My wife and I had already done a lot of the planning for our wedding and in accordance with our venues requirements, we hired Nam as our wedding coordinator for a 30 day out and day of service. We were initially very impressed with his initiative to get started ahead of that timeline and to offer to take over many responsibilities that we did not ask or expect him to do. With less than 6 weeks to the wedding he started missing his own self imposed deadlines to get back to us with various tasks which started making us uneasy as we would have already have taken care of them if it was still left to us. My wife had a conversation with him 3 weeks prior to the wedding regarding that issue and his general unresponsiveness, he accepted responsibility and put us at ease. While we really like his calm demeanor both leading up to and during the day of the wedding, he was not on top of the itinerary from the beginning to the end and we both felt like he was simply in over his head. Others stepped in numerous times to do his job (notably our photographer/videographer) and help keep the wedding on track with the timeline we had created. Certain things were asked of him several times and yet neither he nor his two helpers (who we were mostly impressed with) delivered. For a smaller wedding (ours had over 200 people) it is very possible that he would do a good job, we however regretted our decision to hire him. Also, we contacted him a couple times regarding items he/his team did not retrieve from our ceremony and he neglected to follow up. read more

I cannot adequately express what a wonderful job they did with our wedding. It has been a year (I thought I had already written them a fantastic review...) and people are still talking about it (both people invited and others who just heard about it from others)! We were even featured in a pretty huge worldwide publication. As with many others who are faced with planning their first (and hopefully last!) wedding, my hubby and I had no clue where to start, especially in LA (and CA as a whole) where the possibilities are almost endless. We knew what we did not want and some ideas about what we did want but as soon as we started to look, the overwhelming number of choices and decisions to be made on even choosing a venue made us begin to contemplate an elopement. Our friends who were also planning their wedding recommended Nam and his company. We met with him and he created a wedding that we did not even imagine was possible on a non-billionaire budget. I will just get this out there and say that weddings are expensive. When vendors hear "wedding", expect a significant markup...I often wonder how much it would have cost if we booked the venue, etc. by saying we were having a "religious conference" or something of the sort. This is another reason to go with a planner because they can probably get you discounts as they bring a number of weddings to the particular vendor; if you go yourself, you will be a single event for which they might not give any discount. In our case, Nam and his team (including Hovik and Helen...all great people!) were able to negotiate with vendors to give us discounts and/or extras. This was helpful because the budget expanded from our original plan as different ideas kept popping up. read more

We hired Nam and Modern LA Weddings for our wedding on 6/28/14, purchasing the full-service plan. It was one of the better decisions we made for what can be a stressful, confusing, and frustrating process. Nam was extremely well-organized and professional. In presenting the major vendors and providing succinct recommendations, he was superb. My wife and I had tough schedules that Nam fully accommodated. Additionally, he communicated regularly with my wife's father, who was an integral member of the process, and was very amenable to all suggestions and at times being a negotiator for all of us! More importantly, Nam was able to take very general direction (sometimes conflicting, too!) and a high-level description of our vision for the wedding and put together exactly what we wanted. It was impressive to see how well every detail echoed everything we could have wanted and put our vision into reality. I think this was an incredible skill and showed how well Nam could relate to us, take little direction and provide an incredible wedding design. Nam is going to be a standard by which I measure anyone else I ever work with. He was able to handle our demands, our frustrations, acts of God, and anything else that was thrown at him. Not only that, he handled them with grace and a smile on his face. He is someone who truly understands that his job affects the most special day in a couples' life and he takes that responsibility to heart. Nam planned our wedding from start to finish. We initially hired him because of his warmth and impeccable creative eye. What we didn't realize is that he would be so flexible, patient and cheerful the whole way through the process. Nam is able to remain calm during tense situations but also take charge when things need to get done. My husband and i were married in downtown Los Angeles at the AT&T center and we had lots of stuff going on that we wanted to fit into the wedding. We wanted it to be urban (we both love city life), eco conscious, culturally mixed (i'm mexican, my husband is persian) with a traditional Jewish ceremony. Nam was able