Stopped by for an early dinner. It is an unassuming exterior, but easy to spot from the road due to the easy-to-spot signage. The inside was very clean and offered indoor dining or carry out. We ordered the pulled pork platter the two sides for this were the baked beans and the vinegar slaw. The pulled pork was some of the best I've eaten. I didn't add any sauce -no need to change that delicious flavor!! We also ordered the rib and brisket platter. Again, what can I say but both meats were tremendously yummy. However we did try some of the Alabama white sauce on the ribs-- yum!! The collard greens and potato salad were also good. Prices are moderate and the service was quick. Mitchell's Smoked Meats is a great barbecue place and I would definitely recommend here if you are in the area. I met the owner while I was there and he was was very friendly and outgoing. The ambiance is pretty humble, but it is thefood that truly shines here. I went with the chicken and for my sides I went with the potato salad and the hot mustard slaw. The chicken was stellar. The potato salad was great. Personally, I was not blown away by the mustard slaw, but I never had it before and it could just be me. Top to bottom one of the best meals I have had in all of Alabama. The staff is welcoming and kind, and helped narrow down the options that I am sure are all great. There is seating in the restaurant, and you feel at home while there. The smoked pork chop was stellar, the hot mustard slaw was a welcomed delicious surprise, the collards were the best collards I have ever had, and the banana pudding was the perfect way to end the meal! read more

I hate to do this but the BBQ is warmed up so its basically leftovers which would be fine but the chicken was overcooked or re heated too long which is a shame cause the smoke is there. Bbq sauce good service good place clean. They should smoke on site or narrow down the menu read more

Met the owner Mr. Bryant Mitchell. Super nice man. They make all the food personally. The ribs are so good. Greens are my favorite. Cooked fresh. No left overs here. Sweet vinegar slaw was delicious. Banana pudding was a delight. It has all the perfect amounts of bananas cookies and pudding. Great with ice cream. Wow what a meal. Don't miss it. Wish this was in my home town. Potato was proper cooked to be fluffy and easy to scoop out with each bite. Fillings were generally well seasoned but I did need a little extra salt, not a negative because everyone has different salt desires, but if you're getting it to go and not eating at home you might want to remember to ask for a Togo salt packet or two. The white sauce was not too sweet as some places make it way too sweet (coughJohnscough). The greens were yummy and perfectly seasoned no extra salt needed. The only thing is I wish the portions were a little bitty bit bigger for the price. The potato isn't as giant as a big Bob's or Henley's and the cup of greens is kinda tiny for 2.50. But the flavor is there, the taste is good. 2 chicken potatoes and a side of greens came to 32 and some change. I them heard about banana pudding and added that on. I did not get a picture before me and toddler inhaled it. It was amazing. Thick, creamy, sweet. A++ for the banana pudding. Get it for sure. read more

I gave it 2 stars because I thought the young lady at the register was very nice. But, I give the food 1 star. The taste of the brisket was okay. It wasn't anything spectacular. But, I was extremely disappointed in the portion size. It cost $13 and I got 4 pieces of bread-length size brisket on Texas Toast. The bread was too thick for the portion of meat--and I could have done without the bread being toasted. My Texan heart was disappointed because their Facebook pictures were outstanding and really drew me in, but the taste, portion size and cost didn't do the pictures any justice. read more

I did indeed go back and tried the ribs this time. Killer good!! They are somewhat reminiscent of the ribs at the world famous Rendezvous in Memphis with a dry rub style, but better! They don't even need sauce, although their sauce is very good too. Solid potato salad also. No, I'm not related to Mr Mitchell and he's not asking me to give good reviews - I'm just happy to tell the world when I find outstanding food. My only regret is that I don't live here and can't eat it more often. read more

I have never ordered anything from Mitchell's Smoked Meats that I didn't like. White beans, turnips, cobbler, banana pudding, etc. However, the brisket from Mitchell's is what brings me back. Everything is smoked: pulled meats, burgers, and, of course, the brisket. If you have never had a smoked hamburger, you owe it to yourself to put Mitchell's on your list. read more

on June 28th I picked up some beef brisket, I did order it sliced and it came chopped a full pound. However its was excellent not salty just perfectly smoked no fat just delicious brisket. Next time I will want it chopped again. read more

Everything about this place I loved from the courteous cashier to the polite chef in the back that brought my food to me when it was done. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner as well and in no way did he drop the ball with his Southern hospitality and charm as well. If you're looking for a clean established locally owned eatery this is the place to go.
