Westside Dermatology - The waiting room. - Dermatologists Near Me - Seattle, Washington

This was my first, and last, visit to Westside Dermatology. I had taken my daughter to be seen here about 10 years ago and had a good experience. My experience was not. Dr Ramsey Markus was dismissive, brusque, condescending and rushed. I had provided a list of my concerns at the time I booked my appointment, and was prepared to ask all my skin questions and concerns during the visit. Dr Markus dismissed several things I asked him about during exam, including something another doc had told me about a dermatofibroma. His general tone was condescending as if I, without a MD after my name, wouldn't know anything about skin conditions. During my skin check, Dr Markus identified a potential skin cancer and reluctantly performed a biopsy at the time of my visit, per my request - stating his schedule was busy. I understood this, as I booked my appointment in January for first available at the end of April. "Pertinent negatives" section of my visit notes inaccurately stated I had no previous history of skin cancer. I had disclosed when booking my appointment that I had a history of squamous cell skin cancer in 2014. Dr Markus did not specifically offer treatment options for skin tags or milia, as stated in his visit notes. When I asked him about the milia around my eyes, he told me, "some people make milia." Across the board, the visit notes in my file did not reflect what he actually counseled me on, indicating he used canned notes but did not actually verbalize them to me. When I asked about options to treat readiness on the face, Dr Markus gave me a flyer with cosmetic laser treatment options, upon which he circled the options he recommended. He told me there was a shampoo I could use to treat Tinea at home, but didn't provide the name of the product - I had to ask the front desk to get it from the medical assistant as I was checking out. I picked up a brochure on Tinea and Mohs from the treatment room; Dr Markus did not offer them. Appears this dermatologist is quick to offer treatment options that bring in money (cosmetic), but not as quick to share home treatment options or minor procedures (skin tag removal, milia extraction). Biopsy results I viewed in the patient portal were dated 4/29 (4/24 visit). Dr called me on 5/5 (4 business days later) with a positive result of basal cell cancer. He referred me to a Mohs surgery center for treatment. Dr Markus coached me on screening calls when I picked up on his second call. I will not be returning for any elective cosmetic procedures or further skin checks. read more

I have been using a single Dr. at westside dermatology for years and she was great. All I needed was my prescription refilled. The doctor I previously saw had left Westside Dermatology (in retrospect I can only assume it was to get away from Artnzen). When she walked in the room she didn't even look at my face and at no point even bothered to examine my face. She came in and just arrogantly announced "It's Rosacea." (a misdiagnosis from years before) and then argued with me about how she'd "been doing this for 34 years and she just knows." Welp, she doesn't fucking know. She then proceeded to tell me that there were alternative treatments which I explained have never worked. I had to wait 3 weeks for this appointment to occur in the middle of when I should be asleep for my graveyard shift and this woman wants to argue with me over 100 doxycycline. During this conversation I bring up a potentially permanent solution suggested by my first doctor - this doctor who gets me in my pajamas and raincoat because it's basically the middle of the night for me and raining says "ohh, I wouldn't suggest that treatment, it could expose you to hepatitis." I couldn't for the life of me understand why a skin treatment would expose me to Hep-C. I finally get home and take a nap before my shift and wake up realizing, not only did this shitty arrogant argumentative asshole misdiagnose me without even bothering to look, she *ALSO* accused me of being a fucking heroin junkie! I'm a very tired overworked operations engineer being accused by this self-righteous ignorant judgmental incompetent fool of a doctor of being a drug addled needle user. I then wait an hour in the Costco pharmacy line to receive a prescription for only 30 pills when the prescription was for 100. 100 would last me over a year. Now i get to waste my time 3 times this year and pay more money for a prescription I have been getting for years. She never bothered to look at my medical history, or my file, couldn't be bothered to even examine my skin -- the whole point of forcing me to come in for this appointment -- misdiagnoses not only my skin issues, but then argues about my treatment and then low key accuses me of being a heroin junkie. This is 110% the WORST MEDICAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. THIS WOMAN SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO PRACTICE. Icing on the cake? I paid out of pocket for my visit and just got a bill from my old insurance that no longer covers me telling me that I owe $246.00 for this experience. I took an entire day off work, drove over an hour for this appointment. Front desk was no help did not offer any solutions. Awful customer service. read more

