I remember once coming in to see Dr. Hentek with a chest and sinus infection. She saw me, gave me a perscription and left the office. When she came back in the exam room, she noticed I was in pain and couldn't stand. She asked me about it and wrote me a perscription for that as well. . Dr. Hentek saw that I was in pain and treated me for that distress. I'm thankful for her genuine concern. I realized that it didn't occur to me to ask her about anything for my back because I'd been told that the pain would pass by another physician and that I should just take Alieve. I'm a person of color and as such, I've experienced doctors who are hesitant to perscribe pain medication so I subconsiously didn't ask even though I was in the doctor's office. I have changed general physicians though. I had a visit with Dr. Hentek after I'd lost a significant amount of weight 30+ lbs. Dr. Hentek made a comment to me about making an effort to loose more. I shared my regiment and told her about the results I'd had in the previous months and instead of suggesting alternate options she just told me about the negative effects of excess weight and told me to loose more. Of course I have some idea of the negative effects of excess weight otherwise I wouldn't have embarked on the effort I did to loose the weight I had. Physically the doctor is larger than I am so I felt she should be a little more sensitive and construct in offering feedback on weightloss. I was pretty insulted so I'm no longer seeing Dr. Hentek. Women if you're a size 14 or above; you might want to see another doctor.

He gave answers to my questions to my husband. I was surprised to see someone so loathsome of people trying to take care of people's pain. I didn't get the procedure bec. he was so weird, but he charged me $1000anyway (& not $150). Maybe he treats white patients differently because in the waiting room several white patients said they are long time patients and thought he was nice. If you are looking for pain management/anesthesiologist- find someone who is used to patients that are awake. NOT Dr. Parikh! You will need to wait almost an hour before someone answers the call. In addition, there is no guarantee that your scheduled appointment is actually scheduled. Their staff may forget to put the appointment in the system after they have told you that you have an appointment and its all your fault. If this was not right next to my house and if Dr. Cohen was not so nice, I would have switched a long time ago. I am extremely patient and can deal with a lot of incompetence, especially since Dr. Cohen is amazing, but, I guess its time to find a new practice.

When they finally confirmed, I was told the next appointment available was in 6 weeks. Although I was already annoyed, because of her reputation, I was willing to deal with it. I received a call this week to say that they would need to reschedule, even though my appointment is just a few days away. When I called to reschedule, the receptionist informed me that Dr. Gounder is no longer taking new patients. I stated that I had made this appointment 6 weeks ago to which she replied, with an attitude. "What do you want me to do about it?" Extremely unpleasant experience from start to finish. And now 6 weeks later, I have to start over to find a new pcp.

She then said "well, we can work with people. How about $400? Or $300?" The $500 sounds like a racket as it is but to haggle with you over a membership fee that a doctor SHOULD NOT BE CHARGING FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE reeked of sketch. Regardless, I trust the doctor that recommended Dr. Gilbert implicitly so I said that I'd be willing to pay the $300. The woman then told me to call my insurance to make sure that their office accepts my insurance. At that point, I asked her if I should be doing all of her work for her. "Isn't it YOUR job to make sure that you take my insurance?" Only then did she say she would try and call but she's "very busy and do not have all day to spend on the phone with insurance companies." She called back the next day to tell me that she couldn't get in touch with my insurance and that I'd have to do it myself. I don't care if Dr. Gilbert can cure cancer, HIV and dementia, the impression I get from her hired help is that she's a snake oil salesman hiding behind a membership fee. I'm not looking for a gym. Unfortunately, her office just called to notify me about a $200 yearly membership fee, that would be due at the time of my first appointment. I've had this appointment for months, but they only gave me 10 days notice about a charge, not covered by insurance, to see a doctor who, despite the positive reviews, I'm not sure I'll like. It's like being surprised with a $200 copay that negates the point of having insurance. So disappointing... I'm sure she's a wonderful physician and me having to cancel my appointment is my loss, but new and current patients should be warned (with more than 10 days) that this office is charging everyone this fee going forward. This office should also not be listed on my insurance as in-network, because this yearly fee betrays the spirit of that.

Or not, whatever, congrats on your decisiveness, but that is definitely what I was thinking after bouncing from doctor to doctor for the past few years. I was worried that I might make the commitment and then regret it. I didn't understand how Dr. Cho could be that much better than other doctors. Oh my god that was stupid. Dr. Cho is SO much better than other doctors. She thinks, she asks great questions, she listens, she explains, she cares! Try to imagine a doctor who does all of that really well. Like, imagine just a really stand out ideal doctor, the doctor that you really hope you will meet if you go for One Medical group. Are you imagining? Good. That doctor you are imagining sucks compared to Dr. Cho. The difference is that Dr. Cho doesn't just care about her patients. She cares about her job. Deeply and to the point that it is obvious within minutes of meeting her (or I don't know, can someone fake that? I don't think so). So as a great doctor, with a team of great doctors around her, she probably has spent a lot of time, her life really, thinking about how to be the best doctor. Way more than you or I have spent. So she knows far more than we do about what a great doctor should do. That means that when you go to the office and see Dr. Cho there are so many things being done to make your visit go perfectly that you won't even notice or understand them all. You just have a great experience. Then, what, I guess you sit down and think about it and try to explain it on Yelp and realize that you are under-qualified to explain why the experience was so great but you really want other people to know. So... yeah, all of that. I guess its time for you to stop vacillating and make an appointment.
