Ive been a member for 18years. Modo was once a cooperative now they are a business scratching money from their customers in constant new and innovative ways. Not to mention staff are unpleasant, nasty and snarky. The patronizing type that believe they are always right. Choose anything but modo. Btw their fobs dont open doors for up to 5 minutes so if you are in an underground parking lot consider your safety. My experience and perception of the service quality is basically summed as "consistently declining" during my years as a member. My Observations are based on types of vehicles available near me, and how often I was unable to access them due to competing bookings. While I don't necessarily fault Modo for having active members (this is a good thing) I do fault them for failing to address availability as appropriate with respect to customer scaling/behaviour, within the context of my personal experience. Also something I found to be concerning/dubious: there is a red Mazda MX-5 you can theoretically book, that is near the convention centre in Vancouver. It's a convertible model, not practical by any sense but definitely a fun experience. However, should you wish to book it during the warmer months? Good luck to you, I was never able to get it even for one evening during the summers. Which brought on another question for me, why offer this type of vehicle at all? Is this servicing the core objective for a mainstream car sharing cooperative? How about the ethical questions this raises for me, to which I find myself frowning often when the thought occurs. Is it appropriate for the membership to be obliged for subsidizing someone's pleasure craft over the summer? Are all of the bookings one individual? Or are they many? If the former, why aren't there restrictions in place for more equal opportunity to make a reservation? None of these questions have been answered for me by Modo or otherwise. This combined with significant increases to cost, became untenable, but the final straw in my case was really down to what an interaction felt like when I needed to call in on the rare occasion. I believe I have maybe called in 4 times, and 3 of those occasions the person I spoke with gave me an impression of being uptight, arrogant, and disinterested in treating me with any sense of respect or appreciation. While I was a fan of Modo for awhile I last found they are an absolutely ruthless company with no customer service. I wasn't able to pay a bill for a van I rented and they sent me emails but never called me to tell me about it. I only found out it was in collections when the collection company called me. I paid the invoice right away once I knew. Then the company refused to reinstate my service, saying I was PERMANENTLY suspended. EVO has much better customer service, they have helped me out when I accidently got a ticket on first offense and have completely waived damage when I reported a small accident. I like Vancity, but MODO is terrible. Would recommend avoiding them as they don't care about people. read more

AMAZING Customer Service. We've been modo members for over 10 years but in the last few years, we rarely used the service as we bought a car. On our recent trip to Kelowna, we decided to book a modo again. When we got to the car, we couldn't open it. We phoned Modo and the customer service agent walked us through troubleshooting. It turns out we grabbed the wrong fob, which was attached to a cancelled account. He made several suggestions of what we could do, but at the end he had to hunt down the number for the disabled fob, attach it to the active account and update the booking and we could finally open the car. It probably took close to 20 minutes to deal with us. We greatly appreciated his tenacity in solving this problems and it definitely saved us a lot of headache looking for alternate transport on short notice. Thank you! read more

I was a plus shareholder member for two and a half years and was really a fan despite a) the price hikes that stopped justifying the $500 share buy and b) the bizarre pricewalls that made the EV options more expensive (we're STILL making electric cars only available for the rich customers I see). Customer service was informal but usually understanding. The availability was good for any metro resident. Then, I made the mistake of reporting that I backed into a pole. Despite the damage being a coin sized pain chip, their estimates for repairs were conveniently well above the $1000 threshold for the damage pool I was paying into. This warranted some internal policy where I now could not continue using them until I paid an *additional $1500 to be withheld from me for two years. They apparently have a collision insurance option that would have made this moot; I had assumed I received this with the Modo Plus shareholder membership. Apparently no, when one buys the highest membership they do not, in fact, receive collision insurance. Interesting. I will of course have to abandon this service, as I simply don't have fifteen racks laying around to give this company. Their final stance to me was this is how a coop is run: everyone is treated the same. I love coops and am a fan of studying them, so it's very important that to anyone reading you understand: no, this is not at all how a coop works. A coop mitigates revenue loss by finding ways to spread the loss over the membership. They do NOT avoid the risk of a profit loss at the expense of losing a longstanding member of said coop. That's not "running a coop" , that's "being a greedy dummy who can't exist one second of their reality outside of being in the black without their fee fees being hurt. You can screw me over and you can have dumb policies; I in fact understand and appreciate them in the context of the clearly corrupt ecosystem that ICBC have established in this province. But don't denigrate coops by blaming your awful service on them. Anyhoo , can't recommend the service based on this experience. A real shame. read more

