After our soccer game on Sunday afternoon, members of our team wanted to go to Moe's. I wanted to go home and vomit because I am so out of shape. But I was told they have a nice 2 for 1 happy hour, so I acquiesced. It's easy to convince me to do things. And OH MY GOD was I happy I went. Not only do they have $3 pints of Dos Equis (2 for 1!), but there was also a buffet spread. Just sitting there! I have no idea why, but I know when to keep my mouth shut. When I opened it back up, in I stuffed endless amounts of 6 foot hero (roast beef/turkey), potato salad, olives, cheese cubes, crackers, vegetables and dip. For free! Also, the bartender was cool, and the music was great. To recap: I spent $5 ($3 for a beer plus $2 tip), and I received 2 pints of Dos Equis, AND dinner for me and my girlfriend. Ladies, if you've been wondering where the single men be, look no further. Thursday night at Moe's is a veritable Sausage Fest: All Poles, No Holes. They're a friendly but persistent bunch. Come with a friend or a credible alibi. All in all, it's an affable crowd. What's great about Moe's is Sean, the sweet-tempered bartender. Part Southern, part island, all charm. He seems to work Thursday nights and Sundays, but the best time to show is early Sunday afternoon. Ehh...came to this spot this past Friday night with two friends of mine. Didn't stay long at all. The set up of the place is half ass...DJ only plays a selective amount of music, the crowd didn't seem to have too much energy. I didn't have any drinks there so I won't score them on that. Before I even moved to BKNY, one of my good friends invited me to drinks at Moe's. I so fell in love with the staff, the atmosphere, the drinks, that when I finally moved into the nabe, Moe's became my watering hole of choice. A year later, I'm a familiar face. I know all the 'tenders and they all know me. They know my signature drinks, which is cool. And even when the place is crowded, the staff is still professional and very much on-point. Gotta go for the Happy Hour, where it's 2-4-1 drafts ($3 Dos Equis!) and $1 off everything else. The music is always good, always eclectic. And the screen in the back plays everything from Hollywood blockbusters to little-known foreign films. Finally, this is a GREAT place to meet people. Most people are intelligent, creative, fairly attractive, and cool. I met most of my BK buddies in this joint, and even left with a few ladies. ;) Moe's is the lick. Moe's for me epitomizes Brooklyn in a way, since it manages to be different things at the same times effortlessly. Is this a bar, a pub, or a lounge? Well, all of the above, really. Moe's manages to be cool and laid back at the same time. Just look at the bar in front, and the artsy room at the back, and how well they go along together. Everybody's welcome here, as you can gather from the very diverse crowd (men, women, black, white, asian, gay, straight, etc...). Last time I went there, after having dinner and wine at Stonehome, there was a DJ spinning R&B and soulful hip hop, and everybody was having a great time. *Disclaimer* Before Moe's closed, it was my favorite bar in the whole city. It was the place where you can go and hear the BEST old school hip hop and r&b. The DJ would switch up and you would hear some good classic reggae and then oldies from Teena Marie and Earth Wind and Fire. It was spacious so people created their own dancefloor and would be getting down. There was a big screen in the back where they would play 80's movies (usually muted) which added to the old school vibes. Then, they closed. People were saddened about the news of their closing but some were surprised that they re-opened. At first I was even excited. But after going back three times since their closing, they might as well have stayed closed. They have a video DJ and the music is the same sh*t you can hear at 99% of other bars in the City. It's mostly Top 40 crap and dance stuff. One night they actually attempted to play old school stuff and the DJ couldn't even mix. He was preoccupied and hardly stayed at the booth! What kind of DJing is that. Plus, the drinks are weak. Point is, this bar lost is character and as a result, lost a loyal former patron. read more

