If I had an easy child, I am sure it would have been a good program, but my child is a bit challenging but is sweet, smart and well- behaved.. He did ok with the camp. I found out during xylophone class my child was being disruptive the first half of the year and not participating the 2nd half of the year. What really annoys me is that there was no communication with me the Mom. If a student is having trouble for an extended period of time, the parent should be contacted and a plan created. I was told, well its only a 45 minute group class and the teacher is busy. Well, that is unacceptable without proper parent communication, expectations could not be set. My 6 year old now has no interest in instrumental music. Also, during last year's music class i was called to pick up my child because he could not stop crying...Well, turns out he had a small cut near his eye and needed 3 stitches. He was injured by the sharp edge of the whiteboard. Instead of looking at his face, the teacher was annoyed that he was crying. I ended up asking for a partial refund because it was clear that my son was not prepared for the end of the year performance and he is a lot happier now. They also have a draconian refund policy. I understand that this is a school but they are so money hungry that they are inflexible. If you have that perfect child, this school may work well for you. If you have a more mature student this may be the school for you. But beware.

What a disappointment. I went to have my daughter's clarinet corks replaced and when I returned 2…read moredays later, not only were the corks replaced, but pads were replaced as well - the pads, which I didn't order, cost double what the corks cost - so a whopping $113 later, I was more than frustrated. The gentleman, Paul, who I placed the order with, and who was the person I picked it up from, said that I had ordered the pads as well, which I didn't. I wouldn't even know to ask about the pads. When I told him that I didn't order the pads, his response was "well, it will play now", to which I responded with "it played before". There were no apologies, no trying to come to a resolution, nothing. I just had to pay the money. This experience left me feeling ripped off and left me feeling as though their business practice is questionable, if not unethical. A total disappointment.

Roger was very hands-on but not in any way obtrusive. He encouraged me to try every piano, as I was eager to do, and I surprised myself when I fell for the gently used Estonia (a brand with which I had very little experience). He explained the nuances of each instrument and answered all of my questions before I made my decision. An easy sell! Delivery was great (I forget who they used but it was flawless) and Roger spent time at our house tuning it - perfectly. Alas, we ended up deciding to move back to the west coast, but first to a small rental that would not accommodate a grand piano, and we were faced with the prospect of having to sell or store the piano for an undetermined amount of time. Roger's partner, Carol, convinced us not to sell (which we really didn't want to do, anyway) and helped us move the piano into storage. Thankfully, we found our forever home, and ten months since leaving the northeast we have our Estonia back! My seven-year-old daughter has been learning piano with Gene for a year now. I did a great deal of…read moreresearch on group lessons vs. one-on-one lessons and then searched far and wide (for over a year, as I was preparing for the right time to introduce a new activity to my daughter) only to find him a few blocks from my house! I only have positive things to say about him. My daughter was first exposed to the piano through the music class at Chinese school. My daughter would linger by the piano after class, and her teacher, who played the piano during the lesson, mentioned that my daughter might enjoy piano lessons. Because my daughter already exhibited signs of interest, I felt that one-on-one was the way to go. I wanted a teacher who was 1) a little outside of the box, 2) willing to make the experience fun for my child - not too strict and 3) experienced enough to have seen a wide range of students to know what to do for my child if/when she experiences difficulty. Neither I nor my husband play the piano, so if our daughter had problems we wouldn't know if it was the material or the teacher/teaching method/style. With Gene, who has tremendous experience teaching in public schools, I knew that I wouldn't have to worry so much about pedagogy. More recently, when Gene updated his website, I learned that Gene is a graduate of Berklee College of Music which I didn't know when I hired him. I feel very privileged to have him as my daughter's piano teacher. During the first few months, my daughter would come out of the lessons completely exhilarated and bursting with glee. When things started to get harder, Gene was able to help us get through it successfully. Now, my daughter goes to our electronic keyboard on her own. I have to pull her away from the keyboard to get her to school on time and to get her to bed at a decent hour! I'm extremely happy with how my daughter has taken to piano, and I'm very fortunate to have Gene teaching her. Gene is very patient and works with students from where they are. My daughter may arrive to her lesson extremely excited about a new song she learned on her own. Gene will listen and give pointers, and then will redirect her back to the day's lesson. We started doing the lessons by zoom during COVID and we have stuck with zoom ever since by choice - less hassle and I can record the lesson material to practice from. I am awed that my hands can make such beautiful music now! I tried to be consistent - once a week with few cancellations. I originally just wanted to learn embellished folk music but at his gentle prodding I learned to read music and play some classical. Now it's mainly jazz and some Latin and world music.