to seamlessly incorporate all elements. Not only that but our venue was an empty shell where everything, and i mean everything, needed to be brought in (yes, our caterer had to build a makeshift kitchen in the parking lot). Nam made it so that everything felt seamless. On top of all of this my life was hit by tragedy only a few months before our wedding when my mom passed away. I wanted to push the wedding date and Nam was totally understanding and allowed us to change our contract no problem. He was a great partner in helping my husband and I to have a dream wedding. As a former events professional by trade, I was thrilled when it came to time to marry the love of my life and plan the most important event ever (and most personal!) - our wedding. I had a tight budget, a lot of details, a bridal party of 10 girls and this strong desire to weave in customized experiences of friends and family. With just under 2 months left in our wedding planning, we had secured our venue and some of our vendors beforehand but found that we needed a lot of help with what we were missing, including a day-of coordinator. We vetted a few highly-rated planners before deciding to move forward with Nam at Modern LA Weddings. It was clear from our first conversation that Nam totally got us. He had great suggestions and connections with people/vendors that we ended up absolutely loving (especially the florist and photographers)! Day of coordination with Nam and Hovik was total perfection. As the bride, I worried about nothing and was able to enjoy the day with Hovik by my side the whole time, ready to help me with anything and to keep me and the wedding party on schedule. The design and layout of everything at the venue was exactly as discussed (and much of it turned out better than expected). After the event, everything was packed up and either moved to our cars that night or delivered to our home the next week. We had special toasting glasses engraved, and late in the evening, we thought they had gotten swept in with all the other catering glasses... but it turned out, to our surprise, that they were washed, packed and moved to the car. Forget a 5 star rating- Nam deserves a million plus stars! Not only did I gain an extremely talented, attentive wedding planner but I truly felt like I gained a friend and confidant. I hired Nam for design- but I felt like I got so much more. You name it, Nam helped me with it or made it happen! He took my vision and magnified threefold. Our wedding was at the beautiful Los Angeles Athletic Club. Nam recommended the venue. After doing my own research of venue after venue, I finally looked into Nam's recommendation. The venue already stands on it's own (it's unique, beautiful, and perfect for what I was looking for). Our theme was modern, vintage, glam! How cool and unique does that sound?!?! Totally Nam who came up with it based on conversations with my husband and I. My husband has a very modern clean look about him, I tend to like soft vintage things, and I also (pretty random) love anything bling or sequin. Who would have thought Nam could put all the ideas together and make something super wonderful and awesome of out it. From wine bottle wedding favors, to gold succulents, to purple linens, and pomander flower arrangements, my wedding looked like a million bucks. Literally folks thought I spent tons of money. No exaggeration Nam can pull off a million dollar look with total respect to your budget. To top it all off, not only is Nam amazing but his connections are amazing as well! Nam connected us with Justin Element Photography- super duper awesome! His connections with the venue also had us treated like royalty. Folks love working with Nam which brings its own benefits to the table. Aside from the work itself, Nam is such a genuinely nice and accommodating person. He always made himself available, he's patient and understanding, he's helpful, an active and engaged listener and really became my trusted partner during the whole wedding planning process. No kidding, my heart felt heavy on my wedding day b/c I felt like I was losing Nam, like great I've been working with him for almost a year and now what since the wedding is over?!?!? But Nam and I are still in touch. He maintains a great relationship with his clients. We enjoy checking in with each other and I still get excited to see what else he's been working on. He was organized, knew every detail about our wedding (better than we did!), and was quick and patient to respond to our billion emails/questions. He had a large inventory of decor we were able to use such as table numbers, table cloths, easels so we were able to cut some costs there. I first heard about Modern La Weddings through my brother--Nam and Hovik coordinated his wedding a few years ago and it was beautiful. My now-husband and I were fortunate enough to work with Nam and Hovik for our recent May wedding and there are not enough words to explain just how exquisite their work was. My husband and I got married at a historic building venue in downtown Los Angeles, and hired Nam and Hovik of Modern LA Weddings for their day-off coordinating services. They were the best team I can imagine to have there on our wedding day! In the month leading up the wedding, Nam was so organized and made sure every single vendor was confirmed and that all deliveries/pick-ups were scheduled as well.
