Wow! I got the black plate special (espresso rubbed, smoked and seared ribeye), baked beans with brisket. My wife got the smoked salmon and Mac n cheese. Everything was perfect. We decided to give Mission Lakeland a try in lieu of Outback. Not only did we spend less, the food was WAY better. Glad we decided to switch it up. We will be eating here weekly at least. New update as of 6-24-2020: Scott is awesome. What a great businessman and nice guy. He made sure that I left more than happy after a small miscommunication with the cashier. When I have to start my review with "OH MY GOSH!" You know that this is some awesome barbecue made properly. EVERYTHING that we tried today is extraordinary, at least for Florida. I am from Texas and Texas barbecue is brisket. Mission BBQ hits the mark of excellence with brisket! Today was our very first visit and we ordered Brisket ( both lean and moist), Classic Sausage, Turkey and sides of Corn Casserole, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Maggie's Mac n Cheese and Potato Salad and Cornbread. I've already talked about how wonderful the brisket is, and the sausage was very tasty...the only thing I wasn't fond of is how tough the casing is. It was difficult to pierce it with my fork. The turkey was smoked very well and super flavorful and moist. The Corn Casserole is very very tasty as is the cornbread alone by itself was very moist and sweet, just right. The potato salad is chunky with a just right creaminess and great taste. The Maggie's Mac n Cheese is most definitely some of the best I've ever had. Most places the Mac n cheese is basic boring and tastes out of the box...not Maggie's. It tastes homemade with full real cheezy awesomeness. The green beans were cooked with onions and bacon with full flavor. They were prepared just right, not too crisp and not too mushy. One of the managers surprised us with a complimentary chocolate pudding dessert with whipped cream and crumbled cookies on top. This was a great way to finish our first fabulous meal here and a great way to celebrate my Mom's 72nd Birthday today. You order your food at the counter and pick it up there when it's ready. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is a celebration of our military and first responders. There are photographs of military and first responders as well as various service patches, helmets, flags and uniforms adorning the walls. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the place is immaculate. I don't just recommend this place, I will say that it is most definitely worth a drive even if you aren't anywhere close. We live about 45 minutes away and we will be back often. read more

Took a group of 5 Veterans and their family members (10 total) to Mission BBQ for the Armistice Day "free sandwich" for Korean War Veterans. We came by bus and were well received and taken care of by every member of the staff! A Special shout out to Lori Phillips for helping me make arrangements for our party! She is always attentive and I don't think I ever saw her NOT SMILING! What a wonderful place to visit! I have been to several Mission BBQs. I like the atmosphere, but there are two problems. First, the sides can be extremely salty. The lean brisket is very hard and dry, basically overcooked. I provided pictures below. It's hard to chew. I would suggest avoiding Mission BBQ if you are interested in brisket. read more

We discovered this chain while in Maryland. Besides the food being amazing, the atmosphere is like nothing else. The moment you walk in you are immersed in decor showing respect for the military, police, and fire fighters. It's fun to view all the patches and memorabilia. There are two entrances; one for pickup with two parking spots directly outside the pickup door and one for dine-in. Once you order and pay, you can make your way to fill a drink or get condiments from a toolbox. Your name will be announced once your order is ready. The food is delicious. The smoke flavor is so good! Try everything, especially the Mac and cheese side dish. You will not be disappointed. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. They will review your order for accuracy and show each item to you. For pickup they will provide the plastic utensils needed. There are baskets on the counter for dine-in guests to get their forks, knives, or spoons. You can ask about their variety of sauces. I recommend the Alabama white sauce. Enjoy! read more

