Terrible time management and no respect for customer's time. They don't take appointments for eyebrow threading and make you wait 40-50 minutes by saying "they'll be done in a few minutes" with the previous customer. The threading service is good, but I don't think it's worth the wait. read more

This one lady RUINED my eyebrows, i specifically told her not too thin and she pretty much over plucked the heck out of my eyebrows, I have been trying to grow my hair out for a long time and I came expecting a trim as I got the complete opposite, she was unprofessional and harsh on my face, she even tried to add her own tip! this was a horrible experience and I don't recommend anyone coming here. read more

I used to get threading done in Jackson Heights, Queens, which was quite reminiscent of Fraser Street, and at a similar type of establishment. $5 for eyebrows. They always did a great job and they were even written up in Vogue. It's not too often that I can go to the places "written up in Vogue". ha. So since I was feeling, shall we say, "adventurous" I thought that I'd give this place a chance, given that it sported such a famous Parisian's name (not exactly why) and I was not too phased that my aesthetician (if I can call her that) did not speak English. I had also read Jody's review and figured that it must be good. (thx. J). I sure wish that I could have seen all of the 1 star reviews on my iphone. Talk about a Yelp fail! Now, almost two weeks later, my second eyebrow is finally starting to grow back comletely mismatched to the other one after I was butchered by my threader. Interestingly enough, while I was getting my service done, two "metrosexual" males (does anyone use this term anymore?) were also getting theirs done. They both complained and screamed their heads off so much that it made my service even worse. And I have to say that it hurt more here than any other place that I've threaded in N.America. Owner was nice and apologetic, but I'm sorry you get what you pay for. She told me in fact that the girl could not understand me and had no idea what I'd wanted! I ended up getting my services for next to nothing, but I'll never be back. I was going to say that at least I won't need threading for awhile, but they look pretty mismatched so I'll have to go somewhere else, anyway. grr. read more

It just so happened that Mona Lisa was on my way this weekend and I desperately needed my eyebrows done. I heard so many good things about this place (through Yelp) so I thought I'd check it out. They were pretty quick with taking us in, and got the job done right (I only asked for a clean up, since my eyebrow shape is already defined), and it was only $5.60 with HST. On the other hand, my regular eyebrow place only charges ~$3.50 with HST. I would really give this place 4.5 stars, because other than the price, everything else about this place is quite good. read more

Oh Mona Lisa...I drive at least 25 minutes to get here, but it's so worth it. You see painless eyebrow shaping not to mention a whopping $5 to get it all done has never been easier. Okay, so in the heart of little India just south of Fraser Street are all the shops that do threading. It's an East Asian way of removing hair from the eyebrows and upper lip. Not waxing necessary. For only $5, you get beautiful brows. And it's really painless. The salon is run by and East Indian lady who is really nice. It smells like incents. You sit in a chair and she takes the thread in between her teeth and pulls it until the hairs get plucked from your eyebrows. It feels like little prickles and doesn't hurt at all. The salon is not that nice, but clean enough. It's very fast and you don't need an appointment. For $7, you get your upper lips and eyebrows done. read more

Recommeded to me by an extremely well groomed male co-worker, Mona Lisa doesn't disappoint in price & most importantly giving you the most beautiful eyebrows you've ever had. The lady who owns the salon is very pleasant & sometimes does the threading herself. Otherwise, there are several other girls in the back who also do eyebrow threading & just as great a job. No appointment needed, they do get tons of walk-ins. Just as my first visit, the cost is *still* $5 & unlike the reviewer below, I take public transit 25 minutes to get 'em done, it's that worth it. read more

I don't really understand why people still wax their eyebrows when places like this exist. I was a waxer. I admit it. And dutifully paid my $15-20 every time to get my brows shaped. In fact, I would have happily continued on with the tradition if someone hadn't told me it could stretch my eyelids out and make them poofy. Urban legend or not, it scared me in a new direction. Found Mona Lisa through Yelp. It's one of those places i'd only have found via Yelp or word of mouth because it looks like any ol' discount hair salon from the outside. After the first appointment - hooked. Waxing be gone! Even after moving out of the hood, I still trek here for eyebrow love. $5.60. In and out in ten minutes. Bing, bang, boom - happy camper. But I do second (third and fourth) the other Yelpers in cautioning - ask for "natural" brows - not too thin. If you don't, you can be left with some seriously tiny eyebrows. read more

