But after enjoying "the ron bennington" (delicious chocolate cupcake made with a combination of peanut butter filling, chocolate ganache, and crushed butterscotch topping), I was happy for the opportunity. Amazing! Saw the cupcake wars sign on their door during Jazz Fest and had to give it a taste. The flavors were absolutely delectable and ambiance was on point! The swing set and couches were amazing hangout and photo places. We got creme brulee, peach cobbler, tiramisu, cookie monster, s'mores, sour gummy worm, and double chocolate flavors. So many unique flavors and fillings too! I had the s'mores cupcake from the Walk of Shame. There was barely anything wrong with it (small smear on icing), but it was discounted a whole dollar. It was the best cupcake I've ever had. The graham cake, toasted marshmallow, and chocolate ganache created a heavenly taste explosion in each bite. I also had the normal vanilla for only $1. Oh Molly's. You are the cherry on top of the Iowa City sundae. I have to hold myself back from buying a cupcake every time I walk past. In one especially unsuccessful week, I tried the peach cobbler, s'mores, key lime pie, and creme brûlée cupcakes. All of them were great, even with my high standards for baked goods. My favorite was probably the creme brûlée which has a perfectly caramelized top, or the peach cobbler with its fluffy frosting and tasty peach slice. My least favorite was the s'mores because the cake was more graham cracker-y than cake (which I probably should have expected), but still delicious. Every cupcake I've eaten here has also been so beautiful I almost don't want to eat it. If the cupcakes weren't enough, the store itself is adorable with swinging chairs and cozy tables that you can hang out at or play a board game! We decided to stop by and we're pleasantly surprised by the unique atmosphere inside which consisted of hanging swings from the ceiling. They had a great selection of 11 types of cupcakes in addition to being able to customize each one and have it made for you on demand. I had a birthday cake cupcake which came with cake batter on the inside and a generous amount of frosting on top. My wife had a brownie cupcake which had brownie batter on the inside. I have NEVER had as good of a cupcake as this one. It has the cutest little peach slice dusted with magic and cinnamon, and a perfect whipped topping and vanilla cake that is so moist and the perfect perfect perfect texture and taste. Ok, so everyone here is obsessed with this place. I wish I could join the club, but I just *can't*. I love desserts more than the average person, but I can't for the life of me finish one of their cupcakes because their frosting is so sickeningly sweet. It's not like any buttercream I'm familiar with, but more like a thick cool whip (maybe they use shortening?). Yes, the store itself is adorable, and supposedly their drinks are good, but the dense/dry cake + cloying, oily frosting earns a big "no" from me. You walk into Molly's and immediately you're greeted by both the smell of love and some large industrial-esk swings that hang from the ceiling. There's not a ton of seating, but the crowd tends to move in and out pretty quickly so all's well. The counter cabinets boast more than a dozen varieties of cupcakes, 7 of which we've tried, all of which were delicious. Each one combines the ecclectic with the familiar, creating a beautiful melding of flavors that blissfully dance on your tongue. Seriously though, they're delicious! The favorites thus far have been the cookie dough (a lovely small cookie up top and dough inside), the cookies and cream and the game day (Hawkeye colors with cholocate in the middle). A six pack runs about $13 and they're totally woth it. They come in mini's or big kid size, all of which are satisfying.