Horrible CS. The man we spoke with was very rude, brash and worst of all, blatantly racist towards my Asian partner (I am the driver btw). We just wanted a car to take to Whistler for a couple of days and we got a lesson and stereotyping thrown our way instead. There is no bother to take this up with their company as when we tried, we never heard back from anyone through email or phone. I have been a member for two years. There a lots of cars, great customer support. Also customer support answers you instantly if you have a current booking, so if you are in emergency situation you don't waite in the line. Be aware. I have noticed spurious charges from modo amounting to over $200 for trips I definately did not take. If you are new to this service, this amount would suggest that I kept the vehicle for a day or two - likey two or more. I have only used the car to pickup grocieries here and there for an afternoon at a time...something really off about this company. Be careful and review your CC often..even that may not protect cause once they have the money, good luck trying to get a review process - your word against theirs I guess. Good luck! :) read more

Avoid at any cost. An absolute joke of a company with shocking customer service and sneaky charges to take every cent they can from you. They claim to be run by members, for members, with fairness and transparency at the heart of what they do. This is total BS. That's without the sneaky charges. $10 charge just to try and sign up which isn't refunded ever. A $30 charge for returning the car even one minute late. A $500 dollar membership fee which is held onto for 3 months for no reason or without any justification, and arrogant, rude and unsympathetic staff who could care less, despite them losing hundreds of customers and thousands in lost revenue. All this combined with the fact they changed the pricing structure from June without notifying users meant many were hit with higher charges and bills. read more

There are so many things wrong with this rental company. I use modo because I have a business. They tell you you can book in advance so I did. I booked for a few days in advance in Sept and Oct, cars I would need to drive products to and from my studio. On top of what I have pre-booked I tried to book for a small product pick up at the wholesalers and I couldn't book, I had to pay an extra $40-$50 dollars to use a car on top of the rental. I asked them about that and they said I reached a limit and had to pay more. WTF! They dont have that in their faqs -- so sneaky!! Other problems: I just called them to get my account activated as I had a problem with my bank and was made inactive. I have a booking for tomorrow. I called them as I resolved my banking and I talked to someone and she said she couldn't reactive my account because the technical team were the only ones that could do it. She said that they were in a meeting and that i should call back in 30 mins. I called back 30 mins and another person picked up and they said that the team had already gone home and that he couldn't help me. I told him what the lady told me and he said that that is a mistake as they were in during the 45 mins about the time I called. I told him that I had a booking for tomorrow and if I cant activate my account what does that mean? He said they come in at 9 ish some time ( he couldnt even tell me the exact time ) and that I should call then. I told him I have a booking for 7:15am what does that mean then, if I cant access the car. I dont want to get charged for my booking. He said he would cancel it since i wouldnt be able to use the car anyways. I told him I dont want to get charged for the time, since I couldnt get a hold of someone to help me. He said he would leave a note not to charge me. He canceled it but I was still charged a small fee plus tax! WTF!!!! So upsetting! Don't use this company -- they should have a team that can access your information or make your account active once your put in your new credit card info. They can make better adjustments to the system, they can let you know that if you book a date by accident and dont show up to send you a reminder that you have a booking in progress so you can do something about it. For the amount of money you will spend on this company, might as well get a loan and get a decent car! read more