Feels very dirty inside. Despite previous reviews, unless you want to look permenantly surprised for a few weeks I would leave the eyebrow threading to the pros at Nuu Salon next door. I tried Mona Lisa only because i saw so many positive reviews and asked for Raj. If you have lighter eyebrows like moi, I would avoid this place. Place is a joke, I went in there for brow threading and I was literally next in line. Some guy was getting his hair cut and asked about threading and they told me to wait and let him do it first since he was already getting a haircut? I got mad and spoke up then left cause I don't want them to ruin my brow on purpose or "by accident" how can you let someone jump a queue like that? What kind of customer service is this? If I'm in queue for threading they should put him behind me after his cut and not jump my queue to do him first. read more

When the need to get my girly pampering moment came at the very special request of the girl staring back at me from the mirror, I knew it was time to no longer procrastinate on getting my eyebrows threaded! But where does a RECENT new Vancouverite go? Thanks to all the recent reviews by other loyal yelpers, I found Mona Lisa Hair Salon. When I went in, I was asked to go to the room and as soon as I entered a very nice lady who was waiting to take on her next client asked me to have a seat in her chair. I told her that I just want a clean up without losing my shape(again - Thanks for this tip yelpers!!) and she listened! She was super gentle and you could tell she was being careful with every hair she pulled which is 100/100 in my books :-) 10 minutes later I was done and extremely happy with her skills! I asked for name so I can ask for her next time I come back and she said "I am Shashi but I am only here Thurs, Fri and Sat" with a smile on her face! All in all, this former Torontian has found her new eyebrow place with a person she can go to on her every visit! I used to come here all the time for my eyebrows but since I tried New Vision from across the street, I just come here when the other place is closed. Mona lisa and New Vision are in the same caliber (in my opinion). Mona lisa used to charge just 5 bucks for eyebrow threading but now it's 5.60 cdn the last couple of times I've been here (whereas its 60 cents cheaper in New Vision). I also leave a 2 dollar tip. Anyway, I only let Asha -the owner touch my eyebrows (I made the mistake of allowing some random girl touch my brows -they ended up unevenly shaped). I also make it a point to tell Asha I want it NOT too thin especially since full brows are "in" nowadays. Also remember to remove your eyebrow makeup before you go threading so they can really shape it nicely (I noticed from personal experience that threaders-both from New Vision and Mona Lisa alike, tend to overestimate the thickness with makeup, and you end up with super duper THIN brows). read more

Cheap and cheerful! My go-to place for threading. I go to Mona Lisa whenever I'm in the area and in need of some "grooming". I've never had to book an appointment (maybe had to wait 5 min or so) as there is always someone available to help and most of the clientele are walk-ins. The ladies there do a good job and are quick and efficient. Your eyebrows will be threaded and looking fantastic for $6 and change. Be warned that it's not a fancy place (like the Bombay Brow Bar) but you are also paying a fraction of the price. I've never been disappointed and recommend Mona Lisa to friends looking for some cheap and cheerful grooming! read more

Reference: I've had my eyebrows waxed at various salons. Threading at Meenu's on Mainstreet. I can sum up my 10 minute experience at Mona Lisa in 6 words: "$5 threading you can't beat!" They are quick, friendly, reasonably priced, and experienced. I have thin sensitive skin around my eyes and waxing just always left it raw, painful, and bleeding no matter where I had it done. I've had threading at another salon -- which was better than waxing, but still left some bleeding and scabs to heal. They also often made my eyebrows look too thin!! Mona lisa has an experienced threader who listens ("Not too thin please!!!" ) and the experience was more painless than anywhere I've ever been! Wait time was negligent. You walk in, take a seat in the back, and they pretty much just thread and send you off -- which is perfect for anyone who has a schedule to keep. The only draw back as far as I can tell is parking in the area. Otherwise, it's : Two thumbs up! read more

