Which we always did on our "spa day." The food court has a Popeyes and a Charleys, there is a barber shop, an alterations shop, a General Nutrition Center, an Optical shop called "Vista Optical." I'm not sure if the nail salon is still open. There were always vendors lining the hallway outside the PX entrance. There used to be a Cinnabon in the food court area. Often, there would be a BBQ food truck outside, too. There are a Regions bank, an RFCU, and a Burger King in the parking area. I think there is a Starbuck's also in the same general parking area. On the north side of the parking lot, you can "park and sell" vehicles, including RVs Across the street is the Class Six and gas station with a (not drive through) car wash.

She is super brilliant and was an engineer in a former life. She is so knowledgeable about yarn, the different types, the animal/chemical composition and processes used, etc. The selection of different types of yarn and various brands was outstanding. Nina also found a way to connect with everyone in the store, even a shy little girl there with her Mom. Nina gave her some yarn to have to play with. I will be making this a regular stop when I'm in Huntsville. It gets my highest recommendation.

She was unapologetic. I literally backed out of the store, as she wasn't relenting. I want to offer full caution, as this was an exchange I didn't cause or understand; I came in as a customer, and she initiated a very strange, personal, opinionated assault. Patches and Stitches is a classic quilt shop for a town the size of Huntsville. It is neither the…read morelargest nor the smallest quilt fabric store I have ever been in, but it has a niche, caters to its customers, and serves them well. They have a good Civil War reproduction fabric area, and they usually have a pretty decent 1930s-repro area, too. Much of the store is devoted to classic fabrics: blenders, overall prints, batiks. They have a small selection of wide backing fabrics. They also have a lot of cross-stitching materials, which take up half the store. I know nothing of cross-stitching, so someone else should speak about that part of their merchandise. Pros: they've got a little bit of everything. Tools, stencils, fat quarters, thread, fabric. Cons: they've only got a little bit of everything. They're not going to carry specific designers or get in the designer du jour you're craving. If your tastes run to Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt etc., they are not going to have your fabrics -- you will need to look outside for them. Good, reputable basics, though? They've got them, and the fabrics from the bigger companies are the higher-quality versions that only dedicated quilt shops carry. You'll pay more, but you'll get the GOOD stuff. They do have a person who takes in longarm quilting projects (for a fee, obviously) so if you're looking for a quilter, they can point you to one. Sales are rare, maybe once or twice a year. They announce it to their mailing list first. Typically it's a good discount but purchases have a 1/2-yard minimum to get the discount, so be prepared. They have classes, but I've never taken one. They don't have a ton of thread, which is disappointing to me. My guess is that there's just not much of a market for it. It's a good shop. I try to make as many purchases there as possible, to help keep them in business, but I recognize there are some things they aren't going to carry and will never carry, so I get those elsewhere.

The owner, Darden, also owns…read moreStar Market grocery store that is directly across the street on Pratt, and a Star Market Grocery and (I could be wrong) also a Propst Drugs in Meridianville, AL, and is affiliated with Hunnington Pharmacy in SE Huntsville. Now that the history lesson is out of the way, I have to say this Propst is a nice addition to Five Points. When I lived nearby on Ward, Propst Drugs was very convenient as it was open seven days a week, and I liked you could pick up over-the-counter items there, and Propst offered the convenience of an in-house post office counter. Darden, the pharmacist at the time, was very knowledgeable and helpful. I never considered it a "discount" pharmacy/drugstore; however, that may be an artifact from its name when it opened in the 1950s. I like that the business model has changed over the years, with the initiation of a "walk in clinic" here, I think around 2010, and the consolidation of the durable medical equipment at this location (which was formerly on Governers Drive). I can't comment to the walk-in clinic or the durable medical equipment since I have not used either. The convenience to both Star Market grocery (which has an in-store pharmacy) and the Propst Drug Store are huge assets to those living in Five Points. Most residents can walk to both stores and even dine at 1892 East across the street. Thank you, Darden, for keeping Huntsville's "Heritage" alive!
