Yeah, it's probably rare you get to hear the word "resplendent" unless you're watching a special about the Greek Isles on Travel Channel...but there it is, one of the most apt words for describing my experience at High Street Grill last week. The restaurant was fully staffed (including host and barista), and a few extra staff who looked like they were in "assisting mode". However, it was more like entering Olive Garden than anything else, where they weren't pre-occupied with personal conversations and you were interrupting - but they were simply WAITING FOR YOU to come in enjoy their food. Skyler was the first to greet me and she was courteous and conversational, but never overbearing on the trip from dais to my window-side table. On my way, I got a few Hellos and good mornings from the staff. - Not a single person seemed put out, although as I was seated, a crowd of businessmen and conventioneers entered right behind me and the wait staff was hit with a sudden rush. . My server, Samantha, immediately greeted me with pitchers of coffee and took my drink order. Then, I immediately hit the buffet. It featured two areas: one with 5 steamer trays, each double loaded with breakfast goodies: pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, bacon and sausage, and hash browns. I loaded up my plate with a sampling of everything and quickly gobbled it down with a milk chaser. Then, Sam got my refill as I went up for plate 2. I filled up again, avoiding only one thing: the biscuits, because they were a little hard. However...how do you cook biscuits for a buffet steamer table and keep them at the perfect consistency? All too often, they come out like bricks or sponges - and once a waiter at another famous buffet fixed this issue by resting them on damp napkins and they came out awful and soggy. These biscuits were still good - just not perfect. So, beyond that, everything was fantastic. I would've went up for a third plate, but I was completely satisfied, so. I drank another glass of milk and watched the crowd stirring about - they were animated - and most of the businesspeople knew every staff member by name - and conversations were homey and quaint... Resplendent. ...and the dark walnut accents to a plush and vibrant color scheme didn't hurt either - and it didn't make it stuffy either. It was both classy and comfortable in just the right way. I'm glad, however I'm not a regular guest there, because I could easily gain 15 pounds in a month's time. Still, I'll take my risks and make occasional return trips when I want filled up with breakfast buffet goodness.,

The charcuterie board looked like the bought a package from Pepperidge Farm and laid it out on a plate with plastic ramekins. Lobster bisque was so thick it seemed like a dip. My fish was cooked well done and the rice was toss crispy and tough it was inedible. My bet is it was left under a heat lamp for twenty minutes, letting the sauces dry out on the plate, while the pantry cook scrounged together a charcuterie board. I should say, all the bar food we saw looked great. Maybe this is just a place where they do more burgers, wings, and fish chips. I expected a more upscale experience but now a know it is just a nice pub fare.

The Chocolate Torte was too sweet and thick that I had to use a knife to cut it in order to eat it. Overall I was not impressed with the food. It had been years since my last visit, so I was excited to come back. One thing that caught us off guard was the ordering process. We bounced between inside and the patio a couple of times trying to figure out where to check in, get menus, and place an order. Eventually we learned that orders are placed at the bar rather than through traditional table service. Once we figured it out, everything went smoothly, but it wasn't immediately obvious. For drinks, we ordered a Green Tea Shot and a Green Tea Cocktail. Both were strong, well-made, and exactly what I'd expect from Union Café. Food was more hit-or-miss. Years ago, the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla was my go-to order. This version arrived hot, cheesy, and loaded with filling, but the chicken seemed very different from what I remembered. The texture reminded me of canned chicken, and it lacked the seasoning and flavor that made the older version memorable. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the quesadilla I came back hoping for. I also ordered the half Apple Orchard Salad. It looked great and included apples, feta, candied pecans, dried cranberries, and raspberry vinaigrette. The ingredients worked together fine, but I wouldn't personally pay $6 for the half or $12 for the full again. It felt overpriced for what it delivered. The standout item was the Loaded Tots. Crispy, hot, cheesy, topped with bacon and chipotle crema, and easily the best thing we ordered. No complaints there. Overall, Union Café still shines when it comes to atmosphere, drinks, patio seating, and community presence. I just wish the food had lived up to the memories that brought me back in the first place.
