Major termite infestation! Flying termites are attracted to light at night. Take precautions so you don't bring these lovely creatures home. $25 per night resort fee. I must have missed the pool, spa and hot stone massage. The AC in the room sort of worked. The valet was off, so we self-parked. The on-site restaurant is ?permanently? closed. Eat in "town". For a hotel built over 50 years ago, there is still so much pride that goes into this very quaint hotel. Definitely a place of retreat with just enough of what you need to find peace, comfort and relaxation. My room was very clean from ceiling to floor. I enjoyed the restaurant called Hiro's Ohana Grill, but note that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. I didn't get to swim in the pool but it was calling out to me. Hammocks near the ocean. We thought we would have beach access, but didn't. Our room was overlooking the beach and pool. The couple we were traveling with had a room that I questioned as their toilet was leaking around the floor seal, which they quickly came to fix. Their room had a loft, but the stairs were near the kitchen and several people hit their limbs or heads on them. Their slider door going to the deck was really hard to open or close, if you have a disability, like arthritis or strength issues would not recommend. Cooking was a challenge as the fuse box would trip. Numerous feral cats on the property as well as chickens. Staff very friendly and accommodating. read more

My dad was staying here for work during the recent tsunami threat. Once the alarms went off, he called the front desk to inquire about evacuation procedures. Someone picked up and abruptly hung up the phone. He walked to the front desk/lobby area and no hotel employees could be found. He and his workers didn't know where to go. Luckily some locals across the street advised them. I understand the situation was an emergency but this was unacceptable. read more

We picked Molokai just because it's an island we hadn't been to. Really glad I did. It is so mellow, and I don't think I've ever been this relaxed. Hotel Molokai is a great place to chill. It has these cute cottages that are Hawaiana and a pool and a great restaurant. There's also a sundries shop and an excursion desk. Like the rest of this island, this place is super mellow. Just quiet with beautiful grounds and some really lovely, soft live music in the restaurant next door every night. We really enjoyed our stay here and will book here again when we return to Molokai. read more

The hotel is very dated, desperate for a remodel. Our room was a bit battered, make sure you pick up food on the way in as there is NO RESTAURANT either on or near the hotel. You best rent a car or you are stuck here and Sundays everything is closed. You are glamping here, so be prepared! Overall a lovely place, beautiful kind locals , bring a good book! I thought the Hotel Molokai was charming. There are only a couple of options on Molokai, and some Air B&B's or condo rentals to chose from. We had garden view rooms, and they came with small balconies with patio tables and chairs, and since they were upper floors, kitchenettes. The rooms had coffee service, wine glasses, and some pots and pans for cooking, which would have been helpful with a longer stay. The upper rooms do not have AC. They have sliding patio doors and the top half of the room is open screened, with ceiling fans. It was a little warm, but manageable. The pool is small, but nice, and sunset by the beach was lovely. The wifi is terrible, and cell service a little spotty. I'd plan on this being an unplugged stay, with hiking and relaxing by the pool or in the hammocks at the beach, but you probably should not plan on Netflix on your personal devices. The restaurant was quite good, but they recommend reservations. There are some nice looking dinner options in town, or if you have a longer stay, grab some groceries and take advantage of the little kitchen and make some snacks and sandwiches. When we checked in, the staff put us in lower floor rooms, and then called and had us move to the upper floor, which was a little annoying. They said they were too full for us to keep the first rooms we were in. The upper rooms were larger, and I guess cost less due to the lack of AC. We could have fit our entire families into the rooms for less than $200/night, which was pretty cool. Note that the property is run by a highly vocal gang of chickens who start vocalizing around 3 AM. With all of the windows open, you can't really avoid hearing them, but you probably don't have concrete plans for the morning anyway, since it's a pretty low key island, so I'd recommend ear plugs or just rolling with it. It's Hawaii, those little stinkers are everywhere. I'd really like to return for a proper stay and hiking in the forested part of the island! read more

One of the very few hotels you'll find on Molokai, and my first time staying here in August 2021 was a pretty good and decent experience overall. The rooms are decent and clean, plus you get free calls from their in-room phones given how poor the cell signal is throughout the Friendly Isle. Parking is included, and there is an on-site restaurant (didn't check it out however, as I preferred to go to the nearby Kaunakakai Town's eateries instead). My only real complaint is the wireless internet and the fact that it's "integrated", meaning that none of the rooms have their own individual router, plus the Wi-Fi signal wasn't all that great either and dropped out at times. read more

