Dinner here last night and lunch today, both meals were great. Fresh home cooking using fresh ingredients make for an amazing meal. Last night had a clam plate, yes, that's right fried whole-belly clams that were cooked perfect, big and juicy, here in western Massachusetts. Actually better than most places on Cape Cod, where I usually for clams when here in New England. Today had the grilled chicken salad for lunch, sat at the bar and enjoyed a draft Steel Rail ale with it. The salad greens were a nice fesh mix; the chicken was a whole breast grilled perfectly, sliced, and placed on top. The balsamic vinaigrette served with it they make in house, really good. A huge portion, enough for a full meal. This has to be the best food, and also the friendliest people you will experience in this area. I look forward to coming back again!

For our third annual cousin's white water rafting weekend, we decided on Mohawk Campground for our camping needs. The rules are a little weird with amount of tents/people per campsite (which is 4 in a 4 person tent) but we reserved in advance and got 3 campsites right next to each other along the river. The check in process is quite homemade; you go into the bar and find the owner, who's an adorable lady who looks like she was raised on this campsite. She explains the "map" to you and sends you on your way. Very helpful, a little frazzle-brained, but welcoming and looks like she knows how to have a good time. We got there, set up tent, and it immediately started pouring... which is why having the Pub there is outstanding. We got some dinner (typical bar food of average quality) and beers. The pub stays open until the bar tender gets sick of you. There's a few pools tables and other activities there. As far as the rest of the campground goes, the facilities include pretty well kept. There's bathrooms as well as a shower room. The location is right near all the white water rafting companies and ski resorts, so you really can't go wrong there. My only complaint is that their quiet hours are really strict at 1AM, which I guess makes sense because you are in close proximity to your neighbors...

My family and I recently went camping here for the 4th of July weekend. We took a bit of a gamble…read morecoming here since there just seems to be so few reviews online, but we really enjoyed our stay and wanted to share details since it seems that those are missing...And since some things have changed. Campground Rules: Some earlier reviews had mentioned that vehicles are not allowed at the sites, and this is what is specified on the current list of campground rules. I would advise visitors to call ahead to ask, but at the time of our visit (July 2021), we were told that vehicles ARE allowed to remain at the campsites, which is extremely convenient! Due to COVID-19, however, the group sites are currently unavailable and there are some campsites that are left empty to allow for social distancing. Sanitary Facilities: the sanitary facilities listed on the website are NOT all the same! The three in the camping area are essentially outhouses (see picture attached) and are pretty messy (they have hand sanitizer and toilet paper available, but also some spiders! But I guess that's what you expect with rustic camping...On the plus side, they also hang up some air fresheners so they did smell pretty good). However, they DO have much nicer bathrooms in the day-use/picnic area, right behind the showers. These have flush toilets, toilet paper, sinks, soap, and paper towels, and are cleaned daily. Other Amenities: there are trash cans dispersed across the camping area, which are easily accessible but also protected against wildlife. We also did see white trucks from First Light (the company running the campground) once or twice patrolling the area, so it seems that it is pretty safe. They did not bother us or interact with us at all, but it was nice to know that they were around. Additionally, we did not use the showers but they are coin-operated so do bring coins if you plan on showering! Checking In/Out: we visited the Campground Office and Paddlesport Center to check in and out of our campsite. The staff there were very friendly and processed us very quickly. We also rented kayaks for the morning, and they were super accommodating and it was a great experience! Fees: this may change, but at the time of our stay, we paid $22/day for our campsite and I believe $25 for 2 hours for a tandem kayak (the price is the same for solo kayaks and also stand-up paddleboards). We got a bundle of wood at the Campground Office and Paddle Sport Center for less than $6, and it lasted a pretty long time. Camp Sites: the campsite itself was very spacious. We had Site 27, which was pretty isolated due to all of the surrounding campsites being closed due to COVID-19 distancing. There is a gate that you have to open to get your car in and out, but it's fairly easy to open (not sure if you're allowed to just leave it open?). Pro-tip for anyone who stays at Site 27: it can be hard to find...But go into the loop for parking and you'll find a separate gate with a post nearby labeled "27". Go through there and Site 27 is on the left! We wandered around a little bit initially...We did not have tent plots on our site, which was just as well since our tent would not have fit anyway. But we did see many other sites with it, and they looked pretty nice! Trails: the nature trail was well-marked and very pretty. Quick warning though: there are some steep areas that were hard to navigate. They have steps constructed for most areas, but do be careful with older individuals or younger children. The Dinosaur Track Quarry was unlabeled unfortunately, but should be relatively easy to find. It's toward the beginning of the trailhead at the parking area and is distinguished by a cliff face and a lot of small, thin stones (possibly shale stones?). There are also a couple of overlooks available throughout the trail, like in one of the images attached, seen at sunset. These were really nice! Kayaking: As mentioned previously, we did rent out kayaks from the Campground Office and Paddlesport Center! There's a lot of space to paddle around (we only did 2 hours, but there was a lot more to explore) and the staff helped with bringing everything (boats, paddles, and life jackets) to and from the launching area. We surprisingly saw a lot of swans and their cygnets around (I want to say maybe 10 families???), as well as ducks and geese. Overall Experience: We really enjoyed our stay overall at Barton Cove. Whenever we had questions, the staff over the phone were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Our stay was peaceful and quiet (with the exception of fireworks in nearby places - not in the campground itself - due to the 4th of July). Our only complaint is that we wish that the outhouses were a little bit better maintained. There were some spiderwebs in places you really don't want them to be...I also wish that the website could be updated to reflect some of the rule changes and include more information!