Shame on YOU! Stay away from this scam company, they are only after the money and have ZERO respect for their clients! After being a member (modo PLUS) for 4 years, In Jan 2021, I requested to drop out of the damage pool program for 2021 as I wasn't planing to use Modo frequently the following year. They told me that's not possible and they can't refund me because it's an insurance! I was very surprised because the amount was due and was not even paid yet! Then, they SUSPENDED my account because of that! I still kept quite and today I realize they have been CHARGING me an INTEREST rate of 1.25% PER MONTH over the past 6 months for that $50 damage pool! Seriously !? Being a member for 4 years, I 'd say this company is a scam! They are just looking for a way to charge you for stupid reasons! Not sure how they feel about themselves but I'm very disappointed and embarrassed by how a Canadian company is operating here at home! Shame on YOU! Joined Modo prior to the pandemic when I was working in an office near the Modo office. I was supposed to pick up my FOB, but the pandemic struck and I forgot all about it. Fast forward to last month and I did not recall that you needed a FOB to access a vehicle. I needed an SUV on my wedding day to transport gear (it was a covid-safe outdoor ceremony) so I went online and booked a Modo--which I was allowed to do even though I found out later it says on my file that I didn't pick up my FOB. First of all, I tried using the code to get into the garage where the car is five times before I had to call Modo for help, and even then it took two more tries. Then I couldn't get into the vehicle, so I called Modo again who confirmed it was because I didn't have a FOB. Why was I allowed to book this car if you knew I didn't have a FOB?! I was 15 minutes late to my own wedding because of this. read more

I can't believe no one has reviewed Coop Auto yet! Well, let me tell you, I'm a huge fan! We joined in 2004, and never looked back. Living downtown, the Coop Auto is the ideal solution - no need to pay for insurance, gas, parking, BCAA member, maintenance...it's all part and parcel of this great organisation! We use cars to pick up friends from the airport, visit friends who *gasp* don't live downtown, do shopping at the dreaded Ikea, and dine out in the burbs. It's brilliant, because you can use the car for as little as an hour, or for as long as you need. Everything is booked online. It's local and non-profit (unlike Zipcar, which is international and corporate), and as green as you can get while still utilising an internal combustion engine. They also have at least one Prius and a Mini (the latter of which I use for work-related drives). Ask me if you want more information! I have had a great experience with Modo over the 8 years of being a member. I have driven everything from compact cars to cargo vans for moving. I have found the on-line customer service to be prompt and helpful. When I was hit while driving a Modo car, Modo worked with ICBC and my credit card insurance to resolve the damage claim. Modo is a co-op, not a private company. The members get what they put into Modo. Keep the vehicles clean, report accidents and damage, and be responsible and you will have a good experience. read more

Useful service with transparency issues. Cancellation is 50% the trip cost - say you book $100 trip and change your mind 5 minutes later. That will cost you $50. The trip estimate generally has to be doubled to get the real trip cost. I once left my backpack in the car ad it took them 20 minutes to open the car, then they charged me for a trip despite telling me it would be free. read more

Honestly, i was so happy when i got modo's membership because of its reasonable price and convenience. Now with the new price changes starting from June 1st, 2019, it says that we'll have to pay $2.50 for a 30 minute ride, but do not forget the part where it is going to charge you $0.40 for every km. it is not as reasonable as it was earlier.. im not at all happy. read more

MODO without substantial evidence charged this member $955 for a slight scratch in the bumper of a rental. Their collusion with the auto body shop is such that when pictures of the scratch were uploaded for an estimate to another body shop( in business fo 35 years) an estimate was given by that body shop for $250 at most to repair the scratch. MODO continues to charge me for membership, but am disallowed rental of a vehicle while the amount of $955 remains in dispute. To top this extortion from MODO, unbelievably, I was told that an anonymous note serves as evidence to ICBC, though the note did not originate from the claimant, but from a "witness" for the claimant. The claimant's report to ICBC would fold like a cheap lawn chair in any court of law. The claimant was not present at the alleged time of the incident. read more

