I am a new gunpla builder (~3 months) and I am addicted! I'm from the Chicago area and I swear this place has the best selection of kits and all things hobby (and I have been to a lot of stores). It isn't a huge store but they are STACKED. They have everything from cars, model planes, warhammer and GUNPLA. I have never seen the neku bosou series and I'm so happy that I found them here. The store is owned by a super nice couple and I am all about supporting small businesses. The prices are also very competitive! Every thing that is marked regular price is 20% off and they have a monthly competition where they gift a buyer $50 if you bought at least $20 worth of stuff. At the time of this review, it was my second visit in 20 days and I still came out with a huge haul (see pic). They are super active on their Facebook page always taking pictures of their latest arrivals. They also hold things for you at your request so that's how I came out with my next series of cats! It's a good shop but you can't go into look at anything everything's curbside pick up and you cannot see that anything that's in the store I recommend them having a list or somethings showing the brands of everything that's in there because you can't buy pictures you can't see everything and there's certain stuff we were looking for and there's no way we can see or anything I don't understand if everybody's wearing masks and his limiting so many people in there why they just can't be open?I was wondering if there was a way they could make a list of everything in the store like the name brand and everything because we know what we want but we don't know the name brand of it and then when you knock on the door they could give you the list and you could check what you wanted and they could go and get it because you cannot see in the pictures brands of anything it's not close enough It's too cluttered the pictures are read more

One of the best local shops in Michigan, great selection of everything- terrific ownership that knows the hobby (and hobbyists) very well!

Everything here is double the price of internet stores. Not worth driving all the way over here just to pay twice as much.

I only buy warhammer stuff, paints, and tools from here but I absolutley love this place. ModelCave focuses mainly on model kits compared to tabletop games but it doesnt matter because they order it for me and it arrives within 2 weeks with 20% off. The guy that runs the place Jim is totally cool and willing to help you out if you have any question. The place is also very cozy with the building stacked with model kits. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA, and discovered the Hobby Cave a decade ago while visiting family in Ann Arbor. It was a rare find in these internet dominated times. The Hobby Cave is a real shop that I remember from my youth in the 1950s when I bought Revell kits for 79 cents. The Cave is crammed with kits, old and new. Also, there are a wide variety of paints, aftermarket items, and everything a modeler needs. My "home" hobby shop in Pittsburgh is Esther's Hobby Shop, which is considered one of the top hobby shops in the US. I'd put the Modelcave right up there with the best. read more

Now I have to tell you, I'm addicted to plastic. And this place is my heaven. I've been to a few hobby/model shops in my time. And nothing compares to the Modelcave. The selection of kits they have is amazing. They have figure kits, cars, planes, boats, anything you could want. It doesn't just stop there, they have supplies for anything you are working. And the paint selection is to die for. They even have Vallejo paint. Every time I go in there I find something new I didn't see before. Probably the best part of this store is the owners. I love these two. They are some of the nicest funniest coolest people ever. They are always willing to help you out, finding what you need and any advice you might need. The only thing I wish they would have is more resin/garage kits. But I get it, I understand why they don't try to get some of that it in, and the draw backs to trying to sell all that. I had no idea that this place existed. The guy who works there is really nice. I mentioned that I was just in to look through his paint selection and he showed me around . They have a lot of really great stuff. Very reasonably priced, too. The price and the location will keep me away from buying paints online and having to wait forever to get them. read more

Can't say one bad thing about this place. And if you can't find what you're looking for just ask,id they don't have it they'll get it. Plus they offer discounts and advice is free. The staff is awesome and make you feel comfortable. You just want to look at every little nook and cranny for all the amazing things you just might find for your next project. I cannot say enough good things about this place. First off, John -- the owner -- is one of the most knowledgeable modelers out there. No matter what model, be it armor, cars, planes, ships, gundams, superheroes you're looking for he's got it. If he doesn't have it, he can easily order it for you (John even helped find me a particularly hard to get submarine model). That's one of the best things -- prices.
