I have corneal eye issues, and I have always been treated very well by this office. I see Dr Mittleman and Dr V. This past week,on a Sunday ,I woke up with a very painful eye, I had scratched my eye in the night and I had an abrasion and it was killing me! They went to Great lengths to get me in right away. I called them late Sunday and they said call back early Monday, but they called me first and got me right in. Dr V saw me three times and alleviated my pain and fixed me right up with drops. I was very grateful that they saw me right away immediately, knew what it was and prescribed the right medicine for me and got me out of my burning pain with speed! I knew I needed to find a new eye doctor this year, but I had no idea a corneal ulcer would be the thing to bring me into the doors of Mittleman Eye. As a millennial who still relies on friendly reminders from my mother to make sure I'm taking care of myself, I booked an eye exam with For Eyes thinking I'd get a quick exam, a contact lens prescription for the year, and be good until the following year. Boy was I in for a surprise. I left For Eyes with $79 spent and a bad contact prescription I could barely see out of while driving home. When I called for a follow-up to fix the prescription, I was given an appointment further out than I preferred, especially since I was out of contacts and only had one ill-fitting pair. The next day at work I began to feel irritation in my right eye, removed my contact for relief, and the irritation persisted. I knew MedExpress or a walk-in clinic wouldn't help, so at 7 a.m. Wednesday I logged into my insurance platform to find a more well-versed eye care facility. Mittleman Eye came up in my search, and by 8 a.m. I was sitting in their office prepared to figure out what was going on. The facility is beautiful, well staffed, and very clean. I was greeted by friendly employees and felt like my issue was handled with thought and care. My appointment wasn't rushed, and the doctors and nurses quickly identified my issue and offered solutions to address my eye pain. I was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer in my right eye, and the doctors were very informative about what treatment would look like over the next few days and they started me on antibiotic drops. Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, I realized my prescriptions still hadn't been filled. After calling the pharmacy, I learned they weren't processing it because the number of doses per day was missing. I called the emergency after-hours line, worried I wouldn't be able to continue antibiotics until after work the next day. Not only did a doctor call me back within the hour (8 p.m.), he called Publix pharmacy directly, and they had my prescription ready in 10 minutes! Just in time for me to pick it up before closing and get a few rounds of drops in before bed. My follow up appointment today was scheduled for 2:30pm. I was seen by the doctor around 3:50pm. An excruciating wait but I was notified that they were behind when I was checked in. However, when I was seen I experienced the same informative, kind and friendly service as before. Although having a corneal ulcer is one of the worst imaginable experiences, Mittleman Eye has handled me with so much care. I am incredibly grateful I found them. I was told it could take time to "adjust" to it, no idea how long, and was referred to another Opthamologist in Boca Raton to have a lens replacement, because apparently Mittleman does not do that. It's an entire building. Lots of parking, not enough handicap spaces. EXTREMELY well organized, very clean, comfortable and you don't wait long. I thought the doctor was thoughtful and the technicians well trained. They have great technology- all sorts of machines and devices that looked super current. I had an eye exam and purchased three pairs of glasses. It's expensive, but I was confident that I had an excellent exam. If I could leave zero stars I would. I was seen at this practice twice for complaints of pressure and pain to my right eye. During the first visit, an examine was done and the doctor stated he couldn't find any issues. Told me to follow with my PCP, and he'll see me in a year! A few days later, I developed swelling to that eye and blurry vision. I went back and was told it was a stye. Given antibiotics and told to follow up in 2 weeks. My symptoms worsened, so I decided to go to Bascom Palmer in Miami. The doctor looked at me and immediately ordered an MRI. I was diagnosed with orbital cellulitis and Perineuritis. I could have lost my vision! The doctors at Mittleman don't truly listen to a patient's concerns and rush you out of the office. I would highly recommend NEVER going there. read more

