So many options for baking! Spices galore! Foods I've never seen before! Great place to stop and pick up some unique items. We unintentionally compared it to a similar store in Penn Yan New York (we recognized some of the brands for bulk dips even), and this one was a bit smaller, darker indoors, and the service a bit lacking. Great for bulk seeds, spices, and grains as well as in-season fruits and vegetables. Forget going to Woodman's or Costco for flours. King Arthur Lancelot and Galahad @50lbs for approx $20-25? It's over $6 for 5lbs at Woodman's. They also have another building next door with pet treats. read more

Great Amish market. They have a lot of things you don't find in regular stores. A lot of bulk items repacked into smaller sizes. No electricity used so if it's overcast outside, it's fairly dark inside. They do accept checks. read more

Wonderful Amish country store! Just don't go on a really dark day, they have a few lanterns that they'll turn on but the building is mostly lit by natural light. Great selection of dry goods and basic necessities, as well as home-style medicines and bulk spices. They share a parking lot with an Amish pet supply store and thrift store that are also fabulous! This is a great GENERAL store, not a super store, nor a specialty store, the vast majority of the store is stocked with non perishable foods. With a small section of fresh produce, some cookware, utensils, and a mix of everything from gloves to homeopathic goods. While this store is Amish run, they are not selling Amish goods. They buy in bulk, repackage in store, and sell at very reasonable prices. Let's take a tour of the store, outside is both paved and dirt parking, as well as a horse and buggy only zone. Walking in the front door is a selection of flyers with updates about local businesses and events. Once inside straight ahead is checkout, to the right is a plentiful heard of shopping carts. The first isle (starting at the right from the front of the store.) has a selection of fresh produce, apples, onions, and sweet potatoes are the everyday staples complimented with seasonal accompaniments. Down the isle are an assortment of snack goods, soup mixes and the like. Next is my favorite isle, the baking isle, it contains a lovely assortment, starting from the back there is a collection of oils, vanillas, and a few other extracts. Across the aisle is a selection of flours*, baking mixes, and meals. Next to the oils and extracts is a selection of chocolate, chips, marshmallows, and sweet baking ingredients. Next up is a selection of pudding and Jello mixes, and a great dark Coco powder. Across this wonderful isle is a large selection of spices, prices are great and a ton of variety. Also on the isle is a selection of baking conditioners: malted milk powder, buttermilk powder, and powdered milk, including whole milk powder. *Oh yeah about those flours, they sell semolina flour at a great, amazing price. They stock a fair amount of King Arthur flours in a variety of repackaged sizes, 5 and 10 lbs, with 50 lbs sacks up front beyond the registers. The next isles have a good selection of snacks: classic candies, nuts, chocolate covered this and that; oats: stone cut, regular, and quick; other breakfast goods: cold cereal, muffin and pancake/waffle mixes, etc. Last but not least there is a variety of corn syrups. The back wall has a selection of dry pasta, and the last isle has a mix of cookware, and little things. Up front before the registers is a random mix of clearance items, 50 lbs sacks of potatoes. On the front wall is a mix of 25 & 50 lbs sacks of flours and oats for $13-$20 for 50 lbs including King Arthur. read more

This is a country store in the middle of a rural area. For out of towners the charm is that the store has no electricity and is staffed by the Amish community. The majority of the goods are sold in bulk. Mishler's was a bit hard to find for us because our cell service was spotty once we got into Dalton. But hey, go old school and stop at another business and ask them how to get there. That's what we did. Bring cash. The store is lit by skylights that look a bit like fluorescent lights. They heat with wood and ring up your purchases with adding machines. It's a store servicing a rural community, so yes, they have some made in China goods, some mass produced bread, some deodorant, some margarine and the like, but the majority of the merchandise and some of the appeal is the bulk goods. It seems they buy things in bulk for the store and repackage them. You can find containers and containers of dry dip mixes, oatmeal, barley and cereals, spices, spice mixes, baking mixes, sprinkles, baking chips, fruit fillings in pastry bags, noodles, soup mixes...probably almost any dry goods you could think of. It's a neat stop if you're within 30 minutes or so of the area and like to shop for foodstuffs. Keep in mind they are closed on Thursday and Sunday. read more

