The front 9 seemed to be prettier than the back 9. Be prepared for a lot of sand traps. The club house has a great view. We were hoping to see Monarch butterflies but they weren't out when we were there in August. The resort has a tram that takes people down to the beach so you'll see that cart driving by throughout your play. One time while we were on the cart path, my friend was getting out and almost got ran over by the shuttle who came on the path behind us. We didn't hear it and there was no warning from the driver. The back 9 had these drones that seemed to be mowing during our game. We figured since they had cameras they would go around us but they didn't. One ran into our golf cart. The other would have ran over my ball if I didn't move it. For $300/round, I would have hoped they would either run these during times when people aren't playing or have the cameras on them so they won't run into you. read more

Let's start with the pro shop. The bald guy with a mustache is a prick. My wife and I stood there awkwardly with no acknowledgement while he looked down, shuffled some things around, turned his back to us, stared out the window, and eventually greeted us with a very annoyed attitude. No hello, no good morning, nothing. We were the only two people in the pro shop. It was very weird. When asked if we could possibly tee off earlier, he gave us an explanation that made zero sense and treated us like we were stupid for even asking. Apparently 7AM means, "there's no room" to tee off before 7AM. Well, there is room as no one playing 18 holes tees off before 7AM. People playing 9 holes tee off earlier but on a different starting hole. We also have eyes and could see no one was teeing off. So, there is plenty of "room". We are talking about golf, not hotel vacancy. I have had other courses be more than accommodating with this type of request and almost encourage it because it's going to get groups out and keep the pace of play flowing. I find it very strange when businesses choose to put an asshole with zero personality or customer service skills as the representative who takes money from guests and is typically their first impression of the course. The course is fine. Overpriced but decent. The greens were very smooth. Soggy in a lot of spots. The starter asked what tees I was thinking of playing off and I told him probably orange. I decided the black tee box was in better shape on our starting hole and decided to tee it up there. The next thing I see is the starter hurrying over through a packed practice green shouting why I wasn't playing from the orange tees. What??? He then stood next to the tee box staring at me while I teed off. Leave the paying guests alone and also have some golf etiquette. read more

First time ever trying Monarch, wanted to grab a drink with my significant other. Ordered 2 cocktails (Irish coffee & Margarita) the lady working the concession stand asked if I wanted to make one of the drinks a double. I said yes, which was my mistake because apparently it added a $30 more to my tab? What should have been a $40 tab went up to $70? Just take a cocktail a double? Seems absolutely bizarre. read more

I got here for a 6:05 tee time and it was perfect. Great weather, great views, and the course was very well kept. The practice greens matched the actual greens, which was very helpful. I played the front 9 and price was 115. Pace of play was amazing at this time and everyone was very nice and helpful. Don't forget to use the air hose at the cart drop off, to clean your grassy shoes. It's loud but such a nice touch after a wet round. Next time I will have to try a sunset round read more