We haven't found a dry eye treatment that is definitively helping me, but we have tried a LOT of different things. I was refused an appointment as a new patient looking to get my annual exam covered by my vision insurance. They wanted to push me into making medical eye appointment before they would do my annual exam to see if my eyes were healthy and if my prescription had changed. This seems counterintuitive. I was polite and clearly stated that once I had my annual exam completed I would consider a medical eye appointment if the Dr. found it necessary.. I have gone to Mittleman Eye for several years. I went yesterday for my annual checkup. When I went last year, I had requested a copy of my prescription and was informed that they did not do a thorough exam that would result in a prescription. I let that go by. I told them yesterday that I would like my prescription before they even started. They said fine. When I finally got to the dr after waiting 1 1/2 hours, I told him I wanted my prescription. He re-did the eye test to confirm the numbers. As I checked out, they told me I owed money for the prescription. I asked why and they commented that they cannot bill for the medical and the vision test on the same day (I have medical coverage and vision coverage). My visit to the Ophthalmology practice of Mittleman Eye deserves 5 stars! Estephany checked me in at the front desk and could not have been more pleasant. There is a security guard at the front of the building to ensure you have an appointment in the building. He was also very professional. Then I didn't wait long in the lobby, because Johana took me in her office and did a lot of measurements of my eye and gave me a vision test. She was lovely and explained everything that she was doing. She dilated my eyes and I sat in a smaller lobby with other patients. Not for long though...because it was then that I met the loveliest employee of all. Dominique, was so good at her job. I'll bet It's not a job to her because she loves what she does with a passion and it shows. She also explained everything and informed me what my insurance would pay and what my portion would be and I was able to select a pair of glasses with her help. She was absolutely delightful.. she brought me back into the small lobby with other patients with dilated eyes. Dr Erickson brought me in another room And introduced me to a Staff member of his and an optometry student. All of them were professional and tested my eyes further and took pictures of my eyes. Then he asked a staff member to Take me to the second floor for some special measurements with a special machine and that nice lady was more than lovely as well as the staff that took those measurements. They returned to me to Chris. He checked me out at the end, and made an appointment with me for next year, and overall, I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience at this practice. The worst ever- not giving me my prescription even after I have paid for exams, telling me I have to pay additionally to get a copy of the prescription. Then having had an eye exam THIS year, being told they don't have a current prescription for my contacts because I didn't request that the doctor write it down during my exam. Had an appointment on August 25 in their Jupiter office. Met Dr. Justina Vasilianskas. Was informed that someone from the surgery team would connect with me. I questioned if they would get prior approval from health care insurance. Lead to believe this was the case. Did not hear from them again. I called on September 22, 2022 to find out what the situation was. If they had received approval from my health care provider. Was asked for $375.00 to proceed with my eye exam that would be applied against my total out of pocket cost. This $375 was nonrefundable. September 26, 2022 Went in to the office, had the eye exam and was asked to sign for the payment of $375.00, as explained to me already. Then I met with a woman, Jax, that explained the pricing to me. They do not present payment to my insurer for reimbursement. They want $11,000 to provide the surgery for cataract removal. This is clearly bait and switch. Never lead to believe that the cost would all be out of pocket. They took all my health care info and did submit to my insurer to cover the cost of my 1st visit. I requested an appointment for an ophthalmologist specifically explaining that I thought that I had (and gotten over) a lower eye lid infection and just wanted someone who I thought was the appropriate eyecare professional to take a look at my lower eye lid and tell me if I'm fine or not. I have my own optometrist for 30 years, but she it farther away. When I got to my appointment, the place was quite busy. I completed the forms and potential treatment acknowledgements. I was told the visit would be an hour and a half or an hour 45 minutes. I thought, certainly not me, I just need a knowledgeable professional to look at my lower lid. Anyway, as I get taken back (30 minutes passed my appointment time) I am told that my eyes will be dilated and vision tested and I think a renal scan (but I wasn't even listening at that point). I told the staff this can't be right. I am not here for my sight or anything that