We got to the restaurant at 12:25, and thought it would be full. Maybe Thursday is slow for lunch because only two other people were eating inside. Husband and I got the half pork platter with one side. He got beans, which he said were delicious. I got a fresh garden salad with honey mustard. Our friend got brisket (looked moist) with side salad and coleslaw (not creamy). We all got cornbread and liked it. All of us enjoyed our meals, and savored them. Salads were fresh. Pork was just right. It was quiet and peaceful so we were able to catch up in normal speaking voices. Didn't have to shout to be heard. Our waitress was attentive and kept checking up on us. We appreciated that kind of service. We only had to get one to go box for our friend. Husband and I got clean plate awards! Friend paid her bill with a credit card. We used Apple Pay after scanning the QR code. I don't remember paying a surcharge for not using cash, which was refreshing. First visit to this recycled BBQ joint formerly Mojo's. According to some this is some of the best BBQ around. I'll give you the real scoop. At first glance this place looks like a really cool hangout. The mix of metal roofing and American motif gives it a gritty look. Looks to have plenty of seating to include a covered outdoor area. Looked to be clean and organized. Service was spot on and our hostess/server was quick to provide menus and silverware. She immediately took drink orders and returned rather quickly. My friends and I chose the buffet as it was recommended by my friend's cohorts. According to them "they have the best beans and BBQ buffet". A Looking it over there were several meat choices. There was hamburger patties in a brown gravy, several flavors of chicken wings, pulled pork, meatballs, and burnt ends. Overall it was okay at best. Flavors weren't consistent. For example I had a meatball that was very spicy. But the other was bland. I thought the burnt ends were a bit dry as if they sat there all day. The problem with that is we went as they opened. The pulled pork was a bit mushy. The BBQ wings were pretty tasty. I also tried the garlic parmesan. I thought they were a bit salty. Now for the sides. I felt the macaroni was a bit overcooked as opposed to al dente. Hush puppies were okay. The beans were actually good in my opinion. A nice addition was pork rinds. I don't know if they were house made and I forgot to ask. I really didn't go up for seconds as nothing really impressed me. Afterwards I did try their peach cobbler. Mushy and lacking either ice cream or whipped cream. They did have a salad bar. It looked to be fairly fresh. And I wanted to also add, for an extra $5 you can have all you can eat sliced brisket. At $17 I wasn't going to tack another $5 for kess than impressive BBQ. Overall I'd have to say there are far better choices for BBQ in Lakeland. Would I go back? Maybe, but I'd express my opinion. Our group of eight chose to sit outside on the patio, which was comfortable even though it faces the parking lot. The atmosphere overall felt warm and welcoming. Our server, Emily, was wonderful- friendly, upbeat, and incredibly attentive. Even though she was new, she handled our table like a pro. The menu offers a solid selection at reasonable prices. We started with Fried Pickles and Chicken Wings, which the whole table enjoyed. For entrees, we ordered a variety of dishes; the Brisket Sandwich, Pulled Pork, Smokehouse Wrap, Smoked Chicken Plate, and the Baked Potato Bowl. There is plenty of parking here and easy to find. We were greeted at the door and quickly seated for lunch. There is a separate bar area that is protected but is outside and then an indoor bar. Stopped in here today after passing it for years. We ordered the burnt pork belly ends. The portion was 75% fat and the actual meat was very dry. I don't normally send food back but these were bad. We also ordered collards, Mac and cheese and fried okra. The fried okra was the best part. After returning the burnt pork belly ends we ordered the smoked beef brisket half order. The pit-master was kind enough to send us a full order after the problem with the first order. The brisket gad a nice smoke ring and the rub was good. The server also brought us two dipping sauces a white mayonnaise based sauce and a black pepper flavored vinegar based sauce . We both liked the vinegar based sauce and didn't like the white sauce. The sides that we ordered were a little on the small side and all came out lukewarm warm at best. The server was helpful and quickly got our replacement order out and as I said the pit master gave us double our regular portion. We left full . The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating and really looked like a nice venue for a Birthday Party or some other celebration. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon with a group of friends after spending the morning hiking at the Circle B Bar reserve. We chose to sit on the patio because it was a beautiful day. Our waitress was super helpful and very friendly and attentive. The food was INCREDIBLE! I had the ribs...they were probably some of the best ribs I have had in my life...tender, juicy, flavorful and falling off the bone! The sides and other entrees ordered by the rest of my party were also fantastic! The only criticism I have is their "regular" BBQ sauce is super runny (I'm guessing it is a vinegar base). It wasn't good. Same with the "spicy" sauce. The peach BBQ sauce was delicious but only came in a tiny little cup. The peach BBQ sauce was very good,; it just needs to be made available on the table rather than having to request little cups of it. I'd definitely go back! read more

