Thrive continues to impress after being open for many years…read more I especially love their colorful drink menu showing what goes in each cocktail. Their menu is small plates. Yes they are expensive. But the interior is beautiful, service is always outstanding, and the food has unique twists....Worth it I especially love the crisp rice bites and slider menu. Perfect stop with friends before heading out for the night. It gets too loud on a weekend night for a date but during the week it would make a great date night destination. They wouldn't be my go-to for sushi, but it's not bad either. The only small suggestion I'd love to see, is adding a rotating special cocktail to the happy hour menu. The happy hour drink list is very unimpressive given the normal drink menu

The food was good, the presentation was excellent, and everything was prepared well. The shrimp tempura was crispy and flavorful, and the sushi was a great complement. The highlight of the visit was the cocktail, "This Shit Bananas." It was phenomenal. In fact, our group enjoyed it so much that several of us ended up ordering multiple throughout the meal. One thing I will say is that I personally prefer the atmosphere during dinner service. I visited during brunch, and while I can see the appeal, the atmosphere and music just weren't quite my taste. For me, the dinner atmosphere is more laid-back, relaxing, and enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend the dinner menu as well. Overall, the food was good, the drinks were outstanding, and I would definitely recommend checking this place out. My recommendation would be to visit for dinner if you're looking for a more relaxed dining experience and a great atmosphere.

This was my second visit to Lamp & Shade, and it definitely won't be my last…read more The service was excellent from start to finish, and the atmosphere is exactly what I look for in a night out. The vibe is laid-back, the music is at a good volume, and it's a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks without feeling rushed. To start, we ordered the croquettes and the Caesar salad bites. The croquettes were very good and something I would absolutely order again. The Caesar salad bites, however, completely stole the show. They were insane and are a must-order every time I come back. For our entrees, we ordered the rigatoni and the chicken. This was my second time getting the rigatoni, and it was just as good as I remembered. Rich, flavorful, and easily one of my favorite dishes on the menu. The chicken was also very good and cooked well. That said, if you're looking for a protein entrée, I'd still recommend the tomahawk. My group ordered it on my first visit, and it's still one of the best dishes I've had here. The cocktails were excellent as well. I started with the Forbidden Bloom, which was fantastic. I also tried the Split Personality (Not pictured). It wasn't my favorite, but that's more a reflection of my taste since I'm not much of a whiskey drinker. I've also had the espresso martini on a previous visit, and it was phenomenal. Overall, Lamp & Shade continues to impress. Great service, excellent food, creative cocktails, and an atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Easily one of my favorite spots in the Mills area.

Maybe this place is simply for younger, cooler, hotter people than me. Entirely possible. But I…read morelive in San Francisco, spend time around DJs and nightlife, and am not generally afraid of a loud room. I just apparently still believe that when oysters and $47 pasta appear on a menu, one should be able to hear the person sitting across the table. To be fair, the service throughout the evening was excellent and attentive, and the bourbon drinks ("Filthy Behavior") were genuinely good. We also ordered the croquettes, Caesar salad bites, 12 oysters, the spicy rigatoni with lump crab, golden rice with shrimp, and a discounted prosecco because it was oyster/prosecco Tuesday. The pasta itself was cooked properly, and the golden rice ended up being the least salty thing we ate, which unfortunately made it the standout. Everything else tasted as though the kitchen had recently suffered a tragic misunderstanding involving seawater. At one point we asked if the music was usually this loud because we genuinely couldn't hear each other speak. Our server kindly said she would check on it, but either management said no or the DJ entered a blood oath with the sound system. Conversation had become theoretical. Maybe this is the vibe now. Maybe dining is no longer about the food and meaningful conversation, with lighting so oddly bright--less intimate dinner, more "the club is closing, please locate your belongings"--while paying $220 for two people with automatic gratuity included. For me, the whole experience felt wildly overpriced--ordinary food dressed in extraordinary.

I went in on a late Friday night. I was seated promptly because of my reservation at the bar. The…read morerestaurant is already very cozy, but being seated at the bar gave me a much more intimate experience. My server welcomed me and was great in helping me feel welcome as a solo diner. It was also very entertaining watching her and the other bartender whip up drinks in front of me. I ordered: Kinilaw - This is an elevated and more upscale take on the traditional dish. The hamachi was very fresh and the inclusion of the radish helped provide a change in texture. Despite all the fruit, it wasn't very sweet and the flavors of those and the coconut milk worked very well together. It tastes like kinilaw but it doesn't have the same "punch" or "impact" as the traditional one. But again, this is an upscale version and still tasted great otherwise. Crab Fat Shrimp - Shrimp cooked with a very creamy coconut milk sauce. I ordered this dish with the Sinangag garlic rice instead of having it with collard greens. Eating the shrimp with the rice is a great choice since the rice soaks up so much of the flavor from the sauce and the shrimp. Portion was surprisingly filling. Strawberry Basque Cheesecake - This was the best part of the menu! This portion was so generous and the dessert itself was sweet, but not sugary. The cheesecake was creamy and the roasted strawberries provided some acidity to cut through the richness. I had this with a salabat tea. Hot Salabat Tea - Ginger tea with lemon slices and a honey syrup. I loved how fresh the ginger was and it was a great way to end off the night. It felt very good for digestion. This is an upscale restaurant and therefore prices aren't very cheap. However, this is a restaurant to try at least once, especially for a special occasion.