I have tried the Brisket, Pulled Pork, Spare Ribs, Mac-N-Cheese, Baked Beans, Collard Greens, Potato Salad and Fresh Cut Fries. Every item has been flavorful and delicious but my favorite has been the Brisket, which was very tender and juicy. Me and my Co Driver (Truck Drivers) went to this location and wow first time Scott was really welcoming and sold me on his bbq on top of that the food was very very delicious and we will be coming back most definitely. on top of that Justin one of the workers there was very polite. I am beyond impressed with Mission BBQ. I called ahead my order so it would be ready when I arrived. The parking lot was jam packed with it being lunch hour. However thankfully there are takeout spots. The staff was very friendly on the phone and in person. I LOVE the re-fillable cup that's available to purchase that supports law enforcement. I appreciate this establishment supports military and law enforcement. My food was ready right after I had gotten my drink filled up. The staff was excellent at providing to go bbq sauce, utensils, and placing everything in a nice bag. The food is amazing! The macaroni taste fresh and homemade. Went first week the opened. The staff was hustling cranking out food at a frenzied pace. What made me feel good as that the cashier saw my military id card when i paid and thanked me for my serviceplus passed the word and when I picked up my food all staff near by said the same. That made me feel proud and would come back again. The reason i will go back is the food. It is counter service but thats ok by me as lonf is the food is good. I am updating this review to give it a great rating, as it always really deserved. I was contacted by the general manager who was very concerned about my issues. He apologized profusely, and said this was not their standard of service. So, I returned, without letting them know who I was, and ordered exactly the same meal. It came out exactly as it should have, just as a great barbecue place should be. I now recommend this place, not only for food, but the response to issues. This was supposed to be a good restaurant. Definitely liked the decor and learning what Mission BBQ was about and how they back and support military and first responders. Pretty solid menu when it comes to options but don't plan on big portions, getting any authentic BBQ, or walking away feeling like it was worth the money. As for our order, we went with the smoked meatloaf and a 3 meat sampler platter. Meatloaf was definitely the highlight of our meal but there was nothing smoked about it. Platter was a complete joke. Maybe a smaller tray would help it look like you're getting more. Pulled pork was stringy and not a juicy as you would hope for. While the brisket had an aggressive smoke ring, it had absolutely no smoke flavor, and seems as if the process is to smoke, than braise, and hold it in liquid in hopes to keep it from drying out. As for the ribs, I'm not sure if the seasoning is gonna be nutmeg or cinnamon but there was definitely a whole lot of it in the rub. Will we return? If the wife gets a craving for meatloaf, I can see us coming back for that and only that. If she doesn't get that craving, we'll never step foot back in. read more

Visited 15FEB20 after a Lakeland Tropics game, and ordered takeaway ribs & a brisket sandwich. I also ordered mac & cheese for a side, and my little partner ordered fries. The meats were quite good, the brisket was near perfect, tender and moist with good smoke and bark. The ribs were not as good, but definitely one of the better sets of ribs hereabouts. I like Jimbo's on their better days, but sometimes theirs are dried out, and the Mission ribs were very well made. Everything is a la carte here, a little unusual. I think the prices are slightly higher here than other places, but it really is excellent BBQ. Our order was $28 including tax, so, not bad. They have some kind of deal for veterans, but I didn't avail because it was busy & loud in there, I could barely hear my server & didn't want to push my luck. read more

First experience at any Mission BBQ. Clean BBQ place. Greeted swiftly, overwhelmed by the menu board and coming at it from an awkward side angle. At the counter, I ordered pulled chicken sandwich, potato salad and an icy bottled Diet Coke--$7.58. After-the-fact I saw you could buy fountain soda and get refills. They have 1 side, 2 side or sandwich only options. Best pulled chicken I've ever had! Loved the Tupelo Honey Heat BBQ sauce of the 6. They recommend a white ranch type sauce which I did not like (salty) but glad they keep it cold and not on the tables. Potato salad was okay-too garlicky and not like "mom's", might have had dill in it. (Ingredient list not on website for this product) Staff was friendly, place was clean, service was swift, portions were great and price was right. I liked the veteran's reserved parking spaces, the military decor and the service partnerships by this business. FIrst trip was 4 star. Second trip--ordered the same thing and was disappointed. Chicken was not pulled, it was chunked and chewier. Table was sticky. The exact same meal cost me about $10.50, that cost me 7.58 the week before. Disappointing! The girl at the county seemed pushy with getting me over with and again did not explain drink options vs small glass bottle option in line (and charged me 50c more for the smallest size). The person pushing out the orders shouted my name and almost slid the tray on the floor, away from me though I was standing right there. I really enjoyed this place. You go up to the counter to order and then they call you up when your order is ready, and they're pretty fast. I had the brisket with Mac and cheese and a piece of cornbread and I ate everything, and sampled every sauce that was on the table. They even had unsweetened iced tea, which is a rarity I feel (no judgments, I came from MI). They have desserts too, but I stopped myself! I think it's cool that this place gives back and donates to charities and does great things. I can stand behind that for sure. read more
