They've definitely gotten these places down to a science now, which is good if you want to take a fountain Coke Zero with you, which I do. Dining area here is pretty small, but the main dishes are pretty solid in comparison to the other places. They have recently added musubi to the menu, finally, which is great, except it comes in various forms of plastic and is cold, which is a lot less great and sometimes mushes it. This particular place has it in a baggie, which is fine and all well and good, but I generally wind up taking it out of the plastic and putting it on top of whatever I ordered, trying in vain to warm it up at least slightly. Again, this is to varying effect, but I'm glad they have the musubi at all. No furikake on it, but it does seem to have perhaps some sort of blackened seeds on it, sesame I'm assuming. This was my first time trying this place and lots of family recommended it. I wasn't super impressed honestly. I got teriyaki chicken and shrimp tempura, and the person I went with got kalua pork and katsu chicken. The teriyaki chicken was really good, and I really liked that spicy Korean sauce they have. Everything else wasn't great. The shrimp tempura was plain and basic. The kalua pork seemed to have no flavor, and the katsu chicken could use more flavor as well. Well we decided to try the drive thru, and after having the gentleman repeat back the order I was confident they had everything right. After waiting at the pick up window in for what seemed like ages they asked us to pull to the side as the shrimp were taking a little longer. They said they'd bring the food out to us. The food showed up after pulling aside. They forgot several of our items including the shrimp they told us to pull aside for, utensils and the extra sauce we paid for! We had to go back around the drivethru to get everything amended. In spite of having two plates with the same number of proteins, they crammed one into a super tiny container making it almost impossible to eat! Meats grilled and marinated to perfection, well cooked rice and yummy sauces knock this food out of the island park. Bonus: our kids love it! The ekolu feeds all four of us so it's a great bang for our buck! Our go to order is half white and brown rice, teriyaki steak, teriyaki chicken and kalua pig. I was there yesterday, and my experience was beyond my expectations. I got myself a regular plate and asked for their Mac Salad (which is a MUST) for all of my sides, and the guy gave me 5 scoops. Mo Bettahs is my go to "fast food" restaurant. I love the chicken katsu and then steak! The atmosphere is always uplifting and the food is always delicious. I go here often, because the food never disappoints. I need it now that I am thinking about it to. I have never had bad service or bad food here, I have seen the bad reviews about soggy food but I have actually never had soggy food here just fresh crispy and tasty. I won't be back to the Orem location. In my experience the service is annoying. The food is decently cooked. However, too much rice and not as much meat in comparison to Sweet's and L&L (and no noodles). The scale kills me -- as they pick little pieces off to get down to the approved portion amount. Just give us a scoop. I agree with several reviews that the tipping pressure is ridiculous. Sweet's is a far better choice and Sweet's are chill and have noodles! Seems like Mo Bettas lost their soul as they tried to scale and grow to numerous locations. Unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but I won't be back. Two stars is because the flavors are decent. Loss of a couple stars because of long-standing poor service attitudes and the feeling of them being chinchy with portions (ditch the scale). WOW so much good to say about Mo'Bettahs! Most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious. We came with a big group last night and between all of us were able to try just about everything on the menu. All of it was good!! We decided that the best thing you can get, though, is the teriyaki chicken. Their Teri sauce is so tasty you guys! Teriyaki sauce is usually super boring to me but NOT HERE! The prices are great. And they give you SO MUCH food! (Trust me, the mini mix will be plenty.) Their menu is also so simple. It's just so easy to come here. Last but not least, I love the vibe here. It's so upbeat! Disclaimer: I can't tolerate fatty meat. I like meat; I don't like fat. This was my first experience here. My boys have eaten here dozens of times. To say they love it would be an understatement. I had a mini plate with two meats: kalua pork and katsu chicken. The kalua pork was equal parts fat, equal parts meat. Maybe even more fat than meat. Worse, it was nearly inseparable. No bueno. The katsu chicken is deep fried thigh meat. It was tolerable. I've never been a fan of the consistency of thing meat. For whatever reason, it was quite lean - I ate all of it but I didn't love it. It was more about tolerating. My meal was served with Mac salad and white rice on a bed of cabbage. It was all "fine". Not remarkable, just fine. Restaurant was clean. Servers were nice. I want to preface this review by saying that I love Mo'Bettahs. The Lehi location has never done me wrong. The Orem location, however, is a different story. I've been here 4 or 5 times since the location opened. My first couple visits were consistent with how I've been treated in the past. Big portions, good service, great value for the money. The last two trips have made me rethink my relationship with this burgeoning chain. I probably won't return to this location. This is for a few reasons. My go to order is the regular 2-choice. I always get the teriyaki steak and the chicken katsu. It's my go-to order. The last two times I've ordered this combo, it's like the employees are looking for reasons to give me less food. It's always one scoop of mac salad and two scoops rice. Of course, it's hard to get that wrong. The steak is always weighed, I get it, I've owned a food business. Food costs money and weighing it you make sure everyone gets the same amount. I do get an irrational anger when I see them toss a tiny piece of steak back in the container. Like, for real? Less than an ounce? The katsu is where things have gone bad these last couple outings. The regular two choice is ALWAYS two pieces of the katsu chicken. It always has been, always will be. The first time, the employee rooted through the bucket of katsu to pull out the two smallest pieces she could find. Really? Just give everyone what they're paying for. The second time, there was only one small piece of katsu left (along with what I would call a "scrap"). He cut up the piece, then asked if he could get some more. (I was hopeful at this point). He decided rather than wait for fresh pieces that he'd slice up the scrap and call it good. I tried to protest but he either didn't hear me or ignored me completely. Not a great experience. The teriyaki sauce application is NEVER enough for the meat and rice, and if you ask for more sauce (With the regular two choice, three teriyaki and three katsu will cover you) they'll give you attitude if you don't order more than one plate. The service has gone straight downhill at this location. I don't know if they hired a bunch of new people and the training has been inconsistent or what. Go to Lehi or PG where they still give you what you pay for. read more
