Updating my review because like I said before, I WANT to give this place the 5 stars like I know it deserves! The pie I previously ordered has since been taken off the menu for the sole reason of it just being too saucy of a pie for that thin crust. The owner Vince reached out to me regarding my last review and was SO polite and appreciative and offered a Trenton pie on the house. I was reluctant to accept at the time because I don't ever want a review of mine to look like I'm fishing for money back or free food, but I decided to take him up on his offer tonight and I'm so glad I did. I received a Trenton pie, and I decided to try the Italian pork sandwich with provolone as well. Let me just say the customer service at this shop is outstanding. Everyone I encountered was just lovely which really could have just made me bump them up to 5 stars based on that. I met Vince when I went to pick up the order and got to chat with him for a bit. He told me all about his business and educated me on his personal recommendations/where they get their bread/the things that are homemade etc. He was really such a pleasure to talk to and his passion for his shop and the quality of food he puts out is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to the pizza shop business. It should be more common in the business to be so passionate but it's not, and honestly that is what sets Carla's apart from other places. Okay, NOW I will talk about the food. The Trenton pie was spectacular! This pie was perfect which is dangerous because I could not stop eating it once I started. I wish I was kidding. The crust was perfectly cooked and held up to everything on top. It had a perfect crisp and 0 flop. The sauce on top was a perfect ratio to the cheese. It is unbelievable how thin they get this crust. You were right Vince, I liked this pizza WAY better than the first one I ordered! Can we talk about the pork sandwich though, oh my goodness. I went pretty plain with my order as I only got roast pork with provolone, but the bottom was slightly dipped in the au jus which was the icing on the cake. The bread soaked up the au jus nicely while not making it overly soggy or falling apart. The pork itself though was delicious! It was very tender and the thing I loved most about it was there seemed to be black pepper mixed in with the pork which complemented the au jus perfectly. I'm not kidding, I think I'm going to have dreams about those flavors going forward. I could probably drink that au jus, but I won't. Please give this business a try because it's people like this that are in it for the right reasons and it shows through their food! I will be coming back here often. read more

Since moving to the Main Line, this is the best pizza that I have tasted, and it's not even close. Order the Trenton Style 16" Square Thin Pizza. You won't go wrong. The Caesar salad and garlic knots are excellent sides, too. The owner Vince is personable and interactive with customers. He talked to us as he made and baked our pizza, which enhanced the dine-in experience. There is a bench and bar to eat on inside and a few tables to eat on outside. They have their rolls baked specifically for them. They make their own cheese whiz. They use 100% sirloin steak. They slice and bake down the mushrooms every morning. Don't sleep on Carla's! If you are looking for a notch above the rest, look no further. It can be hard to find high-quality authentic hoagies and sandwiches in the main line, but thanks to Carla's, that is no longer a problem. We needed a variety of sandwiches for a Christmas Eve gathering - after calling several other places, we called up Carla's and spoke with Vince. After learning that their bread is homemade, the prosciutto comes from a family farm, and about their overall commitment to quality ingredients, the choice was obvious. We ordered Carla's cutlet, Kim's turkey club hoagie, an Italian hoagie - on the side were roasted red peppers, red onion, and long hots. Everything was beyond delicious!! (and with great portion sizes and fair pricing) Having lived in south philly for 10 years, we've become a little picky - however, I can honestly say Carla's is better than even our favorite old neighborhood spot. Really really wanted a good experience. This is my second disappointment and will be the last. Ordered a Caesar salad with extra dressing. Got one ranch dressing and one Caesar dressing. (I hate ranch) When I called, they said I could come back and pick up another Caesar. No. I just want the right order in the first place, I don't want to make a second trip after Returning home. Majority of the lettuce was wilted and gross. Threw out about as much as I ate. Salad in the silver bowl is what I actually ate for $12.25. Delicious home made croutons added a star to the rating.