In fairness, if Yelp allowed half-star ratings I would give this place a 2.5 -- 2.0 may be a bit harsh, but I just can't bring myself to call this place okay. The way the management handled a major issue with my room was pretty much a deal-killer as far as getting a decent rating, and there were other issues as well. On the plus side, it's an attractive property, with the rooms contained in woodsy, cabin-like buildings (though not actual cabins) scattered around nicely landscaped grounds. The pool is large and well-maintained, and the restaurant is a nice outdoor dining space, although I didn't try it because the menu looked pretty pricey. The front desk staff are pleasant and try to be helpful. My room, no. 103, was unimpressive for $281 + tax per night. The mattress was good, but the furnishings and decore were kind of random and cheap. The usual amenities were present -- small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker -- and worked properly. But there was one big problem and a couple smaller annoyances. The room's windows consisted of three tall, narrow sets of louvered panes (also known as jalousie windows). Someone had the bright idea that if they made the windows of frosted glass, they wouldn't have to bother with shades or curtains. WRONG. The grounds are brightly lit at night, and directly across from me were 2 big floodlights, one of which was aimed right at my room. As a result, when I turned my lights off at night, the room was still nearly bright enough to perform surgery -- bright enough that I had trouble getting to sleep. The next morning I asked at the front desk what might be done about this, and the desk clerk said she needed to check with her boss. I didn't expect an instant installation of shades or curtains, since no curtain rods were present, but I thought they might offer to move me to a less-bright room or compensate me some other way. Ha! The clerk came back to say that all they could do was give me a couple pool towels that I could cram into the louvers to create makeshift blackout curtains. That was it -- not even a complimentary drink at the hotel bar to make up for my trouble. Seriously? At these prices? The towels did help, though putting them up was a minor pain every night (and of course housekeeping took them when they cleaned the room, so I had to replace them), but this was such a chicken**** solution -- and I can't have been the first person to ever complain about this. My bathroom was weirdly spartan and had 2 smallish annoyances: There was no tub, just a open big shower with no enclosure. I suppose some think this kind of shower is stylish, but this wasn't an attempt at upscale decore -- the thing looked like it came from a Motel 6 in desperate need of renovation. And even with judicious use of the wand showerhead, there was no way to avoid splashing water on the toilet and floor that were right nearby. The bathroom had an unusually low ceiling -- a bit under 7' -- and because some idiot decided that a large light fixture should go above the mirror, the mirror was positioned so low that anyone over 5' tall (I'm 6'1") has to stoop in order to see themself in the mirror. This is such a simple problem to solve: Just put the light fixtures on the sides of the mirror instead of above, allowing the mirror to be moved up a foot. This could be a really nice place if the management cared. It's apparent that they do not. P.S. After my stay I got an automated text asking me to rate my stay on a 1-5 scale. I texted back, "2.5 -- see my upcoming Yelp review for details." I got an immediate response saying they'd escalate this to the management because my feedback was very important. That was yesterday, and I haven't gotten a followup yet. read more

