Long distances moves can be painful. Moishe's makes them very painful. I would stay away from them. I used them to move my family's stuff from the East Coast to West Coast. We were moving from a 2 bedroom to another 2 bedroom. A lot of stuff but not a houseful of stuff. To be fair, everything went smoothly on the packing up side of the move - until our stuff got on the truck. That's when things got ugly. We could not get through to anyone after that, and were left completely in the dark. The person we had been dealing with until then did not tell us that we would be handled by a colleague of his in charge of long distance moves, so we wasted time chasing after our person with no response, and we had no idea where our stuff was, and when it would get shipped to our new location. Finally, when we learned about the existence of the long distance person, we had to chase after him to get any kind of update. When our stuff was getting close to our area we got a call from the trucker asking us if we would be able to reserve spots on the street the next morning for the unloading, because he had a massive semi-truck (~80 feet long). No call from the company to walk us through this big step and help make a smooth move. By then, it was too late for us to do anything about reserving spots. This huge truck showed up the next day and started unloading our stuff, until a traffic enforcement cop told him to get the heck off the street because he was blocking traffic. The trucker told us he will need to transfer our stuff to a small U-Haul truck so he can unload our stuff without blocking traffic. He also told us that there would be an extra $800 fee to transfer our stuff to the smaller truck. We were surprised by this because we had been told that it would be very unlikely that any additional fees would apply. We called the person at the company whom we were in contact with, and he was a huge jerk. When we started asking if he could bring down the fee, he rudely said he would INCREASE the fee instead if we pushed back on the fees. In the interim, I called Moishe's customer service to complain, and the guy I spoke to was only willing to reduce the additional charges from $800 to $700. However, we later learned that he forgot to do one thing - tell the truck driver about this agreement. So we were left in a pretty awkward situation - to tell the trucker that we should only pay him $700 when he was told that we need to pay $800. The customer service guy said he would investigate the situation, but I never heard a word about it afterwards. The transfer to the smaller truck took an entire day, and the guy's crew had enough, so he needed to find a new crew. He showed up in the U-Haul and two new guys at our apartment around 8:30pm. (I still had to spend time blocking off some parking spots so he can park and not block traffic.) We had a lot of stuff, and three guys were not enough to do this move in a timely fashion. The guys were finally done around 12:30am. I was forced to pay the full $800 because he was never informed by Moishe's customer service that they reduced the fee to $700, and I was desperate to end the all day moving nightmare. Moishe's shouldn't just show up at your apartment with an 80 foot truck and expect to pull off the move without any hitches. It turned out to be a huge waste of time running around trying to reserve parking spaces so the truck could pull over to unload. They should handle these logistics, not the customer. And they should do a much better job keeping their customers informed about the process.. And they should treat their customers with a modicum of respect. read more

In reading over recent reviews here, it seems that people's experiences with Moishe's have been hit or miss. Mine was certainly a huge miss and I would advise others to find another moving company. It's just not worth the risk. I hired Moishe's to move my stuff from Brooklyn to Colorado in September. Every step of the way involved significant problems. Fittingly, the company in Colorado that Moishe's hired to deliver our stuff said that they see problems with Moishe's moves all of the time. The crew leader wasn't surprised to see all of the damage and coached me to photograph and document the issues so that we would be protected. Here are the biggest problems we encountered: * Damaged stuff: The Moishe's team caused thousands of dollars of damage due to careless packing, moving, and storage. They literally threw items into boxes without padding or paper and tied together pieces of furniture without padding between them, resulting in lots of damage. Antiques were damaged irreparably, my gas grill was smashed, and our sofa is damaged and thread bare in the places that were bashed into walls. * Damage to my building: The moving crew caused damage to my apartment building in Brooklyn while moving my sofa. At first they denied it, later they admitted it, and the dispatcher gave me a "final offer" discount of $100 for the move. I spent the last few hours in my Brooklyn apartment trying to patch up the damage and hoping that I wouldn't lose my security deposit. * Missed the delivery window: Moishe's gave us a twelve-day (12!) delivery window for our stuff. They then missed their own delivery window, and since we were scheduled to travel after receiving our belongings our move was delayed by two weeks. Annoyingly, they gave no warning that they would be late. When I called to confirm their delivery on