Moe's is a truly cool spot. I've gone there with dates, friends, my brother when he was visiting the city, and I've gone by myself. Now, I'm not huge on doing the bar thing alone, but every now and then, I'll give it a go, and the night I went to Moe's by my lonesome, I'm glad I did. Met a very cool guy, who also lived in the neighborhood, a plus because there is nothing worse than meeting someone out in Manhattan and hearing the following, "Ohhhh, you live in Brooklyn? How is that?" I generally cut off the conversation at this point, but it still frustrates me to no end. Anyway, cool, hip, creative, multi-dimensional people go to Moe's, and its reasonably priced drinks and beer selection combined with dj and background movies and ideal, sultry lighting make it a spot I really should frequent more often. The best bar to have a great time in the Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill neighborhoods because it absolutely represents! I have frequented Moe's on different nights of the week and they have all been a funky good time. The bartenders are cool and friendly. It is a cash only bar and that has its merits and cons. The cocktails are not super fabulous (that is why I give it four and a half stars) but they are inexpensive and drinkable. Moe's is more about just hanging out, dancing, and drinking than experiencing fancy well made drinks so I order mostly straight ups or beer/wine. This Saturday night a hot mixed DJ couple were throwing down dance hall, hip hop, funk and soul and after GIANT pours of Hornitos tequilla, lap dances and stimulating conversation on the pros and cons of the porn industry and other great conversation topics with people I had just met -I'd have to say Moe's gave me one of the best nights out (a totally sexy and epic night) and I didn't have to leave the neighborhood. Love this spot. Actually, the first time I made a move to go there, it didn't happen. It was a late Saturday night, ~11:30pm, and a group of us were looking for a relatively mellow place to grab a quick drink. But Moe's was packed, 5 deep at the bar, so we ended up down the block at Mullane's that night. But last weekend me and Anj were walking around before dinner. I wanted to take her over to Fort Greene, so after popping into BAM for a sec we went to Moe's for a drink. This was early on a Saturday evening, say 7pm, and Moe's was comfortable--people at the bar, in the front window, in the back room--but we were able to get some comfy seats. Initially in the front room, but as soon as some spots opened up in back we went back there--since they were screeing "Purple Rain" on their large screen back there! What would have made it more perfect would have been the sound (jukebox was going instead)--at least during the 1st Ave scenes. But still--you can't beat that: purple rain in Fort Greene, sipping on cognac, in a mellow yet happening neighborhood spot. read more

Two friends visited me last weekend from out of town and my wonderful cousin recommended Moe's. I must say it was quite an interesting spot. Very trendy, there were a lot of interracial interactions going. Which was cool b/c both of my friend were white. They felt at home, although we didn't stay there the whole night, we bragged a drink then moved on to a bar down the block. But if was definitely a place I would like to go back to. Moe's is one of my favorite bars in Brooklyn! I love the vibe in Moe's: very diverse crowd, all friendly people that are just chilling out enjoying the great music and drinks. The drinks are reasonably priced but it is cash only. I think they even have a happy hour-- BOGO draft beer if I'm not mistaken--early during the evening on most nights. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The decor is funky and cool with dark walls, exposed brick and some old school arcade games. The music is always great and adds to the chill vibe in the place. It can get very busy the later it gets but that makes it a great spot to people watch. I've been to Moe's numerous times. I've been after work for an early happy hour (they open at 3pm) and also late night for dancing and cocktails. I've even been on a Sunday, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the happy hour specials are also valid on weekends. I'm not much of a beer person, but their beers are cheap and two-for-one during happy hour. I usually enjoy the frozen margaritas which are $5 during happy hour and STRONG. I'm far from a lightweight, but I have gotten tipsy in the middle of a second drink.The mango margaritas are also tasty, and I think they're made with real mango puree. The bartenders are cool. I've had drinks made by all three. I also like the mango martini and pear cosmo. The crowd is decent. Definitely a mix of... everybody. The music is pretty good, there's even dancing where ever there's space. So if you're looking for a neighborhood spot to have some drinks, chat at the bar or even dance a little, this is a good, consistent spot. Speaking of consistent, each and every time I've been to Moe's, it's been a good time, even on random week-nights. It can get very crowded on weeknights, so I recommend getting there early for happy-hour, or checking it out during the week. read more

