I have to say this about this boatbsnd crew. Having basically grown up with a fishing rod in my hand, I have to admit this is the BEST boat and crew (Head boat that is) I have ever fished with. Now at first the mates annoyed me. They kept wanting to tie my rigs on. Now for the novice fisherman that is great, but I have been Fly Fishing since I'm 8 years old, and I am now 59. After the umteenth time telling them I will tie my own rig on. I explained to them that I fly FishFish, and I probably tie more fly's on in one day than they tie rigs. They then let me do my own. Now I have also owned a 24 foot boat, and I ran a 25 foot Grady White and also a 43foot Jersey Sport Fisher. I spent many a weekend in the Canyons accessable to The Jersey Bite. So I do have the knowledge and experience to assess the product. I'm also a Sport Fisherman and I religiously do Catch And Release, so to their surprise when I caught a Striper I told them to let it go. They were do surprised that even the Captain came out and to be sure I was serious. Well I have to say that the mates and the Captain all shook my hand and basically said your a good man, too bad more people don't do that. The crew in general work their asses off and the Captain has no priblem burning fuel to ensure the boat and fishetmen are catching fish. I have been on Head Boats where the Captain goes to his destination and basically parks there till its time to go. That is not a boat I would ever go on again. The Miss Belmar is one boat that will move and move and move again to do everything possible to give their customers the best possible chance to succeed. Now you have to realize, sometimes the Captain can do everything in his power to succeed, but the fish just don't cooperate. That is not the Captains Fault. The call it FISHING not CATCHING for a reason. So no not every trip is going to produce, but this Crew will do everything possible to cstch them. I highly recommend this boat to fish on, in fact thisvis the only boat I will use snymore, and that statement is this boat and crew, and I will standby it. Our group had a terrible experience but giving the 2 star rating instead of one because of the crew being excellent and helpful. Maybe it was not all the boat's fault but definitely one of the worst outings our group of friends have had. When we went, the waves and wind were super strong so the boat was super rocky. Half the boat ended up getting sick and throwing up (we had 5/9 people in our group throw up within the first hour; needless to say, none of us ended up fishing at all after that). There was throw up on the floors, the decks, the garbage cans, really unsanitary. The thing that made it worse was that there was absolutely no fish and no bites the whole day. No one on our boat caught any fish. Since there were absolutely no fish, many of us were asking the crew if we could head back early but the captain would not turn back (even though I think he knew that there would be little or no fish the rest of the day). I think this is what bothered us the most, that the captain refused to turn back even though there were no fish activity at all the whole day. This was the first time many of us went deep sea fishing and definitely not what we expected. That being said, the crew was nice and friendly and would help whenever they could. They had no control on whether or not we could turn back early or not. My recommendation for first time deep sea fishers, 1. Go out when the weather is nice and the winds are not so strong 2. Check the fishing reports and make sure that fish are biting 3. If you get sea sick easily, take motion sickness medicine several hours before read more

