AMBIANCE Beautiful views throughout the course, calm setting, friendly staff, and well-kept greens. GOLF Tee time was 10:22am, and we were welcomed right away. Check-in was smooth, we were given a cart, and paired with Marla and Trish, who have played this course for years and made the round even more enjoyable. Holes 4 and 5 were my favorites. There are some challenging shots, but overall it's very playable and beginner-friendly. I'm still learning and walked away with a few bogeys, which felt great. OVERALL I only recently started playing with my best friend, and this has quickly become one of my favorite courses. Great place to play, learn, and enjoy the scenery. I give this golf course a one-star review. I had a very disappointing experience this afternoon. I called ahead to confirm the walking rate for the 9-hole course and was quoted $60 per player. When I arrived to check in, I was suddenly told the rate was $110 per player for nine holes, almost double; and that's for a walking senior!!! I explained that I had been quoted a lower rate on the phone, but the staff member dismissed it, saying he "thought I was a resident of Laguna Beach or Dana Point." That's not my problem. If the course can't communicate their rates accurately, the customer shouldn't pay for their mistake. The course itself is an executive nine-hole layout with no ocean views; certainly not worth $110 for a walking round. It feels as though they're trying to price out everyday golfers and cater exclusively to the wealthy. I refused to play on principle and canceled. I could have paid the higher rate, but I won't reward that kind of bait-and-switch pricing. Golf should be accessible, and this experience left a sour taste. This is an overpriced course with inconsistent, and disappointing customer service. read more

This spot is a local hotspot. Never thought a place like this is tucked away in the mountains. It has beautiful views, and the vibe is awesome. During our visit, the was a live performer singing good tunes which added to the serenity. Played 9 holes here with some friends and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Par 5 was the max if I remembered correctly. It was great for a pushcart instead of the golf cart. Before hand, we did grab a bite to eat at their restaurant. Sandwich and fries was good. We didn't overload on anything crazy before our game. Walking the course was a great idea after a nice lunch. I would love to come back and play another round sometimes. Love this spot! read more

What a fantastic 9 hole course! Once on the links you can't see or feel the bustle of the greater OC outside - it's like a Jurassic Park oasis! Well maintained and most golfers walking makes it a great vibe for casual golf. Play can be slow, but that seems to fit the vibe. Beautiful amazing course! One of my all time favorites. Was here about 6 months ago and was surprised at the recent changes. the young guys in the pro shop were very rude from start to finish. My husband found a club on the golf course and didn't even get a thank you. Hostesses at the restaurant weren't friendly, and there was a $200 minimum to sit at the couches by the fire and musician even though the restaurant was not full and they were all empty. We still had a couple drinks and enjoyed the nice weather and view. Maybe there's new management? Hopefully we'll have a better experience next time. read more

I recently played at the ranch on a Tuesday with a 4:46pm tee time. I was shocked to see how busy the course was on a weekday evening. We were backed up on holes 2 and 3 but didn't have any other issues after that. This 9 hole course offers an option to ride or walk. It was well maintained and had beautiful views. The day was so beautiful and warm , little bit windy, but the courses are open. The carts are out the push carts are out everyone was having a great day. If jurassic Park were a real place and wanted to make their very own golf course, this would be it. The most scenic and challenging golf course all wrapped into one. We didn't have time to stay and eat, but from what I could see, the food was top-notch and so were the people that were working there. I would give this a lower rating if I could, very disappointed in the recent price increase. I called and asked why and was given the standard explanation that someone from the Ranch posted on this platform. The course is only 9 holes and is a lovely spot but not for $90 dollars. One can see the change at the Ranch since it remodeled and it is now geared for the rich. I have played there for 40 years and will not be returning. I wish I could give this place a 4.5. The overall experience is that of a private course, yet it's open to the public. The course has so much variety that you can work on your game a lot. Beautiful, almost like Kualoa Ranch because of the valley feel. NOTES: you have to valet your car (complimentary) so bring cash! Also beware of ticks! read more

I will give this review a minus zero. I played this 9 hole course in September of 2024 and paid $40.00 for the senior walking rate. Went online today and the current green fees are $90.00 for a senior walking rate. $90.00 for a 9 hole course =. Sorry - they will never see me again and as I suspect, they probably don't care. read more

Played here a few years ago, with the new $90 green fees points to exactly what's wrong with the state of golf in certain area of the US. Not even a resident rate for us locals? Not loyalty program no practice area no driving range. This type of behavior makes the game more and more restrictive for the youth and families. read more

Negatives: I believe the price is $48 that is more than an 18 hole course, too many par 3s around the same length (200 yds), and not enuf bend in the fairways. What an awesome location for the best golf course in Southern California. The course is managed near perfectly and service is par excellent. Exceptional scenery and beautiful lawns and quiet tranquility all around, it's nicest nine holes in Southern California. The sunny hazy morning surrounded misty mountains circumscribed flat nine beautiful greens with just right amount of bunkers and hills and trees to make par fours and threes exciting to play. Small creek on two holes are filled with balls that nobody cared to fish! The creek beds were muddy and not cleaned for a very long time but the important grounds were meticulously maintained. It was wonderful overall. I give fat five stars for this little jewel of Laguna Beach. read more

I've been playing golf weekly at Ben Browns for many years with my buddies, we are two 4-somes. Since the Hobie guys bought the property and created The Ranch, it's changed, and in many ways not so good. Turn over is very high and they don't treat their employees very well- it shows. They also do not seem to appreciate the local loyal regulars anymore. It's most pronounced in the pro shop (which has become a tourist gift shop) and with the now mandatory valet service. It's a shame that the owners are locals and don't appreciate the local patrons. read more

