I'm glad that i didn't look at the Yelp reviews before stopping in this business. My experience was very nice. I did not schedule an appointment in advance. Jackie was my manicurist. She removed my old shellac from my toes for a fee of $10. I got a regular pedicure and a gel manicure. The total for all services was $100.36. She was very thorough with every process. My nails look great! My only complaint is that she could be more gently with the cuticle pushing process. I would definitely return here the next time I visit Puerto Rico. The music was nice and everyone was friendly. I chatted for a while with a man that does hair. He shared some pictures and stories about his life. He was fun. Got same day appt but upon arrival, stylist said he needed 1/2 hr to finish drying someone. I left & came back, waited 15 min more, then got shampooed & sat wet headed, watching him blow dry the same 4' wide section of woman's head & try to unsuccessfully cut a straight line through it repeatedly for the next 15 min. I have short, fine hair so a bad style would be obvious! An hour wait w him grabbing flat irons & frying the same area of that woman's hair & I had to just leave. The jovial atmosphere was not enough to compensate for not even getting a cut at all. They phoned 1hr 17min after my cut time to say he was finally ready & I diplomatically said I just couldn't wait anymore. Do not walk into this salon and take any available nail tech. Get a referral first and book someone you know has experience. My nail tech was on her phone for my gel polish removal and about to remove my cuticles without soaking them first. I waited for a moment to be sure this was really about to happen. Before she could begin butchering my very dry cuticles, I interrupted her call, stopped my manicure and walked out. On a previous appointment two weeks prior to this one, my nail tech buffed my gel polish through some of my nails. I have been here twice while on vacations in San Juan... Both times I got a blowout and today also a pedicure. Raved about my first blowout for years as "best blowout I ever got" and went back today and Miranda's didn't disappoint. The woman who helped me was friendly and took her time, I have extensions on and she was very gentle with them and my hair came out photo shoot ready ( sadly I don't have a photo shoot to do). Also got a pedicure and was in a hurry so asked for just a Polish change but the pedicurist saw the bottoms of me feet and insisted on busting out the most effective foot skin sander to smooth my feet. My 4 year old and I booked appointments for mani/ pedis while on vacation. This was the best experience I have had - I was blown away! Mallory took tremendous care and was attentive to my delicate skin, which is thin around the nail bed - her attention to detail made my nails/ hands look like absolute perfection. She was meticulous and caring. The energy of the salon was upbeat and friendly. Everyone loved having a little girl to care for - they made my daugher feel at ease and comfortable. She can be shy as she doesn't get her nails done often and doesn't speak/understand Spanish. The warmth of the staff made her nerves disappear. If I lived here, this would be my salon. Waste of time and money. For a $66.90 mani/pedi, I had the sloppiest service with no real apology from management even though I expressed my dissatisfaction. This place fails on all three critical fronts: price, quality and hygiene. So you understand, the woman charged with my mani/pedi (1) was insanely rough in clipping and prepping my toes, using what felt like an industrial grade plug-in sander to grind callouses - very uncomfortable and far from relaxing, and questionably unhygienic, (2) started with the wrong color polish on the toes and almost failed to properly remove the wrong color before applying the correct color, (3) failed to use toe separators, reflecting her laziness, when I could see clearly that the woman next to me had her toe separators properly inserted by her pedicurist - I thus insisted she observe this step, and after pulling in the manager, she did, (4) for my fingernails, failed to have all her equipment in one station and wasted time shuffling back and forth trying to locate different nail implements, (5) TOOK A PHONE CALL ON HER CELLPHONE WHILE PAINTING MY NAILS (YEAH....), (6) while painting my fingernails, took the lazy route and USED HER FINGERNAILS TO CLEAN STRAY PAINT AROUND THE NAIL LINE - SO FREAKING UNSANITARY, and I pointed this out at check-out because I was pretty DISGUSTED, (7) didn't apply the paint and top coat evenly, (8) while drying my finger nails, expected me to hold my hands at an odd angle about 2 feet off the table for however long it would take rather than placing the fan at a convenient spot and (9) heavily pressed down on my nails to check if they were dry, possibly undermining all the work. So, basically, most of procedure was sloppy and deficient in some way, and the results were not great. Of the many issues, #1 and #6 were most bothersome since they relate to the less sanitary aspects of my experience. I obviously did not tip at all, particularly after the very pricey service to begin with. All that to say, while it is possible you could have a better experience, this woman is still part of Miranda's staff, which to me suggests the salon does not hold its employees up to a precise and demanding standard. If you can avoid this place, please do. Save your money for cocktails and crepes next door or for two doors down, Bar Gitano, which is terrific. read more