Needed to thread brows badly. Walked in no appt and waited about 15 min. Great decor with modern furnishings. There are 3 chairs for threading area(enclosed) and 4 stylist chairs. There were still men at the back working so I guess the renovations aren't totally finished, but what I saw looked good. There were only two staff working, one doing a haircut and the other threading, but business was steady. The lady that did my brows was gentle and thorough. Update:(4/30/12) I still only go to Mona's Salon for my eyebrow threading but I get it done by Asha or any of her staff. They're all well trained and knows the business about eyebrow threading really well. And they listen so it's all good, just tell them you want it thick. One thing I can suggest is a little more customer service. A smile goes a long way. :) Great place for eyebrow threading! Let me begin by saying that I was a little reluctant at first. The first time I did my eyebrows, I went to Bombay Brow Bar but it was really expensive. So, I decided to take a risk and try something a little bit cheaper. I was super scared because I'm really picky when it come to my eyebrows. I'm so glad I found this place!! It is amazing! The only positive things I have to say are about the pricing. 6$ for threaded brows is awesome. I have dark brown to black eyebrow hair, and the hair that the women doing my brows removed was just the right amount. End of nice things to say. But, I guess you get what you paid for. Right away as soon as I walk in an unfriendly women greets me. She motions for me to go into the back and gets right to it. It felt rushed, and I didn't feel relaxed or welcome at all. The way they had me sitting was extremely uncomfortable. She asked me to hold the skin around my eyebrows taunt (this was my first time getting them threaded too by the way), and then got frustrated when I didn't seem to understand what she was asking, as it was a little hard with her broken English. I was trying my best. She keep saying that I was doing it wrong. I asked her to fill in my eyebrows after, and she did the most rushed HORRIBLE job ever. It reminded me of scribbles a toddler makes on paper. I had to rush home and go fix it after! When she was done, she just said, "I'm done," and walked away. No goodbyes or anything. Was the oddest experience that I've ever had at a salon. Don't go here. Malls have just as cheap and more friendly places to get your brows done. read more

I've been getting my eyebrows done for about a year here for $5. The last few times I've got my eyebrows done by a newer girl ( who I've never seen before) and she can't do eyebrows for shit. The 2 older ladies are very good at threading. Very even and clean. The younger girl ( the new girl) she made my eyebrows uneven. And ones shorter than the other. I thought Okay I'll go back and try once more. I went and the older ladies were busy so I tried the new girls again and she did it again. She spent 20mins. Kept checking if they were even and eventually sent me out with 1 perfect eyebrow & 1 half an eyebrow. Not only is one shorter than the other bit ones higher than the other. I tried to explain to her the problem but she doesn't really speak English. She just nodded and said she can't thread anymore. I told the lady not to make my eyebrows thin. I showed her a picture of myself with the eyebrow shape I wanted. .... To my horror, she had removed more than half my eyebrows!!! And they were crooked. Went here for a pedicure...wouldn't again. Not the most trained staff for pedicure purposes. Also they slightly over buffed my feet to the point where the top of one started bleeding a bit. I've been here twice this month and really like this place. Both times Raj did my eyebrows. She was so gentle and even took the time to comb, trim, and pluck extra hairs, which another place I normally go to does not. $6 (with change) for eyebrow threading is much better than the $11 i was paying in Burnaby. They have 3 seats set up so the wait isn't very long. I went yesterday and was in and out within 5-10 min. Super fast. Will definitely be back! read more

Don't think I will be coming here again... Every time I get my eyebrows done (for special events), I go to Bombay Brow Bar. But I figured since I don't have any special events happening, I'd just go to a place where it wouldn't cost me an arm ($26 vs. $5.60). I asked the threader to just clean up my brows as they were getting kind of bleh. But when I finished, I noticed she took off A LOT of my eyebrows. They are too thin for my liking now. And to make it worse, she didn't even clean my eyebrows well. There were still sparse hairs (she should've plucked them...) around my eyes. I don't think she even threaded the area between my eyebrows (unibrow)... Terrible, terrible, terrible!! I think I will be going back to Bombay Brow Bar from now on. read more

This is the worst place I've ever been too... I went there and asked them for a 2-3 inches trim and they cut 6 inches off my hair, and after this experience I talked to 2 of my friends and they had the same experience as well. I don't recommend this place anyone that wants a haircut. and they cost much more than the salon at Victoria drive. read more
