I'm a carnivore dating a vegetarian. I (reluctantly) took her to the "old" location for her birthday a few years ago. After shaking off the nervousness of "What will I eat?" I found several options that sounded great. We've now eaten there dozens of times and my "fear" of eating at a place like this is gone. If you're a meat eater know that the staff won't judge you if you don't have a clue what things are. They do a great job of recommending food for the uninitiated. By far the best vegan food I've had in the mid-west. They're menu rotates to keep up with the season's local produce. They always find a way to meet my expectation in both flavor and texture which is always a challenge with vegan food. I've tried 90% of their menu (I've missed a couple weekly night specials) and I'd recommend everything on it. If you're not sure on what to order, go for the Seitan Buffalo "Wings" (they were once removed from their menu and there was public outcry so they were made a permanent menu item...ya). If you're not a fan of spicy-- go for the nachos molo. If you're with a group (larger than 4), try to make reservations. I adore this place. I was traveling to Nebraska for my cousins wedding and found this gem 25 minutes from where we were staying. I guess it is the only vegan place in all of Nebraska. My boyfriend ( vegan) and my mom ( not vegan) decided we should order everything and split it. I cannot tell you my favorite because I enjoyed everything. Such a cute little place! Your beautiful restaurant has become nothing more than an overpriced, perfectly average restaurant providing a place of employment for all of Omaha's inflated and self important hipster snobbery. It isn't an enjoyable experience to dine in or stop in for carry out. You have a horrible staff that insults customers at every turn, to put it mildly. My MIL picked up a catering order this weekend which was: not ready at promised time, met with extremely rude and uncaring service, and the food was really, truly awful. I am embarrassed for you. Overnight work trip to Omaha, before departing I joined some colleagues for dinner, evidently two of them are vegan. So when I found out we were going to a vegan non dairy restaurant I contemplated telling them the airline just called and my flight was now leaving four hours early. I decided to roll with the punches hoping at the time that maybe they would serve steak on the flight home. The restaurant was very comfortable service was very good and our server was quite the free spirit! She was fantastic. I ordered the chimichanga with seitan carnitas and I admit I ordered it blindly having no idea what that was, pico de gallo, cream sauce, beans and guacamole. I didn't have high expectations but everything arrived so vibrant looking and fresh! It tasted delicious!!! The tomato rice was so good I was absolutely shocked how much I liked it. I tried a co-workers BBQ tofu bowl and it was so good I highly recommend adding the avocado. We all shared dessert some sort of snicker pie and raspberry cheesecake. I am NOT a fan of traditional cheesecake of any kind but I would pick this one over a regular one any day. I stopped by Modern Love to get a meal before flying back to CA last Friday and was incredibly glad I did! The spicy peanut tofu bowl was some of the best prepared tofu I've had. Great texture and the flavor was spot on! Also had the lemon lavender bundt cake...I'd give the cake 3 stars and the ice cream that came with it a definite 5 star!!! Modern love is the greatest hits album of vegan food. When you taste it, you will want to devour the whole plate, until your wife gives you that judgemental look because you took the last Buffalo wing. Modern love did not judge me for taking that last buffalo wing. Modern love simply gave me a delicious entree afterwards. Modern love isn't about that life. Modern love will let you say "it must be healthy. It's vegan". After gorging on wings I had the risotto carbonara. It was like putting your senses through the last 10 minutes of yoga class. You know, when they get all weird and spiritual and tell you not to be stressed. I've never actually been in a yoga class but I imagine that's what my stomach went through. It's okay, it's healthy. Full disclosure: I kinda am obsessed with Isa Chandra and her vegan cooking. I planned a little weekend getaway to Omaha to be able to dine here. Often when dining alone, I get treated way more poorly than when I am with others, which was not the case this time round. The service was good! I was sat at kind of an awkward table but I could've asked to move so I made the best of it by people watching. My main server was attendant and checked on me just as often as surrounding tables. I ordered the fried mozzarella (obviously) and it did not disappoint. Then the Mac and Shews which was heavenly. The chz sauce and pecans were amazing but what really made it stand out was the kale and cauliflower. Normally I am not the biggest fan of either of these veggies, but they way MoLo prepared it, just wow. I got the snickers pie to go, and while the crust was a little hard in some areas, the flavors and textures worked well. Decadent vegan desserts are hard to come by. Next time I can't wait to try the shakes and a meat-substitute dish! read more

