Wow, has Pleasant View Bakery grown! We haven't been here in several years, and back then there definitely wasn't an expanded parking lot or a 30-minute line. But I can tell you--the bakery, especially those pretzels, was so memorable that we still talk about them with our daughter today. Never did I think we'd be waiting 30 minutes just to get a pretzel, but they are STILL worth the wait! Some things haven't changed, though. The kind Amish ladies are still tallying orders on an old-fashioned cash register, you can peek in the back and watch the busy ladies making more goodies, and one girl was even singing beautifully while she worked. A stop at this Amish bakery can be delightful. They don't carry gluten-free items but have "lighter" Sourdough bread (that was already sold out during my visit). I had a donut and it was warm and delicious. It felt like a hug I couldn't resist having. The ladies are attentive...and very busy! Great little bakery. A little out-of-the-way for me but I had heard so much about it I had to go. Well worth the trip. I got the cinnamon raisin bread, pecan rolls, cashew caramel popcorn, and an apple hand pie. Everything was delicious and totally worth it! One of the previous signs shows that they are open more than just Friday and Saturday, that is no longer the case. They are only open on Friday and Saturday. This was my first time visiting Pleasant View Bakery after hearing great things from my neighbors. It's definitely a long drive, it made for a fun little field trip to rural WI, especially Amish country! When we arrived, we noticed a large parking area. The bakery is housed in a charming blue-and-white building. We didn't realize we could park right next to it, so we ended up parking farther away and walking about 3-4 minutes. Not a big deal, but since it was around 90°F that day, parking closer would have been nice! There's a small sign on the ground pointing to the bakery, and next to it is a lovely picnic area with a few tables and chairs. When we arrived, there was a small bucket with $.50 each zucchini and a beautiful garden nearby. About 20 people were ahead of us in queue but the line moved quickly--we waited roughly 20 minutes. The bakery itself is inside a small house. As you enter, shelves of fresh bread loaves line the right side, while jams and other pickled items are displayed on the left. The register is straight ahead, and behind it is the kitchen where we saw women braiding dough for pretzels--made fresh on-site! The pretzels are huge and cost $3.50 each. We bought one, and it was soft, chewy, and delicious. They also offer an assortment of baked goods like fruit pies (individual and full-size), cinnamon rolls, caramel rolls, and more. The cinnamon rolls are what they're known for, so we grabbed a couple, and my husband really enjoyed his. Near the register, they also sell day-old pastries at a discount, which is a great way to sample more items. One thing to note: they do not accept credit cards--cash only. As an Amish bakery, there's no electricity, so the space is naturally lit and a bit dim inside, but surprisingly not too hot even without air conditioning. Overall, it was a lovely experience. The baked goods were tasty, the setting was peaceful, and the atmosphere felt authentic and welcoming. We'd definitely stop by again if we're in the area. read more

If you are going on a Saturday and don't want to stand in a long line ( but worth it). Get there when they open at 8:00am. The parking lot has been extended but there is NO street parking. Honestly the parking is sufficient. We have been going to this bakery since 2006! 19 years of tradition to go to one of the best fresh made, that morning, bakery. Solid ingredients as they don't have electricity and you can watch them loading wood in the ovens in the kitchen. If you hear music it is not a radio, they are singing as they kneed dough and prepare all the breads, cinnamon rolls, banana bars, donuts, cinnamon bread, apple pies and much more. It is tight quarters as it is in the basement of a home. One way in and the same way out. It helps if you bring in your own bag and pay in cash. They do NOT take CC. Again, no electricity. One of the best Amish bakeries and worth it all. For an added treat when you are driving away, make a left turn and go onto the main road and then make a right and hit the grocery store where you will find amazing produce and herbs and lots of fun food items! The bakery is in the basement so you need to walk down a significant decline to get there. There is a small lot for parking near the house and a larger area a ways away. This place is a gem! They make the most delicious cherry pie in Wisconsin. Not cloying sweet and the cherries just burst in your mouth. The pie crust is a flaky, buttery delight and it stayed like that for the 2 days the pie lasted in our home! I liked the breads, hand pies and more. My family went nuts for the apple strudels! The only thing I would advise is, if you are a person with mobility issues, don't come by yourself or, make sure to come prepared. In summer the line can get SUPER long and you will be standing under the sun in uneven surfaces at times. Bring a folding chair, if sun sensitive bring an umbrella. The staff is lovely and the store itself is in and out, no room to just stand around. We stopped in around 9am on a Tuesday morning , and purchased bread, a pretzel with cheese sauce, and a cinnamon roll that had pecans on top. The $2 cinnamon roll was our favorite. Like other places in the area, cash and checks are the currency accepted. If we're in the area again, we will definitely get a few cinnamon rolls! Ours was spectacular. Our only negative on this visit was due to another customer coughing and not covering her mouth (no mask). Thankfully we were checking-out and could rush out of the store. Located in a tucked away Amish community, this bakery offers just about everything you could want. The Amish bakers hand make everything they sell in there. Some of my favorites are the cinnamon/pecan rolls, doughnuts and sugar cookies. Remember to bring cash since the Amish obviously don't take credit cards. the prices are very reasonable. Lines can pretty long sometimes, especially during the warmer months, but the wait is absolutely worth it. Before you go, be sure they're open. I think they're now open 8-4 on Friday and Saturday, then 8-4 on Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer. NOTE: If you're on a diet or trying to commit to one, do not even step inside. read more