Beautiful Par 3 golf course in the Laguna Beach canyons. Greens and fairways are very well maintained. If you play from the Blue tees, this Par 3 course is decently long where you can use driver on maybe 2 holes with plenty of use for your 3 iron or 3 hybrid. Only qualm is the wait area and tee off area at Hole 9 can be dangerous because you can easily be hit by an errant golf ball from players on Hole 8 and also from Hole 1. That's my only qualm of playing at this Ben Brown course. Hole 10 at the outdoor eating area is a nice way to end the day. The old fashioned cocktail is superb along with the apple pie ala mode. Well I just got to say that Chase was the nicest kid ever. What a great staff member: courteous and efficient and kind . I did a reload. and he was very helpful getting me out right away. You should obviously be managing the place if he's not already. The course was in terrific shape everything was fantastic from the tea boxes to the fairways to the greens. Challenging with plenty a part for us. This is not an executive course. In my opinion. I grabbed a bite and the coffee was fantastic. Cole the chef and the Chilean Barista were very kind And were extremely courteous and helpful too There is a really beautiful restaurant on the property and a hotel. Neat executive course hidden in Laguna Beach Canyon. This is one of my fave local spots for a quick 9 hole round. The grounds are well kept and it's fun layout. I love coming here on weekdays when it's not to busy. There is a practice range to use when warming up but you hit off mats not green. The staff at the proshop is very professional and the Marshal is always really good at always getting the groups out. So we've had a big group before my bf and I got in, but they re organized so we could go before since it was just 2 of us and we'd be playing faster. So they do a good job at the pace of play. Cars are always clean, nothing fancy with the cars but hey they get me to my ball. The course is walkable and they have rentals for that too. I rather walk the course because it's beautiful. More often than not you spot out some of the inhabitants (deers). It's nice just obviously don't get near them. Great course for experienced players and starting ones!!! The clubhouse restaurant is really good too and offers incredible views of the course. Once finished refresh with a Bloody Mary, they are good way to wrap up. read more

It's a super chill golf course. It is always in good condition. If you are a beginner, I would suggest bringing some extra balls as there is a continuous creek that runs throughout the course and lots of places to loose your golf balls. read more

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary this year on June 21 at the Ranch's Dining Restaurant. What a tremendous experience the evening was. Our main courses were superlative. I had their ahi which was exceptional and the sides that came with it were innovative and were filled with new and exciting flavors. Our server, Phillip, was attentive and personable. Michelle, the manager, was extremely gracious, kind, and generous. She was very congratulatory on the celebration of our many years together. We so appreciated her, what a wonderful individual. We booked a tee time through the COURSE'S WEBSITE, for 928, the night before, for a threesome. We arrived and tried to check in with an older man, wearing a crooked name tag (unknown name). He told us we didn't have a reservation in the system, but that he'd try to fit us in around a couple groups. He didn't realize there were three of us, and when we told him, he became visibly annoyed, pounding the desk and rolling his eyes in frustration. He then told us we were out of luck, and that he couldn't get us on, even though we had a tee time reservation made through the COURSE WEBSITE. He claimed he wasn't able to find our reservation. We physically showed him the reservation, but he still refused to honor it, or acknowledge that we had actually made a reservation. We complained that we'd driven more than an hour to play at the course, this guy literally scoffed at us and stated "well you can drive an hour anywhere", and told us we were out of luck. Extremely rude. He did offer to get us on hours later in the afternoon when they had a tee time available. Funny thing is - an hour later, after being told to leave the course because we "didn't have a reservation", we got a notification of cancellation of our tee time!!! I've golfed this course many times before and have never experienced such horrible service. This guy was pretentious and rude... I expect more from such a nice course in Laguna Besch. read more

Slow and expensive for what it is - 3 holes took 90 minutes - horribly backed up - so left without finishing.

Turned up for our Reserved Golf tee-time and were told we were playing with a group. No one had informed us that would be the case and they looked at us like we were the ones that made a mistake by not stating that we wanted to play by ourselves; it was abundantly clear they had double-booked our space. Never have I had to reserve a golf game where we had to specifically ask to play in our own group. This proved to be a very unsatisfactory afternoon with no follow-up from them. I had previously reserved a 2 room cottage for 3 days in November but after the service we received and reading a few other reviews on the place I decided to cancel. Unfortunately this is not a very professionally ran organization which is a real shame as it is a beautiful location that has so much potential to be really great. read more

Beautiful course but they don't even allow Vaping. No smoking or any kind, not even Vaping which doesn't burn things down, smell horrible or cause second hand smoke. It's a very stuffy and likely an insurance related rule but really. I hope it's insurance related and not some personal preference thing. I'm glad the old timers of LAGUNA beach can enjoy the course but if you can't smoke or vape etc it's a huge set back for so many that do. Pretty course but couldn't enjoy it as much read more

The property is really nice now with all the renovations apparently fully completed. We will play golf here now and then when we don't have enough time for 18 holes. The course is in pretty good shape for this time of year and should only improve once the rain begins and the days cool. The TEE BOXES are in pretty good shape. The GREENS are in very good shape. The FAIRWAYS are mostly good and some rough's are a little rougher than others but nothing terrible. It's one of the few courses we'll actually walk with roll carts (very new condition). The layout is pretty fun and has some challenges but nothing crazy. DEER were present on HOLE 5 and are often on HOLE 9 as well. STAFF are friendly and helpful. We haven't eaten here since the reno so maybe we should after a future round. read more