Wish I could give this local company more than one star, but just because they are a local company with cheaper rates, does not justify or excuse their disappointing customer service. We signed up and almost paid for the plus membership to buy into the shares of $500 to support a co-op but we decided to hold off after having some issues signing up. My partner called in, and he was told one thing, then I called in, was told another, never got to use the car, and in the end, decided to just rent a car from Enterprise for longer trips and signed up for Car2go and Evo instead for day trips which was smooth and easy. A lot of time was wasted with modo on the phone and we decided to cancel the membership after dealing with a very rude "member loyalty" rep in the end which was the last straw. We would happily pay more for professional service. (Also note, this company will hold onto your shares of $500 dollar up to 90 days before you get your money back, with no real reason, but I had to ask twice before the rep could give me a clear answer. Two of my co-workers cancelled their memberships and did not receive their money until exactly 90 days later!) read more

Sold my car in June and this service has simplified my life as I no longer need to maintain a car, pay insurance or worry about unexpected mechanical costs. When I phone customer service rep's have been prompt to respond and all have been very helpful. I've found the cost to be very reasonable. read more

I was hoping to give a zero star, cuz this is such a bad car and now I'm forever scarred, we can't go very far, I can't spend my money from my money jar, so so low is my new modo bar. It was also pouring rain, and oh what a pain, it made me insane. We were forced to pull out our own drive, just to spend half an hour bringing this modo alive, oh finally it thrived. Modo was decent until they switched their pricing structure, meaning I have to pay almost double what I used to for longer trips. Just rent a car. they also have issues with customer service, one of the cars I went in had issues and I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes with them to try to get me into a new car- and they only gave me a credit of $8 even though I wasted an hour of my time trying to get the car to work. They blamed it on the FOB which was not true because it worked on the other cars! Shitty company, I will be switching over to EVO as soon as possible. read more

It was a little emotional giving up our faithful but ailing Civic last fall. We traded her in for a nice fat credit with Modo (via the Scrap-It program), and never looked back. A couple of phone calls and one visit to the Modo office in downtown Vancouver, and boom, you've got a key to a whole fleet. I find the booking system just dead-easy to use, although it does take some getting used to planning how long you'll require the car for. However, if I have underestimated, it is easy to find out on-the-go if I can extend and add time, either through the mobile website or by calling customer service. There are only a few cars in my area yet, but they're all nice and new, mostly 2012 or 2013 Toyotas. Other members here seem to leave the cars clean, and the cars are so smooth to drive compared to my quirky old gal. Plus there's a raft of benefits, like parking in resident-only zones in Vancouver (yay, I'm special) and not having to pay tolls on the Port Mann or Golden Ears. I love not having to monitor gas prices or renewing insurance, since it's all included in flat hourly rates (I'm on the casual plan). You can go up to 150 km in a day before per-km charges kick in, which just about gets me to Bellingham and back. UPDATE: As of April 2014, 200 km is included. Yeah! Customer service has been great whenever I've needed to call - they answer quickly and the voice at the other end of the line has been, without fail, friendly and efficient in solving the problem. I like that Modo is local, too. The only downside right now is that the nearest cars are a bit of a walk from my front door, but I am hopeful that as more people in this fast-developing area discover carsharing, I'll get more vehicles in my 'hood. read more

