    Meatballs!!

I remember when this place used to be Easy Street - I was a regular before I moved in. Then this place switched to South Village - felt weird and took a long while to get used to. It was definitely not the same place. However, this place warmed up to me pretty quickly. It looked a lot different when it first opened, has theough a few changes with one being a Hallway to the sushi restaurant next door - Great sushi by the way!! My friend and I were equally impressed. We got the giant meatballs from South Village and 3 different types of sushi from next door. Quite the spread but all of it was good!! I come a lot here - for months I used to come every Sunday night get the wings and hummus. Whatever the old wing sauce was - it was sooo good. They have now switched to buffalo and to be honest other places make it better. Still try the hummus. It's delicious. So is the incredible meatball. Drinks here have always been really good. Quality. Pizza really goood - get the Hot Honey pepperoni. They also used to have one of the best calamari plates in the city - and I have Italian parents who ALWAYS order Calamari. So if you ever see it - get it. Small tv in the corner by the bar - enough to be seen, small enough not to kill the vibe but definitely don't come if your goal is to watch a game. This past time I went I had the Braised short rib, with a Martini and the cookie with ice cream for dessert. I hardly ever get dessert but some broad yelled at me for getting stuck in the great snowmageddon snow on the way here so cookie it was!

This is my new favorite place in Columbus. The food is excellent. So yummy and can't wait to try more on the menu. Service was slow but it was good. Very inviting and friendly all around. I would describe the atmosphere as a classy casual vibe. Absolutely recommend the meatballs and the Korean Glazed Chicken, and you have to try the We enjoyed the: -MEATBALLS $15 (Pomodoro / Ciabatta / Pecorino) -FRIED CHICKEN $17 (Korean Glazed / Candied Jalapeño / Pickled Veggies / Spicy Mayo) -HOUSE BURGER $21 (Wagyu / Special Sauce / Cheddar / Lto) -GOOEY BUTTER CAKE $12 (Served Warm / Vanilla Ice Cream / Fresh Berries) You got to finish off your meal with that Gooey Butter Cake. It was so good. I definitely recommend and will continue to come back.

Good experience here. Stopped in on a Wednesday night for dinner, waited about 20 minutes for a table which was perfect because then you could just walk around German village while you were waiting. Our server was extremely friendly and had good suggestions on the menu. In terms of the food, the meatballs are amazing. I could have had an entire plate of them for dinner. I had the South Village Smashburger as well, which was OK (I would probably not order this again the next time I am there). The meat itself was a little bit overcooked and under-seasoned leading to it being a little bit dry. That being said, the fries were delicious. Really cool atmosphere on the inside, they actually share space with the sushi restaurant next-door so you can order from the sushi menu or from the restaurant menu. Overall, good experience here and would come back.

Very quaint restaurant located in the German Village. Serving many different types of food. Variety of cocktails and liquor available to drink. German sodas. Very elegant ambiance. Service is great with attentive waiters and hosts. Steak and lobster sauce on potatoes and asparagus was delightful. I loved the Butternut Squash salad.

We have a lot of great restaurants in Buffalo, but South Village Grille rivals the best of them. The drinks might even be better. My husband had a gin based cocktail that tasted fantastic and I usually hate gin. My Schiller Stroll (bourbon, lavender, honey) was next level. Rich, flavorful. Loved the orchid in the icecube. The calamari is big and juicy. My steak frites were excellent. They also offer sushi, but I didn't try it. Tempted by a couple rolls, but they weren't quite what I had in mind. Service is excellent. The restaurant is small but cozy.

Stopped into South Village Grille in German Village and it did not disappoint. The space is beautifully redone--a modern touch within a historic building that feels both fresh and inviting. I had the BIANCA pizza, and it was excellent. The pecorino cream, fresh garlic, and mix of mozzarella and provolone hit all the right notes--rich, balanced, and full of flavor. The petite salad on top added a fresh, crisp finish and it was dressed beautifully. Super delicious pizza overall. Service was super attentive and friendly and the vibe was relaxed yet elevated. A great spot for date night or a laid-back dinner with friends. We came for a business meeting during lunch. Definitely worth a return trip with the hubby!

Today I met some friend for brunch and this restaurant didn't let me down. so I knew I wanted to get the Beignets so I started off with just a breast sandwich, This had a fried egg, thick cut bacon, white cheddar cheese, with a rosemary aioli and served on a brioche bun. This sandwich was ok but I was saving myself for the Beignets, oh and yes I did eat on three they were really that good served very hot and fresh. The breakfast burger was also very good. It contained Wagyu beef, over medium egg, lettuce, tomato and onion, bacon. It was very foilling and could definitely share, the Béarnaise sauce was good, but I really didn't't think it was needed. Overall great place for brunch and they didn't rush us to turn the table, another great place to try.

