Stopped by Rick's to pick up some dinner in the way home, so I just ran through the drive through. Service was quick and pleasant. We opted for a Pulled pork plate with baked beans and potato salad; and a wing snack with vinegar slaw. Pulled pork was moist and smoky. No sauce needed. Sides were excellent. Wings were cooked nicely and I added a little of their mild BBQ sauce. Gave it a nice flavor. The vinegar slaw was a little dry and bland. Could have used some salt. Overall good meal. Recently tried the ribs and gave the bale beans a chance and honestly really good for how much you pay.

I hate to say it, this place was just plain bad. If you have ever read my reviews, you know I want hot food to be hot.. I got the two meat platter with ribs and beef (not brisket, beef - that should have been a warning) with their tri-tater, spicy fries and mayo coleslaw. The tri-tater is a frozen hash brown patty in the shape of a triangle. The spicy fries were not spicy and they were not hot, meaning they were cold. The slaw was okay, just drenched in the mayo-based dressing that it came with. The ribs were so over cooked, that the meat was just mushy and I got a couple of the bones that are often at the ends of the ribs and when I bit them, they just disintegrated as well. The beef was some kind of stringy, tough, flavorless meat. Neither one of the meats really had any smoke on them at all. It's tough to put a finger on this place. It's clean and the staff is friendly enough but my guess is that's it's "assembly line" bbq. Not cooked like regular down home smoked bbq. I think it's probably boiled and then bagged. It's not that it's bad it's that it's just not good. Admittedly the sweet sauce does a really good job of saving it and the baked beans are good if not very good. The fruit tea is also exceptional. I wish a negative star review existed; however it doesn't so here I am leaving a much overrated one star ranking. To be honest with you, it was the flashy digital sign that drew me to "Ricks" house of garbageQue, so I only have myself to blame. Also, I should have looked for smoke stacks because I feel confident the meats came from a bag, possibly labeled "not fit for human consumption". Fries were okay, as well as the mustard slaw, I ordered the beef and chicken combo. The beef looked and tasted like "insert expletive here" and the chicken was delivered in a cup. Stopped in today for a Beef sandwich w/ one side, picked spicy fries for my side. Meat was dry, not much flavor at all, was edible when I drenched it in some sauce. Fries were decent though. Was still hungry, so ordered some cheesecake for dessert -- that was very good. A weak 3 Star rating. With all the other BBQ places about in Northern Alabama, doubt I'll give any other Rick's BBQ locations a try again. read more

When you go to the BBQ restaurant and the fries are the highlight. :| Pulled pork was average, sauces were okay, baked beans were boring, but the french fries were really good. Go figure. On the bright side, service was great, as was the tea. And nice clean digs, so three stars are in order. Today was the first time I have ever thrown away a pull pork sandwich. The meat was not seasoned and it had a sauce that I prayed was white bbq sauce but instead it was onions and mayonnaise. I eat here alot until Tuesday June 6. My sister and I eat here. Loaded potato for me and bbq plate for her. Bbq was cold. I'm not talking room temperature cold. Refrigerator cold. This will be my last time at Rick's. I am tired of wasting my money. I ordered 1 loaded skins and 3 brownie explosion. When my food was passed out the window I was then told well we don't have anymore fudge...well we do but it's not prepped.... Okay so you mean to tell me that I sat in drive through for 15 minutes to be told that you didn't have anymore fudge prepped? It takes 30 seconds or less to open one of those cans and just a minute to portion some out in a container and then put it in the microwave but, I'm going to sit there for 15 minutes and not have any fudge or cherry on my brownie explosion?? Then, don't get me started on my potato skins... over cooked nasty dry skin, no bacon (i guess they didn't have anymore of that prepped either). This place is like a mystery house. Like, why does a BBQ place have nachos on the menu? Why does a BBQ platter come with a huge tator tot? The vinegar coleslaw was basically inedible. I live in Memphis, TN where good barbecue abounds at every street corner. I also have eaten barbecue at many different restaurants in many other towns. I am not so terribly fond of barbecue itself, so I just about always get ribs. Every single restaurant where I have eaten ribs, there comes with the order a couple of sides, such as slaw and baked beans. On Saturday evening, October 3rd, I happened to pass through Florence, AL and stopped at Rick's to pick up ribs for dinner to take back to Iuka, MS to have for dinner with my family in Iuka. I ordered two full slabs of ribs (at a cost of right at $20 per slab). First of all, the cashier who took my order didn't seem to have working on her mind and just wanted to play around with the male cashier who worked at the other register. She also very much fit the portrayed image of a "dumb blonde" who couldn't comprehend anything I said. Two or three times during the placement of my order, she stopped to consult with the male cashier at the other register. What I ordered, however, was two full slabs of ribs to go. I requested the barbecue sauce be added to the side. Of course, as one might expect, I got all the way back to Iuka with the ribs, and there was no barbecue sauce given. Who wants barbecue meat without barbecue sauce???? Who wants to get home with a take out order and not have what he ordered???? As I said to begin with, I have ordered slabs of ribs from an endless number of restaurants. Two sides were always included with those slabs. In ordering the two slabs at Rick's, however, I discovered that, if one wants slabs, he must purchase the "picnic" deal. The two slabs I ordered were right at $20 each if purchased by themselves, and that would have totaled $40. To get the sides, though, I had to pay $20 more, which brought the total to $60 plus dollars. That means the cost of the sides was more than $20. There has never been one single restaurant at which I have gotten slabs of ribs where I had to buy the sides separately. Sides ALWAYS come with the slabs. And, to make things even worse, the "dumb blonde" didn't even give me the barbecue sauce that was supposed to go with the meat. If one pays $20 for a meal - at any restaurant at all - he's going to get sides with it (salad and baked potato, etc.). Likewise, a $20 order of ribs should include two sides. In every other place I've ordered ribs, these two sides have been included. Shame on Rick's for its practice of making customers pay $20 extra just to get those two sides. I live in Memphis, but I often travel through Tuscumbia and Florence. It's not unusual for me to stop in that area to purchase food. Rick's can be certain, however, that I will not stop there again. I have no interest in patronizing any business that practices such poor management and greed. read more

