I remember when this place used to be Easy Street - I was a regular before I moved in. Then this place switched to South Village - felt weird and took a long while to get used to. It was definitely not the same place. However, this place warmed up to me pretty quickly. It looked a lot different when it first opened, has theough a few changes with one being a Hallway to the sushi restaurant next door - Great sushi by the way!! My friend and I were equally impressed. We got the giant meatballs from South Village and 3 different types of sushi from next door. Quite the spread but all of it was good!! I come a lot here - for months I used to come every Sunday night get the wings and hummus. Whatever the old wing sauce was - it was sooo good. They have now switched to buffalo and to be honest other places make it better. Still try the hummus. It's delicious. So is the incredible meatball. Drinks here have always been really good. Quality. Pizza really goood - get the Hot Honey pepperoni. They also used to have one of the best calamari plates in the city - and I have Italian parents who ALWAYS order Calamari. So if you ever see it - get it. Small tv in the corner by the bar - enough to be seen, small enough not to kill the vibe but definitely don't come if your goal is to watch a game. Good experience here. Stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner, waited about 20 minutes for a table which was perfect because then you could just walk around German village while you were waiting. Our server was extremely friendly and had good suggestions on the menu. In terms of the food, the meatballs are amazing. I could have had an entire plate of them for dinner. I had the South Village Smashburger as well, which was OK (I would probably not order this again the next time I am there). The meat itself was a little bit overcooked and under-seasoned leading to it being a little bit dry. That being said, the fries were delicious. Really cool atmosphere on the inside, they actually share space with the sushi restaurant next-door so you can order from the sushi menu or from the restaurant menu. My husband had a gin based cocktail that tasted fantastic and I usually hate gin. My Schiller Stroll (bourbon, lavender, honey) was next level. Rich, flavorful. Loved the orchid in the icecube. Stopped into South Village Grille in German Village and it did not disappoint. The space is beautifully redone--a modern touch within a historic building that feels both fresh and inviting. I had the BIANCA pizza, and it was excellent. The pecorino cream, fresh garlic, and mix of mozzarella and provolone hit all the right notes--rich, balanced, and full of flavor. The petite salad on top added a fresh, crisp finish and it was dressed beautifully. Super delicious pizza overall. Service was super attentive and friendly and the vibe was relaxed yet elevated. Today I met some friend for brunch and this restaurant didn't let me down. so I knew I wanted to get the Beignets so I started off with just a breast sandwich, This had a fried egg, thick cut bacon, white cheddar cheese, with a rosemary aioli and served on a brioche bun. This sandwich was ok but I was saving myself for the Beignets, oh and yes I did eat on three they were really that good served very hot and fresh. The breakfast burger was also very good. It contained Wagyu beef, over medium egg, lettuce, tomato and onion, bacon. It was very foilling and could definitely share, the Béarnaise sauce was good, but I really didn't't think it was needed. Let me just say it upfront - South Village Grill slaps. For us old folk, that means it is impressive. We have been here before but we tried new dishes and so glad we did. The Hits Cheeseburger and Fries - Just look ar this picture. It is way at the bottom dang it next to our old reviews. Yelp, you are killing me. I digress. Crispy fries loaded with all the burger fixings, melted cheese, and what tasted like their special sauce drizzled throughout. It's messy, indulgent, and absolutely worth every calorie. Carbonara - Again the picture. This dish was a masterclass in simplicity done right. The pasta had that perfect al dente bite, and the sauce was silky without being heavy. You could taste the quality of the eggs and cheese, and they didn't go overboard with the pancetta - just enough to add that smoky saltiness that makes carbonara sing. But I would marry the pancetta. Burrata - Not sure if this is a recent addition to their menu but it absolutely rocks. The cheese was incredibly fresh and creamy, practically melting on the tongue. They've clearly sourced quality burrata, and the supporting elements were thoughtfully chosen to let the cheese be the star. The warm, crusty bread was perfect for scooping up every last bit. This dish alone is worth the trip. The pic may not tell the story but that's because we manhandled it. Mussels in Bloody Mary Broth - These mussels were great! The secret? The creative bloody mary broth, a brilliant twist - packed with those familiar flavors of tomato, celery, but elevated and refined. I was practically licking the bowl. We asked for plenty of bread for soaking up every drop of that incredible liquid gold. Tuscan Shrimp solid! Ask for extra shrimp. The Miss Veal Scallopini - Unfortunately, this is where the evening hit a snag. Disclaimer: We ate with Sicilans and they know their stuff. For a dish that should showcase the kitchen's finesse, it fell disappointingly flat. The veal was overcooked and tough - the opposite of what you want from such a delicate cut of meat. Final Thoughts Despite the veal hiccup, South Village Grill's kitchen clearly has talent - the pasta work was exceptional, and their creative takes on familiar favorites (those mussels!) show real innovation. The service was the bomb, we love her! She is attentive without being intrusive, and the overall experience was exactly what you want from a neighborhood gem. Spending more time in German Village lately, revisiting old haunts and hitting up new spots. This one was not on my radar at all before, but I heard it was good, and it gets great reviews. I was down here on Monday and their special that day is meatloaf, so I figured I'd try that. Probably the best meatloaf I've ever had. And that includes places that specialize in meatloaf. Little different than most, a little looser, excellent crust, amazing smoked tomato sauce. Excellent mashed potatoes, perfectly cooked green beans. Just the best upgrade of a classic meatloaf dinner. Didn't take things too far and overdo it. I almost moaned. Service was excellent. The place is a little fancy, and I felt a little out of place in my T-shirt, but