We gave Monarch Beach Golf another try after last year when we had issues with the person working the starter group . Luckily he was not there this time . My nephew and I were greeted in the lobby check in and the guy working there was super nice friendly and had common knowledge in things we liked as well. Very family friendly. Then we proceeded to the starter captain and he was so perfect , helpful , nice and kind hearted . We were all happy to see this guy working the starter location. Thankyou for making these locals who live near the course want to come back again because of you and the guy working the check in on April 7 5pm. Whoever manages these guys please keep them on your payroll they are good for business. As far as the course it's always 5 star for us and no one rushed us , very peaceful , Weather was perfect . This is a wedding event review. I believe this story to be true. We were celebrating a wedding in a fashion not yet catered to by/at Monarch Beach Golf Links. Trying to somehow make this anonymous. Our new Daughter-in-law, a professional golfer, knows a few people. The newlyweds performed their very small wedding and ceremonies on the third hole overlooking the ocean and the reception was held on the first tee. WOW!!! What more can be said about the entire event for less than 50 people total including the wedding party. For such a small party, it was seemingly a HUGE event. No holds barred. Great band, excellent catering and bar drinks and plenty of patio heaters to keep us warm throughout the event. I was told this event on the links was the first of its kind to be held here on the course. What started with the wedding party photos up at the gazebo area with about 20 golf carts waiting. The carts then carried the wedding party down to the 3rd hole and back up to the 1st tee for the celebration. Golf links staff were all taking pictures as we drove by. We all whistled and screamed as we all drove through the tunnel together. Our host, I think his name was Jerry, was terrific and our own personal docent, having been a marshal and starter on the links for many years. A great host. Some amazing photos and scenery. I just wish the persistent uninvited guests of the Links would have respected our party's privacy. The unknown guests stood right next to us for 30 minutes taking photos, even with us asking them to leave and photo-bombing their sunset opportunities. Sheesh! Some people. Well, if the Monarch Beach Golf Links decided to make this a continuous opportunity, they seem to have done it right. Perhaps reviewing the outcomes and making any appropriate adjustments. The Good- The service and staff are top notch. From the moment I drove up I was greeted by welcoming and friendly staff. The guys out front were very pleasant and helpful. The gentleman at the pro shop was very nice and the starter, Kevin, was one of the best starters that I have ever encountered. Their staff ranks among the best I have ever encountered. This is a beautiful place. The coastal setting in very inviting and make you very excited to start your round. Carts were clean and like new. Carts service person was also friendly and attentive. The tee boxes, bunkers and greens were in great shape. The Bad- Fairways condition should have been in better shape for a course at this price point. Many times I found myself into some unmarked ground under repair in the fairways. They could do better here. This is a coastal course but know that only one hole is an ocean hole. Pace of play was a mixed bag. Enjoyed a very nicely paced front 9 which we teed off of #10 only to have the second 9 slow to a crawl due to the course plugging in groups teeing on #1. Not having a proper driving range is also a minus. PRICE! This is a nice course, but nothing really stands out about the design. You would expect more for a course that's north of $300. There are better tracks that are half the price. Glad I had a chance to play Monarch, but doubt I will be back because the value does not match the price paid. read more

It was an absolutely privilege to play a round here. It was a complete VIP experience from the moment you drive up to the curb to the moment you leave no joke! It's complimentary valet and they carry your clubs to your cart for you and even load up for you! You literally just walk directly to the club house if you need to change. They have a full locker room with all the amenities. All the workers know your name and treat every single guest like a VIP. They don't have a range here but they do have complimentary 4 bay mats and balls for you to warm up. There is a small chipping green and putting green adjacent. The course itself it just breathtaking with rolling hills and ocean views. The first tee absolutely make you feel like your on the PGA tour with crowds on the hill top cheering for you and from behind at the grill house. This course is definitely NOT a beginner course for peak weekend tee times they do enforce a maximum 4 hour round. The fairways and greens are absolutely in tournament ready conditions. Every single bunker is super soft with fresh sand and racked. Yes you must still rack here! Each person has there own cart during covid. Your cart has complimentary cooler filled with ice and bottled water. The GPS rangefinder keeps track of yardages, scores, and yes it reminds you of the speed limit when enter the tunnels or going into path only areas. The cart will literally stop by itself if you enter a restricted area! The cart even had USB ports to charge your phone/device while playing. There is full cart service here, yep pretty cute cart ladies here, just saying you paying to play here or coming with a member yall got some benefits. The pace of play here is super fast! You definitely are not waiting for anyone since majority are mid/low and definitely scratch players here. There are plenty of Marshalls around watching too especially if random beach goes accidentally walk onto the course. Yes be aware of random people walking across before teeing off especially near the 4rd hole directly on the beach. Yep we had a random family thinking this was the path to the beach and walking infront of the tee box. Luckily we waved them off and Marshall quickly came to escort them around. The course itself was fun with some challenging hole locations but those views were the real winners. If your hungry at the turn or post round there is a grill right off 1st hole. None of the food or drinks have any prices anywhere so you know its pricy. The burgers were $17 and beers $10 but hit the spot. The real winner is when you return your cart. They clean all your clubs for you before carrying and loading them back into your car while we grabbed some dinner at the grill to enjoy the beautiful sunset. Yes don't forget to tip the staff they're working hard! Thanks to the staff for looking after our group and we absolutely will be back again! read more

Finally I can write a review! I played Monarch Beach for the first time in ages. As I recall, the last time I played here was at a charity tournament. The course is in decent shape. The greens were clean, and the tees were in good shape. However, some of the fairways had brown spots, and some holes were cart path only. In addition, there is no driving range. Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives. The service was excellent. From the starter, the food staff and Jessica, the cart girl, all of the team was super friendly. Additionally, the carts and restrooms were sanitized frequently. Lastly, some of the holes had ocean views. and the pace of play was less than 4 hours. What I didn't like is that some customers didn't practice social distancing. For example, while I was paying for some drinks at the cafe, some asshole walked up w/o a mask to get napkins. He should have worn a mask like me and abide by what the sign says. In addition, there were napkins at the BBQ where he got his food. Last of all, holes #4 & #5 are both par 3s. I dislike courses that do not space the holes properly. Nonetheless, if I lived in the area this would be one of my go to places. The prices ($105) are still high if you have an annual membership, but you feel like you are at a private course. read more

