for a tent party. I've been invited a few times by a relative of the family who happens to be related to a lion in the past. I've actually known Julian since he was a toddler. And worked along side his father in the bike business especially during the biggest sales at state fair park. This Friday and Saturday party is the kickoff to the Chris Kegel's slow roll bike ride that starts at state fair park utilizing trails and street rides to get to walkers point and back to Kegel's at a casual pace to allow you to enjoy the ride. There is a 2 level suggested donation offering support and VIP support with nice perks. Food 5 Ambiance 5 plenty of clean port a johns Service 3 plenty of beer venders I believe there were 15 craft beer venders with 2 selections each along with a larger beer service at the dining/beer tent. expect a long Line but the line moves quite quickly Location 4 plenty of street parking Value 4 the food was well priced and portions were perfect imo. Crafts were 5 for a half liter 9 for a full liter and domestic beers were also available. 36/2018

The modern day Milwaukee Brewers was established in 1968 as the Seattle Pilots, which was then moved a year later to Milwaukee by owner Bud Selig, who also became the MLB baseball commissioner in 1998. He held the title of acting commissioner since 1992. Actually, the original Milwaukee Brewers was established in 1901, which then became the present day Baltimore Orioles. So when Selig moved the team to Milwaukee, they became the official Brewers again. They also played in the American League from 1969 to 1997. They were in the West Division from 1968 to 1971, then reassigned to the East Division from 1972 to 1993, then reassigned again to the Central Division from 1994 to 1997. In 1998, they changed conference to the National League staying in the Central Division to present day. The Brewers is appropriately named to honor the city's beer-brewing tradition. One of their original logo was the Beer Barrel Man, which is designed in a cartoonish way with a barrel for chest, a beer tap for his nose and was nicknamed as "Owgust" to embody and honor the whimsical spirit of the minor leagues. The most iconic logo was the glove design with a baseball in the middle, the three finger webbings as the "M" and the thumb stood for the "B" for Milwaukee Brewers. This was their logo from 1978 to 1993 and it was one of the coolest logos in baseball. The owners decided to change it to generic-looking "MB" with two baseball bats crossed in the middle. I know lots of fans were upset about this, and they eventually brought the logo back to some capacity. The Brewer player I remember growing up as a San Francisco Giants fan was Robin Yount. He spent his entire career with the Brewers, which is rare nowadays with free agency and ring-chasing among players. He started as a shortstop and finished as a center fielder from 1973 to 1994. A long and illustrious career that resulted in two AL MVP's (1982, 1989), 3x All Star (1980, 1982, 1989), Gold Glove (1982), 3x Silver Slugger Award (190, 1982, 1989), which culminated to being inducted to Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. During his 20 year career, he batted an average of .285, had 3, 142 hits, 251 homeruns and 1,406 RBI's. Then when you think of Milwaukee Baseball, there's the legendary Bob Uecker, also known as "Mr. Baseball" given by the late Johnny Carson. He has been the play-by-play announcer for the club since 1971, and is still going strong to this day. He's also played himself in countless movies and his famous line is, "Just a bit outside." He is truly a treasure not just in Baseball, but in sports broadcasting. OK, being a San Francisco Giants fan, I gotta tie this in somehow. Several Giants players were chosen to play in the All Star game in 2002, which was held at Miller Park (the ballpark's original name), and Barry Bonds participated in the HR Derby. This is also the only All Star game that resulted in a tie, which led to the ridiculous rule that the winner of the All Star game gets the home-field advantage in the World Series. Thank goodness they got rid of the rule in 2016. On Friday, May 27, 2011, San Francisco Giants Shortstop Brandon Crawford made his major league debut and hit a grand slam against Brewers pitcher, Shaun Marcum, giving the Giants a 5-4 lead, and eventually winning the game. How's that for your first big league hit? As far as rivalries are concerned, the Giants and Brewers doesn't have must history against each other as they play in a different division. However, there's a mutual respect between ball clubs and Giants play-by-play announcer Duane Kuiper, half of the "Kruk & Kuip" tandem, is from Sturtevant, Wisconsin, and always has a lot of fond stories to tell regarding growing up in the area and the history of baseball. I hope this review made you proud, Chadrick. Hope to see your team in the playoffs.