What an absolute rip-off this place is. I called to find out prices on haircuts, I have a short pixie cut that needed a trim. After all is said and done, the tab was $69.00++tax. $35 for the haircut and $35.00 to blow it f"in dry. Are you kidding me? That is absolutely ridiculous. I guess I should have waited till I got home to have it cut. The stylist was Jose - can't say he was very gentle with the comb or the scissors since he smacked in the face multiple times with the comb and dropped it on the ground and proceeded to pick it up and continue to use it. He didn't blink an eye when that happened. I know that they have rules and regulations when that happens. Stylists in the states use a new comb when that happens. Also we are here reviewing schools with beauty programs and even I know that is not an acceptable practice. The girl said at the desk that this is the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and things are more expensive here. Wow, was my bullshit meter off today. read more

I went back to fix them and she attempted to clean around the edges and she must've been thinking if painting on the side of a building. I was in San Juan searching for reviews pertaining to nail salons in the area and came across this place. Being that I would be leaving for my cruise later that day, it was urgent that I found something quick. The lady that made my reservation was very pleasant to talk to, and also greeted me upon my arrival. I sat down and was given the price to pay for what I wanted to have done Full Set: $65 and a polish change for $10. Which brought me to a total of $83 after taxes. The older lady started on my full set and the glue wouldn't adhere to my nail, she had trouble finding nails to fit my nail, filed mostly my skin, and continued to cut me with the drill without much sympathy. It was very obvious that she wasn't use to doing nails or that she hadn't done them in a while because of how slow and inconsistent the service was. Once my full set was finished she asked me to pick out a color and I stated that I didn't want to pick one, mainly because of the dissatisfaction I felt with the appearance of my nails. Now, on to my toes. Horrible, something I would've had a much better result doing myself. There was polish everywhere, especially in the crease of my toes, it didn't look like she cleaned up around them at all. I went to Mirandas Beauty on Sunday, it's Tuesday and my acrylic is chipping already, and I hate the overall appearance of both my nails and my feet. Mostly I'm really disappointed that I paid $80 for this service not to be fully satisfied, they knew I was unhappy and failed to offer any type of discount to my service. I have been a customer since December. I have to say that the service and attention I have gotten from the owners and staff have been excellent. Recently I was not pleased with a root color touchup, and as soon as I made it known, plans were set in motion to fix it to my satisfaction at no extra cost. The ambiance is super chill with great vibes and I love how everyone just talks and interacts with each other it gives it a warm and genuine feeling . I went in in for a pedicure. I failed to ask the price up front. I assumed the price would be reasonable. I received an perfectly fine pedicure. The woman who did it was nice (people are generally really nice here in San Juan). There was nothing bad about it, although the water for the foot bath was oddly not warm but cool. There was also nothing great about it. Afterwards, when asked by the owner, a charismatic woman, I told her it was great. Why not? But when I went to pay, I was shocked. The charge was $45, plus tax, for a total of $51. I'm a guy. No nail polishing, no nail polish. Easy. $45? With nothing special added (no extended foot/leg massage, mask, polish, etc.)? When I complained and said if they wanted such high prices they should post the prices so I'd know what to expect. The owner Miranda politely told me to screw off. Miranda also represented to me that $45 was the going rate, that I might get $43 down on Loiza. I investigated to see if she was telling me the truth. First I called Manzana, just a few blocks down Ashford in Condado. They told me they charge $25. Next I called Beyond Salon, about two blocks from Miranda on Magdalena. They said $45, but offered a 15% discount for a first time visitor. Next I called Saline on Luisa. They quoted $38. Next I called Regal Nail, on RH Todd. They quoted $25. Euphoria on Ashford (down toward the Vanderbilt) quoted $38 for basic, $45 for the deluxe (with mask), and $50 for the Oxygen version. In sum: You can pay $45 if you want. But you can pay $25 at Manzana about four blocks down Ashford, which also has much better reviews. read more