day 12 they matter of factly informed me that they were behind schedule. No apology. * Awful customer service: Bashkim Spahi was the Claims/Customer Service Manager I worked with. He never offered an apology, often said that our problems were not his fault, and yelled at me on the phone on a number of occasions. It was terrible. His role seems to be less of a customer service manager and more of a belligerent bouncer. * No insurance claim response: Bashkim instructed me to fill out an insurance claim, which I did weeks ago. He has never responded to requests for an update on my claim. * Bait and switch: When the moving crew arrived the crew leader told me that Moishe's wouldn't be able to honor my price quote and they would have to charge me extra. His explanation was that the Moishe's sales guy who had given us the quote did a bad job of estimating the size of our move. After a lot of back and forth with the dispatcher, which included the question "should our guys just leave?", the dispatcher agreed to honor the original quote but it was a very stressful way to start. * Extra fees: Later, once all of my stuff was loaded into the Moishe's truck, the crew leader and dispatcher tried to assess extra fees, totaling 6% as I understood it. In the end, I was able to get the fees waived but it was another example of unnecessary stress. read more

These folks at Moishes Movers are so amazing, They came picked up all my Mothers belongings after she passed and dad was just too emotional to deal with it all, And I was in the middle of my first opening week of my play running on broadway and just could not stay to move the items, The good folks at Moishe's picked it all up from the house after carefully packing it, then moved it all to a storage unit for dad and then set up some steel shelves and placed it all in the unit not breaking a single item. Years later going to stay with dad after my wife took my son and left me for a rich Frenchman while I was in the middle of a writer's block working on my next play. well she was living with a billionaire Frenchmen I was quickly running out of funds and was forced to move out of our home since the lease was up, I had to go stay with dad as my snob little brother and his crabby wife and they're triplet daughters would not lend me a hand and allow me to mooch off them for a couple of years and stay with them for free where I would attempt to finish my next play, So I was forced to move into dads spare room in his retirement home on a golf course he had moved into 5 years earlier. While staying with dad he had a heart attack and was put into an induced com, while visiting my father at the hospital and having my snobby little brother accuse me of somehow causing dads stupid fake heart attack, I was given a key by dads new pot-smoking lady friend to the unit, she was told to give it to me in case anything ever happened to him, Well all these years later thinking all mom's belongings were thrown out by now but upon returning to that unit mom's belongings were all still there and set up. thanks guys. By the way, his heart attack wasn't fake after all I guess, and the coma was real as well. And secretly without my brother knowing, yeah!!! I cause my dad's heart attack, or I must have been at least a substantial contributor to it, As we had a big argument that day about Mom and where her belongings were, and we're all the things thrown out from the storage unit, he went upstairs to take a nap and Wham-O down for the count he went. Hell! if dad had-killed over as mom had 10 years earlier after one of our arguments I would have forgone the hospital all together end just called the movers at Moishes and had him picked up and nicely packed into one or two boxes and moved into the unit with Mom stuff. Who knows!!! let's see what happens after this heart attack and he gets back home to find that I've eaten Kim out of house and retirement home, and drink all of his diet cream soda, as well scared off that crazy old lady that he calls his new girlfriend, and finally, last but not least, I moved my bisexual hippie friend in with me, and surprise surprise he somehow has another heart attack that my snobby little brother will try to lay some sort of blame on me again, ell maybe I'll get to call 1-800-266-8387. If that's the case, rest assured I'll follow up on this review here and report and how that all went. But I'll predict that it will be a five star review Once Again there's nobody quite like Moishes. DO NOT MOVE WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!! I WOULD GIVE THEM 0 STARS! BEEN ROBBED AND EXTORTION BY MOISHES!!!!!! They quoted us for $8.438 to move from NY to FL, and when the truck with the movers ARRIVED TO THE NEW HOUSE, they WERE TOLD not to download the stuff UNTIL WE PAID $ 4.959.50 EXTRA!!!!!!!!! WHEN THEY HAD ALL MY BELONGINGS IN THE TRUCK THEY EXTORTION US!!!!! I HAVE BEEN ROBBED 5K BY THEM!!!!! THEY NEVER ANSWERED THE PHONES TO GIVE AND EXPLANATION!!!! The sales man ( Roi) came to the apartment and quoted us for $8,438 to box and move all our furniture and belongings FROM NYC to Florida. On sept10th the movers showed at the apartment and took everything single item to a truck. We filled out a contract with our information and made a payment of $4219, 50% of the price as stipulated in the contract. On September 13th, while at the airport I got an email from Yani from Moishes updating my file in the system. "Your estimated CF was 1137CF and we picked up 1900CF , which means we end up with 763 CF extra  which generates an additional amount of  $4959.50" We charged you at the pick up $4219 and your new balance will be at the delivery $9178.50.    