I took my daughter and her beau, To Mission BBQ, you know. On Beltline Ave, we did go, In Grand Rapids, MI, for a show. We each got two meats, oh what a treat! Lean brisket for all, pulled pork for the kids, And smoked sausage for dad, quite the feat. But the brisket was dry, though still a hit, We ordered it lean, but drier than fit. My daughter loved the pulled pork, oh yes, Her boyfriend's mac and cheese, he didn't bless. The sausage was good, fresh off the grill, But cold, it grew chewy, lost its thrill. I had baked beans with brisket, divine, My daughter's fries, she did decline. Corn casserole cold, but tasty still, The price was decent, fit the bill. The restaurant was clean, a sight to see, The staff was friendly, as friendly could be. But the busser, oh my, too eager to please, Kept asking to clear, more than at ease. All in all, not sure I'll return, But it wasn't a loss, a lesson learned. Mission BBQ, a mixed review, Some hits, some misses, but worth a view.

Mission BBQ catered a wedding reception this past weekend for our family. From our first reaction with their people it was a very positive experience. The food tasting was fun and delicious, and the selections were a bit challenging as they were all very tasty. They came out to our home for a sight visit and were very polite and thorough. The day of the event they were on time, dressed appropriately and the presentation was beautiful. They were so accommodating as we ran a bit late. The food received rave reviews from our 250 guests. After our event they helped clean up and packaged up the extra! This is not my first experience as we've had them do corporate events. These folks come highly recommended, they are consistently good at what they do!!

Our family has dined here several times now and it is quickly becoming our go to barbecue spot with great service and great prices. You can't go wrong . I love the variety of barbecue sauces that are out at the tables for you to enjoy . Though this is a counter-service BBQ joint, the service is notably good. Not just average, or meh, or something you wouldn't even notice. They actually seem to care. Each team member is kind, attentive, and willing to help you. Even after you have ordered your food and brought it out to your table, without being annoying, they casually interact with you to ensure you have everything you need, that your order is right, and offer to help in any way. A few staff members spend time getting to know you and have a great sense of humor. You have been there several times with a group of 10 or more, and the order is always right. Another reason for such a strong service score is that Mission BBQ offers free sandwiches to all active-duty service members and veterans. You can order by carry-out, call ahead, or use curbside pick-up. Which we think is most admirable. We love supporting locations that give back to the community. It is also worth noting that Forbes listed Mission BBQ as #7 in their 2025 list of best customer service:

3 meat combo (chicken, jalapeño/cheese sausage, and brisket) 2 sides of mac/cheese, green beans, cole slaw, and corn bread

Honestly, for a chain, we left pretty impressed. We were in the area and wanted some quick but not actual fast food. The line moves quickly and the staff was very friendly. Our large tray a food was sitting on the counter for me before I even finished filling my drink. We ordered the meat combo with 3 meats and a bunch of sides. We ordered the jalapeño/cheese sausage, chicken, and brisket. Our sides were 2 orders of mac/cheese, green beans, and coleslaw. The variety of sauces on each table make it fun to try different things! The brisket was probably our least favorite of the 3 meats but we still enjoyed it. The sides were all delicious and we loved that the mac/cheese and coleslaw were not overly runny. We were also given a piece of corn bread which was very good. The dining room was very clean and they had employees constantly cleaning throughout our meal. As parents with a young child, we also liked that they had the nicer high chairs rather than the old wooden ones! We will definitely be back.

This is the Smoked cheese burger with fresh fries and coleslaw. I loved it all

Awesome burger and fries! I had the smoked cheese burger with the fresh fries. It was delicious! The coleslaw was amazing as well!Large portions and reasonably priced! It is a cafeteria style service. Which I enjoy! Its decor is military and public service memorabilia. With picnic style tables and booths. I will be back to try the bbq! Excellent experience! Also soft drinks only. I highly recommend Mission BBQ.

All of the food that I've had here is excellent-I've gotten takeout, and my work has gotten "catered" lunch from here a few times. The service is okay, and the setup is to order at the counter when you come in, which is fine. But I will say that the food is REALLLLLLY expensive for what you're getting as a whole.

Smoked turkey. Green beans. Mashed potatoes and corn bread.

Just had to do another review. As always the smoked turkey is amazing. Be sure u get the white sauce to put on the turkey. The green beans bring back a memory of home (I'm from Tennessee). I got the coleslaw this time and I wasn't a huge fan. Love that they have sweet tea. I go back over and over just for the turkey.

    Baked beans and cornbread.