Good food for value here. I spent just less than $10 and got a half rack of ribs, Tri-tots (not recommended) and baked beans. The meat was falling off the bone with little to no sauce. This kinda place you add your own sauce. The sauce was good and hot as advertised, but not overly so. Our table didn't have paper towels, so far that I deduct one star. Also I didn't care for the Tri tots and recommend either the tater tots or fries. read more

I live in Chattanooga and have family in Florence and Lawrenceburg. I try to never miss an opportunity to eat here...either location. Their barbecue is great...never has disappointed! I love their loaded potato...and their baked potato salad is delicious!! I've not had an order yet that I've not been pleased with and I've had LOTS of barbecue...from Texas, Memphis, to Virginia, the Carolinas and Pennsylvania....thanks to my father being a career Navy man. Let me clarify, this is a review for the Hwy-72 location close to Killen. Please please read this and be appalled. They are horribly managed. They always mess up potatoes and put chives on it, even though you clearly state "no chives". They are all around rude and inconsiderate. Tonight, I got a Loaded baked potato with NO CHIVES. When I got to the window and paid, I even let the girl keep my change for her drawer. I got home and looked at my potato, there was barely any beef and they put a mountain of chives on the potato. I got angry but I decided it wasn't worth losing my cool. My brother from out of town was down at the Marriott and wanted to get supper with me so I went and ate with him at Swamper's(phenomenal place to eat). Afterwards, I went to Rick's to get my potato fixed. I asked nicely to fix it and told them what was wrong. The manager comes out of the back and passive aggressively told me that I took beef off the potato and that I was just trying to score free food. I told him about my dining at the Marriott and that if wasn't willing to fix it, then I need my money back. He again called me a liar and told me to leave the premises. The people around me were shaking their head in disappointment at the way the MANAGER was talking to me. I left but just let me warn you. If you get food from there, make sure it is right before you leave. They WILL mess you up over a few pieces of beef. read more

Drive Thru- healthy option for any of the meats. Their loaded potatoes are baked and the skin potatoes are fried so choose wisely. Flavor is smokey, fresh and it was fast when I went but I am sure it depends. Our son was sleeping in the car seat while I went by the drive thru so I give them 5 starts for convenience. I also got one lb of beef/chicken for lunch tomorrow. read more

First time trying Rick's. I will say I was not disappointed. The menu has plenty of options and has everything for barbecue goers. I really wanted to like it. I'm brand new to the area and stopped in for lunch. Had the rib platter. It was honestly the worst plate of food I have had in a long time. I've never seen so much grease and dripping fat on a plate. Very little "BBQ" flavor at all. The side of Cole slaw tasted EXACTLY like KFC's (which I kinda like so not sure how to judge this one). Two Words: SLAW DOG. Three more words: WITH WHITE SAUCE. The loaded baked potatoes are not bad, but the only thing I will ever order from Rick's again will be the slaw dog with white sauce. If my bride lets me, we will be stopping at Rick's for slaw dogs with white sauce upon each return to the Florence area. And we go there often. The people are nice and the location is easy. Other places do other items better as far as BBQ goes, but that smoky, zesty dog with the mustardy, spicy slaw takes me to hot dog heaven with Saint Nathan at the nitrite gates. read more

Today we visited the newer Rick's close to Killen. I got a loaded baked potato, and I must say, the bar b que that was on my potato was good, but that is it. This must have been the worst one that I have had from them. I don't know if it was just a bad night for them or they have just started cutting back on the sour cream and butter. I'm disappointed in the food after they moved to the new building. I get a pulled pork potato about once a month and the amount of pork was always a very generous portion. The first ime I got one after they moved to the new place the pork was very skimpy but it was kind of late so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. Same thing......there was hardly any cheese, sour cream or por k on the potato but plenty of green onions which would have been great if I had ordered a GREE ONION potato. heard it was good but I didnt have a good experience. Ribs were dry and had big chunks of gelatinous fat! Just looking around the restaurant - there is some areas of very thick dust. Especially up high. The area above the counter was the worst. hasnt been dusted in years. The ice cream cone looked really good in the pictures. But it is very grainy, ice MILK. Not much flavor.
