I had Ken from Modern Appliance come out and assess the reason that my freezer was not dropping below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. He removed the back panel and the coils and condenser were iced over. He stated that I needed a new condenser. I waited three weeks for him to get back to me with the part. He came over and it turns out that he ordered the wrong part. Ken called me a few days later and said that the part was back-ordered until 08/31/2024. The freezer was turned off and defrosted over the three weeks. I decided to put the freezer back together and plug it back in. Ken told me this would last for 5 days before it would break down again. The freezer cooled to -10 degrees and has stayed there ever since plugging it back in. I got a call three weeks later from Ken stating that the part was in and when can he come over to install it. I told him that I reassembled the freezer and it has been working ever since and canceled the repair. Modern Appliance is nothing but a bunch of hacks looking to make money off of a warranty repair. He was clueless as to what the problem was and provided me with false information as to my situation. All he did was waste my time. read more

My experience with Modern TV and Appliance was great. They were very professional and knowledgable. I highly recommend. Our home warranty company referred us to a competitor who was horrible from the beginning. Feeling frustrated with their lack of professionalism, common sense and skill, on top of having both of our ovens broken right before thanksgiving, I fired the home warranty service AND the "repair center" and contacted Modern. They came out, assessed the situation, properly diagnosed the issue and ordered a new part with overnight delivery. Carlos, the repairman, came out both to diagnose and repair and both times he was very respectful and professional. My ovens are now fixed just in time for Thanksgiving for the soldiers. I could not find a dryer repair service that had access to get onto Fort Hood until I found Modern Appliance. When I called they gave me an appointment right away and fixed my machine the same day! Our tech John was so professional and knowledgeable. He actually found the problem and offered to drive back to the store to pick up the part and return to fix it the same day. I was so grateful! I definitely recommend Modern Appliance for your repair needs!! Price was also very reasonable and a whole lot cheaper than other places I called. this is a very good place to go and get discounted appliances. we got a general electric washer and dryer pair for $1397 with home delivery included. they set it up for us. their customer service is great. only took them a few days to get this matching set to us. went in on a Monday and had my appliances in by Friday. they even hauled it up to our third floor. highly reccomend read more

I like this business. My builder Carothers Homes purchase all their appliances in purser community. I did have issues with my fridge and my fault for going with a cheaper water filter. They recommend stick with the GE brand filter. They fix my washer fridge and oven. My dishwasher was acting up because I was not rinsing my dishes and the men told me I got clean my filter. My oven dials went out because I left the door open too long again my fault. I am active duty and they never try to rip me off. We all have a choice to go shop and compare prices. Machines can also be our fault for them not functioning correctly got read the manual which I never do. Also I do say some items are faulty, it's all about how you communicate with the manufacturer and they do help and replace if you explain your self correctly. However some items will be the user fault and some are not. read more

I am not sure a real person wrote the other two posts, because if they knew anything about the history of the business they would know this business from the 1980's to 1998 or later (military stopped pursuing) was on the black list by Fort Hood because of continuous incidents of ripping off the soldier. However in the late 90's the tone of fort hood generals changed and instead of taking care of soldiers it changed to how do we cooperate with local businesses. At one time all the check cashing places (with high interest rates were kicked out of killeen area because the military demanded that, but they are back again) The main gate is named after the biggest rip off artist of soldiers, but now he is the best friend of fort hood..amazing how times and how history is altered just for a business deal. With that said Modern Appliance still continues to rip off soldiers and in my case sale shotty appliances and then tells the customer to deal with the manufacturer for warranty, eventhough the store should have taken it back..its been almost a year and half and I am still dealing with a faulty appliance put in by this company because my builder does business with them..I would have never done business with them personally. This business has been around for over 52 years and has been a major contributer to the local Army.The proof is evidenced by walls on top of walls of autographed photos of Majors,Generals, and Congressmen. My refrigerator went crazy - freezer not cold enough, frig part too cold at bottom not cold enough elsewhere, water quit, front panel temps wrong. Called Modern TV & Appliance Service. They got someone out to see about it that day. Carlos quickly went through it and found Freon leak. I called the office to see what it would cost to fix. They were honest and said that those leaks are iffy repairs and they did not recommend it. Any way cost would exceed 1/2 cost of new one so we when shopping for new one. The service call charge was VERY reasonable. About 1/2 what others were asking. I would call them again if I have an issue. read more

I am not pleased with this companies service after the sale on our whirlpool dishwasher. The new dishwasher will not dry the top rack of dishes either plastic or glass. Modern appliance has came out twice to the house and still did not fix it. The company representative told me over the phone that with the new laws and restrictions placed on manufactures now the results we are getting now is about "the best we can hope full." I don't think so! We called whirlpool and they sent another company out and fixed the problem. read more

Horrible and unprofessional! They had our washer for 2 1/2 months for repair and the only communication was when my husband called. Everytime the excuse was "we are waiting on a part". We finally get it back today after paying them almost $350 to fix it and the door latch is broken off inside the washer leaving it useless! I am beyond mad and would NEVER recommended their services! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!!! I don't know how they have stayed in business so long if this is how they treat people! My family has been in Killeen for 4 generations and this is NOT A way to keep customers or do business! read more

I highly recommend this place. If you are going to buy any appliances in Killeen, don't be afraid to venture to downtown Killeen and see the folks at Modern TV & Appliance. The first thing you will notice is the cute throwback exterior...you will think you have traveled back in time. The parking is up front, 3 steps, and 10 ft of sidewalk and you are at the door. You will think it is a small place and does not have enough to show you. But, wait for it....the store opens up into a huge, comfy, uncrowded showroom with more appliance than I have ever seen in the any big box store. This family owned, operated business will give you the care and service no one at a big box store has the time or knowledge to give you.I got everything I wanted for my new home there (stove, dishwasher, Microwave) and saved about $1000 from the best quotes of the big box stores, for the same appliances or better. The sales staff here have the time and expertise to ask you the right questions about what you want and need out of you appliances then offer you the array of choices to meet those needs. Finally, when the appliances arrived at our new home, they were perfect and the installer was a knowledgable, pleasant, clean, well spoken professional in his line of work instead of some contract company that had no real relationship with the sellers. I called this company when my electric dryer stopped heating up. I told the salesman I was pretty sure it was the heating element and wanted to set up a service call. When the service tech came out he said it was the motor and would cost me more to replace it than to just buy a new one. The next day we tightened a wire connected to the heating element and it worked like new. I think these techs are just going around and collecting on easy sales call fees without ever fixing anything. I called the next day to tell the manager about my displeasure and he did nothing. He could have atleast made a gesture to return any part of my service fee. read more

Every time we need a new appliance, the staff helps us navigate the various models and choose the one that best suits our needs (and budget!). Delivery and installation has always been prompt and easy. And, when our dishwasher started leaking one time, I just called up the guy at Modern Appliance and described the problem. He talked to his technician, called me back to tell me what they thought was going on, and ordered the part we needed from the manufacturer. When the new part came in we changed it out and the leaking stopped.
