This place is awesome. Super friendly folks and airstrip onsite makes it a convenient stop for pilots.

    Blackened Oysters
    Mark C.

Absolutely outstanding food. The owner was very responsive on Facebook and happens to be a fellow pilot. He had recommendations of the blackened oysters which are insane and could probably finish 3-4 orders as an entree. Also had the BBQ crabs, and wife had the Bangin BBQ shrimp! It was all gone by the time we got done with it. The best part is if you're a pilot with a plane, there's a nice parking area adjacent to the car parking lot west of the north end of the grass runway. That runway is easily one of the best grass runways I've landed on. Very smooth and manicured and same goes for the parking area. Mind your prop blast taking off to the south on runway 21. I landed to the north on runway 3. Absolutely can't wait to come back. Most importantly, aside from being able to fly in, the prices were reasonable and the service was outstanding. We can't wait to come back. Thanks to the team at DI's. Y'all have another fan.

Onion Bayou Blossom - Be prepared these things are HUGE!

This place always shows Southern Hospitality! The seafood is ALWAYS AMAZING! I always choose from a variety of these every visit because no matter what I order, the dish tastes great. This restaurant is probably the most successful true, mom-and-pop Cajun restaurant that is truly authentic. I've uploaded a photo of the Bayou Onion Blossom - Be prepared these things are HUGE! They're definitely ordered to share. The raw oysters are always good. The BBQ blue crabs might be my favorite thing to order during season. They're not what you would think though! They're not covered in bbq sauce at all. Just think of them as extremely seasoned crabs cooked on a pit (I'm assuming a pit). Any of the boiled seafood options are always great! The seasonal boiled crawfish is always well seasoned full of spicy goodness and boiled well. I've recently tried the BBQ Oysters due to the previous limited menu, and it surprised me how amazing they were!

If it's barbecue crabs you are looking for, you found the right place! My first time eating barbecue crabs and they were awesome! Friendly owner and staff, definitely worth the drive and prices are good too!

    Blueberry bread pudding - delicious

My family and I really enjoyed the live band -- The Cajun Stompers. They even let my little son practice playing the spoons and the triangle. As far as the food goes, I didn't care for the boiled crawfish; it was too dirty and gritty. I ordered a ribeye with etouffee and it was great, perfectly cooked. Blueberry bread pudding had a pleasant almond flavor and was a great way to finish the meal.

This is my best friend's family's favorite Cajun restaurant. A little detour from I-10 on the way from Houston to Lafayette, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans, it's in the middle of nowhere amidst crawfish farms and rice fields. The staff is so small town and cute. Super friendly. Everything is available on the dinner menu for lunch except, unfortunately, the boiled crawfish. Fried crawfish, yes, but not boiled. On nights, they have live music and dancing and such as well - it's a pretty popular place. Our waitress told us about it (even though my best friend, who took me there, already knew) and said that they could open the sliding doors in front of the stage so we could take a look if we wanted to. We said that was okay, but I half expected to pull away the wooden "curtain" and find the Chuck E. Cheese/Showbiz Pizza robotic animals at their instruments. :P The fried crawfish was lightly crisp and addictive, as were the fried okra. The charbroiled oysters were huge (in size and in number) and came swimming, out of shell, in a lemony butter sauce with more butter to dip them in. They were so rich and there was so much of it that even with us helping, my famished friend could not finish them. A shame. Actually, none of us could finish all our food. Healthy place this is not. But for authentic no-frills country Cajun food and hospitality, this is it. And for locals' nightly entertainment, there is no other.

Babineaux's Cafe definitely met the criteria, it's definitely a part of the local history and culture. The exterior looks a little worn and the parking well it's random to say the least I think the locals here park wherever they feel comfortable and that's okay there's plenty of options. We were greeted by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in and found a seat without a wait although the place had already began to fill for lunch service. There's a lot of standard fare on the printed menus but my eyes went directly to the daily specials handwritten on the chalkboard which changes daily. The staff here is so efficient and quick to describe the specials and grab your drink order and of course they have freshly brewed sweet tea. After looking over the board I could not resist the home cooking option, a perfectly fried pork-chop, green beans, corn and of course a healthy portion of rice and gravy, it was outstanding so much like my momma made, we also ordered a club sandwich on toast, no frills just down home deliciousness. This is definitely a gem in the community and a must try if you want a taste of the local culture and to experience the unmatched hospitality from the people in southwest Louisiana, this is what I miss and always look forward to when returning to the state I was born and raised in...