This has to be the best bakery, EVER. I had been visiting this place since I was young maybe late 90's early 00's... Always great baked goods, always a line that is WELL worth the wait. Huge pretzals for $1.00 that are piping hot and blow the doors off those chain pretzel places. The cinnamon rolls and baked breads are very very good. It was a beautiful Autumn day so we decided to head out to the Dalton-Cambria area for a nice drive and to pick up some of the great Amish foodstuffs this area has to offer. Our first stop of the day was here, at Pleasant View. Having been here on a number of occasions we made sure to leave our house around 7:30 am to make sure that we got there by 8:30 am as after that the line, to get in, can get long very quickly. A couple of things you need to know about this place. First off, it is easy to miss as the sign, at the driveway is not very big, but once you turn in you'll know that your in the right place when you see all the buggies tied up and all the cars parked up front. To get to the actual bakery walk towards the farmhouse and just to the left you will see a path that leads down to a basement door off to one side. Unless you are there right at 8:00 am, when they open, you'll know that your in the right place by the line of people waiting to get in. The retail shop is small so only about 12-15 people can get in at any time. Luckily things move pretty quickly. This is a true Amish operation, which means no electricity so not only is the retail shop lit with gas lanterns but the whole baking operation is done by hand (all the mixing, kneading, etc.) and items are baked in food fired ovens, which means the smells are phenomenal (a mixture of wood fire, baking bread, and baking cinnamon rolls). It also means that it is cash only, no credit cards (not sure if they take check or not). Everything here is top notch, baked the old way, without additives and preservatives and I have yet to taste anything that wasn't really good, and they have a lot to choose from, from numerous breads and rolls, to pies, cookies, dessert bars, donuts, both glazed and fruit filled, to cinnamon rolls and pecan sticky buns and giant, soft pretzels that are to die for as well as numerous other items. And the prices are really, really great. Today's haul included 2 loaves of bread, a small pie (enough for 2-3 people) 6 pecan sticky buns, a fruit filled donut and 2 of their pretzels and the total came to $18.75. Again, bring cash as they don't take credit card. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that while the bread is really good, it isn't great. All of their breads (with the exception of their whole wheat) are basically variations on a traditional American white loaf, which means it's soft, slightly sweet, with a dense crumb and not a whole lot of depth of flavor. Pleasant View is definitely "out of the way" for most people, but it is truly worth the trip to load up on baked goods, and at these prices it is easy to load up. They do have limited hours so make sure that you come on one of the days they are open. During summer they are opened Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday, but for much of the year they are only open on Friday and Saturday. read more

This is an authentic Amish bakery. As such, you can expect amazing baked goods the likes of which you have never encountered unless you frequent Amish establishments! I'm sure the quality and flavor has everything to do with the organic nature of their ingredients and the fact that the fare are baked in brick ovens which you can see from the counter. An amazing experience. The prices will blow your mind. It's evident that the owners are working these businesses to simply make a living and not to make it rich off of you. Oh my DO NOT MISS THIS! They have greatly expanded the parking area & added a 'craft' store which is mainly Amish made furniture. The line on a Saturday morning is about an hour, wrapped around the house to the little door. There is stuff for kids to do while you're waiting. There's a swing set, tether ball & if you're brave explore behind the house to visit their sweet goats & horses. The owners do not mind & even asked my son if he wanted a ride! When you finally reach the door the scents will overwhelm you. Grab a red basket and a bunch of the white paper bags. There are fresh hot loaves of bread, rolls, large & small pies, cookies, fruit tarts, candy, donuts, and behind the counter the biggest, softest buttery pretzels you will ever have. They're massive & delicious. Get at least two. Prices are ridiculously low & the girls baking are replacing the items as fast as people are snatching them up. Absolutely amazing. Real Amish bakery that uses the most natural and simple ingredients. Hot donuts from the oven blow away anything else you have had. My favorite item is the pretzel. First off this is an Amish Bakery. They are only open on Friday and Saturday. From what I understand you also need to get there early or they sell out. There's a sign at the entrance but besides that things are not marked very well. You'll actually see the collection of buggies parked by the barn. The area looks like a typical farm and not a modern bakery. We had to stand around for a few minutes until someone drove up and then we followed them. There's a sidewalk that runs around the side of the house. The bakery is actually kind of in the basement of the house. Once you get near you can start following your nose. Everything smells delicious. The bakery room is probably a 20x20 room with metal shelves on casters and is lit by a gas lamp near the cash register. The baked goods are sitting on the shelving cooling. The line starts at the door and as you walk around you pick up the baked goods that you want. We selected 2 loaves of bread, some cookies and 2 huge cinnamon rolls and it only cost around $10. Just the experience was worth the money but the baked goods were amazing. read more

I got here later in there afternoon and there was still plenty to choose from. I got a gigantic pretzel, huge cinnamon roll, a loaf of rye bread and 2 donuts for only $7! No matter where you live in WI. this is worth the trip. The bakery goods are the best you will ever find. The prices are very reasonable. You will wait in line a bit, but it is well worth the wait.