Do you like having your prescriptions mishandled in ways you've never thought possible? Well, look no further! You too can get caught in a never-ending phone tree of nonsense. It is impossible to talk to an actual human at this office. I would be happy to conduct business over email... if they actually answered email. Or messages of any kind. Both my pharmacy and I have been trying to reach them over a week about a simple prescription refill. Ironically, my first experience with this office involved them sending a new medication to my pharmacy that cost $400 without consulting me. Now I can't get a refill on something I've been taking for more than a decade. This is exhausting. read more

Loved Taj Rock who was an incredible practitioner. Thoughtful, kind, took time to connect. Once she moved I didnt have a good experience. The techs were stressed and the doctor cold and brisk. Would probably try again, but they Literally NEVER answer their phone. The first few times I tried (over 6 months), i got a phone tree with numbers that took me nowhere. I went in and reception didnt understand, as there is only one phone. You cannot get ahold of anyone for appts, not for billing. NEVER. I dont think they have any staff for this. I really think I have no option but to find another clinic. read more

I had an appointment with Eli Wood and she wrote me a Rx that hasn't been on the market for years (this was verified by multiple pharmacies).  I called back several times and left multiple messages requesting her to fill me an alternative Rx.  To date, I have not received a call back.   I had to call my primary physician to get an alternative Rx filled -- which my primary physician did, the same day that I called.  Additionally, I had lab work done and I was not given a call back to discuss the lab results. read more

I've been trying to get a refill for a medication prescribed by Eli Wood, PA, for 1 month. I contacted Westside via the refill request form on their website, by several faxes sent from my pharmacy, and by calling the clinic directly and leaving messages with both the front desk and with Ms Woods office (it's impossible to reach anyone in their office directly, as other reviews attest). Additionally, at my last appointment, I was told 2x that Ms Woods was running 20 minutes late (40 mins total), and I finally had to leave due to another commitment. No one called beforehand to let me know that there was a backup or to offer to reschedule my appointment. I cannot understand how they are allowed to operate in this manner, and I am leaving their practice. My prescription was treatment for a relatively non-harmful condition, but what it it was something I required? This is irresponsible behavior from a medical facility. read more

I really tried to give WD 2 stars, even though Dr. Marcus is good, it's their front of the house process is absolutely no bueno. This is not a slam against the front of the house personnel, just their system. This is the 2nd (and last time) they will be messing up my appointment times. It's frustrating to have to wait months to see the Dr, and then when you finally get in there (and this is after texts and phone calls a week out confirming my appt mind you) they tell you that your appointment has been lost due to the 'old system' or something. WD's office seems rudderless in a sea of disfunction...and its been since 2020 that I've started to see this decline. I tried hard to stay with you WD but this time you lost me for good. I was not happy with my experience. I spent more time on the intake paperwork than the time the provider spent face to face with me. They charged me over $100 to tell me that they couldn't do anything for me and when I reached out I got a very dismissive, patronizing response from the provider stating he billed me for a low level service and went into excruciating detail about all of the bills he has to pay and how he only makes a fraction of the total of the bill and how he can't just give out free services. Then had the audacity to suggest I take it up with the billing department as if they would be able to change the billing codes he enters. Sending you to billing is basically a cop out that translates to "I don't have any good answers for you so I will make you someone else's problem". I am playing the smallest violin in the world for you and your very successful practice - and I know it is successful because it takes months just to get an appointment and the doctor's office I work at refers patients to you every day. He stated he provided services such as treatment options (either no treatment or services that he could not perform) and a referral that my PCP could have given me (most insurance companies will only process referrals from your PCP anyway). If the doctor that I work for has patients that he cannot treat or help he discharges them and drops the bill because there were no services rendered. If low level service translates to low quality then yes I would agree. As a business owner and health care worker myself I think it's just bad business practices. Next time I will conduct more research about who I choose to be a part of my care team and who I refer folks to in the future. read more