has to do with my eyeball in any way. I just need someone to look at my lower eye lid. Well, this is protocol. I argued. She then took me back into a vision testing room and took my history. Again, I explained why I was there -- in detail. She said she understood and started to have me cover one eye to do a glasses vision test. I got up and said...... this is not why I am here. I'm not doing this. She went and got her manager. I told her, too, why I was there had absolutely NOTHING to do with my sight or eyeballs or retinas. I'm sorry it's protocol or the doctor can't see you. I said, well you can't help me, then. I left. After having a comprehensive Eye examination at Mittleman Eye in late January, I lost vision, 33-days later, after being told I had 20/30 vision. I tried explaining that I noticed vision changes, but my complaints were dismissed. I have maintained strict compliance with all my annual visits, to avoid any permanent damage , but now I am under the care of a Retinal Specialist, because of Dr Mittleman's misdiagnosis. After reading other reviews, I now realize others share the same complaints about this practice, and we have not received the care that we deserved after patronizing this practice for 5-years. The positives- very thorough eye exam. Cordial and friendly staff. The negatives- completely misdiagnosed my eye condition and after spending over $500 out of pocket for this very thorough exam. Advised treatment: I was told to use eye drops due to dry eyes. Returned for second visit, 2 weeks later as condition worsened. This time prescribed an Rx (steroid) for same dry eye condition. Go to different Ophthalmologist for 2nd opinion as drops and steroids have not helped. Diagnosed within minutes... without the fancy equipment and extensive ($500) eye exam. Diagnosis: blocked tear duct. Now waiting on surgery date. With a proper diagnosis this could have been taken care of in April instead of it progressively getting worse. If you value your eyesight I encourage you to read this entire review. In my opinion, if you are a candidate for surgery, particularly cataract surgery, Mittleman Eye is the last place I would consider. I made an appointment for cataract surgery with them expecting to see Dr. Mittleman but the office assigned me to Dr. Fair. The main goal of this practice seems to be to herd as many people as possible through a factory-like procedure to maximize the amount money they can extract from each. Before you ever see a doctor you may be asked to pay up front before seeing anyone. Their stated reason for this is if they didn't collect up front their patients wouldn't pay. Based on the quality of service they provide I can understand. Their image and maintaining a heavy patient volume is so important to them that according to a prior employee they even have a staff to monitor social media and review comments like these. I suspect they probably have hundreds of fake reviews to keep a five star rating. Their billing department is incompetent and very customer unfriendly. They harassed me daily with texts and emails when I contested a small charge that they never could explain. The larger concern is that they promote expensive surgery and promote outcomes that they cannot always control or deliver. In my case I spent over $4,000 on a lens and cataract surgery and my vision is worse now than before surgery. The doctor doesn't know why, and says there is nothing he can do to correct it since his surgery was perfect. The surgical procedure itself was also a major problem. Again, I paid extra to have the surgery done in their own private suite with oral sedation. I was not properly sedated which caused the surgery to be a very traumatic, uncomfortable event. Most disturbing was that the doctor would not take any responsibility for my extreme discomfort and the failed sedation. He said I was the only person who had a problem. I had never heard of a doctor blaming a patient for the pain they felt from the doctor's surgical procedure. His lack of concern for my discomfort was clear. His main objective seemed to be to finish the surgical procedure as quickly as possible to move on to the next patient. They were lined up like parts on a factory floor. Afterwards and on several subsequent visits the doctor repeatedly stated that he did everything perfectly, performed 17 surgeries that day, and that no other patients had issues. Seventeen surgeries in one day should tell you something. When I voiced my concern about my poor vision he repeated that everything he did was perfect. It appears Dr. Fair considers his surgery perfect and a complete success even if the patient's vision is worse after surgery than before. All of the young technicians who performed the tests that I received were both professional and friendly, but they are the only ones in the entire operation that are really good at their jobs and have respect for their patients. It is a shame that the same cannot be said about the doctors and management at Mittleman. I don't doubt that some of their surgeries are perfect and have good results. Those are not the ones that should concern you. The bottom line is my eyesight is worse after surgery than before and the doctor has no explanation. He only said it's never happened before, which I seriously doubt. His final recommendation was for me to see another doctor. Since he had already been paid why should he care? After spending nearly $5,000 and having blurry vision needless to say I am not happy. This was the worst medical experience of my life. IMO nothing about Mittleman is quality medical care. read more