$35 for wash and blowout. Not bad, I guess. The wash was rough. Water in my face, fingernail to the ear, water dripped down to my clothes as I walked to the chair. The blowout was rougher. I got bumped in the head with the hair drier twice, burned my ear, burned my forehead, burned my cheek. The chair was uncomfortable, nowhere to put my feet, so they just dangled there. He would spin me around and tangle my feet with cords or bump them against his own legs. It was just awkward and so, so, so clumsy. The end result was OK (leaning towards good), but the whole experience is not worth the cost in my opinion. I really wanted to like this place because they were so friendly. I went in the day before I got my pedicure to ask how much a pedicure was. $20 is what I was told. I was stoked! 20 bucks for a pedicure in a nice part of town? I am loving my Puerto Rico vacation! HOWEVER....went in the next day and got a wonderful pedicure. Excellent experience, except for one thing...the price. 53 dollars later, I was not a happy tourist. Not impressed with the work or professionalism of this place. Jose did my hair for a formal event. I just wanted it down with big beachy looking waves. He greeted me with a mouth full of food and continued to eat while talking with me for a consultation. He didn't wash my hair, he didn't use any product in my hair, not even hair spray so of course my curls started to come out immediately. They over charge for their services. $65 plus tax for him to curl my hair and didn't even style it and like I said before...ZERO product used. Pathetic. I requested a nice down hairdo with a simple braid. The lady was nice and washed my hair, blow dried, curled my hair and did a braid to my satisfaction. However, once I reached the counter, I was charged $105.00. I was not consulted on the actual price. My friend was told that a hair style starts at $45 via calling over the phone. Checking my account transactions, I was charged 127. Wayyy overpriced! Felt taken advantage of as well as my friend who has short hair and was charged the same, which didn't seem to make entirely too much sense. Just don't want others to be taken advantage of here! Miranda gave me a fabulous haircut. I live in Manhattan and was looking for someone to trust to cut my hair for about a year now. Every time I was about to get it cut in the last year, I opted for only a shampoo and blow out, fearing that the haircut wouldn't go well. And as we all know, better to need a haircut than have a haircut that doesn't work. I went in for a shampoo and blow-out but I was getting a good vibe about going ahead with a haircut. So, naturally, at first, I asked for a little trim but as Miranda was trimming I could just tell that she was good so I went for it and let her take some length off and cut layers into my hair. Tourists, be ware! pricing is questionable! I asked my hotel for a recommendation for a place to get a blowout and get my nails done. She said that she gets her gel nails done there for $20. I called to make an appointment to which they told me that gel nails are $35. I agreed and gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe the front desk staff doesn't remember correctly or gets a better deal as a local. I ask about the blowout, to which they say $35. I got my nails done - the tech was really nice. When I went to pay they asked for $120!! When I asked how come, they said my nails were $45 (They want to charge me for removing the gel! well how else would you give someone a manicure before removing the gel!! and why wasn't I informed of this updated pricing beforehand?). And that my hair is long so therefore my blowout went from $35 to a ridiculous $65!!! TOTAL SCAM!!!! I complained but they couldn't care less. I asked how come they wouldn't tell me when I walked in that my blowout would cost double? No comment! I said I was not happy and that it is not fair to double the price without a heads up (Honestly at this point I could have gone to the best salon in town and pay less!) and they again couldn't care less. I left pretty upset and it ruined the whole experience. My blowout was mediocre at best, he didn't even bother style my hair. One of the worst I have had in a long time. I went in without an appointment and was greeted by the receptionist in the middle of eating. I went to this salon to get a hair cut and purple highlights. I ended up paying $187 for a hair cut and FOUR foils of color. My stylist assured me repeatedly that the highlights were permanent. Less than a week went by and the highlights had completely washed out. There was not a hint of color left after about four days. So basically I paid over $200 (with tip) for a mediocre hair cut and temporary highlights! I contacted the salon repeatedly in an attempt to get a refund for my highlights, by email because I am not in the country, and did not receive a single response. They allowed me to pay a ridiculous price for a product that they did not deliver. DO NOT go here. The prices are ridiculous, the quality of the product is clearly not good, and they are obviously not looking for customer retention because they do not respond to complaint e-mails. You can most definitely find a much much much better salon in Condado. If I could give this Salon less than one star I would. Do not waste your money. read more

I was hesitant about posting a review since this place is getting only bad reviews and mine is no different. It's already down, should I add more salt to the wound? Oh, yes! Sorry, Miranda but you're a mediocre salon and you've earned your bad reputation. I was horrified by the service. I went for a haircut and left with a traumatic experience (an expensive one nonetheless). I ask for a simple trim, simple enough right? Well not there. The guy, who I suspect was a student or new at the place, seated me facing the wall instead of the mirror. I pointed out that I'd feel more comfortable facing the mirror since I'd like to see what's going on. Did he care? Of course not! "Well, he must know what he's doing," I lied to myself. The trim became a full butchery. When finally he allowed me to face the mirror: The HORROR! I looked as if I've been through three months of