If you were still in college, the Cooperative Auto Network might be like the cool upperclassman friend you could go to for favors. "Oh, you need a ride this weekend? Hey, no problem!" Always gracious and never begrudging, CAN's there for you when you need them. And I don't know about your college friend, but CAN definitely isn't just trying to get in your pants. I'm still amazed by what a joy everyone at CAN is to deal with. They're happy to transact business by email and messages are returned within hours; phone calls are answered quickly and the operators are friendly, helpful, and efficient; everything in the office seems to work exactly like it should. It's refreshing. And, cars: they've got 'em. They're not all brand shiny new (though some of them are!) but they're in your neighborhood (-- well, they're in mine, at least) and ready to roll. They've got everything from Smarts and Minis for quick grocery jaunts to minivans and pickups for more serious Craigslist or IKEA furniture dealing kind of situations. Reserving a car could hardly be easier -- just a few clicks on the website or a quick phone call and you can stroll over to the vehicle and drive off into the sunset, free from worries about insurance paperwork, maintenance, and parking space leases. And, like how that friend of yours would let you jump the queue at the door or at the bar if they saw you across the room, there are other perks of CAN membership. You get discounts at a couple of "traditional" agencies for longer trips (Discount will waive the underage driver fee for CAN members, which is a *huge* deal if you're under 25) and group rates on annual Translink passes, dental and extended health insurance, and more. But how's it compare to Zipcar?, you might wonder. For starters, they have different fee structures: Zipcar has an annual fee and a high per-hour rate with mileage included, while CAN has a refundable one-time deposit and a much lower per-hour rate with additional mileage fees. CAN's made more sense for me but YMMV (as it were). One important benefit that Zipcar has over CAN is that a Zipcar membership will work in any city where Zipcar operates -- if you can drive in Vancouver, you can also hop in a car while you visit Seattle, SF, Boston, or wherever. CAN only lets you roam as far as Victoria, but if you're okay with that you get to feel good about supporting your own local free-range, organic car co-op. I've also noticed that CAN has cars spread out better through Vancouver's neighborhoods, while Zipcars tend to be clustered in parking lots owned by large operators. Joining CAN was one of the best decisions I've made since moving to Vancouver -- it's rare that anything makes me want to evangelize this furiously, but well, here we are! I'm still grateful that my college friend was there to go on booze runs for me before I could buy my own, but finding the CAN community has helped ease the sting of graduation. ;) read more

If you go join into the modo plus and put in $500. Don't expect to get it back anytime soon if you want to cancel. I cancelled my membership after a year. The guy told me that I should expect my refund into my credit. I called two weeks later and the guy said wait another 2 weeks because it usually takes 3-4 weeks. I called again after 4 weeks. The guy now said it takes 3 months. Do not expect to get your deposit back! Edit: They replied back. Hi Richard, we apologize that you've received inconsistent messages around your refund when you were terminating your account. Our policy is to refund within 90 days (or sooner if we can). I have passed your message on to our office manager and your shares have been now fully refunded. Still think Modo is awesome BUT there have been changes in the past few years to avoid people taking advantage of the system (i.e., not returning the car on time or taking a car when they aren't signed up for it etc) so be forewarned that if you think you might be late...CALL THEM! They will add another 30min for the usual rate (a few dollars). Because if you don't, you are going to get dinged! Same goes for fob-ing out...if you return the car but do not fob-out...they will consider it not returned and charge your account. All these additional fees may seem excessive to some but really it's just to ensure people follow the rules so that all members have access to a car, with gas, when they signed up for it. Coming from someone who several times in the past got to a car spot with no car...these changes are a good thing. read more

I signed up for Modo 3 years ago. I used it a few times, but didn't really feel it was right for me. At that time, I guess I was on a promotion with no monthly rate, but as far as I understood, there was no monthly rate!! I didn't think it was necessary to close my account so long as I wasn't using it. Fast forward 3 years later, and I just received an invoice for $120 dollars and a notification that I would be forwarded to a collections agency. I had NOT been receiving monthly invoices or any sign that I was accruing this debt. I am most upset that when I phoned to express my shock and seek an explanation, I was spoken to abruptly and unsympathetically, as if I was trying to somehow take advantage of THEM! Very poor customer service, and frankly...shady management of customer accounts. I would give 0 stars if I could. As far as the actual carshare... I wanted to love it because it is a local company, but I found it expensive compared to other companies, and it was not the most convenient. You pay for the car the entire time it is away from its home parking spot, which, to me, is not as convenient as the services that allow for 1-way trips. Also, there just aren't enough vehicles in their fleet. More often than not, when I wanted to book a car, there were none remotely close to me. read more

