Cary Senior Center offers so much! I had no idea until I started taking fun classes like line…read moredancing, tai chi, laughter meditation and attended some of the one session educational events. New to retirement I've talked to family friends in FL and CA asking about their local Senior Center. No One has what Cary has to offer. Several classes are free. My favorite is the line dancing classes. They hold several for beginners all the way to a group who will compete in the National Senior Games. My class consists of 65 women, different ages/ethnicity but all kicking it dancing to country-western to hip hop. I was stunned by how friendly and encouraging everyone was toward me. Did I mention it's free? So this is for those folks who maybe in their 50's + new to the area to come to the center and check it out. They also have volunteers to help with Medicare enrollment, etc. Beautiful setting in Bond Park off High House. They offer all kinds of classes, including art, fitness and cooking, and they offer social programs, too. I took a cooking class there last week, and their kitchen is well-appointed and modern. Their fitness room has treadmills, ellipticals and more, and is free to Apex residents. Class prices for Apex residents are always very good. A few classes, including my cooking class, are free! Most classes are during the day, but they're starting to offer a few in the evenings, and the fitness room, which is open until 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, will be open on Saturdays, starting in September.

It has activities for those 50 and up. They offer classes on many topics from computers to fitness. Then offer arts and crafts, card games and book clubs. They also offer trips which is what I did and took a bus trip from the center. Some that went on the bus trip with me are going on the Alaska trip and others are doing indoor skydiving. I just signed up for a decluttering class. They have a book club that reads a story set in a NC place then they plan a trip to that town and the author usually comes or discusses the book too. Other times they read a book that was turned into a movie and watch the movie to discuss how it was similar and different from the book. This center provides a lot of activities for those looking for activities.

I was getting a few chairs ready for a line dancing class that happens every Wednesday evening when…read morean older, female staff member walked into the room interrogating me. I had taken class there many times and had seen the staff member act suspiciously similar to other patrons, but I wasn't prepared for this interaction that left me never wanting to set foot in that establishment ever again. After her unnecessary interrogation, which I tried to politely respond to, she left for a few minutes, then walked back into class on two separate occasions to complain about me to the instructors while I was in the same room. I was a paid customer and the instructors are longtime renters of the community center. As if that wasn't bad enough, the staff member waited until I was near the entrance, bumped into me, then directed her attention to the thermostats. There were a lot of patrons in the room, so it was quite hot. The thermostats were set to 71, but she felt the need to turn them both to 72. After raising the temperature in the room, she finally walked back behind the bar. As a paid customer who was simply volunteering his time to help set up the room for dance class, the treatment I received from this staff member was deeply unfortunate. I will never do business there again.

Don't be surprise when you arrive , it's run more like a senior daycare. 90% of the population is Asian. if you plan to use any of the equipment good luck, it is over taken. I suggested a number system. At three it is over run by children on equipment, when I addressed this, which are mostly staff related? Don't you have to be 55.? No this a community Center. so bring your children at three go down the stairs and use the equipment. open to all. Good Luck

Daily subsidized inexpensive lunches ($1.00 donation for locals). Out of county membership allowed. Program Booklet unparalelled. Preregister where required, some walk in. Physical building is large with handicap access throughout. Many helpful services in addition to activity programs, like taxes, voting etc. Take a program booklet and be astounded and feel welcomed. There is a lot in front of the building but we didn't want to pay to park. Had we read the entire sign, we would have noticed that parking for the center during the day was free. See my pic. Our event was in the downstairs space. There were tables set up and it was a good space for the event. Restrooms were close by. The ladies room had a terrible smell. I went in quickly to wash my hands only. The space in general looked nice. But I can't comment on anything they have to offer for Durham seniors.

I was invited by Mayor TJ Cawley (Town of Morrisville) to introduce myself, my role and future initiatives involving Yelp. Each individual present, was kind and made me feel very welcome. Thank you to everyone for listening to me talk tech, community and the vision we all seem to share together. I look forward to attending another session in the near future and maybe piece together a community event where we can all get Yelpers in the Triangle involved.