Hotel Molokai is an absolute joke. Most of the reviews here are probably fake and done by locals. Here's some of the facts of my stay: 1. The lead receptionist at the front desk will have a terrible attitude upon your arrival as well as for your entire stay. She will treat you like a tourist, and if I had to guess, is probably racist (against Caucasian people) as a handful of Hawaiians are (especially a handful on the island of Molokai). Some seem to think that because I am white I had something to do with the overthrow of their kingdom before I was born. This same receptionist has a job in service sector. If you're reading this, do yourself a favor, don't work as a hotel receptionist if you're going to treat tourists as outsiders and have a bad attitude. 2. The rooms are not even close to as nice as the absurd price they are charging. Some of them are not air conditioned, there's bugs and roaches in the rooms, there's no black out curtains, and the rooms are extremely small. Some of our rooms had lofts where you could not even stand in your bedroom. 3. A lot of their ocean front rooms are on the second floor. That is not ocean front. The ocean view from this hotel is a dirty brown at all times. Literally 24/7. 4. The manager is never available. Good luck getting in touch with him. I asked for a late check out 2 FULL days before we were supposed to check out (asked for a simple 12PM instead of 10AM). The "manager" calls me at 09:15AM on check-out day and says no citing "operations". I finally got in touch with him at check out and frankly he basically could care less about his guests (catering to his cleaning staff over his guests). He will do whatever he can to take your money and then do whatever to get you out of the rooms as soon as possible. He had his staff start to call my room at 10:15AM on the day of check out to get us pushed out the door on a Sunday (when he admitted there was no occupancy in the rooms for Monday). This is after leasing 3 rooms from him, paying him over $5000, dining in his restaurant 3 times with 9 people (with average food at best), and staying for 5 nights. 5. Every morning at 5AM, the sun will blare in your room from the east and if that doesn't wake up early, the hundreds of ROOSTERS on the property will be sure to wake you up. Beware: Unfortunately, Molokai has very few hotel options so Hotel Molokai basically has a monopoly on the island and they take full advantage of it. Bottom Line: They want your money. They know they are the only act in town. Once they get your money, you'll feel like you were ripped off and in a rotating door. They talk down to you. Don't stay here. read more

Small and dark hotel room for over $200 per night. No phone signal, the hotel Wi-Fi worked poorly. The Ohana grill restaurant Wi-Fi is not allow to be given to guests. Be aware of the daily resort fee of $10 dollars. The pool is the size of a regular bath tube times 4. The room is less than 200 SF. At 3am, I woke up by the strong smell of manure, then kept awake by the car noises. The coffee creamer seemed to have expired years ago, it was suppose to be powder creamer , but the powder had combined in to a piece of hard sheet. The bed sheets are not comfortable, the 4 pillows, they are all too high. Same hotel room can be booked on VRBO or Airbnb for half price instead. The hotel shuttle can take you to town that's 2 miles away, but Doreen, who operates separately and independently from the hotel, charges $5 dollars per person to ride her van, for a family of 4, that will be $40 dollars. Doreen also offers airport pick up and drop off for. $50 dollars Cash Only round trip. But make that you confirm and reconfirms with her. read more

There simply aren't many options on Molokai for where to stay. There are a handful of condos and rentals around the island, but the largest hotel is this one. They offer kama'aina specials on the website, but many of the rooms are privately owned and are for rent through various online apps. The hotel is located on the south shore of the island, a few miles outside of Kaunakakai. It's a quick drive from the town, but not walkable. The hotel offers shuttle service from the airport for $25, or it's an easy drive with free parking for a rental car. The hotel is a number of bungalow type buildings, many single story with a few double. Each building has the name of a Hawaiian island. The grounds are kept amazingly green and well manicured. There are trash and recycling bins around the property. The lobby has a few tour desks and a gift shop. In the center courtyard is an ice machine and vending machine. Guest restrooms are in the main building along with Hiro's Ohana Grill (see my other review). They have a wonderful pool, beach access (no swimming here), and hammocks both on the beach and in the courtyards. This is the kind of hotel that if you're looking for a relaxing weekend, you may never want to leave! Rooms are older but cozy and comfortable. Each room has a lanai with a table, perfect for spending time outdoors. At night, there are a lot of flying insects, so be prepared for that. The property is small and easy to walk around. I stayed here from March 17-21 and had a delightful and relaxing time. Although I've stayed here 18 years ago, this time the rooms were light, bright, clean, and well kept. Sleeping right next to the ocean was so nourishing for my soul. Waking up to the beautiful ocean views looking over towards the island of Lanai was the perfect way to start my days and journal. Dinner at the hotel was delicious too. Their fresh salads are excellent portions, I really liked their shrimp scampi, and they have an excellent selection of wine. The general manager of the hotel, Michael Drew, was exceptionally professional and accommodating and made sure each guest was well taken care of. If you need a little or a lot of relaxing time this place will definitely sooth your soul. The hotel was built in 1968 but is well cared for. The rooms are clean and comfortable and they had REAL pillows!!!! the grounds are peaceful and nicely maintained. Hiro's restaurant has a varied menu and everything I have eaten there is very good. I have been there several times in past visits and the food and view never disappoints. The icing on the cake is Hawaiian music at the restaurant. The nights we have gone there was classic Hawaiian music not reggae, country or rock and roll. When I watch a beautiful Hawaiian sunset and I want the music to match. The staff is friendly and helpful and do anything they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. read more