Mid :/ so sad to say that my first brunch at South Village Grille wasn't too great. My biggest critique is that everything on my plate besides my potatoes were the same temperature. Cold eggs, cold steak, and cold salad...... taste wise the food was okay. My potatoes were a bit salty and the eggs could've used some pepper for sure. I will not be returning for brunch here and will stick to other brunch spots that always deliver.

South Village Grill gave us a majestic pizza that looked like it came straight out of an oven in Naples! It tasted as good as it looked ....it was a showstopper. My vote for best pizza in Columbus. I don't think my description could do it justice, but here goes. The crust had great chew and texture. The bake on it was perfect and it had nice air bubbles. The sauce was slightly sweet and they used lots of creamy buffalo mozzarella which really kicked it up a notch. The pepperoni was crispy and had great char. I suggest ordering two pizzas. 1. because they are not huge and serve two people max. 2. you will want more after you finish the first one.

We managed to slip in on the Eve of NYE. No small task. I think they are just crowded every night they are open. Monday is $1 oysters. Now that's a sweet promotion (if you like that sort of thing). Our four top ordered a dozen. They were very nice sized, meaty, and came with two excellent dips. I'll come back just for that promotion! Cocktails are well prepared and inventive. I opted for a rye OF. It was excellent. I actually ordered two. Service was impeccable. So nice to see. Menu is tight. Our four top had two dinners, fish sandwich, and a pizza. Each were excellent. You can't go wrong. Great experience all around. We will surely return. (Just don't call me Shirley).

Let me just say it upfront - South Village Grill slaps. For us old folk, that means it is impressive. We have been here before but we tried new dishes and so glad we did. The Hits Cheeseburger and Fries - Just look ar this picture. It is way at the bottom dang it next to our old reviews. Yelp, you are killing me. I digress. Crispy fries loaded with all the burger fixings, melted cheese, and what tasted like their special sauce drizzled throughout. It's messy, indulgent, and absolutely worth every calorie. Carbonara - Again the picture. This dish was a masterclass in simplicity done right. The pasta had that perfect al dente bite, and the sauce was silky without being heavy. You could taste the quality of the eggs and cheese, and they didn't go overboard with the pancetta - just enough to add that smoky saltiness that makes carbonara sing. But I would marry the pancetta. Burrata - Not sure if this is a recent addition to their menu but it absolutely rocks. The cheese was incredibly fresh and creamy, practically melting on the tongue. They've clearly sourced quality burrata, and the supporting elements were thoughtfully chosen to let the cheese be the star. The warm, crusty bread was perfect for scooping up every last bit. This dish alone is worth the trip. The pic may not tell the story but that's because we manhandled it. Mussels in Bloody Mary Broth - These mussels were great! The secret? The creative bloody mary broth, a brilliant twist - packed with those familiar flavors of tomato, celery, but elevated and refined. I was practically licking the bowl. We asked for plenty of bread for soaking up every drop of that incredible liquid gold. Tuscan Shrimp solid! Ask for extra shrimp. The Miss Veal Scallopini - Unfortunately, this is where the evening hit a snag. Disclaimer: We ate with Sicilans and they know their stuff. For a dish that should showcase the kitchen's finesse, it fell disappointingly flat. The veal was overcooked and tough - the opposite of what you want from such a delicate cut of meat. Final Thoughts Despite the veal hiccup, South Village Grill's kitchen clearly has talent - the pasta work was exceptional, and their creative takes on familiar favorites (those mussels!) show real innovation. The service was the bomb, we love her! She is attentive without being intrusive, and the overall experience was exactly what you want from a neighborhood gem. Recommended: Carbonara, Cheeseburger Fries, Mussels, Burrata Skip: Veal Scallopini

This is what I miss in America; Service!!! And Southern Grill gave me what I want We are here in Ohio for hunting. (I don't like hunting btw) And we were looking for nice and cosy, good quality place! We went to Columbus...And I searched by Yelp. We decided to try Southern Grill! OMG! I wish we are close and I can come here every other day! This is Istanbul style place and service. How enjoyed with the ambience, service and the meals! Our server Sandra was amazing lady who make us comfortable and relax with her attitude and have full knowledge of the menu... And Moly was perfect! She made our drinks which was perfect. I wish I try everything at the menu. All looks very yummy! I don't know when we came Ohio again but I am sure I come back and try your food again. And of course they made me happy when they bring an other margarita for honoring! Thank you dears I appreciated!

