We always stop by when in area. The shop has a great selection of Vermonty guides and history mixed with current and classic books on a wide variety of topics. I always find something new. This place was great, I really appreciated how friendly the store owner was. There is a cozy feel here that makes me just want to spend the day. I really enjoyed the selection but wasn't sure that it was the best selection possible. The kids section in the back was very extensive and well layed out i loved it. We love bookstores, especially small independents. Especially independents with chatty, friendly owners and a good stock of local books. Misty Valley fits the bill perfectly, thanks to co-owner Bill, who proved not only knowledgeable about his own stock but about the town of Chester as well. He's a great ambassador! But to the point: the store has a large selection of VT and NE books, great for browsing, as well as the usual bestsellers. and a strong backlist in several areas including cooking and fantasy. t's good to see personalized recommendation sheets on a number of titles. It tells us that Bill and his customers have a good, reciprocal relationship. We bought some VT books, a cookbook and a couple of sci-fi novels to get us through the next week or so. Yeah, we're junkies, but we know something about bookshops, and please believe us, this is a good one. The folks in Chester are fortunate. read more

What a cute little store! My husband and I went in not looking for anything in particular, but we were greeted by the friendly owner. We bought a few things that we could take home with us to remember the area of Chester, VT and talked with the owner for a bit. He was so friendly and gave us suggestions on where to visit and where other little towns were that he'd thought we'd like. They seem to have a nice selection of books and other items. The comfy French ambience made me want to spend more time in there. I would definitely recommend this to people visiting the area! read more