It is what it is, a cute hotel on the waters edge that makes you feel like you're on Fantasy Island or some through back to the 60's and 70's of ticky tacky postcard scene of old Hawaii that used to be. It's a complement and not a swipe at the hotel style. We really enjoyed our stay there along with the layout, room, as well as friendly staff. The hotel is perfect for those that want to get away, do nothing but relax. Read a book by the pool or while take an afternoon nap in a hammock are about the most lively things going on there except for the chickens on the property. The rooms are clean and have just the right immensities to make for a comfortable stay. There is a restaurant on the property that serves lunch and dinner, but only does breakfast on the weekends. There is also a bar attached to the restaurant if you want to sit and relax before dinner. I highly recommend making reservations for dinner as it does get busy and seating is limited. The lobby staff were all very pleasant as well as the maid and grounds staff. Everyone smiled when you walked by, which was very nice to see. It's small hotels like this that can show real Aloha verses the big resorts that train their staff to be fake. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights and wouldnt have done it any differently. Remember you are on Molokai-so set expectations accordingly and go with the flow. As the only hotel in Molokai, and centrally located near town its the perfect place to land and get acclimated to the island. We stayed in a second floor unit with a lanai and a loft. Some of these units are the hotel, others are privately owned and you can find them on airbnb. The grounds are meticulous. There are chickens and roosters roaming about. The pool is small but near the ocean and restaurant. The unit was okay. It had a galley kitchen that was pretty well stocked. The unit had sooo much furniture which made it feel smaller than it was. It also is pretty dated and could use some updates. The stairs to the loft (where there were 2 twin beds) is not kid friendly. However the loft is really only suitable for small kids since it has a very low ceiling. The lanai was very nice. There are some mosquitos so bring mosquito spray. Our unit had some road noise (but it looks like all accomodations near town and further east sits in the narrow strip between the road and the water) so same issue for all lodging. We did a day driving to murphys beach to snorkel and to halawa park. Recoomend!! Great scenic drive with some fun stops along the way. Note that the hotels restaurant is closed monday and tuesday. Also wifi is pretty spotty and cell phone coverage not great either. The oceanside restuarant was expensive but pretty good and has a great view. Again great place to get acclimated, check out the east side of the island, get groceries etc and then i recommend going to west side of the island because thats where you will find the drop dead gorgeous beaches of your dreams! read more

Every time I come to Molokai, I come to Hotel Molokai and eat a meal with my grandfather. The service is always great - the hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming. Molokai is such a small island that at least one person would recognize my grandfather and start talking stories with him - which is wonderful!! I didn't stay here but the hospitality is wonderful. Today, I came here to support a family friend's daughter who was dancing hula at the hotel for a cruise. The equipment worked well, seating arrangements were setup nicely so everyone can watch the performance easily, refreshments were readily available for the guests, and the weather was beautiful - not too hot and not too cold. The hotel has a great view of the beach and can easily see Lanai from Hiro's Restaurant and Bar :) read more

Depending on your unit location, you might hear some street noises, and you might even hear your neighbors (so that means they can probably hear you). The unit I was in had an outside seating area, and a sliding screen door. The hot water takes some time to kick in, so remember to heat it up for a bit. It took nearly 10 minutes to warm up in the morning. The staff are super friendly and although the bar closes at 9pm, you can take a drink to go back to your room at the end of the night. When I asked about the smell, the staff apologized and said sometimes it gets really bad and you can smell it in the restaurant. I was jolted awake by the smell, and had to quickly decide: do I open the windows and hope it blows out, or do I seal the windows up and wait the smell out with out air conditioning. I chose the first option, and luckily the smell blew out within a half hour or so. Live music in the evenings, and if you are lucky you might get a hula show as well. Great little place, next time I'll ask for something on the West side of the property. read more

