I was an established patient at Modern Dermatology for several years before moving out of the area. After returning, I understood that I would be considered a new patient again and accepted the long wait time. I scheduled an appointment nearly 10 months out. Unfortunately, due to a travel conflict, I needed to reschedule. When I called, I was told the next available appointment was another 9 months away. That kind of delay makes it very difficult to maintain continuity of care, especially as a returning patient. Terrible "front desk" staff who contradict their messaging and fail to provide assistance. They cannot answer the phone or pick up the phone to reach you. They prefer an exchange of vague emails instead. Takes more than one year to schedule an appointment! My physician recommended this practice, but I'll be letting them know how awful this place is and to avoid it. I have been a patient at MD for about 10 years and have been helped with a few skin cancers, basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma (four that I remember). I see Dr Whipple and have seen Dr Rogers as well for Mohs surgery. I've had laser treatments. I have had chemo injections. Now we schedule a skin check every 6 months. It's the best dermatology care you can get. I haven't had any problems with the front desk. They are busy and doing the best they can. They don't have time or the ability to cater to divas who want their appointment right now. This is a professional atmosphere of top talented dermatologists. If you need a first appointment, be patient and wait. They do have cancellations and can try to get you in sooner. ZERO stars! This place is managed terribly. Avoid if you can. The only good part of this place is the esthetician but they took that away. She was lovely but They had an older laser that was painful! My new office has a newer one a it's significantly less painful. I've seen Dr G and he was great. I saw another Dr for Botox and was injected poorly and drooped on one side. They did fix it free of charge. The worst part of this place is the front desk staff and management- not kind at all. They are rude and could care less about patients and don't manage appointments correctly. They recently cancelled my appointment with very short notice (medical) and only texted me and said I could come in 10 months. They said call because it's time sensitive and no one answers and they say 24 hours turn around for calling back. What a joke. I've complained in the past about their lack of answering the phone and the manager didn't care at all. I asked for a referral because of the long wait time and she told me to google LOL When people spend significant amounts of money for cosmetic derm, at least treat them a little better lol I'm done with this place and don't recommend. read more

I haven't been seen here and I think that's the problem. My Dr has sent a referral fax twice and Modern Dermatology says they never got it, and that's not the problem, it's the front desks dismissive behavior and failure to follow up. Two times I've been told I'd get a call back, two times I've been left hanging. Encounters like this are just poor performance. This review covers the quality of cosmetic services and a dermatological challenge at the office for those with chronic health conditions. I've been a patient at Modern Dermatology for several years. The doctors are generally friendly and get to know their patients. Dr. Collyer is exceptionally skilled at cosmetic procedures and, given the occasional risks of a cosmetic procedure, it's my experience that you really don't want to go anywhere else than Modern Dermatology for a cosmetic service. Their follow up, caution, and care was exemplary medical care when a small side effect happened; Dr. Collyer was exceptionally cautious, proactive, and helped me through it with no damage. (I should say this happened after a few similar treatments with no side effect). So, yes, if you're looking for a safe, skilled cosmetic treatment in Seattle, there's nowhere better than Modern Dermatology. For dermatological issues, the team is skilled at identifying a problem, prescribing a topical medication or applying a treatment. However, an area where the office doesn't do as well is treating chronic conditions which may stem from non-dermatological causes. The office is led by highly trained western medicine docs (thank goodness!) but this also means there are some blind spots for chronic conditions. For instance, the team knew I had a longstanding inflammatory condition, but when I came in with skin issues in my late 30's/early 40's, chalked dermatological problems up to "getting old." Working with a functional medicine doctor, I found out I've got a massive gluten sensitivity; a lot of my inflammation and skin issues were a direct result of eating gluten. Cut out gluten, and my skin issues went away. (Including a problem I've had since childhood!) When I went in for a cosmetic procedure on my abdomen, the office missed the signs of a common illness in women--I didn't need the cosmetic procedure, I needed major surgery. Screening questions for the procedure should have picked this up. (I had no idea my condition at the time, but it was signifigant.) All of this is to say, Modern Dermatology are great doctors. It's the safest and most skilled place to go for cosmetic procedures. If you have a one-time dermatological issue, they're highly skilled and knowledgeable. But if you have chronic health conditions that intersect with dermatological issues, Modern Dermatology will help short term symptoms treatment---but are less likely to get to the root cause or refer you to other doctors who could help. read more