Playing Monarch Beach was probably my favorite golfing experience in OC. The course is beautiful, and the course is very well maintained. Great views of the beach and ocean on a couple of holes and nice landscaping throughout. Having played on a weekday afternoon, we had no issues with pace of play - we never had to wait, and never had anyone waiting on us. Not a super challenging course, but certainly enough difficulty to keep it fun. The staff were all fantastic. From the moment we arrived to the valet stand, where we were kindly greeted and our clubs promptly loaded to our cart, until the moment we left, where they cleaned our clubs and loaded them back in the car, everyone was friendly and went above and beyond to make our experience great. Had an unfortunate accident occur at the course last week. Was there for a tournament and at a very hectic valet my keys were not returned by the attendant accidentally. When my car didn't restart at my destination I called the course which located my keys and made an initial offer to hold in the golf shop. Within a few minutes I was called to let me know that they were sending someone to me with the keys. I was probably an hour away and the response was not a problem. They made a bad situation go pretty well. Appreciate the level of service and by the way the course was in great condition. read more

My favorite place to play! I'm a member of the resort, which includes membership for golf as well. This is my go to place to play, as the course is gorgeous and I never have a client or prospective client say "no" to playing here. :) In the last few months they've had some staffing changes and they were for the good. The service has definitely improved and the process has been seamless since. The restaurant is currently closed, and I hope they reopen it soon. It's a great place to enjoy the view after playing and grab a decent lunch and drink. Otherwise, the cafe serves really good food! read more

GORGEOUS COURSE We stayed at the Waldorf hotel and decided last minute to play before we checked out late around 2pm. We didn't get to play on the beach side but the course was still GORGEOUS and well kept. The carts were clean and had a USB outlet (but ours was broken). The snack cart came around quite often which was great. A bit pricey $95 for 9-hole but worth every penny. They play good music too Eagles Lying Eyes while we sipped on beers and watched the sunset off the beach. We'll be back again for sure. One negative star for the asshole in the store trying to charge me $30 for a "spectator fee" because I was sitting in the cart watching my hubby play. Really? Thankfully the guys working at the check in carts agreed with us that was bullshit and told us not to worry. Really cool staff! Except for the anal guy working the shop lol. read more

Everyone called this a resort course, but I'm Local and play here all the time. Had a great time here with my dad in town. They valet your car for free. The 1st hole has ocean views and chairs to lounge in and have a drink. All the employees are friendly and helpful, and the course plays not too difficult with a lot of fun. There's a lot of sand, so just avoid that! The greens are fast but definitely not too fast. They also have the latest nicest rental clubs. Not too hard to break 80 and get in the 70s if you are a 10 or less handicap. Pace of play was right on track as well. Top 3 Orange County golf course for sure! read more

My husband and I wanted to get out on Easter Sunday. Brandon and Eric, in golf, were able to fit my husband into a tee time and I got to ride along. My first time here and I was greeted by fresh baked cookies in the golf shop! Smelled and tasted amazing! The views were perfect, from the ocean, streams, to rolling greens! As we went from hole to hole the staff we ran into were all so nice and friendly! They made sure that we enjoyed our time and were willing to help if we needed anything. We came at a rest point for some more water bottles and I was surprised they also had apples available to snack on! As we rounded to the last few holes we were greeted with tootsie roll pops and then upon returning the cart a warm hand towel! Loved the staff and how nice and helpful they were! I played a round here and it was great! There were 3 of us and they didn't add a 4th so it was just me and 2 buddies out at the course. The course is well maintained so the fairways, greens, bunkers, etc. were all nicely kept. Greens were pretty consistent. The staff is nice and friendly. The guy at the cart area was cool. There is a small area to warm up (mats with nets to hit irons and driver) and a large putting green. The cart girls are friendly as well. She poured us a nice stiff drink so that was great! Monarch Beach is definitely one of the best golf clubs in the area and it shows. From initial arrival to finishing up our round, it was a great A+ experience! read more