It's not huge inside but we had no trouble getting a comfortable seat at lunchtime. There's a menu and there's a board of lunch specials. The friendly and attentive service couldn't be beat. If you see the grilled pork ribeye on the specials board you need to get it. The tastiest and most moist pork you may ever eat. The home cooked style vegetables will just make your meal a home run. We are already hoping that the timing on our next trip west coincides with lunchtime here and hopefully the grilled pork ribeye will be on the specials board.

The manager came over right away to ask what the issue was. To me, it was obvious--the lettuce had soggy, brown pieces--but I simply explained that I'm very picky about lettuce. She told me it was from a fresh bag that had just been opened, but I decided to switch my side to the rice and gravy instead. I'm glad I did! The rice and gravy was delicious. The gravy was rich, dark brown, thick, and coated the rice perfectly. The steamed vegetables were the only disappointment, as they seemed like they had been microwaved. However, the grilled pork chop, although thin, was seasoned well and cooked perfectly, staying surprisingly juicy. The chicken fried steak was excellent, with crispy fries alongside it. The red beans were decent but nothing particularly memorable. The gumbo was very good, and the potato salad paired with it perfectly. The kids' chicken tenders were outstanding--juicy, well-seasoned, and fried to perfection while still staying moist inside. Overall, this is definitely a restaurant I'd return to. The staff handled my concern professionally, the service was great, and most of the food was excellent. Next time, I'll simply skip the salad.

We had chicken and sausage gumbo, Pepper Jack boudin balls, bam bam gator bites and the blackened chicken pasta. The waiter this time was better than the waitress we had last time. He was very attentive and made sure we never had to ask for refills. The appetizers came out fairly normal time-wise I would say. The main portion took a little bit longer than what you're used to at a franchise restaurant but here that's perfectly fine as it's worth the couple extra minutes. The gumbo is perfect(I love when gumbo is not over complicated) I like to add a lil hot sauce to it and it's delicious... only thing is, while they already give generous portions... the cup and the bowl looked exactly the same except I think in the bowl they give you one extra scoop of rice... which would be just fine if it wasn't like $6 more. But still delicious nonetheless. The bam bam gator bites were really good and I highly recommend them. If you like bam bam shrimp you'll love these. The pepper jack boudin balls were good, nothing special but they were definitely worth the try. My co-worker had the blackened chicken pasta and when I asked him how it was he said "dude, it's really good!" lol. The building is pretty unique and they have some outside seating with a massive beautiful tree that over looks the restaurant and takes claim to some of the asphalt in the parking lot lol. But it's a great spot for birthdays, good lunch menu deals, casual date night or if you wanna blow some steam off, they have a little bar in the restaurant as well. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend. I'm from East Texas, so I'm no Cajun/Louisianan but they truly got some good grub here. I'll definitely be coming back several more times when I get the chances. I will warn you, I believe the food is freshly made so when it gets to the table, give it some time to cool off because it comes out HOT.

Here's what I had on this lunch visit: The crawfish pistollette (8/10) which was a small appetizer that was bread with some crawfish etouffee on top. Bread was nicely cooked and the etouffee on top was delicious. Solid starter! The Cajun Cooking Sampler (9/10) - this was a sampler with 3 amazing dishes. I got the shrimp and crab gumbo, which is classic Louisiana gumbo and it was outstanding! The sampler also had a bowl of crawfish etouffee which was good but felt it needed a bit more etoufee to mix with the rice. Lastly, the special of the day was fish courtbouillon which was a fish in tomato based sauce over rice. I really enjoyed this as the fish has a great texture and there was a lot of flavor in the sauce. Overall, solid lunch meal in the $ to $$ range depending on what you order.