If you have any questions, please call our dispatch line 800-367-4453 ext 4210 Thank you, Moishe's Moving Systems SINCE THEN WE CALLED EVERY SINGLE DAY to ask for an explanation about this 763 cft extra and for the $4959.50 that they excepted us to pay AFTER WE SIGNED A CONTRACT. and NEVER got an answer, everytime they answered the phone they said somebody will contact you, and they never did. All the stuff was in the apartment when somebody from Moishes came and gave us a quote. It is not my responsibility, it should be Moishes mistake and responsibility if the person sent by them has not have the experience or is not good enough with quotes. This was a FRAUDULENT technique were Moishes offered a lower quote with the purpose of securing the job, and then they demanded an amount that was more than 58% than the original price. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE that when they have POSSESSION of all our belongings in a truck they extorted us to pay 4959$ in order to release our items. On September 18th the truck showed up to the new address and they were not allowed to unload our belongings until the balance was paid in full. Of course again NO BODY was able to answer our CALL, but they were right there to charge us. I used Moishe's Moving Systems for my long distance move from New York City to California. I went into the moving experience hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. I'd heard so many horror stories about items being broken, movers holding people's belongings to get more money out of them, etc. I received estimates from about 8 different companies. Moishe's was one of three companies that actually sent someone to look at my apartment. I didn't even consider the estimates from companies that didn't come and look at my space. The estimator that came out from Moishe's was nice to work with. The bid that I received was actually one of the lowest that I received. This made me a bit skeptical, because the lowest bidder is seldom the best choice. Yet, after doing some thorough web research, and reading reviews, I decided to give Moishe's a shot. Moishe's consistently exceeded my expectations. They delivered as promised, and I didn't pay a single dollar more than what was on my "Binding Estimate" The day of the move, the crew showed up about two hours early. This was a bit annoying, since I wasn't ready for them yet. However, they were gracious and happy to wait in the truck until my girlfriend and I were showered and ready. The four man crew came into the apartment and jumped right into action. They worked fast. I couldn't even keep track of them. Absolutely everything that was in the apartment got packed and loaded within a couple hours. They did a great job packing for the most part. My dining room chairs have some scratches on them, since they were packed in boxes, with other items, and no blankets. Yet, overall, they did a great job taking care of everything. My two LCD TV's were heavily protected and arrived in perfect working order. The delivery crew was great to work with as well. The driver contacted me when he was 3 days out to coordinate. I spoke with him a few more times while he was en-route. This was very nice, because I didn't have some wide delivery window and have to waste an entire day. I knew when they were showing up. They unloaded everything very quickly and were great about helping us get everything setup. They were also really good about taking as much of the packing material with them as possible. It was nice not having a giant mess to clean up. Overall, I had a great experience with Moishe's and would recommend them. The only problem was the couple of scratches on my chairs. Yet, I was expecting a lot worse, so I'm really not too concerned. read more

We just completed a very successful moving and storage transaction with Moishe's and wanted to share our wonderful experience. This was our fourth time using Moishe's in the last 10 years (we had not previously used Moishe's for storage), but given some of the recent negative reviews online we were a little nervous about this fourth move (and first time storing our stuff with Moishe's; our three prior experiences with Moishe's were very positive). Turns out there was no reason for us to be nervous. All the individuals involved with this transaction were wonderful, including Jeremy E., Joe F., Boaz, Rand, Willie, our foreman, his team of movers, and Dino, the terrific manager of the storage facility in Long Island City, NY. Joe F. did our in-home estimate and we found him to be reasonable, flexible and fair (we already had the boxes packed so it was easier for Joe to provide the estimate for the boxes and a few pieces of furniture to be moved). Jeremy and Joe were extremely responsive via phone and email, provided us with the certificate of insurance for the coop building, and ensured a very smooth transaction. And our three movers were absolutely lovely: Willie, our foreman, had great attention to detail, was patient, careful with our furniture items, made sure they were adequately wrapped and protected and arrived at their storage destination without damage. The movers were punctual and our scheduled 9:00 am move proved to be exactly that: a move that started around 9:00 am and ended around 3:00 pm at Moishe's storage facility in Long Island City. Since we opted for self-storage we had to be at the location in person to fill out the paperwork. Dino, the manager of the storage facility, and his helpful team were very professional and cooperative and made the process as painless as possible for us. This was our first time storing items with Moishe's and we were impressed with how Dino appeared to be running a tight ship. We are confident that we left our belongings in good hands. And overall we were very happy with the service for both the move and the self-storage, and will definitely use Moishe's again for another move (different apartment) that we are contemplating in the very near future and hope to receive the same great service again! read more

