Highly recommend finding somewhere else to go for your prom dress that isn't modern brides in Huntsville. We took my daughter's prom dress there for alterations on Feb 17 and the lady (the owner) was rude and unprofessional during the alterations and acted like we were a burden to her. We had never had anything altered before and she made us feel dumb for not knowing the terms she was using. Anyways we were told the dress would be ready a week before prom. I called March 4th to make sure the dress would be ready and to see if there was anyways to pick up before a week before prom and was told it'll be "about a week before prom and they would be calling and sending me a message when it's ready." I told them we live an hour and a half away and have few days we'd be able to pick it up due to practices, tournaments, work, and them closing at 5 during the week. She just said again they would message me when alterations are done. I never heard back so I called last week and was told it still wasn't ready and they would message me when it's ready. A week til prom (March 16) comes and goes and still hear nothing. So I called them Tuesday (March 19th and prom is the 23rd) and was told they just got done pressing it. 4 days before prom, not a week. She asked if we wanted a final fitting but at that point it was so close to prom and we couldn't leave it and come back another day we just had to bring it home if something was wrong. We were assured since the only alterations needed were straps took up and hemmed to floor length that it would be perfect. So I took the girl at her word. Big mistake. Tuesday was one of the days we couldn't go pick it up so we went Wednesday right after school and got there about 4:30 due to traffic. We got home last night and she tried it on and of course the straps are not taken up correctly and they are uneven. I called and spoke with the lady that did the alterations and she said the dress had been done for a while and I should have gotten a message. I told her I never got a call or message and only knew it was done because I called Tuesday and was then told they just got done with it. I told her it was altered wrong and was requesting a refund and she only offered 20 dollars. I advised 20 wouldn't even cover the cost of emergency alterations to be done today because we can't make it back to Huntsville today or tomorrow in time before they close. She said that is all they can do. I asked for half of the alterations to help cover to cost to have her mistakes fixed and she refused. She said that is what the final fitting is for but keep in mind I didn't take it because her girl up front told me it would be perfect. She ended up hanging up on me because I wouldn't accept her 20 dollars and was requesting half. I feel half of the 120 to fix would have been sufficient. She was very unprofessional and rude. Now my daughters dress is wrong 2 days before prom because of they were unorganized and their lack of communication. She never admitted the alterations were wrong during the call only said the straps weren't altered enough. They're uneven and still too long... That's wrong. But yeah proceed with caution or avoid this place all together. And check your dresses for pins left in during the alteration process. I pulled 5 out of the bottom of the dress too. Also after further review of the bottom of the dress on the mesh layers, it looks like a shark bit the bottom off. Very jagged and uneven. I could have done a better job myself making the lines straighten and saved the 120 I spent on alterations. read more

The young lady in there had 35 mins until her next appointment.. she was kind enough to help me.. in those 30 mins, I found the perfect dress. Not much help while trying on and getting off dresses in a small, crowded dressing room since all the dresses were kept in there. Got extremely stressed out after looking at 2 dresses and had to leave 10 minutes into my appointment. I'd already been to several different locations to pick out a wedding dress for my beach wedding. A lot of them were too heavy, or I just didn't like the fit. My mom was the one who suggested Modern Brides. The moment we went through the door, we had staff greet us. They helped me go through several different dresses before I found one that was absolutely perfect for the wedding. My fitting went smoothly as well, all the way down to my final pick up where I had one tiny adjustment with the dress's bustle. The store owner was extremely helpful as she was working with another customer at the time. She balanced her time between myself and a second fitting without me feeling as if I'd been forgotten. Went to Modern Brides for my formal gown for the Ms Veteran America Competition. When I arrived, I was greeted at the door with a smile. I never once had to take my dress to the dressing room or even put it back on the hanger. I tried on many dresses and never felt rushed or as if I were being an inconvenience to anyone. They gave me great advice on each dress and honest opinions about each one. Everyone was very professional, kind and willing to help. This was a comforting change from my experience at David's. I ended up with a beautiful gown and left a very, very happy customer. I would recommend to anyone. They also have only one of each gown, so you don't have to worry about someone else wearing the same thing. read more

Modern Brides saved us!! We made the mistake of going to Madison Bridal and they gave us the wrong size dresses and were horribly rude and unwilling to fix their mistakes. We ran to Modern Brides two days before the wedding to get a replacement dress (that's how off the Madison Bridal dress was!) and not only were the ladies at Modern Brides pleasant and friendly, one lady went above and beyond to stay and help after we rushed there straight from the airport. She kept the store open for us and let me try on a dress right off the rack. Since she let me buy the dress in my size (unlike Madison Bridal) it fit perfectly right off the rack. No alterations necessary! It was such a relief to walk down the aisle on my sisters wedding day in a dress that was beautiful and fit me like a glove. Modern Bride's customer service was excellent and the wedding wouldn't have been as good without their help!!! I just wish we'd come to them first!!!!! In the future, I will! read more

