We chose One Sound because of Mark's killer mixing at a bridal show in Atlanta last fall. The man has serious skills. In fact, we've totally been procrastinating on writing reviews (our plates are full with thank-you notes and other post wedding miscellania), but we were reminded after receiving yet another compliment on how awesome DJ Battle was. The dance party was amazingly fun. We are not easy people to please--our tastes are so all over the place. At one of our initial meetings we tried to explain our love for hip-hop, house, 80s pop, reggeaton, dubstep, salsa, dancehall...you get the idea. In addition, it was important for us to have traditional Jewish elements (the hora) and good old fashion bootyshaking and of course, some fun linedancing. Somehow, DJ Battle was able to pull all of that together. We had a very diverse wedding, but everyone was on the dance floor from the very first song until the last. It was so freaking cool to see so many of our guests, black, white, young, old, all dancing together with joyful exuberance. SO.MUCH.FUN. The lighting was dope too. From our very first conversation, Brian was a true partner who listened to our ideas, showed incredible patience, and dedicated himself to bringing our dream to reality. While he was originally our DJ, we also brought him on to handle our additional venue lighting, and it completely transformed the space. When our guests entered the room, jaws literally dropped. The lighting setup Brian designed complemented the grand scale of the Fox Theatre perfectly, creating an atmosphere that was pure magic. Joel was also punctual to the wedding so he'd have time to set up, meet the wedding coordinator, etc. The lighting was excellent and made it more fun to dance. Not-so-Positives: Without putting all the blame on Joel, for whatever reasons and technical difficulties (software updates), he wasn't able to pull all the right songs, i.e. garter toss. However, it didn't matter much because he improvised and there was a super fun go-stop-groom-crawling game that had the crowd roaring. Then he was able to get the right song and all was good. The one thing that did irk me a little, was this: My sister (who is very, very pregnant and was my maid of honor) approached Joel several times throughout the night for either questions or clarification about a few things, and his responses were not very friendly nor personable. I completely understand that Joel may have been flustered due to the music/software technical difficulties, but I know that he could have been a bit more cordial to her. I'm sure he was just frustrated and to be perfectly honest, everybody was probably a bit stressed all night, but I know it wasn't easy for my sister to have to ask him questions when she had them. We'd met for lunch months before the wedding to discuss our music taste, event, etc. Joel promised a pre-party mix if we sent him a list of stuff we liked, so we did. This never materialized. He then promised to make up for that and this never happened either. When I finally called him the day before the wedding I found that his number was disconnected! I scoured the internet for another number to call but every number for him was the same. I sent him a facebook message since he had been unresponsive to my emails. No word. We had a contract and I had put down a deposit but I had no idea how to pursue him any further. We called Lethal Rhythms Friday afternoon and in two hours Joel connected me with Larry Cook. Larry called me immediately and after our conversation I knew I could breathe easier. The first DJ finally called me the day of our wedding... 15 minutes before our ceremony started. I angrily asked him why I hadn't heard from him and he simply said that "they had been so busy lately". Larry was amazing! Everyone raved about him all night long and he was passing out his business cards by the end of the night. We knew that our friends and family are a fun crowd, but Larry kept them on the dance floor the. entire. night. There was never a lull and everyone had a great time! The only even slightly negative thing that I can say is that Larry is not yet an "emcee". I was fortunate enough that my wedding coordinator was able to step in for this role but I felt like that was naturally part of a DJ's duty for a wedding. Other than that, we were more than pleased!