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!! They gave me a good quote, I decided to go with them and everything seemed fine until they screwed me over. I asked what I needed to do to confirm the deal and was told by my agent that I would need to fax them a confirmation form. I did this 5 minutes after she e-mailed it to me and thought everything was fine. This was on a Monday and I didn't hear from her that week so I thought everything was fine. The moving date was in two weeks. The week in between then and my moving date I went on vacation to Spain where my phone did not work but I did periodically check my e-mail. I returned home 2 days before my move and had gotten a voicemail from the agent saying she was going to cancel my reservation if she didn't hear from me. I called right away and no one answered since it was a Sunday so I left a message. The next day I started freaking out that I was wrong and hadn't sent it in so I faxed it again. But I know I did send it. Courtney called me right after I faxed it to let me know that she had canceled the reservation when she hadn't heard from me. When I told her I sent in the form already, I acknowledged that possibly there had been a technological problem but that I was in a different country and did not get her voicemail until yesterday. And she said she sent me numerous emails but I checked my email while I was away and the last email from the company in my inbox from her was the confirmation letter that I proceeded to print and fax so she is obviously lying. She told me basically it was not her problem since she had no way of knowing I was out of the country and she canceled my reservation and they were now fully booked until Friday. Seeing as I need to be out of my apartment by Tuesday, this is not an option. She was very rude to me on the phone and had absolutely no understanding for the horrible situation she put me in. I had an agreement and they blew me off when I had no way of knowing there was a problem. I know I sent them a fax with my payment information and I am now in a bind and have no way of moving out of my apartment tomorrow which is completely unacceptable. This company is horrible and doesn't deserve the great review it has on Yelp. read more

My wife, Carrie and I cannot thank you and the entire Moishes staff that commandeered both of our moves. First, our move under the direction and leadership of David on August 2, 2010. This move was done in baking heat and involved 3 trucks. David and his large staff packed up our entire house expertly and sensitively as we were emotionally upset about having to move at that time. All of the men were friendly and kind and gentle but organized and systematic. Following 2 months of storage, our second move occurred on October 4, 2010. Another group of your moving experts under the direction of (I forgot the foreman's name) moved us from a large storage room back into 3 trucks and then into a much smaller home. These men struggled with several large items being moved into smaller rooms than previously. There are smaller stairways and stairwells that they had to contend with during this move. These men were extremely patient and kind and they persisted until all of our belongings were placed where we wanted them in our new smaller home. They showed incredible teamwork and no task was too difficult for them. They approached every task with a positive attitude. They assisted us in moving some of the larger items several times until we made up our minds as to where we wanted them. Ronnie, we can't thank you enough for ensuring that under your direction these moves went smoothly. We knew that we would be in good hands, but we had no idea how professional your staff would be and how satisfied we would be with Moishes once again as we hadn't used your company since we moved over 20 years ago. Your financial considerations and generosity with regard to the discounts on the overall move and storage costs were unbelievably appreciated by my new synagogue, The Little Neck Jewish Center and by my wife and myself. I wish 0 stars was an option. I thought this would be an easy move of a sofa from my apartment in Manhattan to our friend's apartment Jersey City. Two men who clearly didn't have real moving experience and didn't speak any English showed up at my apartment, and after they put a gigantic hole in my NEIGHBOR'S door, they decided it was too heavy and left the sofa in the hallway, and we were told a NEW crew would come later. However, once they HAD ALREADY damaged my neighbors door and the hallway and ceiling, the mover attempted to have me sign a form saying they were