This place is set in the classic bbq and Five Guys type style of walk in order and pay the sit and wait for your name to be called. The atmosphere from there is set in homage to First Responders and the Military. I ordered the the 3 meat platter ($16), plus the XXL Combo ($5). I got Brisket, Pulled Pork, and jalapeno and cheese Sausage. All were very good and tender. Nothing was dry. It also came with cornbread that was yummy. For the XXl combo I got baked beans and the monthly special Sweet baked potato with cinnamon butter and lastly a Lemonade. The sides were very good, most bbq place either have good meat or good sides. It's really nice to find a place with both. The lemonade was excellent. My only negative was the bbq sauce was only okay. They all tasted similar and very thin. The person I was with got Brisket, Pulled Pork, and Turkey. She really liked it. She loved the cornbread so much she got 2 more pieces. She also got a blueberry cobbler that she said was excellent. The counter service was very good. Very friendly and did a good job. Overall a 4 1/2 star review. Excellent bbq, but still probably only #4 in the Area, maybe #3. Since I need to round it'll get a 4. Would I return? Yes I would!

Food was good for a chain restaurant. They call your name for service. They got plenty of photos for ambience. I enjoyed it and I think you would too. Now there's other BBQ places around this location that will "smoke" this place but it happens to be Monday and like most dedicated BBQ joints they're closed on Mondays.

3 meat sampler with salmon, 3 bone baby back ribs and brisket. Greens and green beans and cornbread.

Hear ye, hear ye! Gather round, good townsfolk, and lend thine ears to this most noble proclamation…read moreof feasting and fare! Upon the noontide hour of the twenty-sixth day of April, in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Five, did we, a merry assembly of kin and companion, venture forth to City Barbecue, nestled upon the thoroughfare of 28th Street in the bustling township of Kentwood. With hearty expectation did I partake of the Sampler Platter, wherein rested the venerable pastrami and brisket--each tender and flavorful, a feast most worthy of admiration. To accompany these fine meats, the baked beans, rich and savory, did shine as a beacon of excellence amidst Michigan's smoky halls of barbecue. Yet alas! The green beans, woeful in their mushiness and devoid of vibrance, did fall short of their noble duty. My fair daughter did receive the More Cowbell sandwich, which by her esteemed judgment was most agreeable to the palate. Yet, the coleslaw, bland and uninspired, suffered the cruel fate of neglect upon the plate. Her gallant suitor did brave the Two-Meat Sampler, electing to double upon the pulled pork--a wise choice, for its succulence did earn his highest praise. Yet the macaroni and cheese, though pleasant in taste, did find itself burdened by pasta that hath been overcooked beyond its prime. Lo, a most fortuitous discovery! For in this hall of smoked delicacies did we chance upon Diet Dr Pepper, a rare and cherished libation oft absent from the public houses of our land. Thirsts were slaked, spirits lifted! As the feast drew to its end, my daughter did indulge in the banana pudding, a confection of unparalleled delight, which earned her highest commendation. And though the meal, in temperature, lacked the warmth that hearts desired, its flavors yet prevailed, ensuring our satisfaction. Thus, let this proclamation be known: City Barbecue doth provide a repast both bounteous and delectable, though frailties in heat and select offerings doth mar an otherwise noble table. Go forth, ye seekers of smoky sustenance, and partake if thou dost dare! I give them but know they can achieve higher, and I look forward to seeing that happen. The server at the cash register was quite friendly and helpful.

Not as big of a selection of appetizers/hot food bar compared to other restaurants. If I did Hot Pot, I would likely choose this place. It's gorgeously decorated, our waitress, Anisia, was so lovely, attentive, and helpful -and the food was delish. It's different from other restaurants in that it didn't have a 2-hour time limit and if my husband wanted hot pot, I didn't have to pay for it as well. The space is large and decorated nicely compared to the other spots I've been. Our group of four had a bit of a wait (10 minutes) when we arrived around 6:30 on a weekday. They seemed a little understaffed and were only utilizing a small part of the whole restaurant for seating. Our friends are regulars so they guided us on ordering and mixing up our sauces, which was really helpful. Our server was super kind and went through the menu options with us. It's all you can eat and they'll just keep bringing out more items throughout your time. Our server was really good about checking in with us. For hot pot you choose your own broth flavor for your personal hot pot - I went with the Szechuan which was spicy and numbing. I really liked it! Nate got the mushroom, which he said was just okay. I'd recommend starting with a bunch of items all at once. The meats are very thin cuts and cook quickly in the broth. We also got an assortment of veggies, dumplings, and my favorite, the udon noodles. The menu gives cooking times for each item which is helpful. Your price includes all you can eat hot pot or Korean BBQ - you can do both for an extra $6 or so. I honestly think I prefer hot pot to Korean BBQ, it's a little easier and more forgiving of a cooking method. I thought the options were nicely varied, and you get access to the sides/dessert buffet, with salads, kimchi, chicken feet, fries, egg rolls, etc. and the sauce bar that has tons of options! They also have a full bar and serve sake, soju, boba, etc. I really loved this spot and thought the service was by far the best of the hot pot places I've visited in the area.