Awful! I wish I could give ZERO STARS Husband has had surgery canceled two weeks in a row. Supposed to have been October 18 and 25 for cataracts. They were very prompt with collecting money but the first date the office called two days before the surgery. Now it's October 25 and November 8th. Drive down ether center as directed. After 2.5 hours, husband comes out with an X by the side of his head but NO SURGERY. why???? Because they don't have the lens. Who is running the operation? The village idiot? No compensation for what he's been going through which is awful since he can't see and not permitted to his contact lenses as part of the preparation. Ugh mixed feelings. "My eye is in worse condition than I came in for. " Let me begin: I loved that I could book my own appointment online. That was a wonderful experience.When I showed up the security guard said I was at the wrong location and asked for me to drive to Jupiter.... "I'm what?!" I thought... Thankfully I had my screen shot of where my appointment was booked. When I arrived 10 mins early, they had me sit until my appointment. Office staff was super friendly but I kind of wish they would have given me the paperwork to fill out when I got there first thing because my appointment that was supposed to start at 9am but it didn't start probably until 9:30am. I was in pain and ready to get paperwork done as fast as possible. . The office was full of people. They wouldn't take my Eye Med or my HMO Florida so they charged me $265 just to look at my eye because it was a medical condition. The original doctor I was told wouldn't see me even though I booked with him. Later thankfully he ended up popping in and he was nice but they didn't give me anything to release the pain I was experiencing. They prescribed me the medication but when I went to pick it up nobody had called it in from their office . I'm a new mom and so time was wasted by having me stop at my pharmacy. My pharmacy knew nothing about the medicines I was trying to pick up. So I had to call Mittleman Eye and they ended up calling it in. Why do I have to chase these things? I guess they don't really care. So when I tried to pick up at 11am it wasn't ready. I picked the meds up at 4pm finally after waiting all day. Oh and before I left I asked if they could give me a free compress or something since I just spent so much money for them to look at my eye and give me no relief of pain. They said I'd have to pay $20 for the thing. WTF I just spent money to have my eye helped and now they can't even help me. I left. Whatever. Anyways, took the meds. Woke up feeling WORSE!! My eye is now closed shut and disgusting. I called the office to speak to a nurse because I think I'm having some bad reaction. The operator asked me why.... I told her my condition was worse and i asked if she was a nurse and she said no. She took it personally and hung up on me. What the heck?! I'm in pain. I want to speak to a nurse. I'm not being rude by asking to speak to a nurse. Why should I explain my condition to a operator? I told her I needed to speak to a nurse. Wow. I couldn't believe she hung up on me. Anyways, I tried to call back and she put me on hold forever. What a horrible person to treat a patient that way. I'm in pain. I'm having a reaction to the meds and I was trying to find out when I could hear from a nurse but your operator has no compassion and is super reactive and took it personally when she simply doesn't have the authority to help me. She isn't a doctor or a nurse . She should have just provided me the nurse phone number or transferred me or took my number down . Terrible customer service from the operator and terrible experience. Very Dissapointing Visit - - During eye exam the optician stated that I had cataracts and asked me if I wanted to schedule surgery ! The next stop was described as waiting to see the doctor masking a phase to sell me new glasses... Next stop the doctor examined me and said I was doing great, see you next year, all looking great! Cataracts are very small, everyone has cataracts... NO NEED FOR SURGERY I can possibly see someone be being concerned (as I was) and signing up for surgery when not needed - is this a doctors office or car dealership ? Then when I asked for my RX or the results of my eye exam I was told I had to pay $75 for it, or to come back for another exam, even though they just examined me, dilated me, and tried to sell me new glasses with the new RX which they had, are billing insurance for, but would not give it to me ... would not provide as an RX and not even just sharing the results vs the glasses I was wearing. read more