not responsible for the damages, which was beyond insulting! Once the new crew arrived they were able to get the sofa out of the building (by taking pieces off causing extreme damage), they got it to it's new address and threw all of the pieces and cushions (of a $9,000 sofa) on the wet, snowy ground. Once they brought the pieces inside, they told the new 80 year old recipient of the couch that a piece not fitting was "the least of her worries" and then left all pieces in her lobby without trying to get it into her apartment! I later learned they talked about myself and my family to the woman who we gave the couch to, I didn't know it was common practice to talk trash about a customer who had just paid them! The customer services/claims rep dodged my phone calls for that day and ever since then. He will only email me occasionally - he appeared to be out of his office, but somehow in the building, for the entire day for the day after this happened. They neglected to render the services I was promised and still owe my building money for the damages, and once that is complete I'll probably have to take them to small claims court for money to cover the damages to the couch that totaled over $500 not including the other company I had to hire to get the couch into the apartment! The movers were not professional, the company seems great until they mess something up and ignore your attempt to contact them at all costs. I should have gone with someone else. read more

This past summer, my wife and I bought our first house. To say the least, everything in that process was stressful. Everything, except for the moving. For weeks, we had a set closing and moving date. The sellers, at the last minute, decided to change the closing date on us, so we couldn't move on our schedule date. Frantically, I called Moishe's knowing that the end of June was the busiest time of the year for them. At first they couldn't help me. I tried calling other moving companies, but they said I had to pay over 2 1/2 times what I was supposed to pay Moishe's. Not something I could afford after all the costs that go into purchasing a house. At that point though, we had no choice... that is, until Ronnie Tenami saved the day. With only a few days left before we had to be out of our apartment (and also a few days from closing), Ronnie called me asking what happened. Ronnie originally booked my move, but he was not the one I spoke with when I attempted to re-schedule. Surely enough, Ronnie found us a time slot that worked perfectly. If not for Ronnie, my wife and I would have had to extend our lease in the apartment for about 2 weeks, and also put off moving into our new house for the same amount of time. That would have been horrible. Not only was Ronnie a great help. But the movers themselves were also incredible. They got to my apartment before me, and waited for a while, since the move was scheduled right after my closing. Of course, the closing ran long, but they waited in the lobby patiently. I was very impressed at how the movers, Gustavo Lopez and Daniel Deakin, were so quick and efficient. (There was a third mover, but I cannot recall his name... sorry!) They worked late - well past midnight - moving in our stuff. We offered them food and drinks, or to rest, but they declined and kept on working. I'm sure other Moishe's employees are great, but on my next move, I would prefer to work with Ronnie, Gustavo, and Daniel (and the 3rd mover). Thanks Moishe's! read more

Just moved with Moishe's last week, both start and end point within Manhattan. I too, was advised by Roi Nagar. Roi came to our apartment and gave us a detailed estimate for our furniture and quantity of stuff. Ultimately, the estimate was $100 more than the flat-rate mover we were also considering (Moishe's pricing is hourly; the alternate was Intense Movers); however, Moishe's includes free boxes and tape (something we did not have) so ultimately that made the difference. Day of the move, the team arrived at 8 AM instead of 9 AM. Not a huge deal because we were ready to roll, but if you are not prepared, I could see this being an inconvenience. The three gentleman who helped us move were very professional and thorough. All of our boxes and furniture made it through unscathed; there was no damage to the building we were leaving or moving into. Overall, they did a very good job, and would have no problem recommending them. My only complaints are as follows: 1. They charge you for one hour of travel time. This hour also counts toward the time the men spent moving. So I paid for five hours of moving, even though the job took a total of four hours (including travel time). 2. When all the boxes and furniture were out of the old place, the crew did not leave immediately for the new place. I went and got a cup of coffee and hung around waiting for them to leave before hitting the subway. I watched for probably 15 minutes before heading underground, and they still had not left. Overall, it took them the better part of an hour to get to the new place. Certainly, I will not begrudge anyone taking a break (especially from a hard-labor occupation like professional mover); however, when the customer pays by the hour I do not see why I should shoulder the cost of said break. So four stars for not damaging anything, giving a pretty good consult before the move and providing boxes. One star off for the double-dip travel charge and long break on the clock. read more
