I moved to the area at the beginning of Covid and had been waiting for the right time to check out the Cataract Lake Lodge. The girlfriend and I finally decided that tonight was the night.
We arrived at approximately 9:30p. There was a live band playing and they sounded pretty good. The plan is dinner and drinks.
We find a table near the bar, after a few minutes of waiting, I decide this isn't the kind of place where a waitress is going to come by, so I approach the bar and request a menu.
The older woman behind the bar tells me that the kitchen is closed, that they closed at 10pm. I look at the time on my phone, it's not ten yet but don't make a fuss and return to my table to discuss this development with my girlfriend.
While we are making dinner plans, which included a plan to return for a nightcap after finding dinner, we see an old couple approach the bar. The waitress turns to them and asks if they would like to place a to-go order with the kitchen. I'm dumbfounded. But try to write it off as maybe this is something special for a regular.
A couple more minutes pass, and a man comes out of a back room and bellows "Last call for the kitchen". Now, I'm pissed. It seems that we have simply been denied service. The whole time we are less than five feet from the bar. The bartender does not offer to rectify the situation.
We find another local place to eat, and are about to stand to leave when a very drunken man stumbles into the small table we are sitting at and tumbles to the floor. I hop up and offer him a hand and am waved away. An awkward few moments later, the bartenders help him up and outside.
We leave. As we get into our car to head to our dinner, we see, to our shock that they are helping the man who can hardly walk to his car. He is easily twice over the legal limit. He can't even hardly walk, and they just poured this man behind the wheel of his car.
We did not go back for that nightcap. We will not be attempting this bar again. I don't even like that my way home has me passing it each day, given that they have no qualms about thier guests leaving behind the wheel in such a state. read more
