I recently completed a major move within NYC using Moishes, took the full valuation insurance. No storage, from Manhattan to Queens. Pretty large unit with a whole family's worth of stuff. I was honestly worried, as I've got a piano and many fragile items. But in the end, the movers completed the move easily didn't damage our stuff at all--with one minor exception being some Christmas ornaments that just fell during packing. Overall, the move was far better than I thought it would be. Granted, I have fairly low expectations for moving companies within NYC and I can't speak to the experiences of others, but on the basis of my experience I would go with them again. There are a million different things that could have gone wrong and essentially none of them did. read more

Hired moishes to help us with a long distance move. Was disappointed when we discovered we are missing boxes and some of the boxes that were delivered were damaged. I will add more to this review later. Moises moved some standard stuff (dishes, furniture of multiple types, misc. from ny to Indiana. A about 3 foot x 2 foot x 1 foot (approx) ceramic and metal sculpture was included in the move as they had appropriately and successfully moved the piece before with NY. As appropriate, the contract included foam encasement of the rather delicate sculpture that only has a few attachment sites to the metal frame (a bike) and multiple ceramic figures with arms, legs, hands, and a sun for a head. Moises packers used about 6-10 loosely folded pieces of paper (newsprint sized - daily NY post not NY times sized paper) around the sculpture, and another 2 ish pieces sort of crumpled around the top (see photo of just opened box w top and top packaging visible.) deliverers took same photo, I assume, since they snapped shots at the same time. In addition, the "box" was folded around the top of the sculpture, which (originally) had sun rays poking through DURING SHIPMENT. As is visible in a photo, some of the sun rays broke off (big surprise), and the rest suffered obvious damage and chipping. Of the 3 ceramic pieces originally attached to the bike frame, two broke off completely and suffered major damage. All figures lost some body parts, most lost fingers and parts of / damage to feet. Notice severe breakage in photo of the broken off figures in photo. Other items also came out damaged, just less valuable and more like cracks, stress fractures, and broken shelving / separators in , for example, a large lucite unit (2ftx3ishftx4ft). Also packing was clearly more intended to create chargeable packing volume than protection. Dishes that were already in smaller manageable boxes were repacked into a huge (now super heavy) box putting the dishes together (still have to check breakage at bottom of huge triple box) with about a foot of mostly open space at top (chargeable space!!!) and a few barely folded (literally 2 or 3) pieces of newsprint on top to "protect" against vertical movement during transport. And an echo dot was the ONLY item contained in a regular 1ft x 1ft x 2ft box - with a little folded paper again for company. And boxes going to 3 locations were supposed to be dropped off at ups, where ups repackaged (at our cost) and shipped (at our cost. Because from ups they went to 3 separate locations, but all went together from starting point to ups, we were charged $500 base charge for each final location - even though moishe's only took a single trip to ups to drop off the about 8 pre-marked for location boxes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]DO NOT TRUST MOISHE's - AND THEY WONT EVEN REVERSE SHIPPING CHARGES AFTER ALL THE DAMAGE, INAPPROPRIATE PACKING TO OVERCHARGE SPACE, OVER CHARGE TO UPS... Great service, they were patient with local police telling them to move their truck 3 times. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Just a small point, after 5 hours, I had to leave at 3:15pm for another appointment. When I came back 2 hours later, the contents of 1 wall unit drawer were left on the floor. One of our energy drink cans with 1/2' left in it was on the floor, but no spill in that area. Where do I begin [[HIGHLIGHT]]The delivery was one week late the driver calls me at 11:00 pm to say he can deliver at 7am even after I explained office building doesn't open till 9am[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The most important part of this small move was a steel and glass table which was delivered broken and because it was dragged instead of being picked up 2 legs snapped off and can't be repaired. I received a wood dresser that I paid as part of the delivery and wasn't mine. My area rug was missing from the delivery. I would have been better off saving the $2000. We are a returning customer to Moishe's moving. They moved us 25 years ago and we were happy then. So when we had to move now, I suggested we use them again. When we priced moves, they came in at the cheapest. I wasn't sure how it would be 25 years later. Everyone was professional and had the best communication. TL:DR - Don't use Moishe's. They were supposed to hold my things in storage until given a delivery address. I was moving to Florida and gave them a window that I suspected I would have an address by. I decided against the move and was weighing up my options thinking my stuff would stay in storage, me paying an agreed monthly amount. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But then I get a phone call asking for an address because my stuff is on the road. And if I want to turn it around, "that'll cost a lot".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I mentioned so many times that they shouldn't have taken my things out of storage without a confirmed address and the response was "look, we can point fingers at who's to blame, but your stuff is on the road to Florida so we need to find a solution".[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You guys ultimately forced my hand. I end up staying in Florida because the alternative was paying a months rent to undo your mistake. A mistake you acknowledged on a text message but then not when you called me. You even tried to tell me that if I find alternative storage I can buy your blankets for $750 or you will have to unwrap and take them back. And you cracked my bed. With the blankets on. You've cost me a year of my life now. I will be seeking legal advice. read more

