Great sea fishing experience! It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or pro, alone or with a group, you're gonna have a great time with the Atlantic Star crew. As we arrive at the shore, the captain, Captain Tom, spotted us from afar and gave us a very welcoming greeting. He took pictures for us in front of the ship and tells us everything we need to know about the trip. The crew was amazing and very attentive. The weather was a little chilly today so Patrick, the superstar crew member, very kindly offered his spare hoodies to my friends who are freezing. We didn't catch any strip bass today, but we did manage to catch many blue fish. They are huge and really quite delicious. Ah yes! So once you have a fish on hook, the crew will help you pull it out of the water, and at the end fillet them for you. The fishing experience was really easy and relaxing because the crew is there to help with untangling the strings or helping us putting on baits. The bathroom was extremely clean and the indoor space is dry and comfortable. I like the fact that they have a separate restroom for the ladies, it is very considerate. This is my 3rd time fishing with the Atlantic Star and I'll definitely come back with more friends. Capt Tom is a real gentleman and provided a great trip. His crew are very helpful, too. Very nice, clean, solid fishing boat. Obviously well-taken care of by people who are serious about their business. My son and I took the afternoon ride, which entails a 30 min sailing from the marina to the fishing grounds just around the Sandy Hook point. From there we fished about 6-10 different spots, Capt Tom constantly trying to put us on the fish. He definitely put in the effort for us to find quality flounder. The main catch was Sea Robins, a rather unattractive and weird looking thing that can be eaten, but many were tossed back. Second catches in terms of numbers were small dogfish / sharks, dozens of them landed and tossed back. Many short (smaller than legal sized) flounders landed and returned. I was lucky enough to catch the largest fish of the day, which one of the mates kindly filleted and bagged for me. Tackle rental is $5 and you will pay $3 if you break off your hook, sinker and leader rig. Overall it's about $65 / pp. Quite an entertainment bargain for five solid hours on the water. Advice: bring sunscreen and a cooler with drinks and grub. Highly recommended. Pay in cash on board. read more

When out on Sunday August the 11th I agree the boat was nice and clean the crew had a lot to be desired .I felt as though the captain was lazy he never took the boat outside of the Bay so he had a good pay day for doing nothing .60 persons on board only 9 fish were able to be kept. Amazing fishing charter. All the boats line up and stand outside to get passengers. I wouldn't go to any other charter but this one. It was my daughters first time out (she's 12) and first mate Patrick took care of me and my daughter. We were totally unprepared but they had it all. It was a great crowd of all ages. Capt. Tom took us around to many spots if we weren't catching anything. My daughter caught her first fluke. The boat and bathrooms were super clean and the staff was friendly and safe. Tip the crew in the beginning they deserve it. They will help you bait reel untangle bug spray sunblock you and filet your fish and even send you home with fish you didn't catch. Went out Fluke fishing today on the Atlantic Star. The fishing was kinda slow but my girlfriend and I still caught 5 Fluke each. One guy on the boat caught an 11 pounder. Capt. Tom is great and very friendly he keeps working to get everyone into some fish. The mates are also very friendly and very helpful to everyone. Fishing with them was a great experience and it is a good boat for families with kids. I would fish on the Atlantic Star again anytime. read more

Fished all the boats and all are good. The Atlantic star is the best for family and friends. Right from the start of every trip, i'v noticed the friendly interaction the Captain and crew members have with the kids and the people new to the boat. The crew is by far the best trained and most friendly. The captain, Tom Buban has over forty years experience on the ocean starting in the Coast Guard for 4 years. He then took over and ran the (Happy) party boat for 9 years, In 1987 he opened the Atlantic Star. I hear others say how clean the boat is and i agree. Some party boats can have really scary heads. I always feel safe on this boat and think my friends and family feel the same. The spring ushers in the striped bass and they sail two times a day at 8am-1230 and at 130-6pm at $42 with discounts for children and seniors. On about the third weekend of May, the captain takes off the anchor and drifts for fluke or summer flounder with the same hours and price. The bait is included and if you need a pole and a rig, he rents those for $5. The fall brings in the bottom fishing for Black fish, Porgies, black Sea Bass, and Ling. If they are swimming and chewing, this Captain will put you on the fish and the mates will fillet on the way in. The mates on the Atlantic Star make there living off of tips and i always feel they are worthy and deserving. On or about Columbus day, Captain Tom will switch to 3/4 day 730am-2pm at about $62 and soon after will fish for mainly Tuatog, (Black fish). After fishing on this boat for more than 15 years, i'm confident to recommend this boat to all those looking to put fish in your coolers and have a safe and good fishing trip read more

Fluke Fishing. We got into Dog Fish. Mate Cut my Fluke Rig 3 times. The 1st 2 times I got my Rig back with no Hook. 3RD time I said something to the guy. Tells me I cant use Double Fluke Hook. Tossed that one in water on me to. I would 1st ask who is using the hooks if they don't want them on boat. But NO just toss them in water on you. A mate that does that is Worthless read more