Well what do you want? To go fishing on a party boat? The Miss Belmar Princess to me is the best vessel around. I live down here at the beach year round. I know all the party boats from the Raritan Bay down through Point Pleasant. The Miss Belmar Princess is the only one I go on really. WHY? Glad you asked. Its LONGER. Longer means less rolling while underway. She bridges the swells. It is FASTER. I think it has three engines? You really are going to feel it while speeding to the schools of fish. I'ts MORE COMFORTABLE. I love going up to the UPPER FLOOR ROOFTOP DECK. I stretch myself out on a lounge chair when it's nice, and well, that's nice!!!! Also always a good knowledgeable crew to help out if you need anything. The schools of fish are not always around, but the captain does well finding them. I've peeked into the pilot house more than a few times and I'm pretty sure there isn't more he could have in there as far as electronics. I have been skunked with no fish, and received a free return coupon. Now that is CLASS. Its a tough business with razor thin margins. Government Regulations, the cost of fuel being what it is, maintenance of something the public comes in and treats like they don't own it, frankly I don't know how these guys do it. My granddaughter 9 years old had been requesting I take her out deep sea fishing when I go. Her only experience fishing was from a small pond up state NY, and local crabbing from piers in New Jersey. I myself am from New York and she lives in New Jersey. One day we traveled down to the fishing fleet in Belmar. I spoke with a number of the customers departing the boats and ALL spoke highly of their experiences fishing from Belmar. Next I spoke with a captain and explained I was planning on taking my granddaughter out. He was very informative regarding the catch, however he suggested that I go out on another boat besides his. He said any boat in the fleet will not disappint, only because his day is extended by approximately 2 more hours. He recommended the Miss Belmar. Two weeks later we were on the Miss Belmar fluke fishing. My granddaughter was advised by her mother to wear a life preserve. The mate (very pleasant female, with a captains license) on the Miss Belmar this particular day assured her she would be very safe w/o the life preserver on. But she did explain where and how to access the preservers. So things started off GREAT and continued for the remainder of the day. My granddaughter caught a fluke before me, she caught more than me and came in second in the biggest fish caught. We both had a GREAT day. Finished the day in a fabulous restaurant in town. I just returned home from a trip earlier on The Miss Belmar's Striped bass trip. I can tell you from someone who is frequently on party boats this one is top notch. This crew is STELLAR every last one of the were helpful from the moment we pulled up in the parking lot a mate helped us unload our gear and brought it onto the boat unbeknownst to them I have MS and just that one act helps me conserve my energy and strength to actually fish. The fish were not as cooperative as hoped for absolutely nothing anyone can do some large ones came over the rail but stripers are finnicky. After a while of jigging my arms became fatigued a mate assisted me by putting on a better lighter jig that didn't need reeling so I could continue on. The captain put us on fish I appreciated how he made every effort to get us on fish but keep our lines in (that is not something you see often most will circumnavigate the globe to put you on a school of porgie just enough to say they had fish counts) and we were getting bites but no takers. The kitchen crew was amazing with hot food and over all Fish on or not this is the boat you want to be on. I drove 2.5 hours and paid for a hotel and I caught a peanut bunker...I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Great boat, great staff!, great captain. Took my 12 year old son on this boat because they were fishing for bluefish. I figured since this was his first time fishing on a party boat, he would have a better chance of hooking up, then if we went for fluke. There's not much to catching blues, other than the great fight they put up. I gave away the six we caught. The guy that takes your money, Bucky, (I think?) acted like he was doing us a big favor. He was miserable. Not a good way to start off the day. The rod holders on this boat are bottomless sections of metal pipe. Your reel is what stops your pole from slipping down. So your reel is sitting on the sharp edge of a metal pipe. That's great if you have a cheap piece of crap reel like the ones they rent. Not so great if you don't want to scratch and chip the finish on your own reel. The mate was okay. He had his hands full, because the boat was full of googans. That's not the boats fault. But it made for a long day of constant tangled lines. Then some obese buffoon with a NY accent almost got assaulted, when he tried to give my son some attitude. I don't go out for a day of fishing with the desire to punch someone in the mouth. But it almost happened on this boat. Never happened on any other trips on the Captain Cal. Not even close. I wouldn't get back on this boat if they paid me. read more

I attending Royal Miss Belmar whale watching tour along with teenagers. My nephew was asked to help one of the crew get something on board and for his help, they gave him a great quality t-shirt. He was thrilled. They are a wonderful crew that is very flexible and accommodating. Coming from NYC, we missed the boat the first time and had to reschedule 2 more times after that due to weather. They were so nice and understanding. Boat is spotless, be careful as the top of the boat is not covered, be sure to bring your sunscreen. Water can be rough and the boat really rocks when the boat is not moving. Even with Dramamine, all three kids felt sick. A good variety of food and beverages are available on board for purchase and you are also allowed to bring your own. Only negative thing I can say was the boat was much more crowded than I felt comfortable considering Covid. NJ Covid rules are way more relaxed than in NYC. I also think they could have went over some more safety things like where life jackets are located. With those few things said. This is a beautiful day on the water looking at the amazing marine life. The crew cares about them and keep their distance and even fished a huge mylar balloon out of the water. read more