I did not know what to expect from Molokai hotel and was just happy to have a bed and shower... because we were ready to camp out if there is no hotel available there... To our surprise, the hotel is quaint and clean... We got the one bed bungalow by the beach... The room has basic stuff, comfy queen bed, clean bathroom with bath and body work supply... We love the quite beach and view of Lanai island from our room... Had breakfast at the hotel restaurant with great local food! You are not going to get five star facilities here... There is no spa, no shopping malls or gourmet restaurants here... But I'm sure you don't come to Molokai for these treatments... You come here to experience old school Hawaiian, layback styles, quite time... We enjoyed our stay here and will definitely come back! read more

Roosters woke me up every morning at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, etc. The hotel lets them multiply and run free. Stay as close to the ocean as possible to help drown them out if you have to stay at this hotel. I will not be returning. read more

Hotel Molokai is a laid back hotel which gives you an old 50's-60's vibe. Definitely not upscale but that's the drawl for us. Staff is friendly, warm, and welcoming. Views from the hotel grounds are beautiful, although the beach area is not conducive for snorkeling or swimming. Decent pool on the hotel grounds. Gorgeous views of the neighboring island of Lanai. Bar and restaurant have decent dinners, good pupus (appetizers), and drinks. Live music definitely adds to the ambiance. Our room had AC (thank goodness), and although was "dated", it was clean and had everything we needed. We would definitely come back for another visit. read more

Hotel Molokai is such a special place. It has an old Hawaiian feel and friendly staff. The room was comfortable with a nice bed, linens, AC and cute porch. The hotel has an activity desk where you can book excursions, rent beach chairs and snorkel gear. There is a great restaurant and bar right on the water with nightly entertainment. The pool was small and could use some updating but other then that this place is great and reminded me of my childhood days in Hawaii. I would stay here again. read more

As you drive along the ONE main road on Moloka'i, you will see a sign that says, "Visit. Spend. Go home." Upon seeing that, I thought, "This might not be 'The Friendly Isle' after all." I was wrong. From the moment we walked onto this property, we got nothing but stellar service. We went to the Front Desk to see if we could leave our bags in a secure area until the afternoon "check in" time. The woman was super friendly and said, "Sure." Then, she made a phone call. By the time we hauled our bags from the car to the lobby, the woman said, "Your room is ready." To us--and we have traveled all over the world--this was amazing! She even told us where to park, so we'd be a mere 25 steps to our room. Our room was clean and fully equipped. It even had a well-appointed kitchenette with a stove, a microwave, and a refrigerator that was not filled with overpriced drinks. It was empty and ready for our use! There was even a lanai outside. During our stay, I would learn that fish jumped right outside our front door in the morning, the pool was about 10 steps from our room (but the building structure meant we were not bothered by noise), and a wonderful restaurant was on the other side of the pool. Whether it was a cleaning person, a waitress, a bartender, or a store clerk, the personnel at the Hotel Moloka'i rivaled the ones at some of the best hotels in Italy and Scotland, where we have blessed enough to stay in prior travels. read more

I could not sleep at the hotel because the roosters SCREECH all night long- especially 4-7AM!! I talked with the staff, but they could not remedy the situation as the roosters are all over the property. I asked to talk with the manager daily, but the manager would not talk with me until I was about to check out. Worst hotel ever. Do not stay here, the beach collects seaweed that rots and smells like a latrine, 24/7. Had to move from our "ocean front" room to the road to get away from the horrible smell. the onsite store is closed, the onside private restaurant is closed, but wait....there is a prom tonight. So let's go to a restaurant in town, well guess what! No one is open on Monday night. So I get to sit in a crappy smelling room, being harasser by roosters and chickens who shit on my patio and smell the crap of the sea! What a wonderful vacation. read more

Loved our stay at Hotel Molokai ! Room 218 Is the best room if u have 4 kids and 2 adults . The room is at the end so we were conveniently parked in front of our room. The kitchen was great for cooking when we didn't eat out not to mention it has everything you need to cook and utensils so u just need to stop by friendly market for groceries.Short walk to the pool and the Bar is by the pool where we enjoyed some lava flows (thanks to the beautiful bartender for introducing it ) while the girls swam . Great room ! Clean and big balcony that has a big table and chairs where the kids all sat around and ate and played cards. It was my second time staying here and this time was even better than the first due to the bar and restaurant being open . Last stay it was still under construction. The staff is friendliest I've experienced and that's another reason I will go back. Usually hit the beach when we visit but the girls loved the pool so we ended up at the pool every day .
