A close friend who's a realtor, mentioned that he refers a number of his clients to Carla's office, and suggested I call. I spoke to Maria, and shared information regarding the coverage I had recieved, and the property in question. Maria promised to get back to me quickly, and she kept her word. She let me know that I had an exceptionally low rate with the existing carrier, and should definitely renew it. She didn't try to upsell me, invent silly reasons why the existing coverage was not good, or any of the other shenanigans that too many of us have come to expect from some insurance folks, sad to say. She also shared with me other insurance options her company offers, and helpful advice around future insurance purchases. Overall, even though I didn't end up purchasing a policy, Maria and the team at Carla's office was outstanding for being transparent, helpful and responsive. My Mini Cooper's premium had suddenly doubled despite that fact I had no accidents, no claims, no tickets, nothing. After an hour+ of phone calls with various agents in corporate offices, one of whom stated flatly that her hands were tied and there was nothing she could do to help me, I was ready to switch insurers after nearly three decades with GEICO. In a last effort, I phoned my local GEICO agent, Richard Nguyen in Hawthorne. He asked me to give him a half hour to work on the issue and he would phone me back. Less than 30 minutes later he phoned to tell me the issue was resolved. My insurance had returned to its previous fair rate. Going forward, Richard is my go-to contact for all matters related to car (and motorcycle) insurance.

He said I couldn't transfer my existing Allstate policy from RI and so I had to do a cancel/rewrite. He asked for some documents (car titles) and I completed all requested documentation in a timely manner. I had thought everything was in order but a few weeks later I got a letter saying my policy was going to be canceled in two weeks. I called Allstate again (different agent at central office) who tried to submit the documentation needed by the underwriters to keep the policy going. Multiple calls to the agency went without a real response. The agent who did the cancel/rewrite managed to incorrectly document both my email address and my cell phone number which I assume would be their excuse for not being able to reach me. If there was any doubt of this, I had emailed the agent directly with scans of the car titles and signed forms, so it's not as if he couldn't have figured that out in less than 2 minutes, not to mention my cell phone being the same number on record for my RI policy. The RI office continued my coverage since they never received notification of my cancelation, so I was paying Allstate for two policies at once. I went to an agency closer to me and they were able to sort everything out eventually, but this was hours of my time spent going in circles. I never once received any communication from this agency explaining what happened or apologizing for any part of their screw up. I filed a formal complaint with Allstate which I doubt will go anywhere, but hopefully it at least goes into the agent's file.