This past weekend, September 18th, my family and I did a whale watching tour on Miss Belmar. We have lived here for 20 years and never done it, so we figured let's give it a try before summer ends. I didn't know what to expect, because my parents did it in Montauk many years ago and didn't see any whales. When we got on the boat it was a very welcoming environment and very clean and organized. When we got on the water, it was clearly beautiful surroundings but the commentator did a great job of narrating the ride! It wasn't long before we saw a huge 35 foot whale right in front of our shore!!! We got to see this whale about 20 times!!! Our tour was being narrated by an extremely informative woman who told us exactly where to look, and made it so easy to follow. We learned a lot from her about whales and their patterns near our beaches. It was extremely weird to see a huge whale right where we go to the beach in the summer, BUT IT WAS SO COOL. I absolutely recommend this tour to anyone interested or looking for a great day out. They go until October and it's so worth it! We took a Whale Watching trip on May 22nd, 2022. I figured we would see dolphins, but was skeptical about a whale encounter. Boy, was I wrong! We were about 3 miles off the coast of Sandy Hook National Recreational Area, and MY GOODNESS! We encountered several humpback whales, playfully breeching and twisting all the way out of the ocean! We also saw several flukes come out of the water! And, we saw pods of dolphins as well! The staff in the office and on the boat were wonderful- very accommodating and kind. Any of them, from staff at the dock to the captain were willing and able to answer any questions their guests would pose! The captain even came out and sat with guests to chit-chat! Most impressive, though, was the Naturalist from Rutgers University Marine Biology who narrated our excursion. She described the local marine life, gave interesting information about the whales, and even taught us how each whale can be identified by the marking on the flukes! I am so happy I had my son with me- what a fantastic, active learning experience! We are waiting with joyful anticipation for Spring to arrive so that we can take another trip. read more

Fishing is my passion. Walking the surf hunting striped bass or just wetting a line. Our Miss Belmar Princess Family Fishing Trip was perfect - could not have better. Well, perhaps the legal size fluke could have been more cooperative. But it was fishing. Lots of small fluke, sea robins and skate. We were grandma and grandpa, daughter and son-in-law, 14 yo boy, 12 yo girl and 8 yo boy (our grandchildren). It was the first time I could fish myself, show how to fish and talk fish with my kids & grand kids without having to fix tangled lines, backlashes, unhook fish or net fish. The mates did all that. Quickly, with a smile and friendly talk. All 7 of us landed fish and enjoyed a great family outing at a good price. With all the equipment included plus a hotdog and drink. Miss Belmar Princess has the family fishing night formula nailed. With or without kids give it a try. You won't have to worry about fighting for space at the rail with people trying to fill their freezer because this trip attracts anglers looking for a fun family style trip. I've been living in the "Garden State" for almost 40 years now and the Miss Belmar has been my preference for most of the time I go deep sea fishing. The crew is friendly and helpful all the time. Whether it's setting up your rig or removing your hook from a feisty catch, they are up front and center. The vessel is clean and well kept with both gender heads at the rear. You don't need to bring anything but yourself as they offer tackle, rigs and a short order cook in the galley offering grilled burgers, hot dogs, chips and fountain drinks. Whether you do a half day or longer the experience is well worth the money. The scenery out of the Manasquan inlet and traveling North or South the NJ coast is exquisite. If there are fish out there the Captain will find them with up to date technology or just sea farers savvy. Every trip has a pool and money is made for the largest fish. Cleaning service is offered, as well, so you'll have fresh fillets to take home and cook. Bring the kids, they'll have a ball. read more

I've written in about the Miss Belmar a few other times for a Yelp review. Nothing has changed. I've been on many party boats in over 60 years of fishing, and I know what separates the men from the boys. When it comes to fishing boats, It's the crew. The captain will put you on fish, whether you can do the simple task to get them on the line and reel them in......or not. But that's the point. People don't go on a party boat to catch fish to eat, they could buy fish cheaper at the grocery store. People go on a party boat with their kids or good friends because it's fun to go out and be together for few hours. Realistically, you'll probably pay more for two bags of groceries than a day on the Miss Belmar. Truth be told: Stephanie runs the galley and get you set up with whatever you need and, the mates (especially the nasty little old guy) will take care of the rest. They can put you on fish....BUT...it's not as simple as just reeling them in. It's what makes it a day of fishing. BIll read more