Not Ready for Prime Time! We visited this new outlet recently and had mixed reactions. When ordering, our first complication came with the Caesar salad. One of our guests wanted the salad and some pulled (shredded) chicken as a protein. The server said this could not be done since the chicken was all leg quarters. She recommended that we order the smoked chicken platter with the side salad and then could take the chicken and eat it with the salad. I suggested that he just order the Smokehouse Salad with the chicken and the Caesar dressing as an option. That salad is served with shredded chicken. I ordered the $11 House Salad with blue cheese dressing, and the Brisket Sandwich. The blue cheese dressing is great. There are large chunks of cheese and it has a very balanced flavor (not too acidic). The salad was fresh and very good. However, it is served in a bowl that resembles a dog bowl, and it is not worth $11. The salad is a lunch item on the menu, but is served as a side item. The brisket sandwich was very good. The brisket was flavorful and moist, but the presentation screamed 'pot roast.' Sampling the meat alone, there was not a hint of smoke flavor on the meat. I am sure it is slow cooked, but the lack of smokiness was suspect. In a town where every other restaurant is a barbeque joint, Low and Slow is an ambitious endeavor, but needs some work on streamlining processes and products. So... What's for dinner? The nightly question was answered tonight with a visit to Low and Slow Smokehouse. My wife and I were quickly welcomed by both the hostess and the bartender and sat in a booth. We both ordered the smoked brisket sandwich with a side of cornbread and our plates came out a few minutes later. The buns were piled high with meaty, flavorful brisket and, unlike some other BBQ places, the meat wasn't dry or overly fatty. The cornbread was a generous 5" square service and had just the right amount of sweetness to it. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. While we dined inside the outside dining area and bar looked plenty large to enjoy watching a game on the TVs. There's flags for the Gators, Seminoles, Univ of Miami and Notre Dame (?) but the only thing we found missing was a flag for FSC which is just a few miles away -- Go Mocs! We'll definitely be back and if you haven't tried Low and Slow you're really missing out. read more

The tacos are the better choice between the two because you get pork, brisket, and chicken, and all of the meats are seriously fantastic. Flavorful and not greasy. The baked beans are great and have chunks of sausage in them- best beanie weenies I've ever had! The only thing I wouldn't get again is the potato salad. It wasn't cold and just didn't hit. I'm also surprised there isn't multiple bbq sauces to choose from but the sweet peach sauce is damn good. This is arguably some of the best bbq in the south. This place just opened in the former MoJo's on Memorial Drive. To try it out, we ordered a takeout brisket sandwich and a takeout pulled pork sandwich. Each comes with one side, so we ordered the sweet potato casserole and the mac-n-cheese. In addition, we ordered a side of the coleslaw. Each order came with a small container of the house barbecue sauce. It's a fairly large space with an ample outdoor screened eating area as well as a large inside dining space. The entry way/waiting area could use some extra seating - there was only a table and one chair. Service was prompt, friendly and and organized both in ordering and in getting the food. Both the brisket and the pulled pork were very tasty. The meats were very moist, even the pulled pork which is often dry. The mac-n-cheese was delicious. It's a simple combination of macaroni baked with cheese. There no creamy sauce (which I appreciated) and the macaroni was nicely cooked. I would order this again. The sweet potato casserole was disappointing. It had the consistency of mashed sweet potatoes. It had some cinnamon but wasn't overpowering (which was good). I don't think there was any added sugar because, again, it really just tasted like mashed sweet potatoes. If it were a true casserole, I would have expected some additional ingredients and "dressing up" to qualify it. The serving size was generous, easily a cup or more. At this size it was shareable. The equally generous helping coleslaw was okay. It had a texture I've not encountered before. At first, when I opened the container, I thought it was ranch dressing. It looks like the cabbage and dressing have been blended in a blender or food processor, the cabbage bits are very chopped up. So, it was more like coleslaw "soup". My wife liked it. It wouldn't be my favorite coleslaw. They had other sides, including beans, collards, among them. Our meal totaled ~$36 (no drinks). From our experience, I would say this is fairly typical of BBQ places now. We'll be back to try other offerings on the menu. read more

One price for the buffet please and it is in dire need of a spruce up. The coleslaw; it was swimming in dressing and I really could not see what I was eating. I could not finish it. Although I asked for well done fries, they were undercooked and way too greasy. They were really bad. I suggest you start serving crinkle cuts. The fried pickles were good, served with a choice of ranch, blue cheese or an Alabama white sauce which brings me to the choice of sauces. We chose the white sauce. The sauces are too thin for the meats. They are absorbed once you put them on the sandwich. They have a squeeze bottle of regular, way too thin sauce on the table, the server offered spicy and peach. Yuck. The spicy tasted a little better than the original but again the sauces are too thin. I expected better from this place. Regarding places for barbecue, there is a lot of competition in this area. If they don't add some sparkle and change things up, Low and Slow will not last. read more

My first visit was a "5", my second was a "2", the third was a "2" as carry-out, so will settle on a "3" for the here and now. Enjoyed their brisket baked potato at $15 when other spots have it for $10. The brisket was tasty and size enormous, service was prompt and efficient. Love their vinegar based sauce and that they're trying to make non-NC style eaters happy with a thicker companion sauce. I'll get the $10 ones elsewhere though and be happy. Second visit was to try breakfast with a friend. We both enjoyed our choices (she pulled pork, me brisket quesadilla). Flavorful meat, filling a fun heavy-protein meal. Sadly, we were both ill all afternoon, having had different meats--so we think it suffers from "dirty grill". It makes us leary to return. The third time was a to go order for a multi-restaurant taste test of homemade sausage. We wanted sausage only and they refused to sell it to us by the pound a la carte. They insisted we had to buy a 2 side platter. Which we did. While their sausage was first place of choices presented it was still "average" at best, more of a kielbasa style, juicy but with no stand-out flavor notes. The collards were cold and bland and the mac was only okay. We were totally disappointed in the expensive $7 bread pudding that was basically vanilla pudding with only 2 measly slices of banana in the entire thing. I do hope this place continues to perfect its craft in Lakeland and become a raving success. Will wait a while before returning.