I wanted to like Modern Love, I really did. This restaurant is super cute and super trendy and is known around Omaha for having delicious vegan food. We started our evening by ordering drinks. I ordered the Schilling passionfruit pineapple cider and my friend ordered the passionfruit margarita... you could say we're fans of passionfruit! Both drinks were beautiful and delicious! Next came the hard part: deciding what to order for dinner. I know absolutely nothing about veganism or vegan food so this part was tricky. The menu was very small which made the decision a bit easier. I settled on the calamari risotto with pesto. The flavor was... interesting. It wasn't necessarily bad but I would not order it again. The consistency was strange and I also wish there were more flavors in my dish. I think I would have enjoyed my meal more if there were options on the menu that did not include "fake" meat and cheese, such as a salad or other plant-based dish. That being said, it must be pretty damn hard to make fake cheese and fake meat... so I give them credit for that. From now on, I think I'll stick to non-vegan restaurants but I am happy that I tried Modern Love! read more

Non vegan here wanting to have something light and consider a better diet. Wow! My husband and I were shocked at how absolutely delicious our lunch was! I got the Chickpea Cutlet Parmesan, no onions on it, it was thin, crunchy and absolutely well paired with the marinara, pesto... yum! My husband, the die hard meat and potato guy, got the Chick'n Bacon Ranch. He said he loved it and would eat it again. I almost fell out if my chair. Great vegan option for Omaha. Bartender (Krista?) was on top of everything and attentive. Mac and shews is probably the best version I have tasted anywhere! And I try it wherever possible. The meatless ball on top was spot on. Brussels sprouts were flavorful, a little tough, maybe needed a bit more cooking but still quite good. Nachos were fun, thick chips if that's your thing. Buffalo cauliflower misses the mark. I'd skip it and opt for something else. The Ruben was quite good, not exciting fries. All in all a great visit and very recommended. read more