chemotherapy. To say that I was pissed-off would undermine the whole situation. Of course I complained to the butcher-in-training who did this to me and he couldn't care less. No one did. "You should have told him to stop cutting," they had the nerve to say, blaming me for the whole thing. I was facing the freaking wall!! On top of that I had to pay for this nightmare of a service. I warn you now - this place thrives upon utterly ripping off tourists .I went here for a standard leg-wax (full leg) as the Marriott had no availability. and I stupidly did not ask how much it would be beforehand, mostly because it was clearly a lower-end place compared to the hotel, where the prices were around $70-80, which are expensive but stomach-able. The lady did a reasonable job of the waxing itself (took about 20 mins, painless but not particularly thorough), however when I went to pay the guy behind the desk, who appeared to be the owner, he asked what I had done (full leg), then paused for a moment before coming out with a total price of $123. When I told him that it was absurd, and that it should be no more than $50-60, he told me that they charge $55 PER LEG, and this was their standard way of pricing. I've had my legs waxed all over the world and I've never heard of this per-leg policy in my life. I then asked him to provide me with a price list (they had nothing advertised visibly anywhere) and he mumbled something about having none of them left, and that $123 was the price and that was that. I was referred to them by Euforia after they weren't able to keep my appointment due to overbooking. They were kind enough to call, get a price, and make an immediate appt. for me. Unfortunately Miranda Salon was anything but high end and professional. The manicure was OK (paint discoloration, not smooth lines, and was obviously not a perfectionist) for my standards, but please note I get a mani once a week and am very picky. What killed me was that when I asked how much (already knowing the quote was $20 for a mani from the personnel from Euforia) they increased the price to $35. I asked to see a price list which the front desk personnel explained we don't have one. This is a $$$$ classification on Yelp and they don't have a price list... Ya right! I paid the amount and gave a $5 tip because it is not the nail tech's fault she works at a scrupulous salon. I made sure they understood that I felt ripped off and didn't appreciate the $15 increase for not being a local. I have no problem paying top dollar for a high end experience however this was anything but high end. I have an apartment in Old San Juan and a friend recommended this salon. It is hard finding a salon in PR that does acrylic fills. When I was finished they soaked me for $85!!! I asked why it was so expensive and was told that it is a tourist area and I should have asked the price before taking the appointment. What a rip off! And the person who did my nails did not have experience with acrylics. Get this...part of the $85 charge was $20 to remove the color. How do you do an acrylic fill without first filing off the color? I must have looked like a real chump tourist when I came in. Oh, and they use electric drills with cord plugged into the wall with a sanding disk to take the dead skin off your feet when they give a pedicure. (I kid you not.) I could not believe what I was seeing when a worker almost drop the drill in the water she was soaking the woman's other foot in. I not sure but I don't think water and electric mix very well. I have been going to Miranda for the last 19 years. It is the exceptional service that keeps me going back. I truly enjoy getting my nails done. I have acrylic nails so I usually go every other week. My favorite nail technitian is Yeysha. She caters to each client's needs. She can replicate the trendy almond, stiletto, or long, tapered-square shapes of Hollywood stars. I have very small nails yet she has never cut my fingers with the file while shaping my nails. I like to keep my nails short and despite the size and length she manages to keep them natural looking. She keeps up to date with colors and techniques. To top it all she is a really nice and funny person. She brings me up to speed with the news, music and fashion trends. She is not only a great profesional but a really joyfull person. There is never a dull moment with Yeysha. If you are ever in need of a refill, a manicure or a pedicure make sure to call her. read more

I went in this salon looking for a pedicure and a refill with a broken nail. Before getting any services I asked the prices. I was quoted 45$ for a pedicure and 35$ for a refill. I went with a refill. I was taken to the nail tech who wasn't very friendly at all. She took me to choose a gel color there were no examples of the colors you just had to choose by the bottle. Anyway I chose a color and got started. She shaped all my nails very well except the one she had to fix. I have tips on all of my other nails but she used a form to shape the broken nail. This was fine but she made the nail noticeably longer than every other nail on every finger. Ridiculously longer. To make a long story short when cashing out they charged me 78$!!!! Mind you they told me a refill was 35$!! I get it i had a broken nail and gel polish usually costs extra but 78$ for a refill and a ugly repair!! I believe because they knew I was a tourist they took advantage of me. I do not recommend this place for nails at least with the woman who sits in the front. read more
