I think my parents probably went through 30 or 40 different upholsterers in their time of 45 years of having a shop but around 1980 they discovered the Silva upholstery and it came as a recommendation I believe from Mary Margaret, O'Hara and Catherine O'Hara's mother to my father for this little shop on Dupont close to Dufferin , you don't see it from the street it's an industrial building so over the years he is reupholstered so far from the 1860s for me twice reupholstered a bench reupholstered a shade lounge reupholstered an armchair, reupholstered a pair of chairs reupholstered 45 Ottomans, his work, a second and then at one point, I thought I'm gonna see if somebody's a little cheaper and I found a little cheaper place like $80 cheaper. The finished product was terrible. The quality of the materials that they use the foam for the nails the gimp that anyway it is terrible. I thought it's not worth saving $80 for something that's only gonna last a year with the quality of the goods that they put in. I just picked up another item.(clearly an illness for me.) in my goal of becoming the house of Ottoman, but not a store but if I opened one, I could probably sell an ottoman into a person in a day for a year and then be like OK. I better find some more and all of the Ottomans I get fully redone. He has brand new frames if someone wants to go in and have a sofa made custom in Toronto by a guy who knows how to do it that's where I'd go, but if you're saving an heirloom or saving a great piece of furniture because anything made made in the last 20 years, most of it is garbage disposable furniture saving a piece of well-made hardwood framed furnishings is for those who don't want to waste their money and he's definitely not the most expensive guy in town so I think that he does the best job of any upholstery that I have tried. One of my parents have tried.!

Worst Experience Ever!…read more The first time we went in, when we were unsure as to whether we wanted to use their services, they were the sweetest and extremely attentive. When we came back with our cushions their attitude quickly turned sour. The older woman, I believe the manager, was extremely rude (probably because she knew she had us). We were told a price double the amount of our initial walk-in, we should have turned around and ran. We were then told 3 weeks! Because they don't do any of the sewing on site, not something we were told when we initially went in. Also, we were told we had to leave our cushions there leaving us with no coach for the duration. We FINALLY get a call saying the covers are done and we go pick them up. We get home and they screwed up one of the zippers even though we gave SPECIFIC instructions on how to sew it because it is a custom pillow. We bring it back the next day they are open (Tuesday as they are closed Sunday and Monday) and we are told it could take 2 weeks to fix a mistake they made, the only 'apology' we received was a 'no one is perfect'. 2 weeks passes, no call. I call them, we are told that the cushion is done and that it 'just came in'. Just came in at 3pm on a Saturday? Who are you kidding, lady? I was not born yesterday. We get the pillow home and low and behold the f'd it up AGAIN! I would love to say that I will never go into this store again but looks like I will have to if I want this pillow fixed. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, they are terrible, rude and have no idea what they are doing! Also, they are extremely expensive for all the mistakes they have made that we now have to suffer for. If I could give them a zero star I would.

I am leaving this review on behalf of a relative after they told me about their experience today…read more After spending many hours, on two separate days in their markham location, I was ready to place the order this afternoon. (No problem paying for a quality product, but this felt different) After finalizing the fabric choice, style, size and other details (including the stitching and legs) the price was provided. The price was much higher than expected and I asked as to why it was that high and not the price as discussed on prior visits. Was initially told $5250 for the sofa, then $1800 for leather, plus HST. The final price ended up being well over $8000. When I asked if the price can do any better - the staff member advised that they already did the best that he could. I advised that this is over the expected $8000 price. I requested to think about it, as I would not immediately have the additional funds at this point he offered to split the delivery fee ($150). That was quite a surprise, as he had previously just advised me, multiple times, that he could not adjust the price at all. At this point I requested to not the order number as I would have to seriously consider whether or not the sofa would be purchased. At this point the salesman simply got up and started about his business in the showroom, completely ignoring me and not even acknowledging my departure. The chance of purchasing the item has certainly now lessened after the treatment of the sales staff. A call has been placed with the owner (Bill) to discuss the issue and we will see how it will be addressed - but at this point it certainly is clear that this staff member (and possibly the company) needs to learn to to treat customers with honesty and respect. Hopefully the owner responds to the concerns and he is not the reason that his staff treat perspective customers (not sure how likely that is now) in this manner. Quite shameful the way they acted. I would certainly not send my parents to their shop based on this experience. Will update after / if the owner calls to address what occurred. Certainly hope that they do - it would clearly indicate the true customer service level of the company.