I made a reservation on their online system for the following day, but their system accidentally changed the reservation to the current day. I was not aware of the change, and ended up being charged $60 for the entire day. Since I was unaware of the change the car was not moved the entire time, but they made absolutely no attempt to contact me, or cancel the reservation. When I contacted customer service the following day, they told me that I had to pay the full price, despite the fact that the error was completely their fault. You have to be extremely careful when booking with this company, because they won't hesitate to completely screw you over. I cancelled my membership as a result. Kudos to Modo for making this system work. I can't imagine the amount of hard work it took to develop a car-sharing network from nothing - the legal implications alone are an astounding accomplishment! I've been a member of CAN/Modo since 2008. My total for the last 3 years is approximately $2100 and I use the cars 2-3 times a week (sometimes less). You can't run a car for that in a year. The cars are usually in great shape and are clean. If they're not, one call to head office will resolve the issue. Any issues I've had have been the result of inconsiderate members. The Modo staff are always friendly and helpful. There are 60+ cars in the West End alone; I've rarely had trouble booking a car. As well, there are cargo vans and trucks when you need specific vehicles. (I'm still dreaming that motorbikes will be next ;) The cost of booking a car is far cheaper than owning but expensive enough (that's right!) to cause one to consider when they actually need to drive. Not only does Modo accord with my environmental philosophy, but it resonates with my social outlook as well. Zip cars and Car-2-Go are "For Profit" companies (the latter owned by Daimler-Chrysler). Modo remains, I believe, a legal cooperative (confirmation anybody?) with profits going back into the system. Oddly enough, this makes me feel a little more connected to my community. A Cautionary Tale: despite past conflicts in the executive, I hope that Modo continues with its community focus and endeavours to inoculate itself from the arrogance that often breeds in highly-successful organizations. read more

I switched from Zipcar to the Car Co-op a month and a half ago, and I am so glad I did! Car Co-op is so much easier to deal with! When you call, you speak to a person immediately or face a very brief phone tree. If you email, you get an email back from a real human, same day. Excellent and pleasant customer service. In my location, the selection of Car Co-op cars is much better than Zipcar, but that's just because I live by city hall, which uses Car Co-op cars as city cars. So, you need to do your homework and figure out what the coverage is like in your neighborhood. Car Co-op is a little cheaper than Zipcar for a quick 3 hour run in town to Ikea and Costco, and much cheaper for longer trips. For example, I took a Mini Cooper out to Tofino for three weekend days, a trip of about 560km. It was $215 for Car Co-op, would have been closer to $300 with Zipcar. However, Car Co-op themselves say that sometimes it's cheaper to rent. They have some kind of discount relationship with Enterprise and Dollar/Thrifty and they have a calculator on their website that shows when it's cheaper to rent and when it's cheaper to Car Co-op. Totally glad I made the switch, Car Co-op is the way to go! read more

A credit a had with this company was not applied to my account in the way that I was informed. The concept is good, great actually and I wish I loved the company ....but. The management and customer service is horrendous. If you do not encounter any issues I think Its a great idea, If you find yourself needing customer service or communication with management you will be super disappointed. Its a smart concept built on tech and that's where they shine, human communication tho - not in their wheelhouse of skills. period The reviews all indicate the same issues, little to no customer service and weakness with admin and billing. They may be local and cheap and have a great booking app and the most cars of any car share available in Surrey but after their hidden costs, I spent more in 5 trips than I would have by renewing my vehicle insurance at my 43% discount rate. So I renewed my insurance and cancelled my Membership. The hidden costs are stupid and the customer service people won't believe you because according to them, their electronic system is infallible. Also, they hold onto your $500 for 90 days after you cancel and don't give it back until exactly 90 days expire less their admin fees. Not worth it. read more