I have had the pleasure of going fishing on Miss Belmar Princess many times. The mates are always helpful and attentive towards the anglers needs. They clean the fish for us and if you ask they will take care of your tackle.The princess is usually the first boat to arrive at the destination, in fact I have only once seen a boat keep pace with her. My wife and I say it's worth the fee just for the boat ride even if you do not catch any fish, although fishing is usually good to very good. I had to take my grandson out twice before he landed his first catch. The first time the blues kept breaking his line and then the second time we caught 35-40 mackerel between us and now my grandson is hooked. Hope the weather gets better for a chance at some strippers. Allen Shinn has captained the ship for many years and is a great fisherman.There are great stories to every trip. I know people who will not go fishing on a party boat for this or that reason, so they miss all the fun. read more

I go every year, the crew is great,lots of fun , caught a lot of fish and they cleaned all the fish i caught. The boat is made for fishing and that what the crew does best fish. The snacks on board are OK , but bring your own, there is plenty of room to carry on a cooler with cool drinks and sandwiches. The boat rides well , it is big enough not to get sea sickness, for me anyway. The Captain really looks for fish and tells you when to drop your hooks. The crew Taught me how to cast with there rental rod and my reel got tangled , the crew came quickly and untangle it for me. It must have happened to me 6 times, until I got the hang of it, and every time they came and untangled my reel with a smile. I had a great day on board with my Son- in- Law and our friends that joined in the fun with us, many memories that are treasured in my heart forever I am so happy I went and I will go again GOD willing, it was only one day on board but the memory last for ever. . read more

Me and the boys had a really great trip out on the Miss Belmar Princess. The only suggestion that I would have for the staff is possibly providing bait slices that are a bit longer because for our trip this summer the bait that was provided and even the "special bait" that I purchased was quite tiny and as a result, we all caught tiny fish. I did catch one rather large Fluke with one of the regular-sized bait pieces. I honestly feel that if we had more bait of that size that we would have caught larger fish. At least that has been what I have experienced in my 50 years of fishing experience. If I want to catch small fish I use small hooks and small bait. If I wanted to catch large fish I would use large hooks and larger bait. We certainly had the large hooks but were putting short bait on large hooks and I felt that played a part in the fish that we were catching. Other than that, the Captain and the crew were all friendly, and helpful. Thanks for a fun trip! read more

Back in the summer of 2022 my husband and I along with another couple went whale watching on the Belmar Princess out of New Jersey. It was one if the most fascinating experiences of our lives. We were able to catch a pod of whales. The crew was spectacular, the speaker kept us informed about location and educated us about the species. The captain kept circling and actually kept us out there an extra hour, no charge, to take in the whole experience. He actually waited til the whales moved on to head back. We enjoyed it so much, for Christmas this year I bought the same experience for my family of 8. Can't wait for the warmer weather and another great experience. There was another boat out there based out of NYC that left as soon as the sighting took place, didn't make his customers enjoy the whole experience. Was worried about time I guess. Went on my first boat fishing trip with my father on May 6th. Had amazing time, the captain and the mates were great and very helpful. Before father and I got aboard, one of the mates greeted us and also showed us what's best to use to catch a striper or a blue fish. Even though it was a bad fishing day for all fisherman that day, the quality of service and experience aboard was amazing. The winds and waves wouldn't allows us catch some fish, however the mates were very considerate and when they got a fish on a hook they called me up to reel it in to allow me experience what's it's like to fish off the boat. So I can say I caught a blue fish and a striper! I'm happy they help their passengers out with great experience. Overall Miss Belmar Princess is a great boat and has a great crew. Don't hesitate to choose this boat, I'm sure you'll have fun. I sure did and definitely will be back! read more