Went to Modern Brides today to pick out bridesmaids dresses. We had a scheduled appointment. We arrived on time and were greeted at the door and assigned our assistant. She acknowledged us and then left. We ended up picking and trying on dresses all on our own. Never saw her again except she did ask us to move from where we were sitting so she could help someone else. She offered absolutely no guidance or assistance other than asking us to move and not offering any other seating options. I was furious and ready to leave; however, Lindsay stepped in and was incredible in every way. Very nice recovery. Found and ordered our dresses. Lindsay is a definite keeper. The other assistance needs to find another line of work. I will say that they were incredibly short staffed for an appointment only environment. Five Stars to Lindsay. I went here in '07 and got my wedding dress, and my daughters got their bridesmaid dresses there also. Pricing was GREAT, Staff was very friendly, just a great place. So when my daughters needed prom dresss this yr, we went here again, just a few days ago, and we got my one daughters prom dress, and her friends here also, my other daughter already had one. I went into Mordern Brides with a friend to buy dresses for a ball. We are both in our mid 20's and went into the store with pictures of what we wanted. We had plenty of money to spend and their prices weren't an issue for us. I went to Modern Brides recently to shop for wedding dresses, and I have been less than impressed with what I found there. The level of service was minimal - the girl helping did not even offer to help get the dresses on, and gave no suggestions for dresses I may like. I had an appointment, but I felt as though I was intruding on their store. I tried on a beautiful MoriLee gown that they had listed at $1100 new (but I could buy the sample off the rack for 25% off). Come to find out later, this same dress retails normally for less than $500 new! I have checked several other stores just to be sure... WHAT A RIP OFF! Brides - make sure that you check around for the prices before committing to a dress from this store. I chose Modern Brides for my first official wedding dress shopping adventure with my mom and future mother in law. I did a lot of researching before I went, checking out the brands they carry and the styles I would like. I probably came a little more prepared than most, with a list of about 9 dresses (from different designers) that I knew I wanted to try on. Unfortunately, they only ended up having 3 of the styles I wanted, and all of those were the same designer, so I started out pretty disappointed. The bridal consultants were all very sweet, but a little on the young side. There's nothing wrong with them being young, it just made me wonder how experienced/how helpful they might be able to be if I wanted recommendations. Whenever I came out in a new dress, they did the usual sales girl ooh and aah, but not too much more comments to really help lead to a yes or no opinion on the dresses. I went in pretty sure I'd be finding my dress and ordering it that day, but by the end I didn't really feel very sure about anything which I think might've been different if I they had more of their designers' options or consultants with a little more experience. read more

I flew into Huntsville to go wedding dress shopping with my mom over Labor Day weekend and was lucky enough to be able to schedule an appointment with Mallory at Modern Brides. She was incredibly patient and so knowledgeable in her advice giving. She is by far the best bridal consultant I have worked with. She stayed engaged throughout the appointment, offering advice and great fashion suggestions. She is so very wise beyond her young age and absolutely AMAZING!! I ended up ordering a dress and she is going to arrange to have the dress shipped to me in Texas. I have since called back with a few questions and she has continued to be amazingly helpful and was able to answer all of my questions. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! I walked in to get ideas for my wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses and was the only customer there. I was able to walk right past the desk where an older lady was playing on her phone and completely ignored me. I looked at bridesmaids dresses first and after a few minutes I had some questions. I walked back up to the desk where the old lady was now on the computer. I said "ma'am, can I get some help?" and she completely ignored me. So I walked off to the wedding gowns. I heard her phone ring and listened to her tell the caller that she wasn't busy and would love to go to lunch. I gave up at that point and walked out. I guess she doesn't need any business. 5 words for my -5 star review: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! While glad for all the brides & prom-goers who left 5 star reviews, I wish I had gotten the same great experience. My 4 bridesmaids & I made an appointment with Modern Bride in October. I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses. The 4 of them agreed that 2 would wear a dress by 1 designer, & the other 2 wear a dress by a different designer. Since coming from 2 different designers & 2 different dye batches, I decided to go with 2 different shades of the color I picked, just in case they didn't turn out the be the same color. 1 of my bridesmaids paid half of her dress in advance, but another bridesmaid was very pregnant so we decided not to order them & return after her due date to place the order. The consultant gave me a color swatch of 1 of the dress designers, said they were out of stock of the other designers color swatches, but would order more & contact me when it came in. December rolled around& I had not heard from them about the color swatch. A week later I stopped by to check on it. When I walked in, the consultant that I had recognized me & reassured me that the delivery date for it was Jan16th. On Feb 9th, after I STILL hadn't been contacted, I called to speak with the manager. I stated what my dilemma was & all of the times I had inquired about this color swatch & never heard back. She said that she had put a rush order on the swatch, the delivery date for it was Feb 11th & that she would make sure that she called me as soon as it arrived. On Feb 14th, STILL no one had contacted me. I went to the shop again & an associate asked if i was there for my color swatch & stated my name. (This told me that obviously every associate knew who I was & my ordering issue, but STILL didn't contact me to let me know it had arrived). I said that I was there to get a refund for the deposit that my bridesmaid had put on her dress. She said that they do not do refunds or exchanges under any circumstances, so she would have to speak with the owner, Pat. I waited a few minutes, then Pat stepped over & asked if I had my bridesmaids credit card number so she could refund the money. I called my bridesmaid & put her on the phone with Pat. When finished, Pat handed my phone back to me along with a receipt of the refund & simply said "ok thats all". Then walked away. The OWNER of Modern Bride did not ask why I wanted a refund, what the issue was, or offer her help to make it right. I am pretty sure she never even laid eyes on me! The fact that I didn't have to fight for my "non-refundable" refund & that she wouldn't even look at me tells all that obviously she knew they had screwed up, given POOR customer service to a PAYING customer & wanted to prevent any potential customers in the store from hearing any fuss if she questioned me. I wanted to give her a piece of my heated mind, but I decided that posting my review would be better in the long run. They can't handle ordering a color swatch/communicating in a 5 month span, so i wouldn't trust this shop with ordering any dresses, especially for a wedding. read more