Not too long ago, I was looking wistfully at the shiny fleet of Car Modo vehicles in a parking lot while waiting for someone to return the Zipcar I had reserved. Didn't end up getting to my appointment that day, as there was no sign of the driver 45 minutes past my start time and Zipcar didn't have any available cars nearby. So, started my search for something more reliable. Didn't go with Modo in the past because it didn't make sense for me - the $500 up front required, how they charged you by km, etc., but I've found out that they've since created Casual memberships. Casual membership is a lot like Zipcar membership - a small fee up front, charging by the hour, free gas, but there are a few key differences: Pluses for Modo: Modo charges a flat rate of $7.50/hr for any vehicle of theirs, whereas rates for Zipcars start at $8/hr for their clunkier cars and go steadily on up for their higher-end vehicles. Modo also has a larger number of cars - there are several locations within a block's radius from where I live, whereas Zipcar eliminated their closest cars from me some time ago and now I need to hoof it 4-5 blocks to get to one of them. Negatives for Modo: They only offer the first 150 km free, as opposed to 200 km for Zipcar. Still, any more than 150 km, it would make more sense to rent a car from Enterprise Car Rentals (I love them), anyway. Zipcar allows you to scan in 15 minutes before your reservation start time, Modo doesn't. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!!! MODO IS THE COMPANY WITH THIS MODO "THE LAST DRIVER PAYS FOR EVERYONE MISTAKES PERIOD!!!" 1. Cars always dirty, stinky, few times I see a SNUT on the steering wheel and a driving chair, yes people dig for snut and put it on or beside the chair or the steering wheel HOW GROSS!!! Every other time cars smell of weed or smoke and if you don't report it the next person will call and Modo charges you a $50 cleaning fee. 2. If you get inside the car and didn't look that the gas level is below 25% then you drive 10 minutes and leaves the car, the next person comes in and calls Modo, you get a $50 charge for not refiling the car. 3. Modo key fob DOES NOT TURN OFF anything inside the car, so if you forget to turn off the light inside the cabin and it will drain the battery the next day you get an email from Modo with a $50 fine for draining the battery. They say report low fuel and we will deal with it! I did report it after I drove 15 min trip and come back, then they told me it's my fault for not dialing before I drive. I booked a car for 30 min, knowing my trip is only 8 min both ways, they want me to sit down not start the car and call them to waste 20 minutes on the phone to report low fuel then my trip will become 1 hour. In the end, after driving I walked back to the car and paid an additional $$$ for time to drive and refuel the car. So my initial 30 min rent cost me 1.5hrs all because I reported low fuel after I drove (YES I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE LOW FUEL BEFORE LEAVING AND IT DIDNT HELP). I knew that is a problem and I just didn't have time to talk on the phone I had to drop off someone to work for god sakes. I snapped photos with timestamps then drove and comeback, called Modo, and was still charged for the low fuel. Modo customer service said I WAS THE LAST WHO DROVE THE CAR, PHOTOS OF PRE DRIVE DID NOT MATTER. I could go on and on and on, there is NO WAY you can inspect every vehicle with a camera recording dash. fuel gages, battery level, key ignition, under the car, on top of the car, inside the engine before driving, and after driving it's simply IMPOSSIBLE. I love Modo! My quality of life has definitely gone up since I started carsharing. So much better than owning. So great to have an option when the Skytrain or bike won't work. I definitely get to the beach and mountains a lot more these days. #LetsModo read more

If I could give 0 stars I would it's a joke of a company that is poorly managed with hidden costs, if your looking for a ride share use the car2go or get a taxi it will work out a lot cheaper. They forward me to a collection agency for a problem they caused not me. Don't give this guys your money. read more

We recently cancelled our Modo membership after a very frustrating experience with Modo that cost us hundreds of dollars in unnecessary fees. Due to a misunderstanding, Modo remotely locked us out of our rental vehicle and sent a modo representative to pick it up. Although we were beside the car the entire time, the modo service rep on the phone would not unlock the car, and we had to wait with it for an hour until the modo employee arrived. When the modo employee arrived he was rude and angry, spoke in a raised voice, did not allow us to explain, and told us that we were never allowed to use a Modo car again. We wrote a letter to modo complaining about the incident and to it's credit, Modo did respond, admit fault and apologize. However, they still dinged us with HUNDREDS of dollars in fees for the incident. Very frustrating, especially since the late fees, etc would not have been incurred if Modo hadn't locked us out of the car. Other complaints about the Modo service are that the vehicles are usually in very dirty condition, and the key fob system is unreliable. On multiple occasions the key fob would not open our vehicle, and we had to wait in the rain and call modo to have them remotely reset the system to let us back in. There are far better options than Modo - both ZipCar and Car2Go have been far better experiences in terms of customer service, modern low mileage vehicles, etc. read more