DO NOT USE Moishe's Moving for LONG DISTANCE moves. We used them for our local moves, had great experiences, recommended them to friends, and then used them for a long distance move. What a nightmare. They were completely understaffed, couldn't park in any of the places which would have prevented an extra charge, forced me and my wife to be put to work as security to guard our personal items left on the open sidewalk, and by the end of the day, everyone was exhausted. That's when items were dropped (including items from other customers on the truck), and when trying to put together a shelf, banged at it and bent it. Moishe's appears to ONLY be interested in getting paid. So I'm working on the insurance forms now. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. read more

I must say I have mixed feelings about this business. Our 1st dealing with this company was good minus them losing a part to my recliner so we decided to use them again to which I figured it would've been just as good as our 1st time which was almost the case until we found out a mirror I purchased ($170) was picked up alongside all our other belongings but surprisingly the mirror was never delivered to our new home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I reached out to inform them of the situation & even provided the invoice for the mirror as part of their policy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I just wanted them to do what's right & reimburse me for the mirror that the drivers didn't deliver but kept alongside a dresser we gave them as we didn't need it & to make matters worse, we even gave them a tip for what seem like a job well done. Their response was that they did a thorough investigation by asking the guys that handled my move what happened too of course they will deny any involvement as it could jeopardize their employment & their response to my $170 purchase was that they would just provide me with $13 for my troubles. I ended up on the short end here because I paid for their services, gave them a dresser, tipped them & after all that they stole a brand new mirror from me. These guys were excellent! I'm one of those stubborn guys who wants to do everything himself, unfortunately I got sick a few days before my move so I begrudgingly looked into movers. Off the bat it was obvious this company has great customer service, from the first call back from Jordan, to the estimate Zoom with Michael, they were already ahead of their competition with how they treated me as a potential customer. That treatment continued through the entire move. The guys were early (they texted me first so it wasn't a surprise) and ridiculously quick. They packed everything thoughtfully, carefully, and shockingly fast. There were other people moving out of my building who hired some other company and the difference was night and day between professionalism and the simple ability to move furniture. I had an addition stop between my old apartment and the new one, the guys beat me there, packed up as quickly as I could get a coffee on the corner, and even beat me to the new apartment. And if you enjoy being charged a lot more than the original quote once they have all your stuff on their truck, Moishe's is your place. 2 bedroom apartment move. It was fron a 2nd fl apartment to another 2nd fl apartment. They even managed to get my upright piano through the doors, with a lot of maneuvering! Also an armoire and 5 drawer chest among other things. The crew was fast and thorough ( although they missed two lamps but considered the amount of things I had, a very minor oversight) and Eddie, the crew chief listened to my requests, and was very patience. Well I guess this is what we get for not listening to Yelp reviews to begin with. The 1 star is because we need to select a rating. We chose Moishe's for our move and storage. After leaving our furniture and belongings in Moishe's care for about two months, we moved and took our things out of storage to find that nearly everything we gave them came back filthy, damaged, or missing. Moishe's will not even cover the costs of replacing the missing bed pieces. If you're planning on moving or putting your things into storage, there are 100s of other options and I'd happily recommend any of them over using Moishe's. read more