Oh man... someone put these were the best beignets in the country they need to get out more. These were terrible. They are French beignets, not the version from New Orleans. But all of mine were raw on the inside. This one pictured was the most cooked out of all of them. Overall such a disappointment.

My recent birthday…read moredinner at Sidebar Columbus fell squarely -- and triumphantly -- into the latter category. From the moment we arrived, the service set the tone for what would become an unforgettable dining experience. Our server, Lacey delivered hospitality with the kind of effortless grace that can't be taught. She anticipated needs before they were spoken, guided us through the menu with confidence, and maintained a warmth that made our table feel like the only one in the room. Wine & Cocktails: A Study in Balance and Craft The wine selection was superb -- thoughtfully curated, expressive, and perfectly paired with the richness of the evening's dishes. The cocktails were equally impressive, crafted with precision and a clear respect for balance. Each sip felt intentional, layered, and celebratory. The Paella: A Showstopper But the true star of the night was the paella -- a dish so masterfully executed it deserves its own ovation. The rice was tender yet structured, infused with deep saffron warmth and kissed with just enough socarrat to make any purist smile. The seafood was impeccably fresh, each component cooked to its ideal texture. It was the kind of paella that silences a table, not out of politeness, but out of reverence. When the chef personally came out to greet us, it only reinforced what the dish had already made clear: this is a kitchen led by someone who cooks with both technique and heart. A Birthday Elevated My husband orchestrated the evening beautifully, and Sidebar rose to meet the moment with finesse. Our guests were genuinely impressed -- not just by the food, but by the seamless choreography of service, ambiance, and attention to detail. It felt less like a dinner and more like a curated celebration Final Thoughts Sidebar Columbus delivers the rare combination of exceptional cuisine, polished service, and heartfelt hospitality. The paella alone is worth crossing the city for, but the entire experience -- from Laceys attentive care to the chef's personal touch -- transforms a simple night out into something memorable. For anyone seeking a dining experience that feels both elevated and warmly personal, Sidebar stands confidently at the top.

Menu is a slightly elevated bar food selection coupled with a nice selection of beers and cocktails. Prices seemed to be competitive with other similar venues. We all passed on apps and went straight to the mains. Most ordered a sandwich or burger while I ordered the lobster Mac & cheese. My dinner was delicious. A rich and cheesy baked concoction with a few lumps of lobster meat mixed in and flavoring the entire dish. All the guests cleaned their plates with relish. Simple platings with no special attention given to plate presentation. The dinners came out staggered rather than all at once. We weren't rushed but were attentively served. We we famished since it was 8:30 p.m. The did accommodation us with a lower table since on member of the party was elderly and in a wheelchair, with the statement that "this is a bar more than a restaurant". I would thereby say they are not truly ADA accessible oe friendly as one would hope. But as I said we had made the reservation and figured we'd make the best of it. Some of our appetizers got lost and were so late they took them off the bill. Some of our appetizers arrived cool or cold upon arrival, but we were so hungry we ate them. Plus it wasn't like anyone came back to check on us, or ask how was everything or refills. It wasn't until I went back to the bar and asked for refills that we were even visited again. I know our server was also seeming to be the bartender too. I don't think we'll be back and never with any handicapped friends who can't sit at a high top table. I would say the hopes were high but the experience was almost a total dud. Those who got the chicken Alfredo liked it and it was hot. After spending over $220 for the 7 people I paid for with only 1 alcoholic beverage and mostly burgers and appetizers. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere.

She was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the evening. She even apologized for the long delays between several of the courses, so this review is not a reflection of her service. We were seated at 8:15 p.m. for the six-course tasting menu. The portions were extremely small--many were only one or two bites--and the waits between the early courses felt excessive. Although the restaurant had only about four occupied tables out of more than twenty, the pacing was surprisingly slow. The main course wasn't served until 9:52 p.m., just minutes before the restaurant's 10:00 p.m. closing time. After that, the final two courses arrived in quick succession, making the ending of the meal feel rushed. The food itself was simply okay. While it was well presented, none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable, and the beef course--the one we were most looking forward to--was served lukewarm, which was very disappointing. One thing that surprised us was that during our entire visit, we never saw a front-of-house manager or a kitchen manager checking on guests. Even after our server apologized for the delays, no member of management stopped by our table. At this price point, I would expect management to be actively engaged in ensuring guests are having an exceptional experience. We don't mind paying $115 per person for a fine dining tasting menu when the food and experience justify the price. Unfortunately, between the inconsistent pacing, very small portions, lukewarm entrée, and flavors that were merely average, this experience did not meet those expectations. The service from our server was the highlight of the evening, but overall, we left disappointed and feeling that the experience did not provide the value we expected.