I wasn't the only one dressed down, and the server certainly didn't make me feel that way. It's classy enough that you could have a business lunch or a date here. Lots of things on the menu. Slightly hopping at one on a weekday. A few parking spots nearby. How have I never been to South Village Grille before? I've passed it so many times, and today was finally the day. If truffle fries are on the menu, I'm ordering them no question. And these did not disappoint. Perfectly crispy, packed with flavor, and paired with the aioli; so good! I'd go back just for that. The shrimp tempura roll (not pictured because I was starving) was another standout. The addition of cilantro and jalapeño really elevated the flavors and made it memorable. The Brussels sprouts were just okay; a bit undercooked but the flavor balance was still solid. As for the burrata beet salad, it was described as beet purée, garlic arugula, diced apples, balsamic reduction, and crispy prosciutto. While it was nice to try something different, I now know I prefer whole beets in my salad, so I wouldn't order it again. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so it does get pretty loud, but the ambiance is warm and inviting. Overall, a great spot I'm glad I finally stopped in! Can't wait to go back and try a few more things. UPDATE I returned the very next afternoon to try more things. I again ordered the truffle fries but this time I also ordered a simple side salad and the Prime Rib Philly. It was described as Sliced ribeye / Pickled jalapeños / Bell peppers / Caramelized onion / House cheese dip / Horseradish cream sauce. I was unable to identify any jalapeño nor honestly was the caramelized onion very prominent, but the sandwich was still fantastic; full of flavor and tender. I'm a huge fan of horseradish so initially I was disappointed the flavor wasn't more forward but I'm sure it was to not overwhelm the experience. I'd order this sandwich again! I LOVE this spot!! It's the perfect vibe of chill yet sophisticated! It really suits so many tastebuds too. You can do American, pizza, apps or sushi!! It really has it all. This is my favorite spot to pop in for HH and an app or even for dinner. I started coming here about a year ago and now I go minimum once a month due to its great and welcoming atmosphere! They have HH all week long with apps, wine, cocktails and even from the sushi pop up next door. Their green goddess hummus is probably my favorite hummus in town (only problem with it is I want more!!!) it's deliciously healthy and hearty! I also am a fan favorite of the sushi from the pop up next door. You can sit either side of the restaurant but my personal fav is SVG side at the bar. Grew up in Columbus but moved away in my early 20s, so had never really spent much time in German Village. Been visiting mom a lot lately so am enjoying getting to know the city again. Lots of hip places these days, like Soth Village Grille. On the hunt for a really good Burger, I searched reviews here and online. I settled on Soth Village because it wasn't too far and they sold me on the House Burger with its short rib grind, pepper jam, and brioche bun. Salivating, I called my order in and jumped in my car to go pick it up. It was ready before I got there. Upon walking in, I was reminded of NYC dining (where I live now). The place is dimly lit, nicely appointed, and quite small. The prices are akin to NYC too, as my Burger was $19. Or $21 since I got the truffle fries. The Burger was cooked just right and rightly sized. It was tender and moist and the toppings were crisp and fresh, the bun soft and light and toasty--great contrast of textures. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the flavor, which to me was bland. The meat was unseasoned and I didn't taste the pepper jam. The fries were decent but not quite crispy, but the truffle mayo hit the spot. I'm split between a 3 and a 4 here because I was really looking for a great Burger and that first bite left me unsatisfied on the flavor front. Was excited to try this spot since Stepoutcolumbus made it seem so appealing on IG but unfortunately our treatment was quite sterile. The staff said hello at the door but then just looked at me. Normally greeters ask, " how are you, do you have reservations?" or "how many are dining today?" The treatment was the same from our server, even when we asked for feedback about menu items. We had the cheesesteak sandwich and fries (the fries were great), California roll which was good, and the blackened chicken (which wasn't blackened at all and yet was the driest chicken breast I've had in years). We only could find place at the bar. The menu to me is very confusing. They have sushi, wings. Pizza and pasta. It's not authentically dedicated to a particularly specific cuisine. We started off with Calamari which was great. We also tried one of their rolls, nothing outstanding or disappointing it was just fine. For mains we tried the pizza, shrooms for all vegetarian pizza and Ohio pepperoni. Both were too oil. There was literally oil dripping off of them. The crust was too hard. Toppings were good but the oil was just off putting we tried to dab slices with tissues but it was just too much. I dined in this week and I have to say the chicken wrap is so good! Greg suggested I get it with pepper jack cheese and the truffle fries and I swear I couldn't have gotten a better recommendation. Later in the dinner, the second round took just as long. So the service was somewhat slow, but everyone was very friendly and professional. Our table split orders between sushi and menu food. All of it was very good. We started with the potstickers that were full of meat and cooked perfectly. The Tuna Tartare was made with a spicy tuna mixture on top of rice and garnished beautifully. I just wish is was chunks of tuna instead of the pasty mixture, but I would order again. The sushi was fresh and we especially loved the Narutomaki roll wrapped in cucumber instead of rice. You could taste every fish in its glory with just the cucumber and simple sauce. My sister had the Wedge salad and looked blissful as she devoured every last crumb. The Simple Salad with Salmon also very good. We did splurge on calories and ordered the Carbonara, and were happy we did. It was a bowl of rich goodness! They do like their wispy garnish of beet, carrot, and daikon as seen in every picture! This place has it all: a diverse variety of food, great drinks, friendly service and a great atmosphere. Our server was so sweet and attentive and let my girlfriend and I catch up and keep dinner at our pace. We started with the charcuterie and a bottle of wine.