No phone, no lights, no website. Just Amish. Located seven miles north of Pardeeville on Hwy. 22 to Barry ROad. East two miles. Bulk Foods, Spices, Cookbooks, Herbs, Kitchenware--Misc. I think by Misc they mean all the sweets they have in bulk. When is the last time you shopped side by side with Amish women for wax coke bottles filled with blue sugar water? In bulk? Cash only. Watch out for the horses, and wave when the driver waves to you. Oh, closed Sundays and Thursdays. And the sign on the door on the way out says they are closed on May 12 (today) as it is Pentecost day. read more

There was/is a store just like this in Northern Indiana, not far from where my parents lived before they moved closer to us, in Wisconsin, so I was thrilled when I "discovered" this place! Love the fact that most things are sold in bulk, which means you have access to dried goods that you normally don't find in your regular grocery store. My wife especially loves the bags of dehydrated marshmallows, like you find in kids cereals. The place is unique in that it is run by the Amish and has no electricity, so don't bring your credit cards-it's cash only. The place is usually just lit by sky lights so it is a bit darker than you might normally be accustomed to. Don't worry though, they have kerosene lanterns for those darker, over cast days. This place is definitely "out of the way" as they service the local Amish community, but it is well worth the extra effort to find it and check it out. read more

Mishler's is a fun place to take out of state visitors who aren't used to the Amish community!

Love this store. Off the beaten path off Barry road but worth seeing the Amish residents located nearby and the horse and buggies or wagons. We encountered both on our way to Mishlers. The angled parking for cars is tight so be careful if you park there. There is also parking along the side of the building And buggy parking for the Amish. This store is run by Amish folk and has a great amount of baking and cooking supplies. Homemade, handcrafted foods in bulk- the favorite for our family is the cereal marshmallows. If you took the marshmallows out of a lot of lucky charms and put them Into a big bag. My kids love these! The veggie chips are also very addictive. The store has a small produce section, lots of bulk pastas and canned items. Take a step back in time when you check out. They use old school registers and ring everything by hand. We have only paid in cash. I was too scared to even ask if they took credit. My guess is no. But the prices are cheap and the food top Notch quality. read more

We shop at least three to five times a year at Mischler's Country Store. Living in Waupaca it's a nice hour and a half drive via Hwy 22 thru some of the nicest rolling hills and country side in WI. The store its self has the look and feel a store should have. No isles filled with ads and bins with articles that you have to dodge. There are wide isles, plenty of room for three carts side by side. The assortment of products, mostly in bulk form, are too numerous to name. If you want and need something like thread, lantern wicks or chimneys, buttons, stainless steel kitchen utinsiles and pails, shoe laces, safty pins and hankies they have them. There's a nice 'large' area filled with old fashioned remedies, salves and herbal teas. I look forward to each visit - the store is clean, stocked well and the clerks are very friendly and polite. PS: yes, there is an indoor you know what room for us English. Plenty of parking area, but please do not park in the area that has a sign for horses and buggies only! Each season brings a new look to the Amish community. read more

Wonderful Amish Bulk Food store. Everyone should be buying bread flour in 50 lbs bags and have a selection of four brands in that size. Not too touristy, mostly just Amish. A great find for us, it is almost as good as Miller's Discount Grocery in Centerville Michigan and is closer. The Dalton Amish area is a real gem. Lovely rolling wooded hills and few tourists. read more

My husband and I "discovered" this store quite by accident a couple of years ago, and have been returning regularly for the past two years. We go every 4-6 months to stock up and simply to view the changing inventory! There is nothing like this store anywhere else that we have ever found! The merchandise is unique, diverse, always fresh, and varied! We can find varieties of old-fashioned candies there that we grew up with and have not seen in decades! I have been going to this store since I was about 4 years old, so almost 20 years now! My family owns some land that we have a cabin on and every time we would go there I would beg and beg to stop at the Amish store to get a toy for the weekend and some candy. I loved to watch the Amish and as I've grown I still look forward to stopping there everytime I'm in the area. I now look forward to taking my son there and hope that as he gets older, he too, will enjoy watching the simple loving Amish families work very hard to maintain the older times. I usually buy bulk baking items, flour, sugar, corn meal, chocolate, etc. There is a huge variety of rare items. You will enjoy it: bulk spices, some produce, medicinal herbs, candys, nuts and so much more. Shopping there is truly a social experience, not a hunting excursion as it is in our large box stores.
