The house is located uphill from Lahaina in a residential area which is kinda secluded, serene and quiet but it's a short drive away from the busier part of town. The B&B is adults only which makes for an even more relaxing stay. Our hosts were very helpful and attentive. When we arrived the front doors to the house were open and there was an envelope with a welcoming letter taped to the door for us. We made our way around the house then outside to the gorgeously manicured garden and pool area, and then to our room. I had an initial moment of shock when I realize there was no key to get into the suite and no way of locking our door upon leaving for the day but then I experienced the most liberating feeling when I realized I really didn't need to lock anything, the house is very safe and all of the other guests (which aren't that many since there's only 6 suites) respect each other's privacy and space. There is a safe in the suite however, if you need to store any valuable items. We stayed in the Kohola suite which was one of the two rooms with a view. Besides the amazing views (especially the sunset views which you may enjoy from your private lanai, from your bed or even while you shower!) the suite had a very comfortable bed, lots of comfortable pillows, an outside shower, a nice ivory stone tub, a small fridge and an electric kettle along with tea and instant Starbucks coffee. Due to COVID the continental breakfast is provided individually for each room as opposed to buffet style. We were asked to fill out a form the night before with our requests of items such as toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, etc and our hosts would have breakfast ready for us at our requested time. We usually had breakfast by the pool but you can certainly take the tray to your room if you'd prefer a bit more privacy. Also due to COVID, they were not providing scheduled daily housekeeping service which was no bid deal, especially since if we needed any extra towels, coffee or toiletries all we needed to do is let Dan or Amy know and they would take care of it. We were also able to borrow beach chairs and a beach umbrella for the day, they were available on a first come first serve basis. Definitely recommend staying at the Ho'oilo house if you're looking for a stress free, serene, relaxing vacation.

What was important for me was a quiet location with easy parking, comfortable surroundings and a kitchen. The beach was a block away and I was close to old historic Lahaina and the resorts at Kaanapali. The staff including Tanna, Christine, Barbara and others were all wonderful, warm personable people. They are what makes this place special and they offer value added services such as car rentals and more. Bedrooms have refrigerators so you can store your leftovers or pies that you purchased down the road at Leoda's Pie and Kitchen or fresh banana bread. If you want to do stargazing, all you need to do is walk up to their upper deck, find something to sit on and look up at the stars.

You have the option of renting the entire property or an individual unit. For about the price of a nicer hotel, you get the creature comforts of home, privacy and quite as well. My girlfriend (ex) and I went here and Jim and Kim Wicker, who run the place and live downstairs, were perfect hosts and even lent us a tour CD that guided us along the infamous Road To Hana. Sure there are hotels right on the beach, but you wont have to dodge screaming kids running through the halls dripping from the pool or ocean, or worry about noise from shared walls. Instead you get peace and comfort. You may also get surprise fresh made treats now and then, that Kim bakes up and leaves for you on the counter after cleanup. Wai Ola is plenty close to everything. You're about 1/2 mile from the ocean and all the Lahaina hot spots. If you plan on going to Lahaina, Maui Hawaii, Try this place and you'll be very pleased. You definitely need a car if you are going to stay there, it is close to everything but not really within walking distance of anything. The cost was great; it was about the price of a hotel, but you get a pool, use of laundry facilities, you can borrow the coolers and beach stuff they have, and you get fresh baked treats. The only caveat is they have an extensive list of rules, and the owners can come across a little snarky in the enforcement of them. Like the pool can only be used at this time and that time, or you can't put stuff on the chairs by the pool, or the laundry hours are from this time to that time. They do it to create a relaxing and enjoyable environment for all the guests, and it works, but I think if they were just a bit less rigid and militant, people would still mind the rules and they wouldn't seem so aggressive. Overall it's a great alternative to a hotel, and if you like to buy your own food and plan your day according to your needs, not those of a hotel, this is the place for you. Star Market supplied the lau lau and poke, we borrowed some movies from Kim and Jim, and stayed in one afternoon, a welcome break from the activity on our 10 day Hawaii honeymoon. It's a good place to stay. Check it out.