She even informed me that I can call on the weekends should an emergency ever arise. The office is also very nice and clean. I had a scheduled appointment for 11:30am as a first time patient and got to the office at around 11:20am. Prior to the appointment, I signed a couple of documents that was sent via email. Many were straight forward patient intake forms but I declined to sign the form titled "Patient Financial Responsibly". I was given a computer tablet and was told that I had to sign the "Patient Financial Responsibly" form, and to let the front desk staff know if I had any questions or if I had any concerns since I refused to sign this document originally and also sharing some concerns with the form. I stated to the front desk staff (slender woman with white rimmed glasses and dark hair) that I declined to sign the form due to my healthcare provider representative telling me that I should not sign these forms because of inconsistencies with billing and coding sometimes arising within multiple systems. There was also some verbiage that I did not agree with. For example as it stated; "I understand that if for any reason my insurance company does not pay my bill within 90 days I will be fully responsible for payment". My concern with this was that if there was an error on the Dr.s staff's side, and wasn't resolved within 90 days, I would have to owe, and be responsible for, the full amount according to this form. There were other vague statements in this form I couldn't agree with but overall I was met with immediate opposition, but I wanted to state my case and ask for help with what was in this form that I was signing. I kindly refused to sign the form again, and requested to speak with a financial account manager due to previous medical billing issues that I have had in the past. I was told repeatedly that I needed to sign this form or I could not see the ophthalmologist that I was scheduled to see. I stated again that I would like to speak with the financial manager, but she stated that he wasn't available and that I couldn't speak to a manager. She also would not give me her name. I asked her a hypothetical question of, "what if your financial staff were to bill my insurance, but let's say that they add the wrong codes, or incorrectly billed me for something" she stated that this would be covered by them if they make an error in the system, but I kindly asked if they could show that to me in the document I was refusing to sign. She stated that it wasn't in the document nor in any of the other policies they have. I told her that I could not agree with something like that out of "word of mouth" or spoken verbatim due to the fact that it wasn't in this form. When I asked her if she saw my problem with the form, she asked me to leave or she would call the police. I was surely shocked by this statement and was taken aback by a situation that was clearly escalating for no reason. Just 5 or so minutes ago, she informed me to ask her any questions or concerns that I may have with the forms. Which I did. I tried asking her to stop raising her voice at me because she was getting somewhat upset and hostile towards me. I excused myself to call my healthcare insurance company, and was on the phone for maybe 10 minutes, and finally decided to sign the form when I couldn't get answers from my insurance company. I felt coerced into signing this document, and after having a seat I was told I couldn't see the doctor I was scheduled to see, who specialized in ophthalmology patients who have recently had LASIK surgery. To say this operating is in the business of caring would be a stretch. Its business, and once you are done being moved around from one room to another you feel as if you are at a car dealership. They botched my father's cataract surgery, covered up the fact that Dr. Fair did not properly suture/ close an 88 year olds wounds but to make it worse Dr. Mittlemen showed up to confirm the job was done perfect in Spanish no less. Never met him in all our visits there and the presumption that we did not speak English only made it worse. My father paid 1800 out of pocket instead of $5 because of their hard sell on laser instead of traditional procedure. Called, Emailed, sent letters and had to follow up repeatedly only to be told Too Bad, So Sad. Went in for a basic eye exam to renew my contact rx. Whew. Let me tell you. It took 3 weeks of back and forth plus an FCC complaint to receive. They argued with my old doctor and myself. Would never recommend. Dr Justina is super rude too. Entitled and doesn't care. read more

Absolutely the best and most organized health care experience I've ever had. They are so polite, organized and efficient.
