I will preface this review by saying it is Friday night, and I am reviewing a pizza place, so let that hold as little or as much weight as you want. This would be my first experience with MOD Pizza. As a vegan in this area, my pizza options are limited so I was excited to give it a try. I placed an order online around 4PM to pick up at 6:30PM (I had to run some errands) thinking they would have plenty of time to get it together and it would be ready to go as soon as I got there. The ordering process itself was pretty easy, so 5 stars for that. I arrived just at 6:30, and I walked into the store to mass chaos. I saw a counter where people were waiting so I walked over and asked the slicing and finishing gentleman there (kicking myself for not getting his name!) if I was in the right spot. He pointed to one of my pizzas sitting there, and told me they were working on it so it should be finished soon. Ten minutes go by. I watch a few people complain about the wait and notice the line has barely moved. My second pizza comes out, and I'm still waiting on two orders of bread sticks. Fifteen minutes. An employee is on the phone, walking around looking worried. Said employee apologizes about my wait, as does the gentleman at the counter. I see other employees on the line giving each other attitude and looking very worried. I start to hear that there is some sort of dough shortage taking place. Line still not really moving, and no one standing at the door explaining to people coming in that there is a long delay on orders. Twenty minutes. The phone employee hands me a coupon for a free pizza, again apologizes. The counter gentleman, politely fielding any and all customer complaints (when clearly that is not something he should solely be responsible for when there's a team of several people, all contributing the problem) turns around and quietly, politely asks the rest of the team about the orders that are taking forever. They immediately give him attitude and raise their voices at him. 0 STARS for team communication and interaction. The counter gentleman calmly turns back around and goes back to finishing the few orders that are coming out and continuing to field any complaints. The phone employee tells me he personally finished making my order so it should be out any minute. Twenty five minutes from expected time of pick up. My order is complete, and I've been apologized to multiple times. 5 STARS for the gentleman at the counter. I work in fast-casual service and I understand how frustrating it can be when you're totally slammed and taking all the complaints when it is not your fault that things are going wrong. He kept his cool and was very polite to all of the customers despite their complaining, and continued to keep his cool as the rest of the team got worked up and had attitudes with each other and completely unnecessarily had attitudes with him. Honorable mention to the phone gentleman. He was walking around to customers apologizing, and I appreciated him personally taking care of my order after I had been waiting so long. Still though, slicing and finishing counter gentleman is the real MVP. My conclusion on service: need more organization and teamwork. A pizza place should expect a big crowd on Friday night, and should be prepared both with staff and materials to handle it. Even if things do go awry, employees should never be visibly frustrated or raise their voices at each other in front of customers. I work in the industry, so I do understand how hard it can be to keep calm, but it is not difficult to smile and be polite to each other, even if you're freaking out on the inside. Now to the food. I will say the food was their redemption! I really liked the pizza crust, it was reminiscent of naan bread. The BBQ sauce I got was seasoned really well, and I thought there was a good amount of toppings. I really appreciate their catering to vegans and those with allergies with their dairy-free cheese option (that doesn't cost extra!). And you cannot beat the fact that additional anything doesn't cost any more! It's always the same price, no matter what you add. We also got the cinnamon bread sticks with chocolate and strawberry dipping sauces. They were the perfect follow-up to the pizza we devoured. Overall, I would say great food and not-so-great service, as whole (remember my slicing and finishing MVP though!). I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad night or if Fridays are always like this. I am willing to give them another try since the food was so good, but I think we will do any other night but a Friday. read more

I love MOD pizza but it can get extremely busy! Love the selection of toppings and love how they cook the pizza in a stone oven which makes the pizza taste great. However, this one guy (not sure what his name is but he wears glasses) burnt my pizza & it seems like he always does(time to time) & don't get me wrong he does offer a new one without charge but it's frustrating having to wait when I come in on a busy day. As another reviewer mentioned, they "yell at you" when you walk in the door. It's annoying at Moe's Southwest Grill and it's annoying here. I've only been to this MOD Pizza once so I don't know if it's a franchise mandated practice. The menu is very diverse and I like that all the pizzas are the same price no matter which toppings you add. I had a very hard deciding. I did eventually decide on the Calexico. While I was standing there I could ask the employees for more of something or to add something else on the fly. The pizza came out a few minutes later cooked well and the mod size was more than enough food for one person. read more

MOD has become my go-to in terms of fast casual restaurants. I'm a meat-lover's pizza girl through and through, but despite the simplicity of the concept, not a lot of pizza places get it right. Either the sausage flavor is off, or the pepperoni is too greasy, or there's no bacon (what is meat lover's without bacon???). I love how MOD, with unlimited toppings, lets me build the meat lover's pie of my dreams, and they're always so nice and friendly throughout the process. There is a WIDE variety of toppings, and though they are unlimited, I would caution against throwing too many toppings on as 1) slices will be very difficult to eat and 2) the crust will not bake to its full crispy potential underneath mounds of moisture-laden toppings. Don't forget to take advantage of the finishing drizzles post-baking! I stick with pesto, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. read more