The only minor downside was noise from upstairs, we could hear footsteps/furniture or suitcases being moved fairly clearly. One of our favorite touches was the "Aloha Room," which was so thoughtfully equipped with water, snacks, hot water, a microwave, and even sunscreen..details like this really set the inn apart. We were also fortunate to host a small dinner onsite, and the ambiance was truly stunning - intimate, elegant, and quintessentially Maui. Every single guest staying at the inn commented on how much they loved their room, which speaks volumes. Breakfast each morning was lovely, and Lupe, the housekeeper, was incredibly attentive and kind throughout our stay. What truly elevated the experience, however, was the level of service. I was in the Papaya Suite and definitely plenty of space, with a separate bedroom, kitchen bathroom, and the living room! And did I mention, the great breakfast food and other snacks in the provided basket as well as fresh fruit, cereal, milk and other items inside the refrigerator and freezer? Definitely saved me time and money from having to drive to the nearest bakery or market! Yes, this is a real Bed & Breakfast and definitely worth every dollar! There are three other suites available for booking and there is usually no minimum stay required except during certain times of the year like the holiday season or special local events, for instance. Also, guests are offered a 10% discount if they pay in check/cash versus charging to their credit/debit card, and I opted to provide Eva with the check. You will also find two common areas, and one of them is right outside the Papaya Room on the ground level where there are other tables, chairs, and a BBQ. The other common area is upstairs on the lanai, where there are more tables and chairs, and ultimately a lovely view of Kihei and the West Maui Mountains! It was easy to feel at home within the first few minutes after settling in. Eva was easily accessible for questions about the island/ local recommendations and was more than accommodating for our breakfast options (fresh local fruit, pastries, coffee, etc.). There was also onsite laundry, swim gear, and sunscreen/mosquito repellent. Whatever Eva was managing with guests, we also observed that Jim kept up with quick repairs/maintenance on the property. My partner's favorite part of this stay was the fruit and their dogs!!! I too loved their fur babies in addition to the view from the second floor deck (phenomenal during sunset). We are truly impressed with the hospitality and welcome that these seasoned hosts provided.

It is located almost at the center of Lanai City downtown, 5 minutes' walk from Hotel Lanai, right by Dollar rent a car. We absolutely loved staying here. The Innkeeper Isabelle did a great job, preparing very good breakfast and keeping a great company. There are 4 bedrooms in the house. Noise level depends on who you are sharing the house with. If you are traveling with family and rent the whole house $516.00/night, you don't need to worry about strangers' noise. We had 2 perfectly quiet nights and rest was ok noise. There is no Kamaaina discount for this B&B but price is reasonable $129/night. They do not charge for unlimited Shuttle Service. You need to deal with the Shuttle directly. WIFI available but the connection is slow. I think only Four Seasons Hotels on the island has good connection. Main road is right there. You might want to choose the back room to avoid traffic noise - which is never heavy.

It's not a beach resort but there are already plenty of those around Maui and this place offers something unique and special. The best part of this place is how incredibly private it is, there are no other tourists around. Arabella is a lovely and gracious hostess who is quite interesting to talk to. There are a few minor problems...lots of gnats in the bathroom, a toaster oven that only half works, a very excitable puppy (who Arabella is happy to restrain if she gets too rambunctious), and a lack of a stove/oven. Still, there is a functioning propane grill, a rice cooker, and a microwave so it's possible to make a tasty meal for yourself on the premises, just do come prepared. These are actually relatively minor problems, I highly recommend this space and will definitely come back next time I visit Maui.

What: its a huge room/house/wing devoted to a comfortable king bed with wall to wall windows on 2 sides of the wall. There is also a large shower for two and lastly, a sweet little solar powered stove with 2 burners and small refrigerator. Where: Its 10 miles past Hana town. Remote and peaceful and wander the grounds swing on the swing, take a dip in the outdoor tub. You can stay in bed and watch the sunrise and or set. When: We went in August and it rained every day (we just happened to be there in a big storm) but you can sit outside and eat your meal and not get a drop on you. How: To make the most of your time at the Hana Bed & breakfast bring dinner(s). Once you get to there its a long 10 mile drive back to the town - seriously it will take you 30-45 min. Why Go: Literally if you get up early you will be the first on the trail at 'Ohe'o Gulch aka "Seven Sacred Pools" or to the Bamboo Forest which is on the way to the 400-foot Waimoku Falls! Plus, again the room is a honeymoon-like retreat! We went on from here to the west side of the island and stayed at a fancy resort. But this place to stay is our best memory of Maui!

This was, by far, our favorite. Located away from it all on the South Shore of Maui this Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay after driving the Road to Hana. It is just a few miles from the Seven Sacred Pools and Haleakala National Park. The room is very clean and features a gorgeous bathroom with a giant shower. There are plenty of extra blankets, towels, books, guides, beach equipment, and bottles of water. There is a deck off of the room with chairs and a small kitchen. It was lovely being able to cook and eat under so many bright stars. Sam and her daughter Mercury are both very kind, hospitable, and offer excellent advice on things to do and routes to take driving. Mercury sells jewelry, so be sure to bring some cash with you. I purchased a gorgeous necklace for my mother in law from her. All in all this was definitely our favorite place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Hawaii. We look forward to returning one day.
