    The platter that has everything!

Holy. Molllllllllyyyyyyyy! Why isn't this on the "MUST VISIT TO EXPERIENCE TRUE CAJUN CULTURE" list?! I don't know. It's literally in the middle of no where...so when you first pull up, you might be questioning why in the heck you drove out to the middle of no where?! Well as soon as you walk inside, you'll understand! First of all, it's family run -- farm to table (from their own farming!). How cool is that?! Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a family, a darling married couple and one of their precious children! Our bartender was Otis, one of the kids, and he was so entertaining, attentive, and fun the whole night! The drinks were stellar! Try the pink frozen drink -- not too sweet, but strong with a gentle flavor! The food was so good -- we pretty much tried one of every appetizer...and I've never had anything as dreamy or unique as those crawfish patties! We ordered a platter with shrimp, crawfish, and king crab -- everything was huge, tender, and peeled like magic! The seasoning is perfection. There's no better boiled seafood in all of Lousiana. Please, someone fight me about it. And I've had the "best" -- as far south of the gulf -- and this little place (which you think would look like a janky hole in the wall, but is actually the most adorable, clean, and cute restaurant bustling with guests)... this little place in Mowata...well they win hands down!!!!!! Can't wait to go back!

Crawfish were super clean. Seasoned and cooked absolutely perfect! Boiled shrimp & crab legs were divine. Mozzarella bites, crawfish cakes and especially the margaritas went down EASSSSYYYYY

5lbs of crawfish, with the fixins.

We were in the area and wanted fresh crawfish. We decided to go with yelp reviews. This place is really cool on the inside. Neat stuff on the walls. Really well thought out. If not a bit small, when the rush hits. The staff is friendly and helpful. We started out with the crab cakes. Omg! So good! Then went with 5 lbs of crawfish to share. The seasoning is good, not salty. The crawfish were SO CLEAN....for those of you that like them, you know how important that is! Really good size, but the shells were so hard. Just that time of season, I think. The only other thing was, I like them soaked a bit more to get more seasoning taste. They go thru a lot quickly. So that might not be possible. We were actually asked to move tables after we had placed our order, as a big group had came in. A small inconvenience, but we were thanked and asked if we wanted a complimentary side of mushrooms and sausage. Very nice touch! The mushrooms were good, sausage not so much. The were brought out in a bowl, already sliced up, instead of links. Which had made them very dry and tough. All in all, a good experience. Oh and you get a free beer cuzie with your beer! Not much better than that!

    The gracious owners and us!

About as good as it gets. Select crawfish, boiled perfectly. The other food is great too but who would skip on this place's crawfish??

After leaving Baton Rouge heading west on I-10 the traffic situation deteriorated quickly as I…read moreapproached the Atchafalaya Basin due to an accident and I knew I needed to find an alternative route or risk sitting in traffic for hours. I took the Route 411 exit and headed towards Frogmore to catch Highway 190 through the heart of Cajun Country - there is so much to see and memories to reflect upon traveling this historic route, to most it might seem somewhat boring but the sugar cane, rice fields and crawfish farms are beautiful in my eyes. This part of Louisiana still has my heart and still represents the culture I still cherish and is home to the people I love. The scenic drive across the Atchafalaya River at Krotz Springs through Opelousas brings you to Eunice a community built on tradition where contracts are still sealed with a handshake and you always get greeted with a hug and a kiss. It would be impossible for me to drive through here without stopping for some boudin or cracklins so where better to go get some authentic Cajun cuisine than at the Eunice Superette on a Saturday morning. This place never disappoints the delicious smells of something cooking in the back surrounds you as you walk through the doors and that all familiar sound of that glorious Cajun Music piped throughout the store makes it impossible not to smile and puts a little two step in your gait. Taking a tour of the meat case is a tour you'll likely never forget, most of the offering are seasoned, stuffed and smoked and the aromas permeates the glass case it seems. The meats here are butchered locally with great care, the cuts are traditional and not something you'll find at most retail groceries outlets. Today my interest is in the fresh hot cracklins a little snack for the road - this uniformly chopped pork belly is like nothing else on the planet the fat is rendered down until the finish product is crispy then covered in a spicy cajun seasoning and placed in a small brown paper sack its absolutely delicious- my dad made these at home long before they became a delicacy fetching twenty dollars a pound. The staff here was so friendly and probably family, always providing more than you'd ever expect and always a greeting with a big smile and a goodbye with a "take care now". There are somethings you hope will never change and this is one of those treasures that still feels like it did when I was a kid. This is what a hometown business should feel like...

It originally was a historic bar, but has…read morechanged over the years and is now a homey eatery that has expanded into the next-door buildings. I guess it is worth mentioning that the establishment has operated under different names. It was originally Nick's, but at one point it was run as Ruby's Restaurant and Courtyard. Ruby's is still in business, but is now operating back at their original location around the corner on Walnut. You may find that the reviews and pictures for these two locations are somewhat mixed up on Yelp for this reason. Now Nick's is back to its original name, and is still going strong. The space Nick's occupies is indeed historic, and is located on the redeveloped 2nd Street with many other nice local businesses. The main section includes the old wooden bar from Nick's, as well as a beautiful high-ceiling dining area. However, the establishment has expanded into the other buildings next door, which includes their large and very nice restrooms. While you visit these, check out the collection of historical photographs of Eunice that are displayed in this hallway. The food at Nick's is indeed a fine example of Eunice home style cooking. Prairie Cajun cuisine often features rice & gravy based dishes that fill the stomach and sooth the soul. These involve a variety of stewed, roasted, or fried meats, and a couple of home-style vegetables. Plate lunches also usually include a small salad and dessert. It is a filling repast! If one wishes, there is a menu offering salads, sandwiches and Po-Boys, and other succulent selections. Seafood selections are of course available... A excellent thing about choosing to dine at Nick's is one can stroll over to the National Park Service's Jean Lafitte Prairie Cajun Cultural Center afterwards, or an ice cream and yogurt shop, or a excellent coffee shop, or go shopping in one of the local boutiques. It is a great place to be in Downtown Eunice.
