Yesterday I got my haircut here because my mom recommend it. I normally get my hair done somewhere here, but the price was cheap. What I didn't realize at the time, I would regret it my decision. At first it started okay. There were a few people ahead of me and they said I had to wait. After a few minutes ago an older Asian lady came up to me and said she would take me. We made small talk as she washed and shampoo my hair. But as soon as I sat in her chair, that's when the problems started. I told her that I wanted her to cut off eight inches. When I tried to stand up and show her exactly what I was talking up, she wouldn't let me out of the chair. So I tried showing her exactly where I wanted it, like around my armpit, and she was like fine, fine. It was like she wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible. When she was done, it was a lot shorter than I wanted. And honestly, I'm okay with it. The only thing I'm not okay with was the customer service. The older Asian lady who did my hair was in such a rush to finish, she didn't listen to what I wanted. She left a piece of my long wet hair on her table with stuff and she didn't blow dry my hair when it was done. I looked like a wet mop. The haircut in general was fine but the customer service was horrible. When you go to a place for some kind of service you are suppose to feel welcomed. I didn't feel that at all. So the next time I get a haircut I'm gonna stick to my regular salon. They may cost more but at least they have better service. I'M NEVER COMING BACK HERE read more

I was told to see Hannah but I ended up with Lam (Liam?Lan?) and she was great. I asked for layers for my mother and showed her pictures. It was a trim with layers. She was FAST and my mom said she liked her hands - she was gentle on an elderly head of hair. My mom was very happy with her haircut as was I. I will go back this week for my own fast, good cut. I read all the reviews and I totally get it. It seems the negative reviews just got a hit or miss moment with the barber/stylist. But I paid attention to yelp (!!!) and I made SURE to ask for one of the younger ladies and not the elder woman. They all seemed efficient and moved people in and out quickly. It is a busy, chill salon. I used to get extremely expensive haircuts where I would get anxiety just to go sit in the room with all these fancy frauds. But this salon feels like your uncle or aunt is in the garage with the scissors and you're just gonna sit in the chair and go eat lunch in the kitchen with your cousins. Sure it doesn't have the BEST smell but you're after a $15 haircut, not a french perfumery. They get the job done without a lot of fuss. They are polite and friendly enough -- they are not giving anyone a yank and pull for a $250 haircut + tip. This is the real world. Get in, cut hair, pay, leave. Nice. read more

Ended up here by default as my other go to spot was closed and would be closed for another couple of weeks. I was hesitant at first but decided to take a chance at a new place and someone new. My fears were soon long gone once I was helped by Tracy. I didn't have an appointment and was considered a walk in. I didn't wait long. There was a grandmother and her grandson who tried to get their hair cut but failed so lucky me. I asked for a regular cut with a number one clipper. Within a few minutes Tracy had me looking like a million bucks - counterfeit at least lol. She even shampooed my hair before cutting! All in all, with a short friendly conversation and discussion about her daughter and my children, I was very pleased with my decision to get my well needed haircut here. I LOVED Holly but she's on vacation until the end of March and it's been 3 months so I needed a haircut now. The owner said "COME IN ANYTIME" I called 8 days in advance. My brother took me today the 13th at 10:30 and the place was packed. "Can you come back in an hour?" So home went. As an extremely disabled senior leaving the house is quite an ordeal. So I called an hour later because I just knew they were lying and they were because now it's 2+ hours. m If you don't mind waiting for 2 hours and the entire place so rude....their customer service is terrible. Place is horrendous. They have some great barbers but a majority are terrible. The old lady (owner I believe) is incompetent, she asked how I wanted my hair and then cut it, all she did was give a #2 on the bottom half of my back. She said she was done so I expressed my unhappiness with the cut and she proceeeded to tell me that I was wrong and that this is how a haircut should be.... If you're okay with a mediocre haircut under $15 this place is great, but if you want a haircut you can feel confident in then you should definitely go elsewhere. P.S. this was not directed at me. A customer walked in and asked what the wait time would be and the lady would not answer her, eventually said "get out, no time for you". This is a hidden gem in a very non-impressive looking shopping center. It does have a bunch of other solid businesses, like Kennedy's Karne, Wrangler BBQ, & Agrusa's Subs. You just have to know that, because they can be easily overlooked. On Tuesday, I suddenly decided that I had to get my hair cut, while I was watching TV. I was watching NCIS, and did the "her hair is really cool, I should get my hair cut like that!" bit. Because I work late, it would have to be Saturday. I drove by the place in Carmel Mtn that I had used several times in the distant past. I couldn't remember the exact name, so I had to Yelp it from the parking lot. Yeah, not good. So I had to come up with a better option. The fancy salons in the area were charging $50+ for a wash/cut/style, so I'm not playing. Modern had great reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I showed up Saturday morning about 10am, and they were already busy. You can tell that this is a family-owned place, and they seem to have tons of regulars. I only had to wait a few minutes, and Lan was available to take me. She did an awesome job! I described what I wanted, and she had no problem making it happen. Wash/cut/style was $15, plus tip. So worth it! I can see why they have so many regulars, considering they do a ton of other salon stuff too. I saw everything from nails to perms, color, brows, and just styling. This review is for a budget hair styling salon - if you check, there is a single dollar sign indicator, so you know you aren't walking into a lounge atmosphere where they serve wine, walk about in stiletto heels and imbue a sense of hauteur couture. This family-owned shop is friendly, efficient and offers good value for the money you spend. Lan was my hairdresser and I think she's great. She's obviously skilled, she has a ready smile, but she doesn't insist on talking unless you make conversation first. She provided me with a great perm and cut for less than half of what I have paid elsewhere in Escondido. Since that's why I left the last place I had used, this place is a gem. I would suggest to the shop keeper that it would be a relatively simple thing to put up barriers between the storage shelves and the shop. Doing this one simple project would give the shop a lot of visual appeal. I woud be willing to help - it's that easy. But that's about the only suggestion I have - their salon isn't in a high-class mall or shopping outlet. I wouldn't remodel beyond the neighborhood. Getting to know the people who own and operate a place makes a great difference in how you feel about where you spend your money. This place is great if you just need a simple cut! I just needed my medium length hair cut to just above my shoulders and it was done! No frills, no hassle. Holly is the best!! She does such a great job with color and she's so sweet! We went to her after being turned away at another salon down the street (Nga salon - see that review). Holly was able to take my daughter without an appointment to put highlights in her hair. She was fast and very affordable!! She doesn't do ombré or bayalage techniques but if you want highlights, frosting or color she will do a great job! She will work with you and if she doesn't get what you like right away she'll fix it! My daughter didn't explain that she wanted a more natural highlight vs chunky and we made a second appointment (3 days later) to add more highlights and she didn't even charge us!! She said she wanted her to be happy with her color. wow!! We will definitely be going back to her for all our hair color needs! By the way, she does great cuts too! read more

I was impressed by the immediate attention to my presence, even though all 4 operators were occupied, and my walk-in wait was only 5 minutes on a Friday afternoon. Got my hair shampooed by an elderly woman believe to be the owner or something. After shampooing she told me to blow dry my own hair while she takes another haircut. Are you freaking kidding me!!!!!