Thoroughly impressed with the flavors and menu at Modern Love. I ordered take out on a Saturday night. My order was perfectly packed and easy to pickup. I had the cauliflower buffalo wings and roasted garlic Alfredo. The portions are really generous. Both dishes were winners in my book. The wings did not have me missing chicken and the garlic Alfredo was like a hug from your mom on a cold day. I literally could not tell that none of this had dairy in it. It was so well done. I am so impressed by this little vegan gem. First up was the mozzarella balls made w cashew cheese and oh goodness was it amazing!!! Highly recommend. Then we ordered the Mac and shews which has roasted cauliflower, kale, and fried tofu on top...soooo good-- The cheese sauce on the noodles was perfection. Finally, had the "meatloaf" which was on top a scoop of cauliflower mashed potatoes and had beautiful carrots on the side. The bbq/ketchup sauce on the loaf was drool-worthy. We've been fans of the founder/chef Isa Chandra Moskowitz for many years and we're super happy that our road trip took us through Omaha around brunch time. Breakfast potatoes, a seitan bacon sandwich with French toast bread, and a spicy breakfast wrap were delicious and satisfying, if very filling, fare at out 2:15pm stop. So as a devout carnivore I had my reservations about this place(no pun intended). All vegan all the time. I was starving at the time with noun just and all day training/meetings I was skeptical I could survive without some serious protein via meat. I was pleasantly surprised! We all ordered basically a app and a small entree Nd shared alike. Had a couple glasses of wine as it was half priced glasses during happy hour! I got the mushroom special and the nachos. Mushrooms were food and the sauce that came with them was the best part for sure. However, the nachos were a cut above. The cheese was cashew based I believe and what looked like meat was actually walnuts. Outside of that it is all the things you expect with nachos. These were awesome and I was really full! The table ordered a dessert and I had a bite and it was very delicious. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful with the menu. We didn't wait very long for anything really and always had plenty of water. Only thing I didn't like was the name trickery. Saying buffalo cauliflower wings or mozzarella but not. It is a pet peeve I have with these places. It is vegan so stop calling it things that it is not. Stop pandering to the trends or trying to be hip. Just tell me what it is and if I ask why say it is a substitute to X. Anyway, rally delicious and cool little space. Made me rethink my vegan opinions and stretch my horizons. My new favorite place to eat. I always get the nachos and chocolate cake! It's so hard to find a place that is fully vegan. But if you've been searching for your new vegan spot or you're just curious, give it a try! It's so delicious. One downside, they don't open till 1600 most days and don't have breakfast till Sunday. I went to Modern Love for the first time for my SIL's bachelorette, and the service, food, and drinks were phenomenal! They have a rotating menu and I can always find something new to try. I'm not vegan, but this restaurant was quickly added to our rotation bc our visits always bring us joy. First off let me say I love that vegan food has come to Omaha and I often eat vegan food but I was not overly impressed with this restaurant, especially after seeing all the reviews. It started off with the service. We made reservations for 7 PM for a party of 3 and were not sat until after 7:30. I did call and say we would be a few minutes but we walked in the door at 7:05 and had to wait over 20 minutes for a table. Our server came up to our table and did not even introduce himself or ask if we had been before. I feel like if you are going to open such a unique restaurant you need to train your staff to engage with customers and explain the food. I did not even realize that the chef of this restaurant wrote her own vegan cookbook till the waitress who came to take our plates let us know. We ordered the nachos and seitan wings for an appetizer and the steak portobello salad so we could all try a little of everything. Warning: The nachos and wings were very spicy. I like heat but just be warned there is some spice in both these dishes and a very small amount of ranch to cool it down (if you get extra ranch you are charged a dollar). The heat of the wings took over the flavor and all I could taste was spice. The nachos were fine but all of us agreed their was not a ton of flavor besides spice from the chile sauce and cilantro from the guacamole. I would NOT recommend the salad. I love a good salad but this one was dry with a strange earthy flavor from some spice they put on top. The poblano was very tiny and you were really only eating mixed greens. Not worth 10 dollars and was very subpar. Overall, I think this is a great way for people to become exposed to vegan cooking and I love how the chef makes a lot of her own food but I will not be running back. I was really looking forward to eating here and was traveling to Omaha. I have all Isa Chandra Moskowitz's cookbooks. I went Friday November 4th 2022. Ordered the Oyster Mushroom Fried Chikin. It was amazing! The oyster mushroom was large, juicy and tender and the breading was extra crunchy, satisfying and very flavorful (so reminiscent of the real thing it was almost scary!) The mashed potatoes were thick, homey, chunky and authentic and and the gravy was rich, rosemary laden and sublime! The purple cabbage slaw was spot on and so fresh! I couldn't wait to have it one more time before leaving Omaha so I ordered the same thing on Sunday night November 6th and it was just the opposite!!! Oh No!! Why?!!! So disappointing!! It burst my bubble! The Oyster mushroom was tough and dry. I had to saw it apart with a knife and so chewy I could hardly eat it. The mashed potatoes were literally brown mush from being warmed over too many times and tasted terrible. Gravy and the breading were very average and nearly flavorless!For a $21 dish I expect more! Quality was horrible. I asked my server at the bar if they had been busy that day wondering why the gaping disparity and she said no. Friday was a madhouse and though I waited 50 minutes for my to go order that night it was off the chain good. Not sure why the food was so much worse on a slow night?! You would think the opposite! I also tried the cauliflower wings on Friday. Very generous portion but a little sweet for my taste. The much anticipated Mac and Shrews was a little drier than expected and I didn't think the fried tofu on top lent much to the dish. The Shitake bacon was a good addition. I was a little underwhelmed by it to my surprise. Not bad but not great. On Sunday I also tried the chocolate peanut butter shake, caloric but good. Would try a different flavor next time. In retrospect I wish I had sent back the oyster fried Chikin dish on Sunday. It made my last memory of Modern Love a really disappointing one. I almost brought my non vegan family members with me on Sunday to show off how amazing this dish was and I am SO SO glad I didn't!!! It would have been embarrassing and they probably never would have tried vegan food again!!! One other thing is that the lobby looked a little dirty and shabby and that is your first impression when you walk in. My understanding is that Isa Moskowitz is at the Omaha restaurant 25% of the time and spends the other 75% of her time at the Brooklyn NY Modern Love. Maybe that's why the Omaha Modern Love is a hit and miss. I would give them another chance in the future because the atmosphere is nice and I am so glad she brought her restaurant to Omaha (and I was very happy to see it's a well received busy place)!! In a city noted for steaks I am thrilled that a vegan restaurant generates just as much interest! Just needs quality checks and probably better management for consistency. I will update my experience next time I visit. read more

The price point was a bit high and the parking situation was awkward but I know the restaurant business is hard. Always an interesting menu with seasonal updates. Everything I've tried has been delicious, from the nachos to the tempeh bowl and Mac n 'chews. I even got my dad, a huge meat lover, to eat here a couple times and he enjoyed it immensely, too. This location is much better than the old space. However, the tables along the main bench wall can be a bit close to each other. I guess that's fine if you like communal tables and eating with strangers. read more

I'm not even vegan, and I love this restaurant! The avocado garlic bread is probably the best thing i have ever eaten, I could legit eat it every day. My husband LOVES meat, like he hardly ever eats anything besides chicken, and even he loved the bbq bowl. Just as a heads up, it is a good idea to make a reservation before you go, they will do their best to seat you if you don't have a res, but its a smaller venue and they do fill up quickly!
