The bar is in an old historic building and the mural says the bar has been in operation for 120 years. That's a long time of weathering events such as prohibition, wars and the Great Depression. But in a small town like Brazil, you need a good bar. Inside, the bar is ancient, but tidy and comforting. I grab a seat at a high top table. Our server, Deniela, was fantastic, gave us the low down on daily specials and made a few recommendations. Water came out quickly, as did food. She checked on us regularly. I had the daily special, prime rib burrito, which was very good. The prime rib was tender and juicy. The rice was much more flavorful than the usual Tex mex rice. I loved my meal. My husband tried the breaded pork tenderloin. The breading was perfectly seasoned and the large loin was moist and tender. The bun was good, too. The hand cut chips were delicious. (I ate half his chips and could have made a meal of them.) There is street parking. I recommend a visit, but expect to be rooting for Alabama on game day. The food is delicious.

The Rueben is made with homemade corned beef, not some of that thinly sliced garbage that most places serve. This was juicy, tender, melt in your mouth goodness!! The hand breaded fish sandwich was also wonderful. You get 2 gigantic pieces of fish!! Each sandwich was served with fresh house made chips. The portions are large and you won't have a need to order more. The service was fantastic! The regulars patrons were very welcoming! It felt like we belonged at the Alabama, we will definitely be returning customers!!

Popped in hungry and hot after walking around McCormick's Creek State Park…read more The space itself isn't especially appealing; the exterior is an unassuming brick building-we almost missed it-and the interior is fairly minimal as well. If you have a large crowd you might be challenged. But we weren't there to take in a scene and icy water was brought immediately after we seated ourselves. We were provided paper menus but also check out the digital versions! There were a couple of differences, one was only wording but did result in a side upgrade for one in our party. I got the standard burger and, with the server's recommendation, added bacon jam and aioli to make a smaller version of the double-pattied civilian burger. Delicious and right sized for me. The fries are a must. They're beer battered steak fries, crispy outside, soft and steamy inside. The pulled pork got positive reviews but looked messier than what I wanted to manage in that moment. The menu has a good variety, including a couple of vegetarian options. I was also very happy to find a rye beer with a more modest ABV as I like the spicy bitterness of rye beers but they tend to be more than I want after hiking around on a hot day. Service was great. Our server was familiar with the menu and super friendly. This spot is a great option after a hike in the area, especially if you're cringing at the thought of navigating the student crowd in Bloomington but still want a good meal and beer. Added bonus: fantastic prices.

I tried the Pilsner they had on tap and it was decent, my wife got a sour that she really enjoyed. The brewery was clean and had a welcoming vibe. We sat at the bar too and the service was excellent! I ordered the Cuban to eat, I thought it was just ok, however the mustard seed brown mustard was very tasty! The Civilian burger with bacon jam was very flavorful!

My husband and brother enjoyed the beer they tried. I enjoyed the atmosphere. They have popcorn and games to play. They have a cat who seems to love there. It's kid and dog friendly and just an overall nice place to spend an afternoon. The bartender was very friendly as were the other patrons. I was so happy to see this place and the memorabilia throughout. Highly recommend it to anyone. They have an outdoor patio that I hear is packed in the summer! We'll definitely return!

I'm not a guy who has a sophisticated palate that tastes notes of Madagascaran pine nuts or hints of organic apricot. I just like the beer or I don't. Afterburner is veteran owned local brewery. They don't have food inside but there was a food truck parked out front. The facility is rather large but their beer menu is pretty small. When I went they had 5 beers, 2 ciders and 3 wines on tap. There is also a fenced in area outside with picnic tables so you can let your pets or children off their leash. I had a standard 4 beer flight (just samples here so same thing without the board). I got their Nunquam Fractum (wheat beer), Unscoreable (pale Ale), Midnight (double Imperial Stout) and Mach (hazy IPA). All were solid but the Mach was great. My only criticism is I'd like to see a few more beer styles on the menu and I wish their sticker had their name and location (I'm a nerd with a brewery sticker wall in the garage). Other than those little critiques, it's an awesome place

Well Dang! When you are here you certainly do NOT think you are in Terre Haute anymore!…read more Came here after a work event really just to check it out. When I walked in I asked where it was and the security staff told me to go to the 10th floor. You have to walk through the hotel part and go up. Once you get off I promise you, you feel that you are no longer in Terre Haute. I honestly felt like I was in Charlotte, NC. The view is insane looking at the greenery of what makes Indiana so pretty in the summer time (I can't wait to go back during fall to take in the view then too). The music was a total vibe. It was R&B, Chill POP (is that a thing, don't know how else to describe). There is an outdoor patio area where there was a guy playing live music and people sitting on couches relaxing and watching while enjoying a cocktail. I sat at the bar because I was by myself and certainly didn't want to take up an entire couch and leave that for others that may have larger parties. As soon as I sat down my server came to take my order. While I wasn't really planning to eat, once I looked at the menu the Chicken Nachos were calling my name. Even though I am counting calories, I had to order. Man, when they came out they were huge and so so good. You can order the chicken blackened which I did and man it was great. I just sat and enjoyed my very caloric nachos and a cocktail and just really took it in. I don't live in Terre Haute, I live in Indianapolis, but I spend a ton of time in Terre Haute for work. At that moment, I felt proud. I felt proud of Terre Haute for making the investment and proud that they are attempting to change the city by offering things like this. I host client events for work and I am thinking of ways to host something fun here, so I will be back!

WOW! What an unexpected cool space for Terre Haute. And this is absolutely a 5 star Yelp spot by…read moreTerre Haute standards. More "lounge" than "bar" to me, the space is vast. Through the hotel lobby entrance, take a hard right and then another right to the elevator bank, up to the 10th floor. There is plenty of signage to tell you how to find Altitude. A greeter is at the podium to offer a friendly welcome. We are actually not going to have a drink nor something to eat (note that they do offer food in addition to adult beverages). My aging parents and I simply want to walk around and see the space. And what a great space. Navy, white, golds and gray....sofas, bar seating, cream curtains, loads of windows, giant patio. I liked that the greeter was open and welcoming for us to simply walk around...and he was nice to my older parents who were moving slow. Thinking to myself that this place is more dressed up than dressed down, I am quick to remember this is Terre Haute. I think you could get away with a spectrum of clothing. Save the crappy cut offs and flip flops for another place, but I am certain they would not turn you away at the door. But with that, for a dressed up girls night out or a romantic spot in jeans with someone you love, this spot would be excellent. What a view and a what a patio! Now it is June and at 6:45pm as we are outside on this patio to take in the view, there is little shade, it is a bit warm and the sun is glaring to a person like myself that shuns the sun. But what a great space. Very open and spacious, some hightop tables, but mostly very tasteful outdoor sofas and chairs, with fire-pit coffee tables. Heat lamps are about and I know this space will be a hit at the perfect shoulder months of cool Spring nights and crisp Fall evenings. Full views south, West and North of the Vigo county area. This space in general is definitely a step up in the coolness factor for places to get a drink in this town. I give Altitude a 5 on Yelp and I am yet to have a drink. I'm optimistic that the bone dry Tito's martini with olives I will order on my next visit will match the ambiance we took in. And if they have blue cheese stuffed olives to boot, my cup will runnith over. I will come back.