I really must commend the managers here. (1) After a tortuous battle with a taxi driver, Moe's manager literally saved me from police time (please don't tell the momma, she'd have a heart-attack). Long story short, because of Moe's and their incredibly patient & understanding staff, I have the privilege of sitting at my desk and prattling on my keyboard. (2) On another, separate occasion, another manager allowed me to sneak out of their back door so that I could escape a truly bad conversation. Now that's customer service. But what about the bar itself? Hip. Sometimes overwhelmingly cool but still comfortable & cozy. Drinks can be expensive but they also can be cheap. Always am glad to enjoy a Hooegarden in a pint glass, so this place makes a happy girl. Good vibes but sometimes a bit noisy when the dj starts spinning. I really did appreciate their silent documentary nights when old documentaries are projected onto the wall - it gives a casual but arty feel. Never have tried a drinky-drink there but they always look tasty. Boys: if you're looking for a good date spot to impress, this is a good one. Shadowy nooks are perfect for intimate conversation (not that I've had experience in that realm or anything...) and the lighting is just perfect enough to make those really charming dates all the more magical. Smokers: there is a bit of a spot outside where you can huddle within a gated area - but really, honestly, you should stop smoking anyhow. Plus, this little gated spot is perfect for certain dog owners to enjoy their drink and the company of their beloved 4-legged friend. And, like most spots in Ft. Greene, don't worry about dressing up. You can show up in your Chucks & oldest, most paint-splattered pair of jeans and still feel right at home. Oh. And bring a little extra cash because sometimes the atm machine says that your account doesn't have any money in it even though said account is not even close to being empty. read more

Just weeks after moving to the nabe, I wandered into Moe's and found a seat open at the end of the bar. Who knew that the man I sat down next to that fateful Saturday evening would later become my husband?! After 4 years, plenty of drinks (yes, the 2 for 1 rules!) and meaningful connections made, the staff and gang of regulars at Moe's have become family, even playing integral roles in our wedding! (We love you Reverend Johnson, Gwen, Matthew, Maria, Sean, et al!) Say it ain't so, say it ain't so. There's been buzz that this awesome bar will be closing in the near future. Like all great things, they're lease is up and they are being priced out. Drink specials are great. On Fridays, there's a BOGO special on beer. Their frozen margaritas are STRONG. Only takes about two to get the job done. My favorite thing about this bar is the diversity of the clientele. Unlike other bars in NYC, you see all sorts of people rubbing elbows. New York is supposed to be a melting pot, right? I've forgiven Moe's since that night - it's a local spot, not to be missed if you're visiting the area. If you live in the area, you either avoid or you're in there all the time. BEFORE THE NIGHT: My cuz introduced me to this place when we were bored out our minds on a Friday night. She assumed I wasn't going to like this place because I'm not a bar person. She picked up her girls and off we went to Moes. They carded us and as soon as we got inside, it was packed (for a small-a$$ place). THE PLACE: I have to say this spot is very laidback (thank God, it's not APT). People were very friendly here; majority of the crowd had this neo-soulish vibe about them. It wasn't your typical peeps from PWC or Goldman Sachs. Those people make me feel uncomfortable. DRINKS: The bartender was so cool, he personally hooked me up with one of his special concotions. I was like, "Dayum, this drink is nice!" Because of his friendly persona, I had to hook him up with a nice tip. The prices aren't cheap yet it's affordable. MUSIC: The music was legit; that night the deejay was spinning some nice reggae tunes. In the larger room, there was a large screen that shows a movie which was cool. That night, they were showing "Fame". (My favorite movie; I love Irene Cara; she's the bomb). BATHROOM: Okay, honestly, the bathroom was like a freaking shoe-box. I'm so happy I didn't pee all over the place. The tiny bathroom is alittle cleaner than the one in the lounge area. I didn't like that one too much. It was yucky that time. Overall, this place is great for a night when you don't want to be around craziness (like in a club). Diversity is popular at this place so if you have an open-mind you wouldn't have a problem here meeting different types of people. read more