Had a scheduled appointment on 7/21 at 11:30 am PT. Earlier that morning, I received an email to North Pacific Dermatology, the Patient Portal. I was not given any direction beforehand from office staff to complete any online paperwork; just show up 10-15 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment time. Going on the assumption that I needed to complete my profile online before my appointment, I spent about 45 minutes to an hour to complete as much as I could beforehand. I arrived 11 minutes early. The person who checked me in was new who took my DL & insurance card information for their records. She then asked for my copay. After that, she proceeded to hand me a clipboard with two sheets of paper to complete. I told her that I finished all of that online earlier this morning and she asked the front desk person next to her if I still needed to fill them out. And the answer was 'yes.' proceeded to fill out the paperwork and turn it in. Was told to have a seat. Finally, at 12:04 pm I was called by the PA's assistant and she led me to the waiting room where I would be seen. We spent about 5 minutes together and then was asked to undress and put on the robe. That was at 12:11 pm. I waited a total of about 30 uncomfortable minutes - no A/C was circulating in the room and it was very warm. No one came into the room by 12:36 pm. No one popped into to communicate that the PA was running behind. I had a previous engagement at 1:00 pm and could not wait any longer. I changed back into my regular clothes and immediately went to the front desk to ask for my copay refund and shared the reason why. She replied, "Yeah, she runs behind." Told the person if I had known that I wouldn't have scheduled my appointment with her (who was the supposedly only person available when I scheduled my appointment). The front desk person said that they don't handle refunds there and that I'd need to call the billing department. later that day, spoke to the Billing Department and they advised me that the office staff COULD have voided the transaction on their end. the A/P Supervisor was gone for the rest of the day and that I should receive the refund on the next business day. The customer service and new patient experience was very poor. While I know some Specialists are very busy, I'm not a difficult patient and haven't had to wait to be seen by a doctor that long in over 7 years. read more

I can't imagine that if it's this hard to get someone on the phone to book an appointment that their customer service if anything went amiss would be any better. How are there so many good reviews? I did not have a good experience with Dr Markus. He had his mind set before he entered the room. I waited 1-2 months for my appointment, and when I was seen, it was clear that he didn't want to help narrow down the cause of my issue with me or listen to the scenarios of when it happened. He already has his mind set on it's impossible to find the cause of it. I was seen for about 5 minutes and got charged over $100 for it. If you already know it's impossible to find the cause of these issues, why even accept appointment like this? Worst $100 I've ever spent read more

Ive been going for two years and while they have been able to help with my hair loss, my acne is worse than ever. I've told them Retin-A has never worked and that my insurance won't pay for it (thanks age discrimination) but they keep prescribing it. Also, they will not hesitate to assign you a doctor that is not in your network. When you get a huge bill you'll be told that it is on you to check if providers are covered ‍ I also find their staff and providers just...cold and uncaring. This clinic is part of a west coast chain so that could be part of the problem. Also the parking is annoying. You can find better. I'm certainly going to! read more

Unfortunately, the problem is getting to be seen. Once you get seen the service is great. Our provider spent all the time they need with you. we arrived at 4:27 for a 4:30 appt. time. the waiting area had 5 people sitting waiting. we have waited for this particular provider for over 45 mins before. when I asked the front desk how far behind they were running, both receptionists acknowledged that this was common. the people in the waiting area also made comments that they were waiting a long time as well. if this is a common problem, I'm wondering how these very educated professionals continue to over book themselves. it's frustrating and very unprofessional. my daughter is on a medication track that needs to continue for several months so I feel stuck. super bummed about this clinic! read more

My doctor didn't listen to me at all and seemed like he had his mind set even before he came into the room. I don't recall the doctors name, I just remember that he was male. I came in because I wanted to get a bump removed above my knee. The doctor checked me out and recommended to inject it with steroids or something instead. Despite my objections and wanting to remove it, we did that. The bump shrunk, however no less than a month later. The bump came back to its regular size. This was a waste of my time and my money. I would not recommend a place that doesn't listen to you they just have their mind on money. read more

Preformed a procedure with no instructions or information about healing time; leaving a horrible scar. The most unprofessional customer service I've ever had. I've been seeing Dr Arntzen for many years. I will not be going back again. After having my appt for a year (annual checkup), after 30 minute wait, I asked to reschedule. Another 3 months wait?! I was there 10 minutes early, the wait was definitely inconvenient, and then to be so disrespected. Time to find another dermatologist. read more

Despite subpar service from this company in the past, a misdiagnosed cancerous mole which I insisted be removed and sent for biopsy where the basil cell carcinoma was confirmed, I decided to give them another chance for a full body skin check which I do annually since then. I arrived and was immediately informed the Dr was running 30-45 mins behind. No courtesy call of any sort. When I asked why I wasn't informed they stated that they'd just found out, which I find hard to believe. Customer service is a critical aspect to this line of work and they clearly have fallen short too many times. I strongly suggest going elsewhere. read more