This campground has beautiful sights and sounds of the Connecticut River. I would go again!read more

There is parking for 1 or 2 vehicles at each site. We enjoy the shade of these sites as well as the proximity to the bathrooms. Country Aire also has a playground, an in ground pool with a slide, a volleyball court, a game room, a laundromat, and a camp store where they make delicious fresh donuts every morning. The bathrooms are clean and the coin operated showers are nice and hot - I've never had a cold shower here. The camp store sells wood and lots of other items. Wood is reasonably priced and we've always managed to find lots of sticks for kindling right around our camp site. Looking forward to returning here next season!

Apparently my puke offended them to the point where I asked if we were banned and she said yes. We never once got a warning she did not come to us with complaints we had to go to her. We just laughed in her face because all the complaints she had are literally the definition of what camping is. Have been here multiple times with My kids who get rowdy never had an issue. I've since had a change of employment and need to shorten my visit there. Per campground policy clearly stated online, credits or refunds aren't given for cancellations on holiday weekends. I'm available for the weekend, and submitted a request for credits for the non-holiday nights so I can use them in the future, per policy. Dave (who claimed to be owner, then clarified as Gen Mgr) denied my request... claims this cannot be done. I asked what would happen if someone had a lengthy reservation like weeks or maybe a month ... would they be locked into the entirety because a holiday fell within their dates?? He said no, they wouldn't; that's different. And he declined to afford me any means of contacting someone else (such as the owner) so that I could request ... "they won't be back for weeks anyways", he said. Please, per policy, I am keeping my nonrefundable non creditable weekend nights (3), would like to have the non-holiday nights (4) issued as a credit for a future stay. Dave has been ineffective in explaining to me why it's impossible for me to do this ... but is certainly possible for someone else in same situation.

It is VERY much off the beaten path and once you turn on Somerset Rd., it's a good 3 or 4 mile drive to get to the general parking, picnic area near the water. Oh yeah, the road isn't paved either so it's best to have a 4x4 or some sort of vehicle with tires that can handle the trek. The general parking area is a decent size, there are a few picnic tables and a port-a-potty which was surprisingly clean. The reservoir itself is huge and great for kayaking or canoeing, neither of which we did, but I did see quite a few people there enjoying themselves on the water. There is one general walking direction which takes you to several different hiking paths and there is even a cute little bridge overlooking a beautiful stream. It had rained that morning and with leaves falling, the trails were a little slippery at points, but nothing that made me feel unsafe. I'd definitely recommend wearing sneakers or hiking boots of some kind. Between the group of us, we had 3 dogs and none of them were on a leash; people really didn't seem to care and everyone was friendly. The dogs enjoyed swimming in the water and I enjoyed looking at it. I'd most definitely go back to Somerset Reservoir with a camera and a light lunch to kick back and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

We stayed at a double campsite to accommodate the size of our group and it was perfect. This campsite included a fire pit and two picnic benches. We easily fit one large tent (8-10 people) at the site and 9 lawn chairs around the fire pit and had much more room to spare. This double campsite could have easily fit 3 smaller tents. The campsites were secluded and we only ran into a few other campers. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would definitely come back, definitely a hidden gem in western MA near the NY border!

We stayed for three nights over Columbus Day weekend, the last three nights that the park was open. Though it was technically fully booked, at least a third of the campers didn't show up, leaving us with lots of privacy on our first two nights! The park rangers on duty over the weekend were helpful and incredibly friendly. The camping sites are perfect walking distance to all of the trails and a nice mid-point if you plan on hiking several in one day. We enjoyed the Busby trail as well as doing some exploring around Bog Pond. Our big regret was saving Tannery Falls for our last morning and being surprised by a sudden bout of rain. Oh well, it'll give us something to return for! We stayed at site #29, which shares a long pathway (sloped, so it isn't good for a tent, but would be great for a few AWD cars) with site #28 (a beautiful grassy spot that we'd prefer over #29). It also backs up (about 10' of woods separating them) to site #30, which is a small space looking out onto the one-lane road and up the hill to the bathrooms. All of the outer spaces were moderately private with trees on three sides of them. The spaces that are in the center of the park are, as others indicate, very much out in the open. It's a rolling apple orchard with very few trees in it, so it's excellent for RVs, but maybe not the best for tents. Finally, the bathrooms were well within what I'd expect for a DCR facility, though the showers were the dingiest that I've experienced (bring a pair of flip flops!). That being said, there was never a shortage of paper towels, toilet paper, or hot water. There are also beautiful large sinks outside of each of the two bathrooms that are meant for washing dishes. The dumpsters and recycling containers are located at the entrance to the camp site loop and are an easy five-minute or less walk from any of the sites.