I wanted to update my review. In response to my disappointment expressed here on yelp an employee from MOD reached out and informed me that he would send my feedback to this store. He was also kind enough to promptly send me a $25 gift card. After a couple visits I was pleased to see the improvement. I felt heard and I think that's a great sign of a good company when they pay attention to their consumers. My pizza crusts weren't burnt, the service was great (as usual) and now when I order pesto drizzle it's not dolloped on. If it weren't for this gesture I probably wouldn't have gone back after that experience. I am happy to say that I am now a regular customer and love MOD pizza! Can you put joy in a brick oven pizza? Yes, yes you can and sunshine comes out the other side. That's what happened this last visit to MOD. My co-workers and I go here at least once a week. No fighting over who wants what, the veggitites and the meat masters all get what they want. The gluters and the non-gluters can rock their pie anyway they want. No one leaves hungry and the food is always spot on. Why if you go all the time are you just now posting a review then? Says the skeptic who still goes to Chipolte for the soon-to-be-sick special. Well good question, and here's my answer, "the Bald Guy!" There is an artistry to cooking in a brick oven pizza. Too close to the heat and blackened crust on the outside and chilly toppings in the middle. Too far away and the whole pie is a tepid mess. Then there is every variation in between. I don't understand how this place functions. Unlimited topping options.. same price?! It's basically a dream come true. Trust me, I took full advantage. The pesto sauce had a wonderful flavor to it, and although I typically prefer a Brooklyn style crust this thinner, crispier version was cooked perfectly. $8.34 for a personal pizza with all the meats and veggies one could ask for is an incredible deal.. and I will happily be returning for more. Main reason a lot of people order online is because they don't want to wait but this place feels that that's not important and makes you wait additional 10 past the pick up time. Mod Pizza is a great addition to the Gateway Shopping Center and is a great alternative to Sal's Pizza. Mod allows you to make your own, which makes the dining experience so much better because I know exactly what I'm going to be eating and where the ingredients are coming from. Often, the pizza cutter at the end cuts the pizza into 1/4s, which is too big of a slice for me so I usually have to tell the person in the beginning that I want it cut into 1/8s. And they never do. Maybe once the cutter at the end has read the instructions, but they don't seem to care. While the end product is usually good, the employees who are usually standing around doing nothing don't really make the experience that great. Once, me and a few friends came and ordered our pizzas. Our four pizzas came out in this time frame: 1. 7 minutes 2. 11 minutes 3. 14 minutes 4. 22 minutes. Half of us had to wait for our friends pizza to be done, which wasn't even a complicated order. Just wish the employees paid more attention to end product and time. But heck, I'll take anything over Sals. read more

Although we absolutely love this pizza, we had a bad experience tonight. An online order was for a pizza with no cheese at all,, but when my husband got it home of course it had cheese. Unfortunately we live 15 minutes away and the manager, Matthew, said there was nothing he could do about it unless I came in To the store. Huge error and inconvenience - not like it was missIng an ingredient...it had a specifically unwaanted ingredient all ovEr the entire pizza. I ordered two pizzas online through the MOD Pizza website. I placed the order at 5:30pm and the website stated that the pizzas would arrive at 6:20pm. Well 6:20pm came and past with no updates from MOD Pizza and no pizzas, so I had to go out of my way and call the delivery hotline for MOD Pizza. Once I called at 6:30pm the representative told me that 3 drivers were put on the delivery and all canceled and there was no one coming. She placed me on hold and told me that she had found a driver that was 3 minutes away. I then asked if the pizzas would still be fresh and warm since the pizzas were suppose to arrive at 6:20pm. She assured me that the store wouldn't send out cold pizzas, but as you can guess the pizzas arrived rock hard and cold and one of the pizzas had a hair with lint inside the pizza that I noticed when I went to reheat the pizza and the other was missing cheese on half of it. At this point I couldn't have been any more frustrated since I was lied to from MOD Pizzas customer support twice. I called the support hotline once again to make them aware of my issues and that I was driving to the store to ask for two new pizzas, but to my surprise I was hung up on by the male representative probably because he was tired of hearing how bad the service of his company was. In conclusion I ordered a pizza at 5:30pm and spent more money to have it delivered but ended up having to drive there to get new pizzas and didn't end up getting to eat it until 8:30pm. I called their customer support number to share my negative experience to possibly help them fix the issues that streamlined my terrible experience but no one answers and it forwards to voicemail lol. Make this a warning to you that their delivery service is absolute garbage and that their customer support is rude and none existent. read more

Attempted to try this place at 12:15 on a Sunday. Entered and about 8 people in line ahead of me. Line appeared to not move in the 10 min I stood there. By this time there must have been 15-20 people in line all the way back to the door. I left and went to Panera and got my food within 5 min. After seeing so many great reviews, we decided to try it. I don't know if it was an off night or if we just like regular pizza, but we didn't care for this. The crust is thin and dry. My son ordered extra cheese on his. He always finishes his pizza but he left some on his plate despite not being full. The reason? Too much of the crust base had NO cheese on it and it was like eating dry pita bread. I couldn't tell you about the taste of the pizza because all I could taste was garlic (and I love garlic....). This is an excellent place to eat and dine for pizza dishes. our girls loved this place. The whole process of ordering the pizza is quite unique, the subway way of adding toppings on the pizza. Best pizza I've had in years. Super fast service, even late. You have a huge selection of toppings and even the desserts are great. The brick oven style is what really where the magic happens, so much great flavor and a solid base to hold your toppings without being heavy, dense or greasy. My perfect pizza. I first visited Mod Pizza during a business trip to Seattle. The whole idea of this chain pisses me off. "Hey, let's take the Chipotle concept, apply it to pizza, and charge a lot for it." It's a lazy concept in my mind. For me, when I want pizza, I want an Italian flag on the wall, a statue of a pizza chef holding a pie, and a gruff owner who sounds like he doesn't want your business. That usually equals good pizza. Not some place where a hipster is making my pie and the menu is filled with fru fru choices. The toppings are of good quality. However, the pizza tastes like it is cooked on a tortilla. The whole process of the assembly line to make your pizza was a bit confusing-for both myself and the staff. Not sure if I'll be back. There are better pizza options in the area like Spatola's in Paoli and Franzone's in Bridgeport. read more