Do not waste your time. This office is disorganized, doesn't seem to care about their patient's time, and was a giant pain to deal with. On April 28th, I booked an an appointment through your website scheduler for Friday, May 26th at 10:30am. I received an email confirmation that day. On May 26th I arrived and was told by your receptionist that my appointment was somehow lost in your system and it was not on the books. They were less that apologetic about it, but I figured I would give a little grace and I rescheduled for Wednesday, June 7th. At that time, the office staff scanned my ID, insurance, and sent me a confirmation email. I took the morning off work to attend this appointment - it was extremely frustrating to have this happen. On June 7th, I arrived 15 minutes early for my 2:15pm appointment. My ID and insurance was scanned again and I was asked to fill out some paperwork. Just after 2:15 I was taken back to a room, checked in, and asked to change into a gown for the doctor. 45 minutes later, no one had come into my room. I sat waiting in a stuffy room, in a gown, with no one bothering to even check-in and let me know they were running behind. At 3pm, I decided I could no longer wait. I changed, walked up to the receptionist, and let her know I'd waited over 45 minutes without being seen and needed to leave. She looked up, gave me a thumbs up, and said "gotcha". She did not ask my name, apologize, or express any sympathy for the situation. This office has wasted hours of my time. I expected someone might reach out to me yesterday after the doctor realized I'd left without being seen - but no. This is so unprofessional, disorganized, and disappointing. I will, obviously, go somewhere else for my care in moving forward and suggest you do too. read more

If you live in West Seattle, you don't need to fight through traffic to go downtown to see a good dermatologist. We have some good ones right here in WS! THE ROSES: Knowledgeable, thorough doctors. Pleasant, professional staff. Comfortable waiting room. Takes many insurance plans. THE THORNS: Very small parking lot, but there is usually adequate street parking and a nearby merchants' lot you can use. THE VERDICT: The skin is the body's largest single organ, and it's important to take care of it. Westside Dermatology is a good health partner to have on your team. read more

I had a first visit with Kari Paulson and she was cold, rude, and barely looked at my skin at all. She did not give me any good insight into the condition that she rather frankly stated I had and even when I asked many questions it felt like she gave short or no answers and was rushing to get out of the room. I saw Dr Markus today and it was a great appointment, I was seen very quickly and had a little biopsy done on my leg. Dr Markus was so professional and nice, he gave clear instructions and was so kind, I highly recommend this man and his office staff. Also the front girl was so nice. Also very safe office , Social distancing in the wait area, with requiring masks for staff and patients plus pre-screening. Best office in town. read more

I had a great experience here. I had an appointment with Dr. Markus and it's was very quick and efficient. I also had a laser hair removal appointment with Kaitlyn and she was great! I ended up purchasing a package so I'll definitely be back. They were able to schedule my appointments so that they were back to back so their flexibiloty was greatly appreciated. read more

I am so impressed with Dr. Markus at Westside Dermatology. I had been getting care from different dermatologist (not here) for a spot on my nose that wouldn't heal. I thought it's because I was wearing a mask 50+ hours a week and the rubbing made it difficult to heal. I went to Dr. Markus as a recommendation from my dentist, Dr. Garret Reed, who was concerned that it hadn't healed between cleanings. I'm so glad I did! He was able to take one look at it and recommend a biopsy. He said he'd be surprised if it wasn't basal cell, despite my young(er) age. Sure enough, it came back positive and I had surgery within a month at Polyclinic's MOHS surgery center. Really grateful for Dr. Markus. I'll be sending my mom and family here. read more

Giving two stars for being able to schedule a day of appointment, I was about 10 minutes late and they still saw me so I appreciate that. I saw Dr. Markus or rather his medical assistant? I told her what I was in for and then she went out and told him came back to verify something then left and came back with the doctor . He walked in and immediately started in on a diagnosis without lookIng at my concerns and I insisted on showing him my concerns he was just like oh yeah and kept it moving with his script. Handed me a list of things to do all of which I knew because google. Didn't seem to care for my questions or interrupting him. Offered to refill my current medicine walked out and closed the door behind them. No 'I'll be right back' ...nothing so I waited 5 minutes causally walked out none of the receptionist said anything to me as I left. I've never had acne and this is all very new to me at 32 years old I would've like some more patience and concern about this from an expert on the subject. read more

I wish I could give a better review, but it's better if I'm honest. You see, I visited this clinic last year in June and July. I came in for a scalp evaluation, and not only was this doctor not thorough, but he didn't want to do any evaluations. As I explained the flakes in my hair he passed it off as dandruff even through I don't have typical signs of dandruff. Also, he said "people like you have to deal with this, it's just something in your genes". He just kept giving me vague advice that made no sense for my circumstance to this day as I am writing this review. Nothing works. So, this was not only a waste of my time, but my means as well. The thing most disturbing to my provider is that this clinic has NOT written any notes regarding my visit. UPDATE: I didn't know how to pay the bill online so they got upset with me and complained to a debt collection agency. read more