The one star is for being on time. This place was colder than the 36 degree weather that I ran in to get there. I made an appointment for Botox and fillers only to be told that I first needed a consultation before they could schedule an appointment for fillers. That would have been great to know ahead of time. The 'consultation' that was provided was a two minute scan of my face...which that consultation is being charged to my insurance as a doctor visit...sounds fishy to me. The MA that checked me in had the bedside manner of a tomato. Dr. Collyer wasn't any better. He gave me 5 injections in less than 5 minutes and I was out the door. I am pretty sure he didn't even give me an obligatory 'thank you' You're better off going to one of those sketchy Botox parties. At least there you'll get some appetizers and wine, maybe even some dance music. read more

Long-overdue update: Everything I initially said stands. My experience at MD is always consistent and speedy. My hormonal acne has cleared up wonderfully under Dr. Roman'a care and we have been in "maintenance mode" for the last year. Dr. Rogers is head of the class when it comes to dermatology in the Puget Sound region. Her level of education and expertise is unparalleled in the Seattle area. One thing that I really appreciated was that Dr. Rogers took the time to talk about a good skin care routine with me! I have been going to dermatologists since I was a teenager and none of them actually cared about my routine nor talked about products for my best skin. I really care about my skin and I felt that Dr. Rogers is truly invested in her patients having their best skin. I appreciate her natural less-is-more approach to facial aesthetics. I visited Dr. Collyer to investigate a skin rash on my hand and confirm whether abdominal surgical incisions were healing okay. I have been pleasantly surprised at how talented, thorough, and friendly he and everyone in his office are. While checking my incisions, Dr. Collyer noticed two suspicious moles and requested my permission to perform a biopsy. When I visited other dermatologists who performed biopsies in the past, they checked moles that were okay and left me with scars. I was impressed that the two that he biopsied were indeed problematic and have healed more aesthetically than expected. Further, he prescribed medication and gave instructions to treat my rash (eczema) and help my incisions heal. I was also appreciative of how his team got everything pre-approved through insurance, so billing was a breeze with no surprises. read more

Not only was she honest and comprehensive during the exam (which was a regular mole and skin check), she gave me great advice and recommendation for my skin but didn't try to up sell expensive procedures or products. I appreciated her manner during the appointment, as well as that of her amazing nurse. It was a very busy day for them, but they didn't make me feel rushed or that I couldn't ask questions. Really great experience, and I walked out with skincare products recommended exactly for my skin, but less than what I usually pay at Sephora for other brands that I usually use. This is so disappointing. I live one block from Modern Dermatology and my previous dermatology stopped practicing. I have a sun spot that is changing shape so I called to make an appointment. I told them I would be paying cash. I have temporary state provided insurance due to my layoff (former flight attendant), however I only have it for catastrophic events until I'm rehired. I am self employed in the beauty industry doing sunless tans because I believe so heavily in sun safety. They denied me service and said they won't take cash payments from a client on Medicaid. My first reaction was embarrassment and humiliation....and yet it shouldn't be. There is nothing wrong with getting help and state assistance during COVID and doing what you need to do to stay healthy. I have no idea why they would say this. I checked with Apple Healthcare to see why this would be a problem and they said it was completely fine to use a provider outside of network and choose to pay cash. She has saved me from finding a skin cancer on my nose and doing an amazing job with my Mohs surgery, to treating my post abdominal surgery scars. When I was staying on Orcas Island I chose Modern Dermatology because Kenmore landed on Lake Union right across the street from their office. I came in for botox that until then I'd only go to cranio-facial surgeons (in NYC and Chicago) because I believed they better knew the musculature of the face than a dermatologist. I was absolutely wrong. I saw Dr. Roman who not only-given the results-had a better appreciation of what and how much to inject but her fees were far more reasonable than the plastic surgeon. In addition, my face appeared younger and did not have the frightening arched clown eyebrows that resulted from the latter's treatment. In addition, Dr. Roman successfully treated a chronic patch of eczema and disappeared a number of awful reoccurring blackheads that plagued my back. Her sidekick esthetician, Marin, gave introduced me to dermaplane facials that are far better than ANY facial from the best luxury spas I've been to. Between the magic this dynamic duo exacted on my face, I've stopped the clock somewhat and a few people have even reached out to touch my cheek in disbelief (I kid you not). As a result I now fly in from the Midwest for their outstanding unparalleled care. They know I fly in and will work with me to get me in the office. That said, I agree with others, the front desk really needs to be on point and reflect the exemplary care their employers provide their clients. They should not have to choose between competence or positive attitude when answering the phone and making appointments. It is somewhat disconcerting that a few receptionists display an attitude that does not reflect the quality of care the doctors, estheticians, and nurses provide. read more