We had a tee time for 10 am on Friday. First con no driving range although you can warm up hitting into a net if you don't mind. The course was incredible for being December and the greens were immaculate. The weather was picture perfect! We were serviced several times by the cart gals and there was a snack bar at turn but I opted to wait to eat until we finished our round of golf. That was a huge mistake because after we seated ourselves on the outdoor patio and waited a good ten minutes my coworker went inside and was advised they were closed for a private function! No beverages or food after playing cart path only! It's pathectic that nobody communicated this at the turn and my vendor must have been so embarrassed -I know I would have been if I was entertaining clients. I left hungry & pissed !!! read more

Well, this was certainly the most expensive course I have ever played, and may be the one of the priciest course I ever play. I didn't pay rack rate, scoring a great discount on top of an already discounted web rate, but it is a pricy course. With the rate, the question is, is it worth the money. And the answer is a qualified no. Don't get me wrong, it is a lovely course. I played the day after a rain, at the tail end of a wet month, so the course was a wee bit soggy. There were more than a few muddy lies, but on the whole I can overlook them. The fairways are fairly generous, and off the tee, the course does not qualify as target golf. where the target practice comes into play is in the approach. Most greens are well protected, so either have good control over your approach shots, or get some practice in with your sand wedge. On the plus side, the traps here are really nice (an advantage of being next to the beach), even with all the recent rain. The greens themselves are fast, with multiple tiers and some really ugly pin placements. It is not that hard to put off the green. Again, even with the weather, these are some of the fastest greens I have played. And with the exception of some bird droppings, the greens are in fantastic shape. There is a bit of water on the course, and it really comes in to play on two of the par 3s, but beyond that, it is manageable. Fairway traps are also sprinkled about, but they can be managed as well. I guess the key term here is course management. Since it is not overly long, shot placement is more important that length off the tee, and controlling your approach shots can mean the difference between an up and down and double bogey. So, back to value, and what makes this course worthwhile. The views on a few holes are magnificent. Holes 3 and 4 are on the ocean side of PCH, so you are playing with the beach as a backdrop. No, you are not carrying a cliff onto a point overlooking the Pacific, but the is darn pretty. 18 is also beautiful, heading back in with the ocean as a distant backdrop. The course is very well maintained, but so are other like Talega, Tustin Ranch, Black Gold and Oak Creek. Toss in a few more if you are willing to drive to the IE. Customer care is nice here, with water in the carts (but no GPS) very friendly staff, and a complementary yardage book. So give me a steep, steep discount, and I will play this course any time. At full rates, however, it isn't on my list. read more

this was my first time golfing and it was so much fun!!! such a beautiful place and i felt so lucky to be in that place during this crazy time. the course is absolutely beautiful and the view of the ocean is unbeatable. the golf carts were also super fun to ride, and they were really high tech!! you could see how far you were from the flag hole, maps of all the different holes, and so many more cool features! the food is pretty good too, just a bit expensive, but hey you're at the monarch beach golf resort.. my favorite part was the complimentary cookies they give you!! the man at the front said they were homemade there, they were so delicious i had three or four!!! i would go back just for the cookies. overall super fun and beautiful place, and so peaceful and serene too!! read more

Had a great round here July 4th with my fiancée on a whim. Upon arrival we were greater by the valet, complimentary of course, allowing us to unload way to much! No need to load your clubs, they take care of everything at this 5 star resort. I booked my tee time on teeoff and it was easy and a good value. I do wish there were more holes like #3 which you can drive with a great shot over the trees (I did it :)). We always like to start our round with breakfast and a range which unfortunately is the reason I did not give the course 5 stars... no range just nets. And the Café..... argh, the girls are nice behind the counter but the ingredients they use in the egg scramble eek! Terrible, I had some terrible stomach cramps and gas the entire day :(. Very unfortunate since it tasted ok, but the eggs must be cheap or the cheese old I don't know but AVOID the snack stand and food at this course. Once finished with your 18 holes they clean your clubs, retrieve your vehicle & load all your clubs in and give you some very lovely mango scented cold towels! We were hoping to have some showers, or nice bathrooms to change in after before our long ride home. Ehh tiny and dirty. not what I expected. It's ok I left happy and played well! The course is narrow and slightly challenging but with the right conditions a lot of fun! I would come out here again in a heartbeat. I'll just be eating before I get there. read more