If you are looking for a dark bar, with frozen drinks, loungy sofas, live DJ and a good mix of people, this is the place for you. Every time I come here, I'm never disappointed. The crowd is usually in a party mood--in fact, this is the spot in the neighborhood that is notorious for hooking up!! Can't get any friendlier than that, eh? The bartenders are usually good looking and very nice. And the place itself is nice, a corner location with big windows and wooden floors, making it seem almost like you are sitting in a brownstone rather than a place of business. I've been a Moe's head for years. It's like "Gotta go to Moe's" to at least stop by on a Friday or Saturday night when hangin' in Brooklyn. No matter how hard I try to avoid it I always end up here. It never changes, which is good and bad. The front part is cool for mingling, catching up. In the back, one night it could be people dancing their ass off. Next night it'll be everyone all mellow engaged in convo. Sometimes they'll show a movie like Beat Street. There used to be arcade games, not sure if those are still there. It's usually the same ol' mix of Michael Jackson, Femi, Biggie, etc. I love Moe's for the crowd diversity and cheap drinks. The frozen margaritas are good. I go with that or Red Stripe. read more

One of my favorite places in Fort Greene. I love the music, karaoke night, and the atmosphere. The crowd varies and the mix of people turns over throughout the night. For my birthday this year we bar hopped all over Ft Greene and ended the night here singing "Remember the time" on stage in front of an extremely accepting crowd. I think it was the free birthday shots that got me up on stage so the least they could do was smile and applaud since it was their own fault. The drink prices are decent but you must bring CASH. There is an ATM machine in the corner, however it doesn't always work. I'd spend more money here and give them 5 stars if it wasn't for that aspect. read more

This is my standard go-to place. I tend to spend a lot of time here in the winter because I tend to avoid Manhattan in the snow-- the one draw back is that there's no outdoor area, so the summer finds me prowling around elsewhere... but I always have Moe's-love in my heart! Happy hour is exceptionally kick-ass. I work down the street, so it's pretty standard to head over for excellent 2-for-1's. It's also pretty sweet that they don't make you have both your drinks at once: nothing is worse than having your free beer sit there getting gross for a while as you finish the other one. Hanging out during the week is pretty sweet-- not usually too crowded, but not too empty. Get's a little full for my taste on the weekends, but I'm sure sometimes that's a good thing. Also, they're always playing great ridiculous movies and such on the huge screen in back. My favorite was when they were playing Heathers. Heathers! And of course there's pac-man, and karaoke on Tuesday nights... heck, I'd almost forgotten how awesome Moe's is! Eh- Yelp your given this place too much credit, or maybe I came on an off night. I was here for a birthday party on Saturday and arrived around midnight. It was packed, no hassle at the door which was a plus, but the place was a meat market! It was just a bunch of beefy black dudes standing around leering at all the ladies (mind you I'm a black woman, so normally I would be estatic at this demographic, but not when you fee like you're a piece of meat wandering around a lions den). Maybe it had to do with the ominous red lighting which made me feel the need to defend myself. After a few drinks (cash only-womp), I loosened up and had a better time. Music was pretty good, standard hip hop/old school which is always a crowd pleaser. It got less crowded around 1, when it seemed everyone wandered else where. There seemed to be more people chillin outside the spot than actually in it. Only had a beer, so can't comment on the cocktails. You'd think somebody else would take the hint and open another decent bar in the area. This place is official. It has a front section with the bar and then and up a couple steps is the back section which is a Lounge setting with a live DJ. As for the DJ, Well I DJ myself, so I'm a hard critic. And this cat was "ON POINT" please believe. Started out with a nice smooth vibe and then turned up the heat with some upbeat Hip-Hop.