The staff is very friendly, the office is super clean, and I was taken back on time and seen in a timely manor. Dr C is great for any cosmetic needs like Botox and fillers, but is a super knowledgeable and capable medical dermatologist too. He also happens to be super nice, which is an added bonus. I saw Dr rogers yesterday after a dermatologist at group health referred me because I was looking for a cosmetic dermatologist. It took a month to get in, but they called and offered an earlier day when someone canceled. The office is unexpected because its on mercer by amazon, and the interior is sleek white and upscale, but not in a Beverly hills way. They got me in right away and after meeting with the nurse, Dr Rogers came in. I follow a version of the 7 step Korean skincare routine using products ($3-20) I researched before getting, and read allure for the medical beauty articles, so i was surprised when she completely changed my routine. That was what I'd been hoping for though because my fair skin scars from every occasional pimple and doesn't look good without makeup. Dr Rogers told me to stop buying products from China because they're old, but didn't push me to buy what she recommended me and gave me samples. I would keep detailing the routine, but I probably should keep the rest a secret so people don't copy it instead of making an appt. So I live in Denver, but am in Seattle a lot for work. With that being said, I first saw Dr. Collyer for some cosmetic "tune-up" work when he was at Westside Dermatology. My face looked like it had been hit with a hot bag of nickels! All kidding aside, I had some wrinkles that I wanted to lessen, so I keep going to Dr. C because he is FANTASTIC! Not only is Dr. James a great guy, he's a truly knowledgeable Doctor and master of his craft! Basically, from my experience, for any matters that might involve slowing the facial aging process, you should be going to Modern Dermatology. Lisa, the office manager, is probably one of the nicest people I have met in Seattle! She is outstanding at making you feel welcome and is very helpful with any questions you might have. Think twice before going there! I went there in August for eczema issue. First, it took 2 months to have an appointment Second, front desk was not helpful at all and was not able to answer my questions regarding consultation price etc.. Third, On the day of my appointment, doctor did not even touch me or even care about my problem. He just wanted me to buy their "awesome products". Doctor didn't even touch me or get closer to me to examine my eczema. I did my own diagnostic.. Fourth, after the consultation i went to a pharmacy. What a surprise to discover that the ointment prescript by the doctor was $375! for a F** 30g tube! At the end I wasn't able to pay for this ointment and i have to pay for the 5mins spend with the doctor. Really avoid this place ! read more

If there was a six star, Modern Dermatology would get it!!! I was initially referred by my primary care physician and almost didn't make an appointment as I live in West Seattle. But when I could not get an appointment locally, I then decided to give MD a try. As others have noted, the offices are esthetically great and the staff just superb. My first appointment was with Dr. Collyer and in addition to identifying a couple of problem areas, he also prescribed a medicine for an existing problem that three prior dermatologists had been unable to fully treat!!! The issue was immediately cured. He then referred me to Dr. Rogers as I had one "nasty cell" at the tip of my nose. Last Thursday I went through the procedure (MOHS) and today the stitches were removed. Dr. Rogers and her team are simply amazing. Informative, caring, friendly, efficient and just nice people. Several nurses/assistants took part in the process and everyone was knowledgeable and explained each stage of the process, Bravo to this entire team!!!! read more
